2018 Honda Accord problems
The Honda Accord (Japanese: ホンダ・アコード, Hepburn: Honda Akōdo, /əˈkɔːrd/), also known as the Honda Inspire (Japanese: ホンダ・インスパイア, Hepburn: Honda Insupaia) in Japan and China for certain generations, is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1976, best known for its four-door sedan variant, which has been one of the best-selling cars in the United States since 1989. The Accord nameplate has been applied to a variety of vehicles worldwide, including coupes, station wagons, hatchbacks and a Honda Crosstour crossover.
Since its initiation, Honda has offered several different car body styles and versions of the Accord, and often vehicles marketed under the Accord nameplate concurrently in different regions differ quite substantially. It debuted in 1976, as a compact hatchback, though this style only lasted through 1989, as the lineup was expanded to include a sedan, coupe, and wagon. By the sixth-generation Accord at the end of the 1990s, it evolved into an intermediate vehicle, with one basic platform but with different bodies and proportions to increase its competitiveness against its rivals in different international markets. For the eighth-generation Accord released for the North American market in 2007, Honda had again chosen to move the model further upscale and increase its size. This pushed the Accord sedan from the upper limit of what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines as a mid-size car to just above the lower limit of a full-size car, with the coupe still rated as a mid-size car. In 2012, the ninth-generation Accord sedan, with smaller exterior dimensions, was once again classified as a mid-size car at 119 cubic feet (3.4 m3), falling just shy of the "Large Car" classification. However, the tenth-generation Accord sedan, with similar exterior dimensions, returned to full-size car status with its combined interior space of 123 cubic feet (3.5 m3); the coupe was discontinued in 2017.
In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 38 times.
In 1989, the Accord was the first vehicle sold under an import brand to become the best-selling car in the United States. As of 2020, the Accord has sold more than 18 million units.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEAT BELTS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-16
- VIN: 1HGCV1F35JA
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEAT BELTS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: During normal driving - clear weather conditions - the car will suddenly activate the forward collision braking. It will literally slam on the brakes and decrease the speed by 10-15 MPH. This happened as I was going down the drive of our neighborhood, I was at 45 MPH with no one in front of me or behind me (thankfully) and the car applied the brakes and activated the front collision warning. There is also an intermittent issue with my seatbelt. Specifically the drivers seat belt. I was witness to someone driving my car - he buckled his seat belt and it unlatched. He then buckled it again thinking he didn’t do it right - but it wouldn’t latch. This has happened to me before as well - but usually after the third try of buckling the seat belt it will work and so I thought nothing of it. Additionally, the windshield wipers do not go back to their original position after being in use.

- VIN: 1HGCV1F32JA
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I’ve been trying to get my part replaced since August and I’ve been hundreds of dollars in between that time till now WASTING MONEY! And I’ve been told by 3 different dealerships that because I wasn’t experiencing what they considered major issues that they decided to not see me for the recall based off the information provided. I spoke with someone yesterday that I spoke to weeks ago about the same thing, and was told they didn’t have the part then when I asked to speak to a manager, he put me on hold and told me the part was in. I haven’t been able to drive my car since last Friday. It’s a huge inconvenience, as getting this part replaced would eliminate that issue I had to beg and threaten ppl jobs to get it replaced! But the amount of money I’ve wasted and fallen behind on MY BILLS IS CRAZY!!!!!! Honda should be cutting me check for the money loss as result so I can pay on things I had to wait on.. or create arrangements for along with having to ask my family for help because of the money I’ve been wasting the last two months

