Honda Accord problems

The Honda Accord (Japanese: ホンダ・アコード, Hepburn: Honda Akōdo, /əˈkɔːrd/), also known as the Honda Inspire (Japanese: ホンダ・インスパイア, Hepburn: Honda Insupaia) in Japan and China for certain generations, is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1976, best known for its four-door sedan variant, which has been one of the best-selling cars in the United States since 1989. The Accord nameplate has been applied to a variety of vehicles worldwide, including coupes, station wagons, hatchbacks and a Honda Crosstour crossover.
Since its initiation, Honda has offered several different car body styles and versions of the Accord, and often vehicles marketed under the Accord nameplate concurrently in different regions differ quite substantially. It debuted in 1976, as a compact hatchback, though this style only lasted through 1989, as the lineup was expanded to include a sedan, coupe, and wagon. By the sixth-generation Accord at the end of the 1990s, it evolved into an intermediate vehicle, with one basic platform but with different bodies and proportions to increase its competitiveness against its rivals in different international markets. For the eighth-generation Accord released for the North American market in 2007, Honda had again chosen to move the model further upscale and increase its size. This pushed the Accord sedan from the upper limit of what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines as a mid-size car to just above the lower limit of a full-size car, with the coupe still rated as a mid-size car. In 2012, the ninth-generation Accord sedan, with smaller exterior dimensions, was once again classified as a mid-size car at 119 cubic feet (3.4 m3), falling just shy of the "Large Car" classification. However, the tenth-generation Accord sedan, with similar exterior dimensions, returned to full-size car status with its combined interior space of 123 cubic feet (3.5 m3); the coupe was discontinued in 2017.
In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 38 times.
In 1989, the Accord was the first vehicle sold under an import brand to become the best-selling car in the United States. As of 2020, the Accord has sold more than 18 million units.

What is the common problem of the Honda Accord?
One of the Honda Accord's most talked-about issues revolves around its transmission. Owners have reported cases of slipping, abrupt shifting, and, in some unfortunate instances, complete failure.
What years to avoid on a Honda Accord?
Quick Answer: Avoid 1998-2005, 2008-2010, 2013, and 2014 Honda Accords. The turn of the century was not an easy time for Honda. The transmission in the new sixth-generation Accord had issues slipping or making thuds while shifting and often outright failing, while several engines stalled out while driving.
Is Honda Accord a reliable car?
Honda has a long-standing reputation for producing durable and dependable vehicles, and the Accord is no exception. Many owners report driving their Accords well beyond the 100,000-mile mark with minimal issues. This reliability can translate into lower maintenance costs and a longer lifespan for your vehicle.
What Honda Accord years are best?
A: As per the guide, the most reliable Honda Accords are the 2006 and 2007 models from the seventh generation and the 2011 and 2012 models from the eighth generation. These specific years have garnered positive feedback for their dependability and have fewer reported issues compared to other years.

Honda Accord 2018
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-16
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-22
- VIN: 1HGCV1F35JA
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEAT BELTS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: During normal driving - clear weather conditions - the car will suddenly activate the forward collision braking. It will literally slam on the brakes and decrease the speed by 10-15 MPH. This happened as I was going down the drive of our neighborhood, I was at 45 MPH with no one in front of me or behind me (thankfully) and the car applied the brakes and activated the front collision warning. There is also an intermittent issue with my seatbelt. Specifically the drivers seat belt. I was witness to someone driving my car - he buckled his seat belt and it unlatched. He then buckled it again thinking he didn’t do it right - but it wouldn’t latch. This has happened to me before as well - but usually after the third try of buckling the seat belt it will work and so I thought nothing of it. Additionally, the windshield wipers do not go back to their original position after being in use.

- Summary: My wife thought she locked her keys in the car and I got a hanger to try and get in by putting hanger in window and pulling the latch for trunk and then pull the lever to fold down the back seat and then I crawled in from trunk and when I lifted the back seat to look on seat it latched and I was locked in car! I could not open any doors or windows and it was very hot that day and it was even hotter inside the car. I thought I was gonna die! I was trying to yell but nobody was around and my son in law just happen to pull up and I was screaming beating on the window and he heard me and saw me and rushed over and I told him to pull the latch in trunk to open back seat and he found the latch and I was able to crawl out. I thought I was gonna die!! You cannot get out of that car if you are inside and the locks are locked. There was a time not long before that my wife and I went to store and she went in and I was gonna come in after I got done with my phone call I was on and when I tried to open the door it would not open and I had to wait for her to come out of store to unlock the car so I could get out. After this last incident I was so shaken up I didn't know what to do until my brother in law told me to file a complaint before it happens to someone else that might not get lucky like I did and to call an attorney which is what I'm gonna do regardless of what they do about it. I'm a grown adult and could not get out of that car and if that were to happen to a child I don't wanna even think about what would happen and that is why I'm making this complaint so it can be fixed before it happens again if it already hasn't.

The Accord Sport 2.0 with 10-speed automatic is definitely the one to buy! It offers great acceleration and a smooth ride. Plus, the wireless CarPlay works really well. It's a dependable car and the Sonic Gray color always gets compliments wherever I go.

