2021 Honda Accord problems
The Honda Accord (Japanese: ホンダ・アコード, Hepburn: Honda Akōdo, /əˈkɔːrd/), also known as the Honda Inspire (Japanese: ホンダ・インスパイア, Hepburn: Honda Insupaia) in Japan and China for certain generations, is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1976, best known for its four-door sedan variant, which has been one of the best-selling cars in the United States since 1989. The Accord nameplate has been applied to a variety of vehicles worldwide, including coupes, station wagons, hatchbacks and a Honda Crosstour crossover.
Since its initiation, Honda has offered several different car body styles and versions of the Accord, and often vehicles marketed under the Accord nameplate concurrently in different regions differ quite substantially. It debuted in 1976, as a compact hatchback, though this style only lasted through 1989, as the lineup was expanded to include a sedan, coupe, and wagon. By the sixth-generation Accord at the end of the 1990s, it evolved into an intermediate vehicle, with one basic platform but with different bodies and proportions to increase its competitiveness against its rivals in different international markets. For the eighth-generation Accord released for the North American market in 2007, Honda had again chosen to move the model further upscale and increase its size. This pushed the Accord sedan from the upper limit of what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines as a mid-size car to just above the lower limit of a full-size car, with the coupe still rated as a mid-size car. In 2012, the ninth-generation Accord sedan, with smaller exterior dimensions, was once again classified as a mid-size car at 119 cubic feet (3.4 m3), falling just shy of the "Large Car" classification. However, the tenth-generation Accord sedan, with similar exterior dimensions, returned to full-size car status with its combined interior space of 123 cubic feet (3.5 m3); the coupe was discontinued in 2017.
In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 38 times.
In 1989, the Accord was the first vehicle sold under an import brand to become the best-selling car in the United States. As of 2020, the Accord has sold more than 18 million units.

Common 2021 Honda Accord problems
The 2021 Honda Accord is a popular midsize sedan known for its reliability, fuel efficiency, and performance. However, like any other vehicle, it is not immune to problems, and some common issues have been reported by owners. Here are the top four common problems with the Honda Accord 2021 based on complaints from owners:
- Vibration When Braking: Some Accord owners have reported a vibration or shaking sensation when braking, which is typically caused by warped front brake rotors. The problem can be fixed by machining the rotors or replacing them if they are too thin. Brake pad and rotor replacement can cost up to $900, including parts and labor.
- Power Door Lock Failure: The power door locks in some Accords might activate intermittently on their own or not function properly with the remote door lock control. Each door has an actuator, and if one is faulty, the entire system can be affected. It costs about $200 to have a door lock actuator replaced.
- Dashboard Display Dark: Some Accord owners have reported that the dashboard display, including the radio and climate control, goes dark, especially in vehicles with more than 109,000 miles. This problem is caused by a faulty circuit board, which should be replaced. The total cost to repair, including parts, can be around $200 to $300.
In addition to these common problems, some 2021 Honda Accord owners have reported battery drain, wind noise in the cabin, and paint fade issues on the hood. However, these problems are relatively minor compared to other midsize sedans, leading to lower repair costs as the Accord ages.
Regular maintenance, including checking the transmission fluid level, changing the fluid and filter, and using the correct transmission fluid, can help prevent transmission system problems in Honda Accords. When facing transmission system problems, it is essential to troubleshoot and resolve the issue promptly or seek professional help at a Honda dealer.

A year ago rha mase sense, a year later knowing that the dealer is sitting on the parts and aren’t allowed to install them in unacceptable. There is a chronic problem in the US with car owners not getting recalls repaired. I’m trying but being to wait up to 2 more years. This is unacceptable. This recall has devalued my vehicle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-10
- VIN: 1HGCV2F3XMA
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: The infotainment system randomly presses all over the screen all the time. This causes tony of issues such as turning on the radio, changing navigation, and making beeping noises constantly. Honda has replaced the infotainment system twice in my vehicle and it has fixed absolutely nothing. This is a major safety issue because of how distracting it is when driving. The incessant beeping noises (it beeps every time the touch screen is “pressed”) makes it so that I don’t know whether the car is beeping for safety issues (lane assist etc) or not. The radio being turned on at random is extremely startling and has caused me many near accidents. The navigation turning off as I am navigating through traffic has caused much stress and confusion which can lead to an accident. This is a major issue that needs correction ASAP.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

