The Honda Accord (Japanese: ホンダ・アコード, Hepburn: Honda Akōdo, /əˈkɔːrd/), also known as the Honda Inspire (Japanese: ホンダ・インスパイア, Hepburn: Honda Insupaia) in Japan and China for certain generations, is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1976, best known for its four-door sedan variant, which has been one of the best-selling cars in the United States since 1989. The Accord nameplate has been applied to a variety of vehicles worldwide, including coupes, station wagons, hatchbacks and a Honda Crosstour crossover.

Since its initiation, Honda has offered several different car body styles and versions of the Accord, and often vehicles marketed under the Accord nameplate concurrently in different regions differ quite substantially. It debuted in 1976, as a compact hatchback, though this style only lasted through 1989, as the lineup was expanded to include a sedan, coupe, and wagon. By the sixth-generation Accord at the end of the 1990s, it evolved into an intermediate vehicle, with one basic platform but with different bodies and proportions to increase its competitiveness against its rivals in different international markets. For the eighth-generation Accord released for the North American market in 2007, Honda had again chosen to move the model further upscale and increase its size. This pushed the Accord sedan from the upper limit of what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines as a mid-size car to just above the lower limit of a full-size car, with the coupe still rated as a mid-size car. In 2012, the ninth-generation Accord sedan, with smaller exterior dimensions, was once again classified as a mid-size car at 119 cubic feet (3.4 m3), falling just shy of the "Large Car" classification. However, the tenth-generation Accord sedan, with similar exterior dimensions, returned to full-size car status with its combined interior space of 123 cubic feet (3.5 m3); the coupe was discontinued in 2017.

In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 38 times.

In 1989, the Accord was the first vehicle sold under an import brand to become the best-selling car in the United States. As of 2020, the Accord has sold more than 18 million units.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-28
  • VIN: 1HGCR2F84FA
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I am reporting a critical safety issue with my 2015 Honda Accord that poses a significant risk to my safety and that of others on the road. Although my VIN is not currently included in the active recall for the fuel pump affecting 2013-2017 Honda Accords, my vehicle is experiencing symptoms consistent with the issues described in the recall. Incident Details: On 9/28/2024, while driving, my vehicle suddenly lost power. It was limited to approximately 2,500 RPM and a speed of 40-45 MPH. This unexpected loss of power could have resulted in a severe accident, especially if I had been on a freeway or in heavy traffic where other drivers would not have anticipated my sudden deceleration. Diagnostic Findings: I took the vehicle to a mechanic, who scanned the fault code as DTC P0087 (Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low), confirming that the fuel pump is malfunctioning. The car can be made available for inspection upon request. Previous Condition: Prior to this incident, there were no warning lights or indications of a fuel system issue or any other issue. The sudden failure of the fuel pump has rendered my vehicle undriveable for over a week. Service Challenges: I reached out to the dealership for inspection and potential repairs; however, they quoted me $250 for the inspection and indicated there is a shortage of necessary parts, with a potential wait time of several months. This delay is unacceptable, given the safety risks involved. Conclusion: Given the correlation between my vehicle’s symptoms and the ongoing recall for fuel pump failures, I urge NHTSA to investigate this issue further. I believe my vehicle should be included in the recall, as it shares the same safety risks outlined in the active recall. This situation poses a significant risk not only to myself but also to other drivers on the road. Thank you for addressing this serious safety concern. I look forward to your prompt action.

  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
  • Summary: Getting error P2602 Low Voltage Coolant Pump. No visible sings of failure or damage to the pump or wiring. Tested power, ground, and signal and found them all to be ok. Vehicle has 133,000 miles. Engine is not running hot at all. Very cool to the touch, error P2602 causes car to go into limp mode and can not drive past 40 mph. Issue could be from Pump recalls from other honda models that used the same pump that is in the 2015 Honda Hybrids. Honda did not include 2015 Honda Hybrid in the recall when they should have, because its the same pump that was recalled in other hondas. Took the car to dealer in Auburn, WA, Hinshaw's Honda. Please get report from them. To get a second opinion took car to an independent Honda repair. Again same issue, stating pump replacement.

Its been fine so far for a week now. Happened twice already - same scenario. Drove it for an hour or so, then after stopping for 10 minutes its completely dead. Then will start again after several attempts -pressing the start button. Took it to Honda dealer. They cannot replicate the problem. Checked my starter, battery, alternator -did a multi-point inspection. Dealer said there are no errors. Cannot find any problem with my vehicle. They said to wait till it happens again and get it towed there dead. That's a terrible solution!

