The Honda Accord (Japanese: ホンダ・アコード, Hepburn: Honda Akōdo, /əˈkɔːrd/), also known as the Honda Inspire (Japanese: ホンダ・インスパイア, Hepburn: Honda Insupaia) in Japan and China for certain generations, is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1976, best known for its four-door sedan variant, which has been one of the best-selling cars in the United States since 1989. The Accord nameplate has been applied to a variety of vehicles worldwide, including coupes, station wagons, hatchbacks and a Honda Crosstour crossover.

Since its initiation, Honda has offered several different car body styles and versions of the Accord, and often vehicles marketed under the Accord nameplate concurrently in different regions differ quite substantially. It debuted in 1976, as a compact hatchback, though this style only lasted through 1989, as the lineup was expanded to include a sedan, coupe, and wagon. By the sixth-generation Accord at the end of the 1990s, it evolved into an intermediate vehicle, with one basic platform but with different bodies and proportions to increase its competitiveness against its rivals in different international markets. For the eighth-generation Accord released for the North American market in 2007, Honda had again chosen to move the model further upscale and increase its size. This pushed the Accord sedan from the upper limit of what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines as a mid-size car to just above the lower limit of a full-size car, with the coupe still rated as a mid-size car. In 2012, the ninth-generation Accord sedan, with smaller exterior dimensions, was once again classified as a mid-size car at 119 cubic feet (3.4 m3), falling just shy of the "Large Car" classification. However, the tenth-generation Accord sedan, with similar exterior dimensions, returned to full-size car status with its combined interior space of 123 cubic feet (3.5 m3); the coupe was discontinued in 2017.

In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 38 times.

In 1989, the Accord was the first vehicle sold under an import brand to become the best-selling car in the United States. As of 2020, the Accord has sold more than 18 million units.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-11-29
  • VIN: 1HGCV1F41NA
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: I was getting on a freeway, via an on ramp, I was the first vehicle from the light, so there were no vehicles ahead of me. As I was about to merge onto the right lane of the freeway, my vehicle slams to a stop. The BRAKE icon appeared on the control panel, and worried about the vehicle behind me maybe hitting me, I attempt to pull to the right to get off the road. Luckily there were no vehicles on the freeway at the time close to me, and the vehicle that was behind me when I got onto the freeway on ramp, was far enough back. My vehicle only braked for a moment, but it was a hard jerk. It all lasted seconds and I managed to merge onto the freeway and continue on my way. I have not told the dealership yet, where I purchased the vehicle from, but I'm going in for regular service in a week and will address it then. There have been other times the BRAKE icon shows up, but the vehicle had never stopped on it's own before. That was a first. I have, however, noticed NUMEROUS electrical related problems with this vehicle. Well, I'm assuming it's all electrical (braking, speed, AC/heating, backup camera not working due to outside temp). I purchased it new, I'm the sole owner, it has just over 8K miles on it. I didn't bring it up with the dealer because I just chalked it up to numerous other problems I have with this vehicle, and figured I had a lemon, so it's too late to do anything about it. And most of the time if the dealer can't replicate the problem, they feel like it doesn't exist, they won't do anything anyway. I have since disabled any driver assist abilities in the vehicle. I have no issues with anyone inspecting my vehicle.

  • Summary: Suddenly all errors are alerting on the car after multiple trips to the mechanic we are finding that there is electronic computer errors with the braking system.. this is causing everything to go alert in the entire car. It is believed that the problem will cause brake lock up and safety issues. I would like an investigation into this vehicle. I tried to take it to the dealer, who told me they were far too busy to look at it but if I leave it there I could rent a vehicle from them until they get around to it. UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-23
  • VIN: 1HGCV1F37NA
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Re: Distracted Driving Awareness Month To whom it may concern: A little over a year ago, my 17-year-old car “gave up the ghost” and I bought a new Honda Accord. With this new car came a host of new-to-me technology. One item, that screen in the middle of my dashboard, is a contributing factor to the Distracted Driving Problem. Push buttons on radios were a great safety feature when first introduced. They allow drivers to change stations while driving without fiddling with the dial. Now, however, a driver takes their eyes off the road to look at the screen and select a channel or band or podcast, etc. Driving my old car, when I needed directions, I’d ask Siri to give me directions to a particular place, and she would talk me through it, giving me plenty of notice regarding when to turn, which exit to use, etc. All the while I kept my eyes on the road. Regretfully now, Siri also shows me a map on the screen indicating when to turn. Yes, she still talks to me, but there is this great temptation to take my eyes off the road and see where I’m going. During this Distracted Driving Awareness Month, I encourage you to reflect on the unnecessary road hazard that exist in the middle of the dashboard and eliminate those screens in future cars. We drove very well without them for over a century. And we don’t need another reason to take our eyes off the road.

  • Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: I had just merged onto a road and suddenly without warning the automatic emergency brakes applied. There were no vehicles in front of me or other objects. My safety and others were at risk because the vehicle suddenly braked and my control of the vehicle was considerably diminished. The road conditions were icy and it was snowing.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-08-23
  • VIN: 1HGCV2F9XNA
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: On multiple occasions, my 2022 Honda Accord has used the automatic braking system against my better judgement and almost caused traffic collisions. - It has braked when I was simply turning around in a parking lot, nearly causing a vehicle to hit me. - It brakes when I'm trying to park my vehicle in a narrow garage space, despite not being in danger of hitting anything. - It has braked at traffic intersections when it sees cars turning in front of me, almost causing vehicles behind to collide with the back of my car. I filed a complaint with Honda, but they were unhelpful. Since it's impossible to permamently disable this safety feature, their only resolution was for me to remember to temporarily disable it every time I use the vehicle. It appears that this technology is flawed and prone to malfunctioning and Honda implemented it in their vehicles to track the data by using involuntary test subjects. In my view, this warrants a federal investigation and lawsuit. Thank you.

Positive 2022 Honda Accord car reviews

  1. Ole Grimes 2024-11-06

I love all the updated features. Smooth ride and sleek.

  2. Roscoe Schimmel 2024-11-04

The Accord is a great car to drive! It handles well and stops and goes smoothly. The interior is spacious, including the trunk, which is a plus. I personally love the Sonic Grey Pearl color, which is why I chose the Sport SE. However, the ride can be a bit harsh in that version of the car. Overall, it has a European or Swedish feel, and the 1.5 liter 4-cylinder engine is mostly pleasing. Although, there is some significant turbo lag, and you really have to press the accelerator for any oomph, and then it is too much. In mixed driving, I'm averaging just under 32 mpg. I'm a bit concerned about the longevity of the tiny engine and turbocharging, as well as the CVT. If I could do it over, I would have purchased the hybrid because it doesn't take as many technology risks, and I want to keep the car for the long haul. The interior materials are decent, but not exceptional, and the infotainment system is not great, even with CarPlay. Unfortunately, on every drive, the wired CarPlay drops the signal from my phone, which can be frustrating and dangerous. It happens with all of the different phones in the family, and has no consistent conditions, so it would be impossible to replicate at the dealership. Why are automakers so terrible at simple technology? Despite these issues, the Accord is a nice vehicle that commutes well. Although it may seem like a basic machine, it gets the job done and is reliable. Overall, I would say that it is a good car to have.

  3. Oscar Abernathy 2024-10-21

I absolutely adore my Honda Accord Sport Edition, although I do have one minor issue with the cup holder. I apologize for being so particular, but it is simply too shallow for taller drinks. On the bright side, I am thrilled with the adjustable seat belt. As someone who is on the shorter side, it is a vast improvement from my previous Accord, as it no longer rubs against my neck. Additionally, the mat and carpet in the trunk are fantastic, and I even had a drawer installed that pulls out and serves as a great storage bin. The fact that the driver's seat raises up is also a huge plus, as it makes for a much more comfortable ride. The all-white exterior with black accents is simply stunning, and the middle console where the armrest is located is incredibly spacious. Overall, I find it difficult to find anything to dislike about this car. The software is also top-notch, and I am thoroughly pleased with 99.99% of my gorgeous car. I would like to extend my gratitude to Honda and my wonderful, special Sales gentleman for making this such a fabulous experience for me.

  4. Gianni Wunsch 2024-09-13

I love this car! For the price, it's definitely worth it! I'm hoping to buy one for my wife!

  5. Patrick Bashirian 2024-08-21

When it comes to choosing a car, I prioritize three main features: good mpg, plenty of space, and a bit of 'get up and go power'. I was thrilled to find all of these in the 2022 Accord, which is also a good-looking car, although looks aren't my top priority. The 1.5L motor achieves better than predicted mpg on the highway, which is perfect for my needs. With the cruise control on most of the time, I can easily get low 40's mpg, which is even better than my wife's hybrid SUV. As a musician, I need plenty of space for my speakers, guitars, and other gigging equipment, and the Accord delivers. I'm extremely satisfied overall with my purchase, and the car is comfortable on long trips too. The only minor issue I have is that the wheels are a bit too big for me at 19'. I would have preferred something smaller with meatier tires, as the low profiles on the 19's make you feel every little bump. Unfortunately, Honda didn't make very many of the LX's, which come with 17's, and that's why I had to settle for the Sport model. Overall, I'm very happy with my choice and would recommend the Accord to anyone looking for a reliable and spacious car.
