Jeep problems
Jeep is an American automobile marque, now owned by multi-national corporation Stellantis. Jeep has been part of Chrysler since 1987, when Chrysler acquired the Jeep brand, along with other assets, from their previous owner American Motors Corporation (AMC).
Jeep's current product range consists solely of sport utility vehicles—both crossovers and fully off-road worthy SUVs and models, including one pickup truck. Previously, Jeep's range included other pick-ups, as well as small vans, and a few roadsters. Some of Jeep's vehicles—such as the Grand Cherokee—reach into the luxury SUV segment, a market segment the 1963 Wagoneer is considered to have started. Jeep sold 1.4 million SUVs globally in 2016, up from 500,000 in 2008, two-thirds of which in North America, and was Fiat-Chrysler's best selling brand in the U.S. during the first half of 2017. In the U.S. alone, over 2400 dealerships hold franchise rights to sell Jeep-branded vehicles, and if Jeep were spun off into a separate company, it is estimated to be worth between $22 and $33.5 billion—slightly more than all of FCA (US). Antonio Filosa is the current CEO of the Jeep brand worldwide.
Prior to 1940 the term "jeep" had been used as U.S. Army slang for new recruits or vehicles, but the World War II "jeep" that went into production in 1941 specifically tied the name to this light military 4×4, arguably making them the oldest four-wheel drive mass-production vehicles now known as SUVs. The Jeep became the primary light four-wheel-drive vehicle of the United States Armed Forces and the Allies during World War II, as well as the postwar period. The term became common worldwide in the wake of the war. Doug Stewart noted: "The spartan, cramped, and unstintingly functional jeep became the ubiquitous World War II four-wheeled personification of Yankee ingenuity and cocky, can-do determination." It is the precursor of subsequent generations of military light utility vehicles such as the Humvee, and inspired the creation of civilian analogs such as the original Series I Land Rover. Many Jeep variants serving similar military and civilian roles have since been designed in other nations.
The Jeep marque has been headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, ever since Willys–Overland launched production of the first CJ or Civilian Jeep branded models there in 1945. Its replacement, the conceptually consistent Jeep Wrangler series, has remained in production since 1986. With its solid axles and open top, the Wrangler has been called the Jeep model that is as central to the brand's identity as the 911 is to Porsche.
At least two Jeep models (the CJ-5 and the SJ Wagoneer) enjoyed extraordinary three-decade production runs of a single body generation.
In lowercase, the term "jeep" continues to be used as a generic term for vehicles inspired by the Jeep that are suitable for use on rough terrain. In Iceland, the word Jeppi (derived from Jeep) has been used since World War II and is still used for any type of SUV.

Common Jeep problems
Jeep is a well-known brand for producing robust and reliable vehicles, but like all manufacturers, there are common problems that have been reported by owners. These issues vary from minor inconveniences to significant faults that could lead to dangerous situations. Here are some of the most common problems with Jeep cars:
- Water Leaks in Wrangler: Drivers expect their off-road vehicles to be able to handle rough terrain, but the Jeep Wrangler has been reported to have issues with leaking door seals, particularly in the 2002 and 1987 models. The front A pillar on the 1987 model is infamous for this issue. Even a slight leak can cause moisture build-up in a car, leading to electrical problems and mold growth. JeepProblems.com also reports leaks in the Jeep Patriot and Compass.
- Shaky Steering Wheel: Some of Jeep’s top models, particularly the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee, are reported to experience what Jeep owners call the Death Wobble. This issue is described as a situation where the front axle begins violently causing the car to shake or wobble in a manner that makes the vehicle hard to control. While this hasn’t been the cause of any accidents, it’s an issue that should be addressed. If your Jeep is experiencing this issue, bring your car in for a service and check. Parts of your steering may be worn or loose, so it’s best to be safe.
- Exhaust Leaks: Some Jeep models, particularly the 4.0 litre 6-cylinder engine in the 1987-2001 Cherokee, the 1993-2004 Grand Cherokee, and the 1991-2006 Wrangler, have been particularly prone to springing exhaust leaks. The exhaust manifold could develop cracks after many cycles of heating up and cooling down, leading to leaks. If your jeep is any of these models or you’ve experienced ticking sounds from the engine or reduced fuel mileage, this could be a sign that you have an exhaust leak. This should be fixed as soon as possible.
- Ignition Switch Recall: If you own a 2006 or 2007 Grand Cherokee or Commander, you may have missed a recall on their ignition switches which caused the engine to switch off while driving. 1AAuto reported that 2006 and 2007 Grand Cherokees and Commanders could develop an ignition switch fault that could lead to the engine switching off while driving. If you’ve experienced this fault or your vehicle hasn’t had the part replaced, you should get this replaced by your dealer as soon as possible.
- Window Motor Failure: JeepProblems also reported an issue that saw Jeep windows falling back into the door as a result of a damaged regulator. They detailed a notice sent out to owners regarding an extended warranty and claimed that they have heard only good things from owners who have had the repair done under warranty. However, issues were seen in vehicles that had different regulators, so the recall covers a number of models that might seem unrelated.
In conclusion, while Jeep is a well-known brand for producing robust and reliable vehicles, there are common problems that have been reported by owners. These issues vary from minor inconveniences to significant faults that could lead to dangerous situations. By staying on top of repairs and maintenance, Jeep owners can help ensure that their vehicles remain safe and reliable.

