It debuted in 1976, as a compact hatchback, though this style only lasted through 1989, as the lineup was expanded to include a sedan, coupe, and wagon. By the sixth-generation Accord at the end of the 1990s, it evolved into an intermediate vehicle, with one basic platform but with different bodies and proportions to increase its competitiveness against its rivals in different international markets. For the eighth-generation Accord released for the North American market in 2007, Honda had again chosen to move the model further upscale and increase its size. This pushed the Accord sedan from the upper limit of what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines as a mid-size car to just above the lower limit of a full-size car, with the coupe still rated as a mid-size car. In 2012, the ninth-generation Accord sedan, with smaller exterior dimensions, was once again classified as a mid-size car at 119 cubic feet (3.4 m3), falling just shy of the "Large Car" classification. However, the tenth-generation Accord sedan, with similar exterior dimensions, returned to full-size car status with its combined interior space of 123 cubic feet (3.5 m3); the coupe was discontinued in 2017.
In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 38 times.
In 1989, the Accord was the first vehicle sold under an import brand to become the best-selling car in the United States. As of 2020, the Accord has sold more than 18 million units.

The front seat belt pretensioners may be missing the rivet that secures the quick connector and wire plate. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," 209, "Seat Belt Assembles," and 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."
- Consequence: A seat belt pretensioner missing a rivet will not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt pretensioner assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 8, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are MG7 and NG5.

I've owned Accords from the 8th, 9th, 10th, and now 11th generation. With each generation, the Accord has improved ride quality and technology, making it my favorite Honda model. I recently purchased a 2023 EX-L to do short and long-term reviews on its performance, which I'll share with you to help you configure your Accord to your taste. While some people find the front end a bit bland compared to the 10th gen, I still like the front grille. I don't see a Taurus like some people do, but more of a classic Accord. It's far better than the styles of the Accord from 2007 with parallelogram taillights or the jelly bean Taurus look of 2010. Here are some upfront pros and cons from my point of view: Pros - If you can afford a hybrid trim, the EX-L is the model to buy. The 17-inch wheels have low wind noise on the road and deliver the best MPG for the whole lineup. Touring is overpriced, and Sport models lack rear AC vents and connectivity. - Performance is fantastic for a hybrid. I'm not into the Accord for speed or high performance, so I don't miss the 2.0. I'm more of a nerd that gets more joy from high gas mileage. - Seats are more comfortable than the previous generation. I haven't tested them on a long road trip yet, but I feel they will be comfortable. - The driver's dash UI is improved. You can configure both sides of the driver's info display to show current music input, power flow, maintenance, trip odometer, miles to empty, etc. That is first-rate. You can configure the look and feel of the dash interface more than the last generation. - Build quality is first-rate. No squeaks, rattles, or noises that don't belong (so far). Cons - The tech/info display has a steeper learning curve than previous generations. Car reviewers have largely skipped discussing the actual setup of the UI for user preference. There are two default profiles, owner and guest, as well as the ability to create named profiles that are matched to specific drivers.I've noticed that it takes longer to connect my iPhone to the car when starting it up. Sometimes it takes 30-45 seconds, and other times I have to manually connect it and enable Apple Play again. It should be a simple one-time setup, but it's taking up time to configure it to connect automatically with every drive. Content services are now based entirely on your phone apps that port to Apple Play or Android Auto. Unfortunately, there is no longer built-in support for Sirius XM. For any music, audiobook, or maps app, you need to subscribe via your phone and use the app's Android or Apple interface. You can still get an XM 3-month trial, but you will need to negotiate that with Sirius XM directly. The built-in subscription-based apps of HondaLink, Alexa, and ATT Wifi hotspot are the only apps built into the tech interface. ATT Wifi can be acquired for $20 a month after a 3-month trial. I will probably not keep it active, but I'm testing the built-in wifi to see if it helps. I have experienced some degradation when my phone loses wifi and tries to revert to cell data and back again to wifi. Unfortunately, Blind Spot Indicator (BSI) is not standard on every trim that it should be standard on. The supplier of the mirror-based sensors cannot keep up with Honda's production demand, so many Sport, Sport-L's, EX-Ls, and EX's don't have BSI sensors. You will have to ask about each specific car you test drive or order to know if it has BSI or not. No LX's have BSI. This shortage also affects CR-Vs. Lastly, I prefer the push button design over the column shifter. Most people seem to prefer the stick shifter, but I disagree. The column shifter gets in the way of your phone and cup holders. The push button design was easy to get used to and more functional.This return to a shifter is purely a visceral change to please those who like to grab something. The placement of the power button in this generation has been jammed in tight next to the steering column and the dash, making it harder and less intuitive to reach. I wonder why it was moved to such an awkward location. I am still on the first tank of gas and getting 39.8 mpg, but I expect this to go up as the weather warms up and a fresh tank restarts the mpg calculation. Update: I just took a road trip of 229 miles each way and got 48 mpg on mostly highway miles. Can't complain about that MPG! There were a lot of potholes in Ohio and Kentucky that haven't been patched, so wear and tear on the tires/suspension could be a factor as those hard impacts add up. I'll also say that many people who drive huge pickups and SUVs and think speed limits are just guidelines while zigzagging through traffic make every road trip feel like a Mad Max movie. The Accord held its own, but I don't want any run-ins with vehicles literally twice its size. Overall, I'm still very happy with the new Accord despite the cons I've listed above. It drives like a dream and is built rock solid. Update June 2023: the average mpg in summer weather is 50.5. Mileage actually seems better in Normal mode than Econ. Can't explain that one, but you can try it for yourself. On USB as a music source, you can copy m4a (AAC) or .mp3 to folders on a USB thumb drive with Type C connector. Playback is flaky at first as the radio needs to scan through all files in a folder to read them and identify the true music files from supporting files. It will initially report 'unsupported format' until it completes the scan. Then, it will play back music files in order or random based on setting. USB sometimes stops without warning and needs to be restarted with Play button. The Accord has a nice Music Library view to see folder names and artists that older USB players on Honda's do not have.Overall, it's really convenient to have music on a tiny USB that's tailored to your taste and saves on music subscription. However, there can be a few kinks in the playback process. I'm still loving the car even after 2500 miles. Update December 2023: I still love this car after 9 months, but I'm finding it increasingly difficult to lower myself into the driver's seat. If you aren't nimble and in shape, this car can be low and awkward to enter. Once seated, I love the drive, but getting in and out at age 59 is getting tougher. No wonder Honda can't stock enough CR-Vs for its old Accord buyers. The gas mileage on EX-L is still great, with winter numbers around 38-43 mpg.

