2005 Honda Accord problems
The Honda Accord (Japanese: ホンダ・アコード, Hepburn: Honda Akōdo, /əˈkɔːrd/), also known as the Honda Inspire (Japanese: ホンダ・インスパイア, Hepburn: Honda Insupaia) in Japan and China for certain generations, is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1976, best known for its four-door sedan variant, which has been one of the best-selling cars in the United States since 1989. The Accord nameplate has been applied to a variety of vehicles worldwide, including coupes, station wagons, hatchbacks and a Honda Crosstour crossover.
Since its initiation, Honda has offered several different car body styles and versions of the Accord, and often vehicles marketed under the Accord nameplate concurrently in different regions differ quite substantially. It debuted in 1976, as a compact hatchback, though this style only lasted through 1989, as the lineup was expanded to include a sedan, coupe, and wagon. By the sixth-generation Accord at the end of the 1990s, it evolved into an intermediate vehicle, with one basic platform but with different bodies and proportions to increase its competitiveness against its rivals in different international markets. For the eighth-generation Accord released for the North American market in 2007, Honda had again chosen to move the model further upscale and increase its size. This pushed the Accord sedan from the upper limit of what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines as a mid-size car to just above the lower limit of a full-size car, with the coupe still rated as a mid-size car. In 2012, the ninth-generation Accord sedan, with smaller exterior dimensions, was once again classified as a mid-size car at 119 cubic feet (3.4 m3), falling just shy of the "Large Car" classification. However, the tenth-generation Accord sedan, with similar exterior dimensions, returned to full-size car status with its combined interior space of 123 cubic feet (3.5 m3); the coupe was discontinued in 2017.
In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 38 times.
In 1989, the Accord was the first vehicle sold under an import brand to become the best-selling car in the United States. As of 2020, the Accord has sold more than 18 million units.

Common 2005 Honda Accord problems
The 2005 Honda Accord is a popular mid-size vehicle known for its reliability, but like any car, it has its common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues with the 2005 Honda Accord, based on complaints from owners:
- Ignition Switch: The ignition switch can fail, causing the vehicle not to start. This issue is common in the 7th generation Honda Accord, including the 2005 model. The symptom of a bad ignition switch is that the vehicle won't start. The ignition switch is located at the base of the lock cylinder housing, and if your vehicle doesn't start, it's always a good idea to check with the battery first, but it's probably the ignition switch .
- Door Latch Actuators: The door latch actuators can fail, causing the doors not to lock or unlock properly. This issue is common in the 7th generation Honda Accord, including the 2005 model. The latch actuator is attached to the lock latch assembly, but it is sold separately. Symptoms include doors that won't lock or unlock, and sometimes they may lock and unlock on their own. The problems are often intermittent .
- Taillights: The taillights can have issues due to a brittle gasket on the backside of the taillight. If the gasket gets brittle, water can enter the taillight, causing it to malfunction. This issue is common in the 7th generation Honda Accord, including the 2005 model. The taillight may need to be replaced if this happens .
- Engine Mounts: The engine mounts can wear out over time, causing excessive vibration when the vehicle is idling. This issue is common in the 7th generation Honda Accord, including the 2005 model. The engine mounts are located at the front, bottom, and back of the engine, and they can become brittle over time, causing them to fail. Replacing the engine mounts can solve this problem .
- Automatic Transmission: The automatic transmission can have issues with harsh shifting and the check engine light coming on. This issue is common in the 7th generation Honda Accord, including the 2005 model. The problem could be due to dirty or low transmission fluid, or it could be due to internal transmission failure. If the transmission fluid is not the issue, then the transmission may need to be replaced .
In summary, while the 2005 Honda Accord is a reliable vehicle, it is not without its common problems. Owners of this vehicle may experience issues with the ignition switch, door latch actuators, taillights, engine mounts, and automatic transmission. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these issues and ensure the longevity of the vehicle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-05-12
- VIN: 1HGCM56805A
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: Since I have owned this vehicle (bought used with 68,000 miles) it has had an issue that over 10 mechanics have not yet solved. It has slowly escalated to the point it is now unable to be driven at 250,000 miles. It is an idle issue, the car started revving up to around 3,000 rpm’s (on hot days it seemed but it also started to happen in the winter ) whenever I would put the car into park after driving it a small amount of time. The safety mechanism would kick in on the vehicle making it impossible to put back into gear and I would be forced to shut the car off and let it rest for around 30 minutes before it would start without immediately revving up to the red line again. I’ve replaced everything that every mechanic has told me that it could be. Even tried to replace almost everything all at once. Over time this issue began to get extremely worse and the vehicle would start to accelerate on its own to the point I almost crashed it three different times because I would be unable to slow the vehicle down coming to a stop sign and I’d have to throw the e brake on while pressing the main brake system. Afterwards I’d have to quickly find a parking spot and shut the car off due to the damage I felt like the engine was taking. Then it seemed like possibly an electrical issue because the power would drain overnight and the car wouldn’t start without a jump even after replacing the starter, alternator, battery, etc. I’ll end by saying now when I can get the car started, the last time that I drove it, it had the same issue of accelerating on its own and the rpm’s increasing to around 2,500 or 3,000 or even more at times and felt as if the automatic transmission was missing or slipping gears and the car would almost stall out and shake violently as if you were driving a manual transmission and it was the moment right before you killed the engine. The last time I drove it I had to pull over at a gas station and call someone to come pick me up and pull the car home.