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-03
- VIN: 1HGCV1F30JA
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: At 53,000, I began getting simultaneous errors light up the dashboard. I code reader indicated I had misfires on cylinder 3. Replaced spark plugs even though the originals are rated to near 100,000 miles. Ended up needing to have fuel injectors replaced by the dealer for $1300. Upon further research, this seems to be a common problem for these 1.5T engines caused by either faulty injectors or engine design. I purchase Honda for reliability and do not expect this kind of issue on a vehicle with that low of mileage. Honda should extend the warranty and offer reimbursement to those affected by this issue.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-08-14
- VIN: 1HGCV1F40JA
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Braking system engaged while driving, slamming on brakes for no reason within first 6 months of having purchased my 2018 Honda Accord EX. While driving the car on a normal highway with no cars in front of me, the car suddenly brakes and then the brake releases. The car came to a complete stop for no reason while driving around 55-60mph on the highway with no cars in front of me or to the sides. I couldn't get the brake pedal up off the floor of the car. After about 5 seconds, the brakes finally released, and I was able to drive again. Took car to Princeton, NJ Honda Service Department and they tried to readjust the front facing camera and the radar system. They said that it was misaligned or had been misaligned due to possible damage from a rock kicking up from road. Car was okay for about a week and then was slammed suddenly to hard brake in middle of road while driving again on highway, around 45mphs. Car was bought back to Honda dealership, and the service department solution to problem was to order a new front camera unit and replace the radar unit. New Camera Parts were on backorder, with over a 2 week wait for parts to deliver to dealership. Princeton Honda provided a loaner vehicle while awaiting parts and then repairs. Was without my new car for over 2 and half weeks. Have had no such issues with braking system since replacement and repair of a front camera and radar unit.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-16
- VIN: 1HGCV1F30JA
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The problem first started on 8-8-24 when I cranked up my car & the dashboard lit up with all of these different sensors. I called Leith Honda dealership in Aberdeen, due to that is where I take my car to be serviced at, my customer service rep (Brian) stated to wait to see if they would stay on, because of that type of car will reset itself. So later on, that day they did, go away after driving it a while. Then a sensor popped up on 8-10-24 & stayed on for just a day, then came back off again. I called again & he stated to wait again so that the car can be diagnosed, but it had cut off again. So, a few days had gone by & in the middle of driving on the highway while going 60 mph, all of the same sensors came back on & the car would not go over 40 mph due to one of the main sensors stating "Emission System Problem. Avoid Heavy Acceleration & High Speed. See Your Dealer." Along with my 21MONTH old baby in the car! DANGEROUS! My job (travel CNA) requires me to travel from facility to facility & I need my car to be reliable. The rep said it really sounds like the recall part that is going bad in my car needs to be replaced & until it stays on sticks; there is nothing that can be done. I beg to defer! Is it going to take for me to get into a car accident & jeopardize my daughter & I safety in order for the part to be replaced, after what the recall notification states that can be done while operating the vehicle. Along with the recall stating that they are only willing to replace the part for free if the car is potentially life threating or inoperable. The fact that they are taking their time replacing these parts is dangerous or mindful at all. I love my car, but I am not willing to put my daughter's life, or mine nor anyone else's life in danger by continuing driving this car and still having to pay for it. I deserve for this part & anything else that is affected, due to the part needing to be replaced. Thank you for resolving the issue.
ENGINE PROBLEM

STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-12
- VIN: 1HGCV1F31JA
- Components: STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
- Summary: During regular driving, the vehicle engine will stall and lose power, with 9 different warning lights coming on and ALL advanced driver assistance systems becoming disabled, and I believe ABS brakes being disabled as well. This is due to cylinder 3 misfires and the problem is intermittent, but the loss of power can come on randomly and is dangerous on highways as you have to pull over due to the sudden loss of engine power, restart the car, and hope the problem temporarily goes away. The L15BE engine used in 10th gen Accord engines is widely known to have a faulty engine block design leading to EARLY head gasket leaks (see links) which results in misfires and I think it is imperative that Honda issue a recall as thus far, they have been ignoring the pleas of the owners. I am planning on replacing the gasket ($4000 personal mechanic. Honda charges closer to $6000) with aftermarket parts ($400 additional) as replacing them with OEM parts would just allow this to occur again. Please contact me for more details. The youtube video goes into succinct detail of the design issue at hand which is mechanical in nature, however it directly effects driver and transportation safety: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=age8_Mi5sEU&list=PLTM0MsUKWXaQEG8lbsVJ99W1TvHbWiAXR&index=5 There are no shortage of people experiencing this and the problem extends to the entire fleet of vehicles using the L15 engine block including CRVs and Civics. https://www.driveaccord.net/threads/blown-head-gasket-any-recall.559243 https://www.reddit.com/r/accord/comments/1ag0fzm/gen_10_head_gasket_failure_update https://www.reddit.com/r/accord/comments/182zdzh/2018_honda_accord_blown_head_gasket https://www.accordxclub.com/threads/2018-honda-accord-sport-1-5-engine-fail.8781/ https://www.reddit.com/r/accord/comments/zn2srz/2018_15t_touring_with_blown_head_gasket_after_4 https://www.civicx.com/forum/threads/blown-head-gasket.83781/

