By the sixth-generation Accord at the end of the 1990s, it evolved into an intermediate vehicle, with one basic platform but with different bodies and proportions to increase its competitiveness against its rivals in different international markets. For the eighth-generation Accord released for the North American market in 2007, Honda had again chosen to move the model further upscale and increase its size. This pushed the Accord sedan from the upper limit of what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines as a mid-size car to just above the lower limit of a full-size car, with the coupe still rated as a mid-size car. In 2012, the ninth-generation Accord sedan, with smaller exterior dimensions, was once again classified as a mid-size car at 119 cubic feet (3.4 m3), falling just shy of the "Large Car" classification. However, the tenth-generation Accord sedan, with similar exterior dimensions, returned to full-size car status with its combined interior space of 123 cubic feet (3.5 m3); the coupe was discontinued in 2017.
In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 38 times.

The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel pump had failed; however, the part to repair the vehicle was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000. - Summary: During normal driving - clear weather conditions - the car will suddenly activate the forward collision braking. It will literally slam on the brakes and decrease the speed by 10-15 MPH. This happened as I was going down the drive of our neighborhood, I was at 45 MPH with no one in front of me or behind me (thankfully) and the car applied the brakes and activated the front collision warning. There is also an intermittent issue with my seatbelt. Specifically the drivers seat belt. I was witness to someone driving my car - he buckled his seat belt and it unlatched. He then buckled it again thinking he didn’t do it right - but it wouldn’t latch. This has happened to me before as well - but usually after the third try of buckling the seat belt it will work and so I thought nothing of it. Additionally, the windshield wipers do not go back to their original position after being in use.

- Summary: My wife thought she locked her keys in the car and I got a hanger to try and get in by putting hanger in window and pulling the latch for trunk and then pull the lever to fold down the back seat and then I crawled in from trunk and when I lifted the back seat to look on seat it latched and I was locked in car! I could not open any doors or windows and it was very hot that day and it was even hotter inside the car. I thought I was gonna die! I was trying to yell but nobody was around and my son in law just happen to pull up and I was screaming beating on the window and he heard me and saw me and rushed over and I told him to pull the latch in trunk to open back seat and he found the latch and I was able to crawl out. I thought I was gonna die!! You cannot get out of that car if you are inside and the locks are locked. There was a time not long before that my wife and I went to store and she went in and I was gonna come in after I got done with my phone call I was on and when I tried to open the door it would not open and I had to wait for her to come out of store to unlock the car so I could get out. After this last incident I was so shaken up I didn't know what to do until my brother in law told me to file a complaint before it happens to someone else that might not get lucky like I did and to call an attorney which is what I'm gonna do regardless of what they do about it. I'm a grown adult and could not get out of that car and if that were to happen to a child I don't wanna even think about what would happen and that is why I'm making this complaint so it can be fixed before it happens again if it already hasn't.

Take the Accord for a test drive at speeds above 55 mph to ensure that you are comfortable with the noise level. Overall, it is a great car. As someone who is tall and on the heavier side, I find it very comfortable. After two months of mixed driving, I am getting just over 30 mpg. However, the floor mats are not very durable and tend to wear out within a few months. In fact, there are online blogs where people have complained about the quality of the floor mats.

(1) After driving my car for about 5k miles, the screen in the dash started flashing 'tighten fuel cap'. Even though the fuel cap was on, I took my car to Honda, but they said nothing was wrong. (2) I noticed that the steering wheel shakes, not extremely bad but enough to raise a flag. However, Honda said nothing was wrong. (3) I have experienced some issues with the lock as well. Sometimes they will not lock after exiting the car, and I have to lock all of them manually. Although it's not a big deal, it's not expected for a 2011 vehicle, especially a Honda. Sometimes they will not unlock with the remote, but I haven't even bothered to take the car to Honda to see what the problem is. (4) Unfortunately, I had to replace the battery at 37k miles for some reason.

I understand the frustration that can come with reading negative reviews. However, it's important to keep in mind that everyone has different experiences and priorities when it comes to purchasing a car. In my personal experience, I bought this car with 48k miles and have put 22k more on it since then. It has been a great car overall, with a strong V6 engine and transmission that provide quick acceleration. While there is some road noise and body roll, I was aware of these factors before purchasing and they have not been major issues for me. The steering and front end are excellent, and I have had no complaints about reliability. In terms of fuel mileage, I average around 24 mpg in both city and highway driving. Short and sweet, this car is reliable and has it all. I have not had it in the shop once. Great in any terrain you put it through. You always hear people say Honda quality, well here you go. I purchased the car in 2001 because my car died 'literally' at the dealership. I'm so glad I picked this car. It's been the best car I've ever owned. No problems. Just change the oil, put gas in, and change the tires. That's all you need to do. I've never had any problems. It even takes the abuse of my wife's driving :).

