Honda Accord problems

The Honda Accord (Japanese: ホンダ・アコード, Hepburn: Honda Akōdo, /əˈkɔːrd/), also known as the Honda Inspire (Japanese: ホンダ・インスパイア, Hepburn: Honda Insupaia) in Japan and China for certain generations, is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1976, best known for its four-door sedan variant, which has been one of the best-selling cars in the United States since 1989. The Accord nameplate has been applied to a variety of vehicles worldwide, including coupes, station wagons, hatchbacks and a Honda Crosstour crossover.
Since its initiation, Honda has offered several different car body styles and versions of the Accord, and often vehicles marketed under the Accord nameplate concurrently in different regions differ quite substantially. It debuted in 1976, as a compact hatchback, though this style only lasted through 1989, as the lineup was expanded to include a sedan, coupe, and wagon. By the sixth-generation Accord at the end of the 1990s, it evolved into an intermediate vehicle, with one basic platform but with different bodies and proportions to increase its competitiveness against its rivals in different international markets. For the eighth-generation Accord released for the North American market in 2007, Honda had again chosen to move the model further upscale and increase its size. This pushed the Accord sedan from the upper limit of what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines as a mid-size car to just above the lower limit of a full-size car, with the coupe still rated as a mid-size car. In 2012, the ninth-generation Accord sedan, with smaller exterior dimensions, was once again classified as a mid-size car at 119 cubic feet (3.4 m3), falling just shy of the "Large Car" classification. However, the tenth-generation Accord sedan, with similar exterior dimensions, returned to full-size car status with its combined interior space of 123 cubic feet (3.5 m3); the coupe was discontinued in 2017.
In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 38 times.
In 1989, the Accord was the first vehicle sold under an import brand to become the best-selling car in the United States. As of 2020, the Accord has sold more than 18 million units.

What is the common problem of the Honda Accord?
One of the Honda Accord's most talked-about issues revolves around its transmission. Owners have reported cases of slipping, abrupt shifting, and, in some unfortunate instances, complete failure.
What years to avoid on a Honda Accord?
Quick Answer: Avoid 1998-2005, 2008-2010, 2013, and 2014 Honda Accords. The turn of the century was not an easy time for Honda. The transmission in the new sixth-generation Accord had issues slipping or making thuds while shifting and often outright failing, while several engines stalled out while driving.
Is Honda Accord a reliable car?
Honda has a long-standing reputation for producing durable and dependable vehicles, and the Accord is no exception. Many owners report driving their Accords well beyond the 100,000-mile mark with minimal issues. This reliability can translate into lower maintenance costs and a longer lifespan for your vehicle.
What Honda Accord years are best?
A: As per the guide, the most reliable Honda Accords are the 2006 and 2007 models from the seventh generation and the 2011 and 2012 models from the eighth generation. These specific years have garnered positive feedback for their dependability and have fewer reported issues compared to other years.

Honda Accord 2018
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-16
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-22
- VIN: 1HGCV1F35JA
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEAT BELTS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: During normal driving - clear weather conditions - the car will suddenly activate the forward collision braking. It will literally slam on the brakes and decrease the speed by 10-15 MPH. This happened as I was going down the drive of our neighborhood, I was at 45 MPH with no one in front of me or behind me (thankfully) and the car applied the brakes and activated the front collision warning. There is also an intermittent issue with my seatbelt. Specifically the drivers seat belt. I was witness to someone driving my car - he buckled his seat belt and it unlatched. He then buckled it again thinking he didn’t do it right - but it wouldn’t latch. This has happened to me before as well - but usually after the third try of buckling the seat belt it will work and so I thought nothing of it. Additionally, the windshield wipers do not go back to their original position after being in use.

- Summary: My wife thought she locked her keys in the car and I got a hanger to try and get in by putting hanger in window and pulling the latch for trunk and then pull the lever to fold down the back seat and then I crawled in from trunk and when I lifted the back seat to look on seat it latched and I was locked in car! I could not open any doors or windows and it was very hot that day and it was even hotter inside the car. I thought I was gonna die! I was trying to yell but nobody was around and my son in law just happen to pull up and I was screaming beating on the window and he heard me and saw me and rushed over and I told him to pull the latch in trunk to open back seat and he found the latch and I was able to crawl out. I thought I was gonna die!! You cannot get out of that car if you are inside and the locks are locked. There was a time not long before that my wife and I went to store and she went in and I was gonna come in after I got done with my phone call I was on and when I tried to open the door it would not open and I had to wait for her to come out of store to unlock the car so I could get out. After this last incident I was so shaken up I didn't know what to do until my brother in law told me to file a complaint before it happens to someone else that might not get lucky like I did and to call an attorney which is what I'm gonna do regardless of what they do about it. I'm a grown adult and could not get out of that car and if that were to happen to a child I don't wanna even think about what would happen and that is why I'm making this complaint so it can be fixed before it happens again if it already hasn't.