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-12
  • VIN: 1HGCR2F3XFA
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: My car has been reliable other than standard maintenance; oil changes, brake pad changes, etc. On Friday, April 12 2024, I was driving down the highway at 60-70 mph when the engine felt like it lost power for half a second and I saw the RPMs rev up and then drop down when this "skipping" occurred. It happened several times and made me feel very unsafe in a high speed situation if I suddenly lost all engine power. I drove straight to my mechanic - they did not experience the skipping at low speeds on a test drive, but they recommended a transmission fluid flush. On draining the fluid, they said it was clean but had more metallic debris than would be expected for a usual transmission service. I drove the car over the weekend and the same engine loss of power was evident, but happened infrequently. Then on Monday, April 15 2024, the engine was losing power on the highway again and on the dash, a "D3" code was blinking. I went back to the mechanic, at low speeds, where they determined the transmission needs to be replaced - upon speaking with their Honda contact, this is becoming a known problem where transmissions are needing replacement in the 60-90k mile range. My car is at about 78k miles, we did have the transmission serviced at 34k miles and then not again until Friday the 12th - however there were no warning signs/sounds or error codes until the power loss on the highway and finally, the error code on Monday. The car is currently at the repair garage awaiting the expensive, replacement transmission and is available for further inspection.

STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-09
  • VIN: 1HGCR3F82FA
  • Components: STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: Upon starting the car (54,000 miles) the ABS Light, Steering light, FCW, LDW, Brake light came on. After looking in the manual it was determine that the car was dangerous to drive. I did not experience anything indicating an issue with the car before this happened. I took it to Scott Clark Honda right away. The dealer preformed a diagnostic test which showed the Anti lock braking system Solenoid Value was Malfunctioning, the Electric Power Steering was experiencing a problem in the "VSA" System, the Forward Collision warning, and Lane Departure warning were showing a "VSA" Brake Actuator Malfunction. The car was underivable without getting this repaired. Because the VSA Solenoids are built inside the ABS Modulator they can not be replaces separately. The cost to repair this $2764 the part cannot be replace without a $150 Brake Fluid exchange. The initial Diagnostic fee was $30. The out of pocket expense to drive the vehicle was $2944 plus tax and shop fees. There are multiple complaints regarding the same issue. Please issue a recall. I would like Honda to reimburse me for the repair costs.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-04-07
  • VIN: 1HGCR6F52FA
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I purchased a 2015 Honda Accord Hybrid in 2015. In early April 2021, I noticed my driver’s door lock was not working. At first intermittently then not at all. I took it to my Honda dealership and paid to have it repaired. Shortly after, the other 3 actuators stopped working. This time I realized something was wrong so I spoke to my Honda dealership & they had Honda USA pay the $100 deductible on MY extended warranty. In Nov. 2023 I tried to get my grandchild out of the backseat car seat but the door would not open. I had to run around to the driver’s front door, unlock it, reach over and manually unlock the passenger’s front door and then I was able to open the back door to reach my grandchild. If this had been an emergency, even the few minutes that it took me to unlock the door could mean the difference between life and death. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSSUE! I spoke with my dealership and Honda USA & they agreed to pay for most of the(5t)actuator .I was told “this is the last thing they will do for me!” As if I asked for their door actuators to be faulty. I have owned Honda’s since 1989 and have NEVER had an issue like this. Yes, parts break but not multiple times the same part. It is obviously defective. Yesterday, I tried to get my grandchild out of her car seat again and again the door would not open. I have now replaced the actuators once and am on my second round of replacing them. I Google searched and saw Honda recalled actuators for certain make and models, is there a reason someone’s life is more valuable based on the make and model they drive? I see it took a class action lawsuit to get Honda to recall the actuators on other models and provide a 7 year extended warranty on the part. I’m hopeful it won’t again take a class action lawsuit but rather your investigation to realize there are still too many faulty door actuators still in circulation. I’ve put Honda on notice but would rather it not come down to a life and death situation. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-07
  • VIN: 1HGCR2F32FA
  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: While performing a normal U-Turn at a stop sign, I turned the wheel all the way to the left. When the wheel reached it's max rotation to the left, the Power Steering light on the dash flashed for a second, but at the same time the whole car turned off and then back on. I was stopped mid-turn until the car restarted. Not knowing what happened, I continued the turn slowly and when the wheel reached the max rotation the same light flicker and car restart happened. I tested once again while parked and confirmed that when I turn the wheel completely to the left, the car restarts. My safety was put at risk due to other cars at the stop sign not anticipating my car stopping in the middle of the intersection. No accidents or injuries occured. Based on limited research, it appears this is a defect that has been reported before for my make and model of car. I have not had my car inspected at this time. There were no previous indicators (warnings, messages, or symbols), prior to the failure.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-11-15
  • VIN: 1HGCR2F35FA
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: In November 2023 I began to experience difficulty starting the vehicle. The issue is the ignition switch has worn out. This issue is very random, I may start my car on average 10 times per day. It may not happen for 10 starts in a row. When it does happen, the vehicle may start after 3,5 7 tries or up to 20 including breaks in-between, different keys, etc. Key factors that have been eliminated are starter, battery and fuse. One important note I discovered today was that a mechanic on YouTube mentioned having to remove starter and add a plate to the one end, so this could be part of an electrical issue that may only be associated with another year Honda Accord specifically with a V6. This should be a SAFETY issue or at least diagnosed by Honda as it seems to be very prevalent within the brand and may occur in year #2 or #8. Having this random inoperable event happen when consumer is: 1. In a frigid snow storm rural part of America 2. In an emergency situation like medical, or safety late at night, with possible criminal entity or environment is not safe.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-11-10
  • VIN: 1HGCR3F8XFA
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Initially it started as ignition starter issues, now there seems to be what may be concluded as transmission issues. After doing research i see Hondas history of bad transmissions. Extremely low acceleration causes dangerous lane switching or merging with traffic, also the fear of it stalling and no longer working as I drive.