I really like the performance of this car! It's rated at 6.5 sec to 60 mph and the 10 AT automatic transmission is as sweet as any six cylinder manual trans auto that I have ever driven. State Farm Auto dropped my safe auto discount on this car, even with its nine airbags and fully sophisticated driver's assist system. Go figure. I got 27.9 mpg on my first tank, on a city & highway mixed use. If you are lead footed, I suspect that you won't do as well. The infotainment system is great, and I bought the Accord because of my dislike of a comparable 2019 Toyota Camry's infotainment system. My only disappointment is that the power drivers seat isn't as comfortable as I desired. The 2.0L Sport strengths easily overcome its weaknesses in my view. This one is a keeper!

It sounds like this car has been a great companion as a second car! I'm glad to hear it has served you well. I noticed you mentioned you're looking into getting a new car with safety features, that's always a great investment. Also, it's great to know that this car has spent the last 8 winters in Florida!

Vehicle year: 2013
One of the best cars I have ever owned! It's hard to believe that some people are having problems. I can't say enough about the gas mileage - I'm getting 26.6 MPG in the city. I haven't done a highway test yet, but I'm excited to see how it performs. With just under 6000 miles, I'm really enjoying driving this car.

Vehicle year: 1993
This car is truly amazing! With 227,000 miles and counting, I drive it every day and still love it just as much as the day I got it. The original clutch and exhaust are still going strong, and the interior is in perfect condition. I have never had any major issues with this car, and even the left headlamp bulb that was installed at the factory 17 years ago is still working! The only minor issue I have had is with the power antenna, which tends to break due to the high heat in Arizona, but I can easily forgive this small flaw in such a wonderful gem of a car. I cannot praise Honda enough for creating such a reliable and amazing car, and I can't wait for them to introduce another one like it. Although, I have to admit, I'm not sure if this one will ever wear out!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my younger brother's Honda Accord with 156,000 miles. It's been a lifesaver for me during my daily commute in Chicago. The reliability of this car is simply amazing! Since its purchase in 2001, I haven't had any mechanical or electronic problems. The VTEC engine is a joy to rev and performs very well for a family sedan. The double wishbone suspension is solid and gives back exactly what you put into it. Although there have been some minor interior issues, they were nothing out of the ordinary. The transmission, which Honda's quality suffered between 1999-2003, is starting to feel a bit jerky. The headlamps made by Stanley are showing their age, but overall, this has been an impressive sedan with impeccable reliability.

I started experiencing popping and crunching sounds from the front end of my car, especially in hot weather, at around 45000 miles. I took it to get looked at when it reached 48k and was informed that the front end ball joints were bad. Additionally, the rear brakes were worn out and the rotors needed resurfacing. Although I have read about Honda ball joint failures on the web, this seems awfully premature. I have not had ball joint issues like this even in cars that I have kept over 100k (none of which were Hondas). Some of these failures can be catastrophic. I had planned on keeping this car and giving it to one of my kids to take to college, but now I am not so sure. It appears to be a design flaw from what I have been reading.

In the first 3 years, we experienced some minor cosmetic issues such as the door handle trim, which was replaced multiple times due to a factory recall. This resulted in us spending a lot of time at the dealership. Additionally, we had broken glove box retainers and had to replace brake lights every 6 months. We also noticed that the air conditioner had an unpleasant smell after turning it off and running just air. At 46000 miles, we had to replace the water pump, which was a major problem. However, we replaced it with a new water pump that has now lasted for 140000 miles! We also had to replace the slave cylinder and noticed that the steering wheel had deteriorated. At 90000 miles (5 years), we had to replace a broken plastic radiator and again at 186000 (12/2003). We also had to install new struts and shocks at 170000. Although we were very unhappy about these problems, overall, we were satisfied with the car for the 10 years we owned it.

Next time, we should take a longer test drive to ensure that we find the perfect car for us. During our recent 110 mile highway drive, we unfortunately could not find a comfortable seat setting, which resulted in discomfort and pain. Additionally, the ride was quite rough and we could feel every bump on the highway. Although we appreciate the car's looks and safety features, we miss the comfort of our old Lexus. However, we have decided to keep this Honda for around town and rent a bigger car for summer vacations.

I used to be a big fan of Honda and VW. In fact, I've owned several Honda models, including the 86 Accord LXi, which I loved for its sporty yet luxurious feel and great gas mileage. I also have a soft spot for the VW Jetta GLI and GTI. However, despite my loyalty to Honda, I've found that all of their models, including the Accord and Civic, have caused me back pain even during short drives. This led me to try out other brands, such as BMW and Mercedes, which I found to be much more comfortable. Recently, I was interested in purchasing a Pearl white touring Accord with the 2.0 motor, but unfortunately, just sitting in it brought back all of my previous backaches. Although it was a beautiful car, I had to decline the test drive. At this point, I'm considering other options such as a Jetta, GTI, or even an Audi. As someone who travels frequently for business, I need a car that is both comfortable and practical for daily use. Just my two cents!