Vehicle year: 2016
Hi all,I am sharing my car buying experience with all , hope it will be helpful to those who are thinking of buying a new car.I live in California.Car purchased on December 28, 2015 : 2016 Honda Accord EX with Honda Sensing, White ExteriorMSRP on this car was $28115 and dealer invoice cast was $25777Price paid $24000+ DMV and Sales Tax = Total OTD -Out the Door $26302.15 I don't have excellent credit, but I was able to get %2.2 for 72 months from a credit union. My experience sharing with potential car buyers:Online research helped me a lot to select the car I wanted and to get the right price. I read many forums. I am trying to return favor to online community through this comment.I was doing online research for long time almost for 4 weeks. First up all I wanted to buy a 2-3 year old used car to save myself from big hit of depreciation cost which happens mainly in first 2 years, but then I wasn't able to find a car with all recent safety features. So finally I made my mind to get Honda Accord with Honda Sensing Features. I found these features are very cool and I am amazed to know how useful they are just after driving about 250 miles.I didn't wanna spend another few thousand dollars to get Touring or EX-L trim, I found EX with Honda Sensing is 'Value for Money ' package. Before settling on Accord I test drove many cars which were in my budget. On Truecar.com best target price was $24554. My target was to get a deal better than that.I read and experienced all dealership's strategies, marketing tactics. In beginning , I visited neighborhood dealerships tried negotiations, but was worthless.Dealers makes most of the money by selling you financing through them, by selling extended warranty , GAP insurance and selling(forcefully selling) accessories. I have seen dealers charge anywhere from $500 to $1000 just for aftermarket alarm security system. After you buy car you can get this system fitted in your cars for way less money. They try to sell you wax polish packages, now a days factory paintings is so state of the art, I personally dont think it is important, at least not at expensive price from dealerships. Their GAP insurance is always very expensive, I got one through my Auto insurance provider for $15 per 6 month. Anyways if you still want few useful genuine Honda (factory) accessories, you can always buy them later from any dealerships at discounted prices later, look for coupons on their websites under specials. Or just send emails to parts departments get quotations, ask for discount, and compare quotes. Most of the dealerships want you to invite you to store instead of giving you upfront quotation by using their marketing tactics , please don't fall to their tricks , be a strong buyer, your goal should be save your hard earned money. They try to focus on monthly payment, instead you should tell them I am focusing only on sales price nothing else, do your monthly car payment calculations on google. My advise to potential buyers:When I decided I want to buy 2016 Accord EX with HS , what I did is went on autotrader.com, cars.com and carsdirect.com entered the car, trim level and color I am looking for. I searched for 200 miles radius around my residential zip code. I found as many as apx. 50+ cars were in stock at different dealerships in Orange, San Diego , LA , San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Then I sent emails/messages to all these dealers through cars.com and asked them about my target price.I started getting email replies to my inbox within few hours. Few dealerships sent me there internet pricing with there terms and condition in smallest fond size. I went and visited one of the dealership which is about 40 miles away from home, found out they were playing games, when I went there they told me they did a mistake and accidentally quoted me different car, then finally agreed to honor the quote of $23500 but at condition to finance through them (Honda Financing) at ridiculously higher Interest rate, obviously I walked out of the dealership. Then I came home and emailed these dealerships who had this particular car in stock, about written quote with OTD pricing on it, clearly told them I will not buy any extras. I got 3-4 competitive quotes around $26300 OTD (~$24000+ tax and dmv) pricing in writing. So on Monday 12/28/2015 I drove into one of the dealership who gave me $24000+ tax and Dmv quote.Car had 2 miles on it, test drove it for 1 mile. Saw sticker had $995 alarm system added on it, told clearly to salesman that I am not gonna buy any extras. He said he will not change his words and there will be no surprises. Went inside after test drive. He printed the numbers on paper. The price he presented was exactly same as we agreed through email conversation. I signed the papers and option contract paid my down-payment through card. I reached at dealership at 7 pm and I was out with my brand new car at 8 pm.

Vehicle year: 1991
Bought it new in 1991. I always make sure to buy new tires when they wear out and change the oil and filter approximately every 3K. I take care of routine maintenance as needed. The biggest issue I had was with the transmission computer, but I was able to find a rebuilt one and change it myself for only $175.00. I think it will soon be passed down to my granddaughter.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share that I've had my car for a year now and it's been fantastic. When I first received it, it was in pretty rough shape with a transmission leak, broken windshield, and ripped CV boot. However, after getting it repaired, it's been running like a dream and has already clocked in at an impressive 393,000 km!