- Summary: As I parked my vehicle all of the dashboard lights turned on simultaneously. My safety is at risk because I can not identify or predict the safety of my vehicle. I have not visited my dealer at this point. I have had a check engine light that would come on and would go away. I’d be told by mechanics that it is a computer issue. My last encounter with this was approximately 2-3 months ago.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-02
- VIN: 1HGCV1F59MA

- Summary: Driving on Highway at approximately 65 Miles Per Hour using the Adaptive Cruise Control. Car in front of us took a right hand exit. My 2021 Honda Accord activated the Braking System and applied the brakes, so I stepped on the accelerator thinking it would override the braking system. It had no effect. There were cars behind me at the time and luckily nobody was injured. I looked this up on the internet and found that it is a reported issue. That is why I am contacting you. Very concerned about the safety of my family.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-30
- VIN: 1HGCV2F9XMA
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: My honda Accord’s automatic braking system suddenly engaged this morning for no reason. The driver of the car following me had to slam on his breaks to avoid rear-ending me. If the other driver had not stopped, we would both have been injured. Honda’s emergency braking system is dangerous. There should be a way to disable it permanently.
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-15
- VIN: 1HGCV1F3XMA
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I have only had this car 4 months, if that long. I have put very few miles on it. Driving home from work, at most 35 mph, there was a loud thud from what seemed the floorboard followed by a sharp slam of the brakes that i could not control. Many of the instrument warning lights came on. some flashed, some stayed on. I was able to pull onto the shoulder of the road to call for help. However, upon trying to put the car into gear again, it would not move. This is very very disappointing as it was purchased at not only an expensive price, but bought with a promise of your Honda dealership. It is noteworthy that i had just returned home from a trip a day or two prior to this happening. Had this happened unexpectantly in six lanes of traffic, it would have certainly caused an accident or worse. After doing some research, I see there were many defects specific to the make and model of this car. I was never informed of any of them. Please see CVT control information published for reference. I have spoken with the dealership multiple times and I have been unable to come to any resolution concerning this new vehicle, that is unable to be driven. Scary and Dangerous!
SEAT BELTS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-07-21
- VIN: 1HGCV2F35MA
- Components: SEAT BELTS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Rear seat belt will not click and lock in. With the forward collision warning there was times I was driving on the freeway where there is no vehicle in front of me and Hard brake on me and shows forward collision warning. This happened like 3 or 4 times
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-08
- VIN: 1HGCV1F53MA
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I was driving 35mph and there was nothing in front of me when my car stopped. It would not move forward or accelerate despite pushing on the gas pedal. There was no forward motion or propelled motion. It took several seconds for my car to go again. The car was towed and serviced at the dealership. They said the front sensors had misfired. If a car would have been behind me or if I had been on the highway, this would have been a serious accident. The engine light never came on. A series of 5 warning lights related to the assisted driving came on but went away.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-17
- VIN: 1HGCV1F16MA
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I was driving 40 mph and slowed down gradually pressing my brake due to a car making a right turn. As I'm slowing down to probably 15mph, the brakes wording shows on the odometer display. i had plenty of room between the turning right car but suddenly the car automatically stops while I'm in the lane. I could of got hit if there was a car behind me. This is the 1st time it has happen. I've seen the brake wording show up a few times while driving but this is the 1st time the car stopped on it's own. Currently researching on how to turn off the brake assist for the car. (This is a safety issue for other Accord owners)(purchased car DEC 2023)
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-12
- VIN: 1HGCV1F49MA
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I was driving down the highway at approximately 70 mph and a vehicle ahead, probably 8-10 car lengths lightly applied their brakes slowing down to my estimate of 60 mph. The forward collision activated and slammed my brakes causing a pickup behind me to slam on their brakes and swerve onto the shoulder to avoid a collision. This is not the first time this has happened, but the previous time the braking wasn't as severe.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-28
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1HGCV1F47MA
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I was traveling on interstate 10 going around 50mph with a safe distance from the traffic in front of me. The car in front of me did break but then sped off immediately. My car's automatic emergency breaking system engaged very aggressively and unnecessarily (a front end impact was not imminent if my car had not braked). I tried to accelerate but I had no control over it. The sudden breaking caused my car to slow so rapidly that the freightliner behind me did not have time to react, causing him to rear end my car. The car was totaled as a result. I have front and rear dash camera footage showing all of this. ***I marked a document as the police report to proceed but I do not have a copy of the police report. This is not provided unless ordered***
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-15
- VIN: 1HGCV2F90MA
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: I am writing to complain about Honda's handling of another safety related recall. I was told months ago that repairs would start in April 2024 for the defect passenger seat airbag sensor. Today I received a new notice claiming that they will not have parts for this recall for nearly 12 more months. This is the second time I have been unable to replace a safety part for my 2021 Honda Accord. There is no excuse for a huge multination company like Honda to refuse to expedite the manufacturing and installations of these safety related parts. Both individuals and dealers are stuck with vehicles that they cannot sell or trade due to this open recall. Please force Honda to expedite this issue.
LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-07-12
- VIN: 1HGCV2F36MA
- Components: LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: --Automatic braking: When I first purchased car in 2021, the automatic emergency braking engaged abruptly 3 times within the first 3000 miles of driving the car. I was unable to get a resolution through dealer, local Honda service centers or Honda corp. I turn off the feature each time I start my car, but I'm told by Honda service that there is no way to disable feature to prevent safety hazard. --Lane Keeping Assistance: Since purchasing car in 2021, my lane keeping assistance does not work properly and pretty often will actually try to pull the car out of lane both on local roads and more often on the interstate. I have the feature disabled for safety.