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-09
- VIN: 1HGCV1F39JA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Car started not wanting to accelerate and all of the dash lights came on, thankfully it was on a rural road and not the freeway. My 20 year old daughter was driving and was so startled by what was happening the she almost went into a ditch getting to the side of the road. Hooked it up to a code machine and it said that it was misfiring so we replaced spark plugs and coils. This happened in July of this year (2024). We took it in for both of the recalls, it was a software update and a fuel pump mount replacement. In between changing plugs and coils and doing the recalls the engine started slightly shaking. The engine shaking was listed as a symptom of the bad fuel pump mount so we thought the fix for the recall would take care of the problem. We got it back after the fuel pump mount recall and it ran great for about 2 weeks. And then the shaking came back. We took it to our local Honda dealership and it turns out that it had blown head gaskets. This is a 2018 Honda Accord that has had all of its oil changes. So it seems to me that something is wrong with some components of the engine. Other than all of the indicator lights coming on the one time we never had and check engine lights come on and the car never overheated or if it did the gages never relayed this information. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I'm so glad to hear that you upgraded from a 2016 Accord Sport to the 2018 Accord Sport! It sounds like the 2018 model is a significant improvement in terms of quality, looks, interior, exterior, ride, and performance. It's great to hear that you're so happy with your new car!

I have only 200 miles on my new Honda and am delighted with the overall performance, looks, and safety. However, the front seats are very uncomfortable after sitting in them for over 15 minutes. Honda should address this problem to ensure customer satisfaction.

I was really impressed with my new Accord when I took delivery on 12.31.2017. As I drove it more and more, I fell in love with it. It's as quiet as my Audi A6 (which I know well), and has more technology for half the price! Although the driver and front passenger seating positions are not height adjustable to the point they should be, and the door sill sits way too high to rest my elbow on comfortably, the new Accord is still a pleasure to drive. If you were to take the Honda badges off this car and set it next to a new Lexus, Infiniti, or Acura, you would be hard pressed to tell them apart. The technology in the vehicle is fairly intuitive and easy to learn for anyone moderately tech-savvy. If you spend the extra money for the AT&T wifi connection, just know that it doesn't allow the apps such as Pandora, iheart, etc. to operate standalone. You still have to have a phone connected for these to work. The 1.5l turbo engine is a lot of fun once you get into the powerband, but turbo lag is evident when you start from a stop or accelerate hard to pass. However, the fuel economy of this engine makes up for a lot of its shortcomings. I'm averaging just under 30 mpg in stop and go city traffic, and almost 40 on freeway cruises. A pesky rattle developed at around 800 miles on the odometer in the right front door, dash, pillar area, and it has eluded the technicians at the dealership. It's not horrible, but it's annoying and not what I would expect from a Honda, much less a Honda in a Tuxedo (touring trim). As a current Audi owner and having previously owned models from Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Jaguar, and Lincoln, I must say I'm very impressed with the Since the 2018 Accord is the most sophisticated Accord ever built, Honda can expect to attract crossover buyers and lessees from the marques I mentioned previously and then some. This car is a winner, and I wouldn't trade it for anything other than an Accord Hybrid Touring. With better fuel economy and more horsepower without the turbo lag, the hybrid wasn't available when I bought this one.

After my wife's 1998 MB e320 4-matic experienced some serious issues, we knew it was time to retire it. We decided to purchase a 2018 Honda Accord 1.5T Sport, which I had researched and test driven previously. I have been driving it for a month now and can confidently say that it is a great car. The Honda Sensing package is particularly impressive, with intuitive and easy-to-use features. The climate control works well and the integration of Display Audio with the Tachometer screen is very cool. The front seats are supportive and comfortable, even on an 8-hour road trip. The headlights and fog lights work great and illuminate the night nicely. Although the 19I was initially disappointed when the Display Audio System (an Android-based system) crashed and rebooted itself while driving home from the dealership, even without my phone connected to it. However, after trying a Factory Data reset and opening a ticket with Honda support, the system has not crashed for over a week. It is possible that Honda pushed a software update to my car since it was connected to my home WiFi. As an IT professional with 30 years of experience, I know that software does not heal itself, but I am pleased that the Display Audio is now working well and the Android Auto integration is great. Although there is some road noise, it has improved since I changed the tires. Overall, I can confidently say that this is probably the best car I have ever owned.

You're choosing a Honda over a Mercedes or BMW, which is a great decision! However, I did experience an issue with my Accord where I heard a strange noise coming from the roof of the car. It sounds like something may be loose or broken. Have you experienced anything similar?

