Honda Accord 2003 problems
The Honda Accord (Japanese: ホンダ・アコード, Hepburn: Honda Akōdo, /əˈkɔːrd/), also known as the Honda Inspire (Japanese: ホンダ・インスパイア, Hepburn: Honda Insupaia) in Japan and China for certain generations, is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1976, best known for its four-door sedan variant, which has been one of the best-selling cars in the United States since 1989. The Accord nameplate has been applied to a variety of vehicles worldwide, including coupes, station wagons, hatchbacks and a Honda Crosstour crossover.
Since its initiation, Honda has offered several different car body styles and versions of the Accord, and often vehicles marketed under the Accord nameplate concurrently in different regions differ quite substantially. It debuted in 1976, as a compact hatchback, though this style only lasted through 1989, as the lineup was expanded to include a sedan, coupe, and wagon. By the sixth-generation Accord at the end of the 1990s, it evolved into an intermediate vehicle, with one basic platform but with different bodies and proportions to increase its competitiveness against its rivals in different international markets. For the eighth-generation Accord released for the North American market in 2007, Honda had again chosen to move the model further upscale and increase its size. This pushed the Accord sedan from the upper limit of what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines as a mid-size car to just above the lower limit of a full-size car, with the coupe still rated as a mid-size car. In 2012, the ninth-generation Accord sedan, with smaller exterior dimensions, was once again classified as a mid-size car at 119 cubic feet (3.4 m3), falling just shy of the "Large Car" classification. However, the tenth-generation Accord sedan, with similar exterior dimensions, returned to full-size car status with its combined interior space of 123 cubic feet (3.5 m3); the coupe was discontinued in 2017.
In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 38 times.
In 1989, the Accord was the first vehicle sold under an import brand to become the best-selling car in the United States. As of 2020, the Accord has sold more than 18 million units.

- Summary: (Please check the attached full complaint letter) I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention a concerning matter regarding my experience with the American Honda Motor Company. As a loyal consumer and a law-abiding citizen, I believe it is crucial to address issues that impact consumers and the general public. Since 2013, I have been trying to resolve a critical issue with my brand-new Honda Accord car I bought from Honda. Unfortunately, American Honda company didn’t resolve the issue that affected my car and hundreds of thousands of the same cars’ owners that they sold in NJ and in 22 salt belt states. My argument with the American Honda company is that they have a major design issue with their front left and right axles for Honda Accord cars that have been manufactured since 2003.

AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-10-10
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- VIN: jhmcm56623c
- Components: AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS
- Summary: My son is an approved seatbelt claimant in the Takata Bankruptcy class action suit. (#4842) He became a paraplegic when his 2003 Honda Accord rolled once after encountering a road surface change from asphalt to gravel. His seatbelt pre-tensor failed as did his airbags. His T-13 L-1 spinal cord injury is conducive to seat belt failure. . A bone spur from his vertebre broke off and went into his spinal cord. By the time our head cleared from the whole ordeal, we were one month out of the statue of limitations. (which is 2 years in the state of Colorado) Shortly thereafter we received a card in the mail informing us of the Takata class action suit. We were glad we still had an avenue for an injury claim. Fast forward 4+ years and we have recently found out that the 33 approved Takata seatbelt claimants have $1,140,000 to share amongst themselves. Some claimants lost loved ones from the faulty seatbelt sensors and seatbelt malfunctions. Based on this current fund amount, Lee will likely only receive between 20,000 to 40,000 for his injury. Very little for the inability to walk, go to the bathroom, loss of sexual function and having to deal with consistent nerve pain. I recently became aware of the ZF-TRW Class action complaint and realize the parameters of the nonfunctioning airbag and seatbelt pre-tensor fit the parameters of my sons accident. The Honda Accord 2014-2015 vehicles are listed as having problematic ZF-TRW parts. My sons 2003 Honda Accords ACU was replaced in January/February of 2015. I suspect that the part was replaced with the same ACU used in the new 2014-2015 Honda Accords. Takata seat belt class action suit settlement does not preclude anyone from collecting compensation for injury from another source. My son should have walked away from this accident.

The affected vehicles have a passenger side frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture upon its deployment.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the passenger seat occupant or other occupants possibly causing serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are JU4, JU5, JU6, and JU7. Note: Vehicles that have already received a replacement passenger air bag inflator as part of the recall remedy for an earlier campaign such as 14V353 or 14V700 (Honda recall numbers S95, JH6, JH7, JH8, JH9, JJ0, JJ1, JJ2, JJ6, JM5 and JM6) are not included in this recall. However, this recall does supersede 13V132 and 14V349. - Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Owners may contact Acura customer service at 1-800-382-2238, select option 4. Note: Vehicles that have had their driver frontal air bag replaced previously as part of a recall remedy prior to September 12, 2014 need to have their air bag replaced under this recall as well. Vehicles that, on or after September 12, 2014, received a remedy for a prior driver frontal air bag inflator recall already received an inflator of a different design, and therefore are not included in this recall and do not require additional servicing. - Manufacturer: HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
- Components: STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS
- Summary: Honda is recalling certain model year 2007 and 2008 Acura TL and model year 2003-2007 Accord V6 vehicles. In May 2012, Honda filed a defect report to recall certain model year 2007 and 2008 Acura TL vehicles. In September 2012, Honda informed the agency that it was including an additional 573,147 vehicles including certain model year 2003 through 2007 Accord V6 vehicles. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 625,762. Prolonged under-hood and power steering fluid temperatures may cause the power steering hose to deteriorate prematurely, resulting in cracks and power steering fluid leakage.
- Consequence: If this occurs, power steering fluid can leak onto a hot catalytic converter, leading to smoke and possibly an under-hood fire.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install a new heat resistant power steering hose, free of charge. The original recall began in June 2012, and owners of those vehicles may obtain the free remedy. Sufficient parts are not yet available for owners of the vehicles covered by the September 2012 expansion, but are expected to be available in early 2013. Honda will notify owners of these vehicles beginning on October 26, 2012, and will notify these owners again when parts are available so those vehicles can be brought to dealers for applications of the free remedy. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009.