Mechanic also cannot figure that out, I've paid over 6k in diagnosis, repairs and time trying to get help and nothing. I would like to get my honda checked and fixed. I Anxiously await a response and solution to this car. I have Covid and this is my only source of transportation.

- Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2004-2007 Accord vehicles manufactured October 1, 2003, to August 17, 2007. The affected vehicles may have been assembled with an incorrect passenger frontal air bag module that does not comply with the advanced air bag requirements. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
- Consequence: An air bag module does not meet the advanced air bag requirements can increase the risk of injury or death in the event of a crash.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the air bag module as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 2, 2016. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009. Honda's number for this recall is JZ3.

The affected vehicles have a passenger side frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture upon its deployment.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the passenger seat occupant or other occupants possibly causing serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are JU4, JU5, JU6, and JU7. Note: Vehicles that have already received a replacement passenger air bag inflator as part of the recall remedy for an earlier campaign such as 14V353 or 14V700 (Honda recall numbers S95, JH6, JH7, JH8, JH9, JJ0, JJ1, JJ2, JJ6, JM5 and JM6) are not included in this recall. However, this recall does supersede 13V132 and 14V349. - Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2001-2007 Accord, 2001-2005 Civic, 2001-2004 Honda Civic GX, 2003-2005 Honda Civic Hybrid, 2002-2006 CR-V, 2003-2011 Element, 2002-2004 Odyssey, 2003-2008 Pilot, 2006 Ridgeline, 2003 Acura 3.2CL, 2003-2006 Acura MDX, and 2002-2003 Acura 3.2TL vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion and other factors, including manufacturing variability that, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Owners may contact Acura customer service at 1-800-382-2238, select option 4. Note: Vehicles that have had their driver frontal air bag replaced previously as part of a recall remedy prior to September 12, 2014 need to have their air bag replaced under this recall as well. Vehicles that, on or after September 12, 2014, received a remedy for a prior driver frontal air bag inflator recall already received an inflator of a different design, and therefore are not included in this recall and do not require additional servicing. - Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the inflators in all affected vehicles, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during August 2014. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009.
- Manufacturer: HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
- Components: STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS
- Summary: Honda is recalling certain model year 2007 and 2008 Acura TL and model year 2003-2007 Accord V6 vehicles. In May 2012, Honda filed a defect report to recall certain model year 2007 and 2008 Acura TL vehicles. In September 2012, Honda informed the agency that it was including an additional 573,147 vehicles including certain model year 2003 through 2007 Accord V6 vehicles. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 625,762. Prolonged under-hood and power steering fluid temperatures may cause the power steering hose to deteriorate prematurely, resulting in cracks and power steering fluid leakage.
- Consequence: If this occurs, power steering fluid can leak onto a hot catalytic converter, leading to smoke and possibly an under-hood fire.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install a new heat resistant power steering hose, free of charge. The original recall began in June 2012, and owners of those vehicles may obtain the free remedy. Sufficient parts are not yet available for owners of the vehicles covered by the September 2012 expansion, but are expected to be available in early 2013. Honda will notify owners of these vehicles beginning on October 26, 2012, and will notify these owners again when parts are available so those vehicles can be brought to dealers for applications of the free remedy. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009.

- Summary: HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 ACCORD, 2007-2010 CR-V, AND 2005-2008 ELEMENT PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 1, 2004, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 3, 2010. THE OUTER RACE OF THE SECONDARY SHAFT BEARING MAY BE BROKEN DURING CERTAIN DRIVING STYLES. A BROKEN OUTER RACE MAY CAUSE ABNORMAL NOISE, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT TO TURN ON, AND ALLOW CONTACT BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION IDLE GEAR AND AN ELECTRONIC SENSOR HOUSING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION.
- Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. ADDITIONALLY, BROKEN PIECES OF THE OUTER RACE OR BALL BEARING FROM THE SECONDARY SHAFT MAY BECOME LODGED IN THE PARKING PAWL RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING AFTER THE DRIVER HAS PLACED THE GEAR SELECTOR IN THE PARK POSITION. ENGINE STALL AND UNEXPECTED VEHICLE MOVEMENT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY TO PERSONS WITHIN THE PATH OF A ROLLING VEHICLE.
- Remedy: HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 27, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AUTOMOBILE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