Despite experiencing some issues with our 2018 Touring, we have been in contact with the dealership and are confident that they will be able to resolve the problem. We have had a few visits to the dealership since January, but we appreciate their efforts to fix the issue. We have spoken to the service manager who has assured us that if the problem cannot be resolved, we may be able to swap the car for another. While we have had some frustrations, we remain optimistic that the dealership will be able to provide a satisfactory solution. We have had positive experiences with Hondas in the past and we are confident that this issue will be resolved.

I bought a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0T EX-L in January 2019, but unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the car. The radio would randomly turn off and restart, and while repositioning the car in the garage, it would display a warning to put the car in park. The road departure mitigation/lane departure warning/shaking of the steering wheel would randomly activate when the car was centered on the lane while driving on both two-lane roads and highways. The brake assist/collision avoidance also randomly activated when there was nothing in front of the car on highways. The battery had to be replaced twice in less than 3 months from the date of purchase, and the lane keep assist system would randomly steer the car off the road when going by an off-ramp on highways. The speed limit display also provided incorrect speed limits of the road it was on, like 80 or 100 MPH in a 60 MPH highway. Lastly, the air conditioning system failed after 6 months of operation with less than 4,800 miles on the car (cracked condenser). The car has been in a Honda shop 5 times in eight months. I provided photos and video files of most of these issues to the original Honda dealer, American Honda Motors Service representative, and a second Honda dealer, but unfortunately, only the air conditioner condenser was fixed. I am now pursuing Lemon Law Arbitration on this car. Despite these issues, I was able to trade-in the car. I hope this information helps you in your decision-making process.

I recently purchased a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0T Touring model with only 4,000 miles on the odometer. I must say, the car's interior is absolutely stunning! Having previously owned an Audi, I can confidently say that the materials used in the Accord are just as impressive. The 2.0T engine is incredibly powerful and the transmission is top-notch. The amount of technology included in the car is simply amazing - from the HUD and adaptive cruise to the navigation and Apple CarPlay, not to mention the heated and cooled seats. I found the interior to be extremely comfortable and the driving experience was fantastic. Unfortunately, I did experience some issues with the safety suite 'Honda Sense' a week after purchasing the car, which was a bit disappointing. However, the dealership was very helpful and after three resets of the computer, they bought the car back from me. Although I ended up purchasing a 2016 BMW 3 series instead, I must admit that I do miss the Accord. It was a truly great car, but I simply couldn't risk having any more reliability issues.

I was really excited when I got this car! I shopped around for a couple of weeks and drove several competitors, including the Camry, Malibu, Maxima, Legacy, Optima, and Sonata. In the end, I decided to go with the Accord because I had a 2014 and loved it. It was the most well-built car I've owned, with no rattles, ran great, and no issues. The 2018 Accord rides great, looks great, and has all the technology I want. Unfortunately, there are some fit/finish issues on the inside, with a HORRIBLE rattle in the heads-up display area and also on the back deck under the back windshield. The dealer and Honda of America are aware of these issues, and I've taken my car in 4 times now to try and get this issue resolved. Hopefully, they get it fixed soon, but I know that a lot of touring owners are having the exact same issue. It makes me wonder why this didn't come up with Honda when testing the car. I hope they get these issues resolved soon, but it's been a big inconvenience and kept me from enjoying an otherwise good car. Thank you for listening to my experience!

I have owned this car for three months now. Unfortunately, I have had a few issues with it. After two weeks, I had to take it to the dealer because the cooling fan in the front seat was rattling. They fixed it, but the factory seat cover was replaced with a slip-on cover that looks wrinkled and terrible. Despite being told that it would smooth out, it is still wrinkled several months later. Additionally, I have had to take the car to the shop eight times in total, for a total of 25 days, due to various problems with the sensors, back-up camera, door locks, and windshield wipers. Unfortunately, the only thing that has been fixed is the cooling fan in the seat. I have been experiencing issues with the brake slamming on by itself and the lane departure function pulling me out of my lane instead of keeping me in it, which is very unsafe. Every day, bells and lights are flashing for no reason. The service department has informed me that a bug or leaf could set the sensors off, which seems unlikely. My husband has a CRV and has had no problems whatsoever. Even he drove my car and complained about the same issues. I hope that Honda can address these problems soon, as neither my husband nor I will consider buying a Honda again.