The car has a sharp look and a great interior, with lots of features for the price. The gas mileage has been phenomenal, averaging around 35 mpg in approximately 65/35% highway/city driving. However, I have noticed that the CVT transmission is jerky at low speeds, which is quite noticeable and irritating during my stop and go commuting. I recommend test driving the car quite a bit before making your choice to see if the transmission is jerky. After living with the car for three years now, I have a lot more experience with it. I am still averaging just over 35 mpg which is awesome. Handling is sound and the car is still pretty quick, especially for a four cylinder. The car still runs well but the transmission remains a bit jerky at low speeds, although it is better than when I first got it. One annoyance is that it has a rough idle when it is cold. Once it warms up it is fine. Another con is that the car is just not that comfortable. The seats are hard and the ride is stiff. I have had to add a cushion to my seat. Also, on IL expressways, where they brush the concrete for traction, a lot of road noise enters the cabin. Not overly bad, but after driving a Fusion, I realized what a quiet car sounds like. The Accord is not that quiet, at least compared to a Fusion. Winter traction is poor as well, worse than my tiny Corolla. Also, to my knowledge, Honda has not issued any updates to the infotainment system. They could really improve in this area as it is becoming dated. But, it does connect to my phone every time so for calls, it works well. Overall, the car is just OK. Normally I keep my cars a long time, but I have already shopped for new cars but did not pull the trigger.So, while I wouldn't buy it again, my next car will prioritize comfort and quietness, two areas where the 2013 Accord falls short. I have some concerns about the CVT trans, as it tends to slip on occasion and can be jerky under initial hard acceleration. Additionally, the car has failed to start right away a couple of times, with the check engine, traction control, power steering assist, and low tire inflation lights coming on and the car going into limp mode. However, each time the issue resolved itself after a day or so. I believe this problem was due to my K&N air filter, which contains an oil additive that may have been causing a sensor fault. After removing it several years ago, I have not had the problem since. While Honda used to be known for solid quality, my experience with my Accord and previous, very poor experience with an Odyssey has led me to believe that they have declined over the years. In my opinion, they are no longer worth the premium they used to be (for used cars) because many others have caught up or even surpassed Honda, according to Consumer Reports. If you prioritize reliability, Toyota is the continued champ. By the way, even though I will take a beating on trade-in value, I continue to look at other cars. Update December 2017: With over 100k on the odometer, the car is running well.Although my original tires still had decent tread, I decided to purchase new ones as the OEM tires were too loud on the brushed concrete interstates in northern Illinois. I opted for the Michelin Premier AS tires, which are much quieter. However, my gas mileage has suffered, going from an average of over 35 mpg to about 33. Nonetheless, it is still great for this size car. I prefer the quietness over the mpg's. Everything is still functioning well, and there are no rattles or leaks of any sort. The suspension is also still performing well. Although the transmission is still a bit jerky at times, the car is performing well. Once every couple of months, when backing out of the garage and then putting it in drive, it feels like I am starting off in third gear (even though there are no gears in the CVT). I don't believe it is slipping, but who knows. Hopefully, the next 100k will be like it was for my 2005 Toyota Corolla, which went to 200k and had shown little degradation. Update 12/2019: After test driving other vehicles, I have come to appreciate my Accord more. Most other makes were not much better. It makes me like the Honda even more.

I recently purchased a 1992 Accord EX wagon with 155,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, I have had a few issues with it such as the master cylinder needing replacement for $200+, the CV joints needing replacement for $150 each, and the key lock causing the key to get stuck in the ignition for $100. Even after replacing the OEM CV joints, the left one went out after only 15,000 miles. Additionally, the timing belt must be replaced every 90,000 miles for $600. While I do like Hondas, I would recommend being cautious before making a purchase. On the other hand, I have also owned a Ford Crown Vic that has been going strong at 260,000 miles and has been relatively inexpensive to repair. It even gets 24 mpg on the road!

I used to be a die-hard Honda fan, owning both a 1991 CRX and a 1994 Civic, both of which were solid and dependable cars. However, when I purchased a new 2000 Accord, it turned out to be a lemon. I received a payout from Honda due to a frequent problem. Despite this, I decided to give Honda another chance in 2008, hoping for the same great experience I had with my previous cars. Unfortunately, my new 2008 Accord had problems from the start, with the transmitters needing to be replaced, new rear brake pads, and a new battery before the car even hit 30K. Additionally, the interior felt cheap, with the vinyl on the console armrest and door armrest bubbling up in warm weather. As a result, I have decided to go elsewhere for my next car.

The Accord 2002 V6 has had a significant number of reported transmission failures around the 110,000/120,000 mile mark. I purchased this car in the summer of 1998 because I drive a lot of miles. However, after about 2 years, I started experiencing issues with the oil. Despite taking it to several places, no one could figure out where the oil was going. Additionally, the 1998 and 1999 models have EGR problems, and unfortunately, Honda did not cover mine (or my Dad's 99) under the recall. They quoted me $400 for a replacement, but it turned out that an independent garage was able to clean it for only $65 and it's been working fine since. Another issue I've had is that the lights on my dashboard keep going out, making it difficult to see the clock, mileage, and half of my speedometer at night.