- Consequence: REMOVAL OF THE IGNITION KEY WHEN THE GEAR SELECTOR OF A VEHICLE WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS NOT BEEN SHIFTED TO THE PARK POSITION CAN ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE ORIGINAL INTERLOCK PIN AND LEVER WITHIN THE IGNITION SWITCH, AND REPLACE THEM WITH NEW, DESIGNED COMPONENTS. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 7, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

Hi there! I'm happy to share my experience with my Accord. I bought it new and have already driven 30k miles. The power is really impressive and on long trips, I've gotten 32mpg. I've owned several other car brands in the past, including Toyotas, Fords, Chevrolets, Pontiacs, and Nissans, but none of them compare to this car. I did have one minor problem with the interior, but the dealer fixed it right away. Overall, I would definitely recommend this car. However, I would caution against it for younger drivers who are just starting out, as it has a lot of power that could get them into trouble. Thanks for reading!

I bought this car for my wife in 2004 from Jim White Honda in Toledo, OH. We got a great deal on it as it was a 2003 model. The car has held up really well over the years. We did have an issue with the dashboard lights flickering at first, but the folks at Mike Pruit Honda in Akron, OH fixed it promptly under warranty. Since then, it's just been routine maintenance. Some of our family members have suggested that we get a new car and give them our Honda, but we're just not ready to part with it yet. The only issue we've had that hasn't been fixed is that one of the key remote locks drains the battery in a day or two. Since we've lived in different cities, we've had to get the key's battery changed at different dealerships.

Replaces 1998 Accord 2-dr coupe EX-V6. Additional features such as outside temperature display, telescoping steering wheel, collapsing outside mirrors, and additional airbags are a nice addition. In terms of performance, the 2003 model has lots more pick-up, hands down. While I personally prefer the body style of the 1998 model, the current style may grow on me. Overall, it is a nice and fun car.

I purchased this Honda used, and it has been an amazing car. It has been incredibly reliable and has run great. I didn't have to change the Timing Belt and Water Pump until it had 218,113 miles on it. Between 233,000 - 244,000 miles, I got the oil pump resealed, new radiator, alternator, and catalytic converter. And here I am today, at 312,900 miles and it is still going strong. I have to admit that when I purchased it used, I was worried about electrical problems: The CD player stopped working, and the passenger side front window did not work (even though we changed the window regulator twice). But despite these issues, this car has been a winner! You will love driving this car until the wheels fall off. I highly recommend this used car.

Your mom bought a 2003 Accord back in 2003 and gave it to you in 2012. It's amazing that it's still running great in 2019, with 299,000 miles on it! This car has been so reliable, with only one issue of having to change the Cadillac converter in order to pass smog in 2016. It's clear that you're really good at keeping up with the recommended maintenance, which helps the car continue to run smoothly. It's no wonder you'll never drive a car that's not an Accord!

Although Hondas are known for their reliability and great quality, my experience with this car has been far from that perception. Unfortunately, I have been experiencing the well-known problems of excess oil consumption and timing chain issues. It appears that the design of the engine and car makes it very difficult and costly to repair, requiring about 14 hours of labor according to our Honda Dealer. This car uses the most oil of any car I have ever owned (3L per 5K) and has cost me the most to maintain this year, at a total of $2000 so far! And all of this at only 80,000 miles (130K Km).

We have experienced multiple issues with our car, including the transmission failing twice, the radio/cd malfunctioning, and the A/C breaking down. Despite Honda acknowledging the recurring transmission issue, they have refused to provide any assistance. As a result, we are now facing another costly repair bill of $3500. However, we remain confident in our decision to own this car and will continue to address any issues that arise.

It's a shame that the transmission in my Honda Accord, like many others, has failed and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, this is not the only issue with this model year. The A/C condenser is positioned in a way that makes it vulnerable to damage from rocks on the road, and the electrical system can also malfunction, causing issues with the headlights and CD player. The biggest challenge with this Honda model is the transmission design, which can be costly to repair. However, overall it's a great car if you don't mind these potential issues.
Logan Turner 2024-03-23
I have experienced some issues with my car, including the replacement of the transmission at 40,000 miles, replacement of 2 out of 3 catalytic converter stages in less than 120,000 miles, and replacement of the oxygen sensor twice. Currently, the heat blend doors need to be replaced, which requires the removal of the entire dashboard. However, I am confident in my ability to handle these repairs and ensure the longevity of my vehicle.