Vehicle year: 2011
My wife and I have had extensive experience with Honda Accords, including a 1989 LX (165k+ miles), a 1998 LX V-6 with leather, wood and remote lock options (200k+ miles), and various models from 1990-2003. We have also driven Camrys, Altimas and Sonatas. We recently purchased a 2011 EX-L 4 cyl in February and have already put over 3500 miles on it, including highway trips up to 3 hours long. We have noticed that Honda has taken inspiration from German cars, resulting in a firm European ride, supportive seats, and acceptable road noise (it is an Accord, after all). The car handles well, loves curves, and has very direct steering. The brakes are also very good, comparable to those on our '98 model.

I am confident in my assessment of the 2022 Accord Touring. While the 2.0 engine is strong and nimble in sport driving mode, the overall quality of the car leaves much to be desired. The driver's seat is uncomfortable for long trips, the center console is poorly designed, and the exterior door handles feel cheap. The infotainment system is glitchy and the wireless charging pad has never worked. The automatic braking engages unnecessarily and the auto high beams are unreliable. The Lane Keep Assist is not helpful and the brakes make a loud noise on cool mornings. Despite my complaints being well documented on the internet, the dealer has been unable to address these issues. As a long-time Honda owner, I am disappointed in the quality of this car and it will be the last Honda my family owns. I have owned many other brands in the past and have found them to be of higher quality. It is unfortunate that Honda has not been able to maintain their standards.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2014 Honda Accord V6 EX-L w/Navi that I bought new from Anderson Honda, Palo Alto back in June 2014. I've been a loyal Honda owner since 1992 and this was my very first new car purchase (at age 43). I've always appreciated Honda's reputation for reliability, having worked at a dealership during my college years and seeing first-hand how consistent their vehicles were. However, I've had some issues with this particular car. At 47,000 miles, it needed a new starter and battery replacement, which was a bit of a disappointment. Additionally, I've found the Navi system to be sub par and the XM radio to be a bit frustrating to use. Despite these issues, I still appreciate the quality of Honda vehicles and will definitely consider them when purchasing my next car. Thanks for listening!

The car appears to be well-made, as expected, but the ride is uncomfortably firm. I found the 2020 Camry I traded in to be much more comfortable and enjoyable to drive. Perhaps long-time Accord owners are accustomed to the firmer ride. I was waiting for the new Camry redesign, but it was pushed back to next year, so I decided to try something different. The test drive seemed okay, but after about 900 miles, I'm not enjoying the ride. Additionally, the seats are a bit uncomfortable (LX).

The vehicle is truly one of the finest ever built in the US. I was lucky enough to find the exceedingly rare V6/manual combination that met all my criteria. It is amply powered, well laid out, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing. The build quality is good overall, with only a few very minor fit/finish issues. On the road, it is rather fun to drive on the aggressive side due to the copious power and torque available throughout the operating range. Passing and highway merges are effortless...in fact, the most difficult part of driving the car is maintaining legal speeds! The manual transmission variant specifically has a satisfying shift action, but the clutch is very light and far less forgiving than other vehicles I've driven. Sloppy technique is not tolerated by this drivetrain, especially with its highly sensitive throttle response. A few months with this car will hone your manual driving skills with certainty. The ride is fairly firm but not jarring, and handling is great with good stability in cornering and maneuvering. Steering feel is lacking, as with most cars in this day and age. All in all, if you're looking for a V6 and manual transmission at a reasonable price, this vehicle is probably the best option available at this time. However, I did have some issues with the sales process itself. In my experience, Honda dealers are terrible. I had to endure an ultra-high-pressure and scummy sales process to get this vehicle. It seems that the only goal in the process is to inviscerate every buyer with aggressive and ridiculously overpriced up-sells to maximize profit. I had to literally walk out twice to get them to drop the sales pitch and execute the sale as I wanted. Service is also an issue...Honda dealers can be tough on customers who don't use their service department. In my case, I had to buy my vehicle two hours away from home because my local dealer didn't have the configuration I wanted. Even though I had no other choice, my local dealer still charges me more for routine maintenance and inspections. Despite this, I would still recommend this vehicle. To make the sales process easier, try using an internet-based car buying service and avoid speaking with any finance managers. If the sales representative or internet sales desk can't handle the sale themselves, find another dealer. Don't purchase any upsells as you can get everything they offer for a quarter of the price from third parties. Any claims they make to the contrary are false. Using a local dealer for service can also improve your service experience.

The car is equipped with everything you need and drives/feels great. However, I have been experiencing some major issues recently. The car displays a keyless access problem and when I try to start it, the power system failure, brake system problem, electric power steering problem, and every other warning light comes on the dash. This has happened to me five times and I have taken it to the dealer, but they have only done a system reset and are waiting on Honda to release a new system update. Yesterday morning, the same thing happened and the dealer said that the corrosion protectors on the battery caused the cables to not be tight enough, resulting in low voltage and all the codes going off. Unfortunately, I am still experiencing the same problem and waiting for the tow truck this morning. I feel cheated and upset because I bought this car brand new in June of 2023. Every day since I have been having this problem, I have to worry about whether my car is going to work. I haven't even had my first oil change yet.