- Summary: 3 times now my car has engaged it's own parking brake and I haven't been able to disengage it. The first and last time it engaged itself in a parking lot after I started my car. The first time I had it towed and the issue had resolved itself before the dealer had a chance to look and since they could not duplicate the issue they let it go. The second time I had it towed to my local mechanic who had to physically disconnect it and reconnect it to get it to disengage. The second time it happened while I was stopped at a stop sign. This third time it engaged at my sons parking school after I started the car. I had it towed to my local mechanic, he disconnected and reconnected and it keeps instantly re-engaging. This is an on-going issue and clearly if it engages itself while running (happened once) is a major safety concern.

- Summary: The Jeep has had major issues with the fuel system. The first reported issue is during the fill the filler would click like it was full when it was in the beginning stages of the fill. It ended up soaking me with gasoline and shutting down a gas station for spill. I filed a complaint with the NHTSA and the Vermont Attorney General because the dealerships were not fixing the problem. The fuel tank was finally repaired when the Attorney General got involved. 2024 the Jeep is again having issues with the fuel system. When the tank is filled to capacity it creates gasoline fumes so strong that it infiltrates the cabin and can be detected from the parking lot. It is really scary to keep having issues with the fuel system. I am shocked after reading on the internet so many Jeep owners with fuel system issues that the vehicles are not on recall. I want to report this because it is a safety issue.

- Summary: As of this date: Started about a year ago, when Jeep was over 150,000 miles. When accelerating to turn or from a stop sign or light, vehicle would stall, mimicking the feeling the vehicle ran out of gas. This occurred about once a month. Working at home and not driving my vehicle as much its hard to say if it would have occurred more often. Checked for any codes, none appeared. As I have recently started driving back in the office 3 days a week, the issue of stalling at any given time with no warning began occurring more often. Took it to trusted local service shop, they changed the purge valve pump and gas cap, as they were puzzled on the problem. Did not seem to matter if gas was full, half or under half. The issue occurred twice within 2 weeks. Service shop recommended taking to dealership. Jeep dealership are not aware of any similar issues. Which I found interesting as I researched and found massive posts from various jeep forums as well as this one. They capped off hose to charcoal canister, hoping that would help. And told me its a process of elimination at this point. The next evening it stalled again. I have now parked my vehicle as this has become a safety hazard. Stalling anywhere at any given moment could cause a tragic accident. will be contacting dealership to voice my concern. Hoping for a positive resolution.

- VIN: 1C4RJFCM1EC
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: While traveling at freeway speeds the engine suddenly died. The vehicle was taken to an independent shop where they confirmed the cause was a connecting rod failure. They commented this is a common failure in the 2014-2016 Jeep grand Cherokee eco diesels along with the same model year dodge ram 1500s. There was no warning signs of this issue and the independent shop stated they have not been able to find a root cause as similar to our case the engine had plenty of oil in it to prevent this issue. During this event I also reviewed the engine temp and oil temps all were well within the normal operating temps. This put others and my own life at risk as we lost complete power. Fortunately I was on a straight stretch and in the far lane so I was able to safely coast to a stop. This could lead to a very different outcome. The component has not been inspected by police or insurance agents as it’s been claimed this is not a covered component under previous FCA extended warranties for a faulty emission system.

- Summary: The navigation/radio screen has delamination. At first, I thought it was just cosmetic. Starting in July of 2024, it started doing things independently, such as changing channels, the source, and switching between navigation and backup camera; on Oct 4, 3024, it started turning on Bluetooth and calling 911. I can not turn it on because it continues to call 911. The vehicle only has 20,900 miles. The local dealership and Jeep are aware of the problem and have offered to repair it at a cost to me. This is a manufacture defect that needs to be fixed/recalled by Jeep.

- Summary: The manufacturer has not been able to remedy the batteries for electrical propulsion, saying "no remedy available ". Makes me hesitant to drive or park near other vehicles or structures. I have also complained to the dealership, where I purchased my Jeep, about a wobble/shake in the front-end when driving over bumps. After two attempts they have not been able to find a reason for or repair my vehicle. When driving in rain, this condition makes control a dangerous issue in heavy traffic. The most recent occurance was on [XXX] where the posted speed limit is 80mp, accompanied by heavy 18 wheeler traffic! I have also experienced the wobble/shake when traveling [XXX] from Texas to Louisiana, in the rain, surrounded by heavy automobile & 18 wheel traffic once again. This is a very stressful and uncomfortable situation to be in. I have experienced the wobble/shake soon after the purchase of my Jeep, still exists after several mechanical inspections at the dealership where purchased. I have also written a letter to the manufacturer, dated August 22, 2024, for these issues & the devaluation that exists with this particular model, to date I have not received a response! There is no excuse for the inability to repair or respond to my concerns! I have a copy of my letter to Customer Care for Stellantis & recall & repair documents; I am unable to upload at this time. - Summary: On October 26, 2024, I stopped at a gas station to pick up a few items, turning my vehicle off before going inside. When I returned about five minutes later, the vehicle wouldn’t start. The fuel pump module wasn’t supplying fuel to the high-pressure pump. Since it wouldn’t start, I left it at the station overnight. The next afternoon, after about an hour of attempts, the fuel pump module finally engaged, and the vehicle started, running normally. This issue had actually occurred once before, about a year ago, while I was pulling out into traffic. At that time, the vehicle stalled, and I had to push it out of traffic and into a nearby parking lot. The fuel pump module was also silent then, indicating it wasn’t functioning. Fortunately, after around five minutes, I was able to restart the vehicle without further issues. The vehicle hasn’t exhibited this issue since—until last night. If you research this problem online, it seems there are other reports of similar incidents with Jeep Grand Cherokees and Ram 1500 models equipped with the EcoDiesel engin
