The Honda Accord (Japanese: ホンダ・アコード, Hepburn: Honda Akōdo, /əˈkɔːrd/), also known as the Honda Inspire (Japanese: ホンダ・インスパイア, Hepburn: Honda Insupaia) in Japan and China for certain generations, is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1976, best known for its four-door sedan variant, which has been one of the best-selling cars in the United States since 1989. The Accord nameplate has been applied to a variety of vehicles worldwide, including coupes, station wagons, hatchbacks and a Honda Crosstour crossover.

Since its initiation, Honda has offered several different car body styles and versions of the Accord, and often vehicles marketed under the Accord nameplate concurrently in different regions differ quite substantially. It debuted in 1976, as a compact hatchback, though this style only lasted through 1989, as the lineup was expanded to include a sedan, coupe, and wagon. By the sixth-generation Accord at the end of the 1990s, it evolved into an intermediate vehicle, with one basic platform but with different bodies and proportions to increase its competitiveness against its rivals in different international markets. For the eighth-generation Accord released for the North American market in 2007, Honda had again chosen to move the model further upscale and increase its size. This pushed the Accord sedan from the upper limit of what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines as a mid-size car to just above the lower limit of a full-size car, with the coupe still rated as a mid-size car. In 2012, the ninth-generation Accord sedan, with smaller exterior dimensions, was once again classified as a mid-size car at 119 cubic feet (3.4 m3), falling just shy of the "Large Car" classification. However, the tenth-generation Accord sedan, with similar exterior dimensions, returned to full-size car status with its combined interior space of 123 cubic feet (3.5 m3); the coupe was discontinued in 2017.

In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 38 times.

In 1989, the Accord was the first vehicle sold under an import brand to become the best-selling car in the United States. As of 2020, the Accord has sold more than 18 million units.

ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-19
  • VIN: 1HGCV1F39KA
  • Components: ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: I've had head gasket failure twice and now turbo failure. I have documentation from John Eagle Honda to support as well as several others who are willing to do a Class Action Lawsuit in regards to the 10th generation Honda Accord 1.5 T and some of the other trims. I have a list of other owners like myself who have paid out of pocket constantly to get our vehicles fixed. My last straw for reaching out is when it stalled on me while on the interstate for the second time and almost getting in a horrible accident. Something has to be done, because at this point Honda has been called several times and acts if no one is reporting it when indeed they are. I have tons of documentation and proof to support my safety issue. I first paid for the head gasket in 2023, then again in 2024, now I'm being told the Turbo needs to be replaced of which it is in the shop currently and I was quoted 1700$. Something has to be done because of this issue I have spend a lot of money and none of my safety features worked during this time, the head gasket issue shuts down everything and can cause serious injury.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-12
  • VIN: 1HGCV1F19KA
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I took my car to be repaired because it was stalling and misfiring while accelerating, and 11 indicator lights were one (check engine, vehicle stability system warning, brake system warning, adaptive cruise control system). Also, my car smelled like radiator fluid was leaking from somewhere. The local Honda dealer’s service department could not get me an diagnostic appointment for more than 30 day, so I took it to a nearby mechanic shop that I had used before. First, they thought it needed a tune up, so that was done, the indicator lights were reset, and I was in my way. After returning 2 days later (because they weren’t open on Sunday), the mechanic notified me that my fuel injector needed to be replaced. The mechanic contacted the local Honda dealer for parts, and the parts/service member told him that part number for my specific make and model was updated, and he gave the mechanic an updated part number. Also, the parts dealers said that the part was on back order nationally. This was in February of 2024. In August of this year, I was able to get an diagnostic appointment at a dealer in another city, and they provided an update. They reported that there was an issue with the fuel system that needed further diagnosis, and that it would cost me an additional near $400 to do and that they might have to keep my car overnight to complete the diagnostic. Since the start of this issue, I still sometimes experience misfiring and jerking when I try to accelerate.

Negative 2019 Honda Accord car reviews

  1. Eliseo Rippin 2024-11-23

The Honda Touring was definitely louder than the Camry and Mazda 6, but it still drives like a dream. The interior does utilize a lot of hard plastic, which may not be the most upscale, but it still gets the job done. Unfortunately, the Honda dealer was quite aggressive in trying to up-sell everything under the moon, which made for a less than positive experience at the dealership.