This is my third Honda and it doesn't disappoint. It has a smooth and comfortable ride that I really enjoy. I also appreciate the new upgrades, such as the hands-free phone connections and home screen.
-
The 2021 Accord EXL is an exquisite vehicle and the best value in its class.
-
Car ride is so smooth yet handles like a sports car. I previously had a 2009 accord before purchasing this one and spent months researching and test driving other makes for a change but at the end of the day it all came back to the accord. If I had to be picky I would say I hear the tire noise but that is a small minutia compared to all the positives! I love my accord! And the sport mode puts a smile on my face
-
This car is fantastic! 5 stars!
-
There's quite a big difference in power between 1.5 T and 2.5 T.

Hello, could someone please help me understand why some features were removed from the 2017+ models and not added to the 2021 version? I've noticed that my car no longer has a trunk button, remote start, side camera, or keyless entry. It's disappointing to feel like the car is a step back in terms of features. I hope Honda can address these concerns and improve the car's functionality. Thank you.
Stephen Olson 2024-11-14
The car had a lot of road noise, so I drove the CRV which was much better but just not as stylish.
Earnest Emmerich 2024-08-28
Sorry to hear about the issues you've been experiencing with your vehicle. It sounds like you've had a rough ride so far, with fuel mileage not meeting your expectations and some technical difficulties with the wireless charger and phone connectivity. Additionally, it's disappointing to hear about the paint peeling off the front bumper with only 800 miles on the clock. We understand how frustrating this must be for you and we would like to help resolve these issues as soon as possible. Please let us know how we can assist you further.
Jameson Quigley 2024-08-16
I purchased my car brand new and have enjoyed its spacious leg room, attractive color, stylish rims, and sleek body design. Although I have experienced some issues, such as a bad right side motor mount causing a vibration and a clicking noise upon starting the car, I am confident in the manufacturer's warranty and will have it addressed promptly. While the ride may not be perfectly smooth and the seats sit a bit low, I appreciate the overall quality of the car. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase and do not regret choosing this car over a Toyota Camry.

The engineers seem to have added every electronic feature they could think of to my 2021 Honda Accord EXL. While some of these features may make it more difficult to make a selection, there are many symbols that are not immediately obvious. The manual could be improved, as finding and selecting certain features can be time-consuming and confusing, even though there may be multiple ways to accomplish the same task. Despite these challenges, the Accord does get good mileage. As someone with multiple college degrees in engineering and a history of owning many Accords, I hope that future models will be more user-friendly.