Negative 2015 Honda Accord car reviews

  1. Parker Grady 2024-10-04

Update 02/04/2020: The car is still running well. Although Honda is known for having uncomfortable seats and seems to take pride in it, I still enjoy sitting on a concrete bench. As the owner of 07/13&15 EXL leather models, I can say that they are great cars, except for one major issue - the seats. It's disappointing that Honda consistently fails to get such a basic feature right. It doesn't matter if the seats last for two thousand years if you can't sit in them for even five miles without experiencing backache. It's surprising that despite thousands of complaints online every year, they continue to make the same mistake year after year...

  2. Melany Weimann 2024-09-10

I noticed that the headlights on low beam sharply cutoff the top of the light beam, which reduces visibility. This can be especially bad when going downhill and then the road rises quickly, making it difficult to see the roadway ahead. In comparison to my 1998 Honda Accord, the 2015 Accord ride is jarring, stiff and transmits every small bump to the passengers. It feels like riding in a lumber wagon. Additionally, the heater controls and radio controls are needlessly complicated, which can be distracting and a safety hazard. I believe that knobs are easier to use and do not require that you take your eyes off the road to use them. The radio also has too many buttons, where one multi-function knob would do. I miss the multi-level center console and soft-touch cover over the cup holders that my 1998 Accord had, which made holding small items convenient and gave a more tidy appearance. I also noticed that the courtesy/safety lights on all four doors that were on the 1998 Accord were not on this higher priced version, even though there are cutouts on the doors where they were intended to be placed. Road noise is still a problem for Honda to solve. I once owned a 1986 Toyota Cambry, and it was way more quiet than this 2015, or even the 1998. Lastly, I think Honda could do better with the car colors they offer. Limited interior color choices and the sad attempt to suggest woodgrain accents on the dash, with only dull black plastic, does not carry the image of even pretend luxury, for cars that can cost up $38,000+. Overall, I am not sure if I would buy another Accord. Update 30 July 2017.I still agree with what I said in my earlier statement. I have kept the car because buying and selling cars can be quite expensive. Fortunately, I am retired and do not have to drive every day, so I can tolerate the rough ride. Unfortunately, the buttons for the controls are not user-friendly. Every time I change the fan speed, I get frustrated. Early news releases for the 2018 model indicate that they may have gone back to knob controls for some functions, but we will have to wait and see. However, if the ride quality has not improved, I would not recommend buying the car, especially if safety is a concern, such as distractions while driving.

Many people choose to buy Hondas and Toyotas because of their reliability, and I was no exception when I purchased two Civics in 1991 and 2000. However, I recently experienced some engine trouble with my 2015 Accord while my wife was driving in local traffic. Although the repairs were done by the dealer, I have found the ride comfort to be quite bothersome and even dangerous. Specifically, the rear suspension is too stiff without any load and too springy with three passengers. This means that any sharp bumps on the road are transmitted uncomfortably to the back of the car. While the comfort issue disappears when the car is fully loaded with passengers, I did experience a scary moment when driving at high speed on a toll road (241) at around 75mph. The car became almost airborne when it drove over a gentle bump, but thankfully it maintained course. Overall, I believe that the Accord has some room for improvement in terms of ride comfort, but I still appreciate its reliability.