Hello! I've been the proud owner of my Accord for 6 and a half years now. It was actually my first Honda, and I was so impressed with its value and reliability that I went ahead and purchased an Odyssey as well. While my Accord may not have the flashiest appearance, it has been completely trouble-free for the 53,000 miles I've driven it. I'm also happy to report that it gets a solid 26 mpg in mixed driving, and once even achieved an impressive 37.1 mpg on a 320 mile trip with the cruise set at 70 mph. When the time comes, I'll definitely consider getting another Accord, and I'm already planning on handing this one off to my nine-year-old when he gets his driver's license. Thanks for reading!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my Honda Accord. I've been the only owner since I purchased it new, and it's been such a reliable car. With about 108,000 miles on it, I haven't had any major issues, except for the rear passenger side door that just locked and won't unlock. I'm planning to take it to the dealership to get it fixed. I make sure to have it serviced regularly, and I couldn't be happier with my choice of buying a Honda. In fact, I'm already planning to give it to my son in four years, and I'm confident it will last him through his last few years of high school and college! Thanks for listening.

Bought this car used in 2008 when it had 39,000 miles. Now has 78,000 and going strong. It's a great solid, safe, and reliable car. If you're looking for a car that will get you where you need to go, this is the one for you. It has decent power too which is nice. Although it's not the most exciting car to look at or drive, it's a great car in my opinion. Some things to note -- The 2005 Accord is a very big sedan. It is longer than my 2011 CRV, and it was not super easy to fit it into the garage, and then it leaves little room to walk around it (depending on the size of your garage and what you have in it). This year Accord also has a design flaw that allows road debris to damage the air conditioning condenser. This happened to my Accord. So, at this point, although a reliable car in most ways, I would not buy it again if I know now what I did then.

The car has been in my possession for 10 years and despite the current IMA issues, I am confident that a replacement or repair of the IMA battery will restore it to its former condition.

My husband and I have been loyal Hybrid Accord owners for years. We are excited to purchase our second one soon, as we have had a great experience with our first one. Although we did experience a few issues, such as battery failure after 9 years and air conditioning unit failure after 14 years, we are optimistic that the newer hybrid models have improved in these areas. We have also had some trouble with door locks in the past, but we hope that Honda has resolved this issue by now. We have owned other car brands in the past, but none have compared to the reliability and quality of our Hybrid Accord. We are looking forward to another 15 years of happy driving with our new Accord!

The mileage is very poor, only 17 in the city, even after reaching 25000 miles. Additionally, the leather interior is of poor quality, too thin, and already showing white marks on the black leather. There is also a dealership recall for the transmission, and a bad blind spot that makes it unsafe and uneasy when backing up. Furthermore, it is not very comfortable for passengers, especially in the back, during long trips. We were expecting more from Honda, and unfortunately, this one did not meet our expectations. It is too expensive for what it is, especially if you drive more than 10000 miles a year. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.

I bought this car used and it was a smooth and comfortable ride with great gas mileage. However, I want to inform other consumers about the potential cost of replacing the IMA Hybrid battery, which can be quite expensive. At a dealership, you could be looking at a cost of around 3500 to 4500 dollars. If you search online, you may find some options starting at 1600 dollars. It's also worth noting that these cars are designed to be serviced only at the dealership, but unfortunately, not all technicians there have the necessary knowledge to diagnose or fix problems with these vehicles.

While the Accord V6 has received some negative feedback, it's important to consider all aspects before making a decision. Some customers have reported issues with the paint quality and transmission, but it's worth noting that the driving capability for a sedan is impressive. Additionally, there have been recalls on the 2003 and 2004 transmissions, but Honda does not believe it affected the 2005 model. It's always a good idea to do your research and make an informed decision when purchasing a vehicle. Thank you for considering the Accord.

Hello! As a lifelong Honda customer, I never thought I would have to write a review like this, but given my recent experience, I feel compelled to share. In September, my check engine light came on and I took my car to the dealer. The service adviser informed me that if it was a different code, it would cost an additional $90. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the same code - P1009 (VTC actuator fail). The adviser then told me that my car was burning oil inside the engine and that I would need a new engine for $2500. I was completely shocked and didn't know what to say. After a few minutes, I asked to speak with the manager, who explained that sometimes engines do fail like this. I was disappointed with the news, but I appreciated the honesty and transparency of the staff. Thank you for taking the time to read my experience.

I bought an '05 Accord EX w/Leather in 10/04 from Performance Honda in Fairfield OH. Unfortunately, by 11/04, the windshield began making noises. I tried twice to get this fixed, but unfortunately, both attempts failed. I called Honda Care to express my concerns about the car (not the dealer), but unfortunately, the service manager took it personally and the situation became unpleasant. Despite this, I still value my relationship with Honda and hope to continue using their products. However, the windshield still makes noises and the problem is spreading throughout the interior. The rear window, passenger side molding, driver's door window, etc., all pop, creak and snap. Overall, it has been a frustrating and unpleasant experience.