Updated: 11/28/23: This car has been absolutely amazing and has exceeded all of our expectations. The gas mileage on the highway has been stellar, with some instances returning up to 50 miles per gallon. We primarily use this car for commuting on the highway, often driving distances of 200+ miles or more, and it has proven to be an excellent travel companion. While we have experienced occasional issues with the infotainment system freezing or refusing to boot up, we have found that simply turning everything off, opening the driver door, and letting the system reset usually does the trick. The car has plenty of power for getting up to speed to merge onto the highway, and while there is some minor droning of the engine going up stretches like the Grapevine (highway 5), overall we are extremely happy with our purchase. As first-time Honda Accord owners and second-time Honda product owners (we also own an Acura MDX and Chevrolet Silverado), we were blown away by the quick acceleration, smooth ride (even over lousy California highways), and awesome new interior design language of our 2023 Honda Accord Touring (which we just took delivery of on 5/11/23). This car has some of the nicest technology we have seen compared to our family Acura MDX. So far, we have only had the car for a day and driven 100 miles, but it has already been a blast to drive. And unlike many other cars that require premium fuel, this car runs on regular gas! As first-time Honda Accord and Honda owners, we are thrilled with our purchase. Coming from owning more than 3 Camrys, this car has exceeded our expectations not only for an Accord but for a hybrid. The transition between gas and electric is nearly imperceptible, unlike previous hybrids we have driven from other brands where the transition was noticeable. We are very happy with the car so far and believe it will make an excellent travel companion.

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your new Accord! The styling is great and the infotainment system is simple and easy to use. The moonroof being standard in the EX is a nice touch, and the spacious interior is definitely a plus. The pearlescent white paint is beautiful and the fact that you're getting 40 mpg on the highway is impressive. The handling and traction are excellent, and the safety features like lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and collision mitigation braking system are definitely reassuring. The sound system is also good, and the organized and clean appearance under the hood is remarkable. The Honda Service Pass is a great bonus too, with complimentary factory-scheduled maintenance over the first 24k miles / two years. I understand that you're not a fan of the acceleration noise and road noise, and that the seats aren't as comfortable as your previous Accord. However, overall it sounds like you're very happy with your purchase and I hope you continue to enjoy driving your Accord for years to come!

The passenger seat height is uncomfortable and cannot be adjusted, which can be frustrating. It would be great if Honda could consider making adjustments possible on the passenger seat to accommodate passengers of different heights. As someone who is 5'6

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your first Accord! It sounds like you're really impressed with the build quality, ride quality, handling, and infotainment system. And getting 58mpg with mixed driving is fantastic! I also love how the Regenerative capability yields maximum mpg and reduces brake wear. The interior and exterior may be minimalist, but they're very functional. It's great to hear that the BSI and parking sensors are effective, and the rear camera is very good for reversing. Overall, it sounds like you've found a practical car with plenty of room and storage space that you can see yourself driving for many years to come.

Automatically turned off while passengers are still inside the car. If you want stop by at walmart while your family wants to stay in the car due to heat outside, car shut down after few mins by itself. Its very dangerous specially for the kids. My family called me about this issue, i left the cart as it is to see what happen than i restart the engine and went back to walmart, than again they called me after 15 mins for the same reason. Its terrible.

I've been feeling a bit disappointed with my recent purchase of the 2023 Accord LX. I've been hearing comments that it looks like an older Ford Taurus, which is not what I was hoping for. Additionally, the engine has been quite loud and cranky, which is not ideal. I've also been receiving frequent system update notices, which is a bit frustrating considering the car only has 750 miles on it. Overall, I'm a bit disappointed with my purchase and regret rushing into it. However, I appreciate the opportunity to share my honest assessment of the car.

I have been a loyal Honda customer for years, having purchased over 25 new Honda vehicles for my family. However, my recent experience with their customer service has left me disappointed. It seems that the brand is not what it used to be. Unfortunately, the Honda Roadside Assistance has been outsourced to a non-Honda company, which has resulted in longer wait times during emergencies. Despite this, I am hopeful that Honda will take steps to improve their customer service and restore their brand to its former glory.

I've been a Honda owner for most of my life, so I was excited to check out the new 2023 Accord redesign. However, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with what I saw. While the car looks great in pictures and videos, it didn't quite live up to my expectations in person. The back of the car looks a bit dated, like something out of the 90s, and the front is fairly basic. It's not as exciting or appealing as some of its competitors. As for the drive, I did notice a few things that could be improved. For one, the seats felt a bit low and uncomfortable, and I'm not sure if they can be adjusted. Additionally, the 1.5 turbo engine was a bit underpowered and noisy, and there was quite a bit of road noise. Overall, I wasn't thrilled with my experience and ended up returning the vehicle to the dealer. I think I'll wait to see what the 2024 redesigned Camry has to offer, or maybe consider a Kia or Hyundai instead.