The driver seat is quite uncomfortable due to the hard and stiff leather material. I have been experiencing backaches since the purchase, but I have found some relief by using two padded seat covers. However, the rest of the car is quite nice and the turbo is very responsive. If you can handle the uncomfortable seat, then this car might be a good fit for you. I will be selling it soon, even though I've only had it for 2 1/2 months.

I understand your frustration with your 2019 Honda Accord. It's disappointing to experience issues with a car that you've always trusted for its reliability and fuel efficiency. It's especially frustrating to have to replace the battery and rear brakes so soon after purchasing the car. I hope that the repairs have been completed to your satisfaction and that you can continue to enjoy your Accord. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

I recently leased a 2019 Honda Accord and wanted to share my experience with those considering this sedan. Unfortunately, I found the driver's seat to be very uncomfortable. The seat cushion and back lumbar support were inadequate, and the controls for adjusting them were not helpful. As someone with lumbar arthritis, this was a significant issue for me. Additionally, the sound system did not meet my expectations despite its upgraded claims. However, I want to clarify that I am not a mechanic and cannot comment on the mechanical parts of the car. I ultimately decided to switch to a 2019 Nissan Altima Platinum, which I am much happier with. The seats are much more comfortable, the sound system is better, and the ride is great. I highly recommend giving it your consideration.

For someone who has driven many cars, I can say that I don't feel comfortable driving this car over 60mph. I almost lost control on the freeway, which was quite scary. However, I must say that it feels great when driving in the city at lower speeds. I have decided to take this vehicle to get checked by Honda, just to be on the safe side. Thank you for your understanding.

This vehicle sits quite low, so if you have any back or orthopedic issues, it may be a bit of a challenge getting in and out of it.

Congratulations on your new American-made car! It sounds like a fantastic upgrade from your 2013 Chevy Malibu. Although the cost was higher, it seems like you got your money's worth. The driver aides, such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assistance, are impressively designed. Even as someone who is skeptical of technology, you find them to be wonderful. The ride is awesome, despite the low sitting position, and the wider 19” tires may explain the noticeable road noise. It's great to hear that the gas mileage is much better than your previous car. The exterior design is also very pleasant to look at. It's clear that this car is a car lover's dream - the mid-size sedan is definitely not dead!

  3. Miles Auer 2024-10-20

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share some of my observations about my new car. I've noticed that the engine can be a little coarse sounding, but it's not too bothersome. When I bought the car, the dealer filled it up with gas and I was able to drive around town for 300 miles before the 'low fuel' light came on. I filled it up and it only took 11.8 gallons, so I still had 3 gallons left in the tank. I'm getting 25.25 MPG, which is not bad, but my V6 Lexus is getting 28 MPG. Also, I've noticed that the street tire noise is more noticeable on cement roads, but it's better on asphalt. These are just my personal observations, but overall, I'm really happy with this car. I've owned many Honda motorcycles before, but this is my first Honda car. I think it all comes down to what you're used to driving when comparing cars. Thanks for listening!

  4. Jermain Jerde 2024-10-19

I must admit, the exterior design has really grown on me. I've owned a '94, '06, '12, and '16 Accord, both inline 4s and V6s, but this one is a keeper. I'm already debating whether to keep it after the lease expires. The improvements in all aspects - interior, exterior, performance, and handling - are amazing, especially considering the cost is almost the same as the last one. I had to jump to the Touring model because I wanted all the extra technology, and getting the sport damping system is just icing on the cake. This one will be hard to surpass, even by Honda/Acura standards. My only complaint is that the HUD squeaks, but the dealer promised to take care of it and even offered a car loaner. Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the 2019 Accord 2.0T that I purchased back in January. Unfortunately, I've been having some issues with it. At random times, my engine misfires and the rpm accelerates at a stop, which has been a bit concerning. I've taken it to multiple dealerships, but they haven't been able to find the problem yet. I just wanted to remind everyone to test drive the actual vehicle they're going to purchase, rather than just having the dealership hand them a car. Thank you so much, Honda!
