Aside from their core automobile and motorcycle businesses, Honda also manufactures garden equipment, marine engines, personal watercraft, power generators, and other products. Since 1986, Honda has been involved with artificial intelligence/robotics research and released their ASIMO robot in 2000. Common Honda problems
Based on the complaints from owners of Honda cars, here are some common problems with Honda vehicles:
- Transmission Failure: Honda cars, including models like Accord, Civic, Odyssey, and CR-V, are known to experience transmission failure. Symptoms include slipping gears, hesitation while shifting, and difficulty accelerating. Factors contributing to this issue can be poor maintenance, overheating, and manufacturing defects. Regular transmission fluid changes and prompt inspection by a qualified mechanic are crucial to prevent and address this problem.
- Airbag Defects: Honda cars have faced issues with defective airbags, particularly those made by the Takata Corporation. These faulty airbags can explode upon deployment, posing serious safety risks. If your Honda is part of a recall for defective airbags, immediate repair is essential to ensure safety.
- Engine Problems: Despite Honda's reputation for reliable engines, some models like the Civic have reported engine stalling, loss of power, and oil leaks. Following the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, regular oil changes, tune-ups, and air filter replacements are vital to prevent and address engine issues.
- Faulty Ignition Interlock: Certain Honda models, like the Pilot, have experienced issues where the car moves due to a faulty ignition interlock. This problem arises from modifications to the ignition switch without adjusting the blocking mechanism, leading to potential damage and safety concerns.
- Power Steering Hose Failure: Exposure to high temperatures can damage the power steering hose in Honda cars, causing fluid leakage. This can lead to smoke, fire hazards, and other safety risks. Regular maintenance and inspection are crucial to detect and address power steering issues promptly.
- Electrical Issues: Honda cars may encounter electrical problems such as dead batteries, malfunctioning headlights, or faulty alternators. These issues can be caused by various factors like a faulty battery, damaged alternator, or blown fuses. Timely replacement of faulty components and proper maintenance can help prevent and resolve electrical issues.
- Premature Brake Wear: Some Honda models, like the Accord and Acura TSX, have been reported to experience premature brake wear. Front and rear brake pads may need replacement earlier than expected, potentially due to issues with the electronic brake-distribution system. Monitoring brake performance and addressing wear promptly is essential to ensure safe driving.
These common problems with Honda cars highlight the importance of regular maintenance, prompt repairs, and awareness of potential issues to ensure the longevity and safety of your vehicle.

- Summary: The automatic emergency braking system engages in times when it is not appropriate to do so. The vehicle will flash the “brake” warning light on the dashboard, will shake the steering wheel, apply light braking, and in a few instances has applied hard braking. We have been unable to determine a specific trigger for this issue. The vehicle will engage this feature on strait roads with no other vehicles or obstructions on the road. It has happened during both rainy and sunny conditions. The vehicle has also exhibited this behavior when going up and down hills both with and without other vehicles present. The vehicle will do this sometimes when other vehicles enter our lane at a safe distance and at low speeds, at or below 30 mph. The vehicle has also done this at highway speeds of 55+ mph both with and without other vehicles or obstructions in the roadway. We have experienced this while driving curvy roads both with vehicles passing in the opposite lane of traffic and when no other vehicles are present. The feature appears to randomly engage at all speeds between 15+ mph to 70+ mph with or without vehicles on the roadway. It also doesn’t appear to matter if a vehicle is in our lane, an adjacent lane, or the opposite lane of traffic. This issue was identified and has been ongoing since the vehicle was purchased in October 2023. The issue happens at least 1 time most days the vehicle is driven but can range between 1 time and 3+ times each day. The vehicle is driven consistently 30+ miles each day with occasional trips of 300-500 miles in a single day. The other issue we have noticed is the rear cross traffic warning. We have noticed something’s this will engage when no other traffic or obstacles are present. We have also observed this feature failing to engage when a vehicle or obstacle is present. This issue does not happen often but has been observed enough that is has come to my attention as a potential issue.