  4. Norval Wolf 2024-05-28

During my test drive, I noticed a few issues with the car that made me feel disappointed. However, after driving it for more than an hour, I found that the head restraint position and seat curves were not suitable for someone of my height. Additionally, I experienced excessive vibration through the steering wheel when the car was in neutral. The navigation system was also difficult to use, and finding local stores without the exact address was almost impossible. Lastly, the road and exterior noise was quite loud, especially at highway speeds. I measured the sound levels and found that they were higher than most other cars I tested. Despite these issues, I am confident that these can be addressed and resolved to improve the overall driving experience.

  5. Giuseppe Anderson 2024-05-24

I recently purchased a car a few months ago and have been driving it locally, as well as taking a trip from NY to CT. Unfortunately, I have been experiencing discomfort in my lower back and right leg due to my sciatic nerve since I got the car. The seats are not very comfortable and I am disappointed with my purchase. I am considering purchasing a seat cushion and going to physical therapy to alleviate the pain. While I have had a negative experience with the comfort of the car, I still believe that Honda makes great products. However, I would caution anyone looking for a comfortable car to do their research before purchasing. It may be helpful to look up reviews and complaints about the seats before making a decision. I hope that Honda will address this issue in the future to prevent other customers from experiencing the same discomfort.

Positive 2015 Honda Accord car reviews

  1. Rodrick Lynch 2024-10-07

I bought this car five months ago and I absolutely love it! It's my first Honda after having driven five GM cars and I have to say, I'm impressed. So far, I've put 10,000 miles on the car and it's been a smooth ride. I average 35-39 MPG and can go an average of 500 miles on each tank of gas. On the interstate, I've even hit up to 47 MPG! The car is so quiet and I haven't had any problems with it. I hope to have it for a long time to come.

  2. Reid Huel 2024-09-24

The road noise is quite noticeable and there seems to be an air leak on the driver's side window of my brand new car. Despite my numerous complaints, the dealership (Fremont Honda, CA) initially claimed that it was normal for 2015 cars. However, I insisted that they measure the noise and they eventually applied an EPT sealer, which has improved the situation. Although there is still a slight hissing noise in the driver's side front window, it is now possible to take phone calls in the car.

  3. Louisa Hermann 2024-08-19

The car is great! I'm so glad we decided to go with it, especially since we're a Toyota/Lexus family. We're very happy with our purchase. Also, I wanted to mention that the Edmunds price promise was the best deal I found.

  4. Ewald Leannon 2024-08-19

I recently upgraded from my 1997 Accord LX to a 2015 Accord LX and I must say, the new car has exceeded my expectations in terms of technology and safety features. As someone who has a short commute to work, I didn't need all the options that come with the higher priced models, but the option list on this car was just about right for my needs. The only thing I would have liked to add as an option would be the fog lights to improve visibility. I'm really impressed with the smoothness of the CVT and the fact that I'm averaging about 31-32 mpg in mostly around town driving. The ride is smoother and more compliant than my old model, and the steering has a much better feel, as do the brakes. The cabin is spacious and, while not silent, is reasonably quiet. I would prefer less road noise, but I also understand that I didn't pay for a luxury car. If the engine is anywhere near as reliable as my old Accord, I look forward to driving this car for many years to come. I was able to get a great deal on the car in August using the Edmunds coupon and Honda down payment assistance incentive, so I feel like I got a really good value for my money. It's important to note that my 5-star rating takes into consideration the value for the price paid. I'm not comparing the comfort, features, handling, etc. to a luxury sports sedan. It's been almost a year now and I haven't had a single problem with the car. There have been some minor idiosyncrasies with the phone/audio interface, but I'm sure it's just user error. It's been 2.5 years now and I still stand by my initial impressions - this car is a great value and I haven't had any problems with it.

  5. Jessy Carter 2024-08-09

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my new car. I've only had it for about a week, but I already love it! The Sport model is simple, good-looking, and I got it for a great price. When I was deciding between the Altima and my Accord, I ultimately chose the Accord because it feels more modern and is a better value. While the Altima might be just a tad bigger on the inside, the Accord has better gas mileage. Speaking of which, I'm averaging 27.5mpg driving anywhere from 65-80 on the highway and a lot of stop and go traffic in the city. The seats are also really comfy, and I think the exterior styling of the Sport compared to the rest of the lineup is hands down a winner. Thanks for listening to my thoughts!
