2017 Honda Accord problems

The Honda Accord (Japanese: ホンダ・アコード, Hepburn: Honda Akōdo, /əˈkɔːrd/), also known as the Honda Inspire (Japanese: ホンダ・インスパイア, Hepburn: Honda Insupaia) in Japan and China for certain generations, is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1976, best known for its four-door sedan variant, which has been one of the best-selling cars in the United States since 1989. The Accord nameplate has been applied to a variety of vehicles worldwide, including coupes, station wagons, hatchbacks and a Honda Crosstour crossover.
Since its initiation, Honda has offered several different car body styles and versions of the Accord, and often vehicles marketed under the Accord nameplate concurrently in different regions differ quite substantially. It debuted in 1976, as a compact hatchback, though this style only lasted through 1989, as the lineup was expanded to include a sedan, coupe, and wagon. By the sixth-generation Accord at the end of the 1990s, it evolved into an intermediate vehicle, with one basic platform but with different bodies and proportions to increase its competitiveness against its rivals in different international markets. For the eighth-generation Accord released for the North American market in 2007, Honda had again chosen to move the model further upscale and increase its size. This pushed the Accord sedan from the upper limit of what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines as a mid-size car to just above the lower limit of a full-size car, with the coupe still rated as a mid-size car. In 2012, the ninth-generation Accord sedan, with smaller exterior dimensions, was once again classified as a mid-size car at 119 cubic feet (3.4 m3), falling just shy of the "Large Car" classification. However, the tenth-generation Accord sedan, with similar exterior dimensions, returned to full-size car status with its combined interior space of 123 cubic feet (3.5 m3); the coupe was discontinued in 2017.
In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 38 times.
In 1989, the Accord was the first vehicle sold under an import brand to become the best-selling car in the United States. As of 2020, the Accord has sold more than 18 million units.

After powering on and driving again the static noise returns within 5 minutes. This is very distracting. This has been happening intermittently for over a month. The audio fuse can be removed to stop the noise from occurring. Unfortunately, this fuse also disables the backup camera and side camera, not an ideal fix. FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-25
- VIN: 1HGCR2F93HA
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: On Sept 25, 2024, my car completely turned off as I was pulling out from a side road to cross a 4 lane road. Fortunately, it was mid-morning and no cars were coming. I was able to coast to the far ride lane and put hazard lights on. A light came on--a gas can with something dripping from it and possibly some other lights. It was extremely scary and happened with no warning whatsoever. It could have caused a fatal accident in another situation. I had never seen this light come on before nor had any problems with the car stalling. GREENSBORO HONDA inspected the car and determined that it was the low pressure fuel pump and that most likely the "O" ring had gotten pinched. They have seen this before in Hondas. It's a common problem and my research revealed many Hondas have been recalled for this very problem, but not my particular car. They determined that the fuel pump had to be replaced at a cost to me of $1,200. I made a claim with American Honda and it was denied because there had not been a recall and because the car was no longer under warranty.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-15
- VIN: 1HGCT1B3XHA
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: I was driving straight on the freeway maintaining the speed limit when the driver side side curtain airbag and driver side seat airbag spontaneously deployed. Due to the loud noise and not expecting this to happen I was in complete shock but was able to safely move the car off the freeway with very obstructed vision due to the airbag being deployed. I lost temporary hearing in my left ear due to the loud explosive sound as well as it hitting me in the head. If it had been rush hour traffic this could have easily resulted in an accident killing myself as well as others on the road. The car was taken to a Honda dealership where it was inspected and a diagnostic test was done. There was no indication that the airbag should have deployed per the diagnostic test which concluded that no collision was suspected or detected thus deeming it as a result of a faulty sensor. There were no warning indicator lights at anytime that appeared prior to the incident. National Honda was notified by the dealership and they stated this was not their financial responsibility to repair but ours. I too contacted Honda services and field a claim and was told that we would be responsible for the cost of the repairs to fix the sensor and replace the airbag.

- VIN: 1HGCR2F1XHA
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The vehicle turn off and on while driving on the highway, is like the engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. I'm aware there's no recall on my vehicle, however, it's a known issue that Honda had voluntarily recall approximately 2.6 million 2017-2020 Honda vehicles in the United States to replace their fuel pumps, for free due to a similar issue. I have experience this issue of the vehicle shutting down then on while driving in the last couple of weeks and it's increasing each day. The accord was bought for my son to use, if he encounter an accident due to this fuel pump issue and he lose his life, someone would have to be held accountable.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-12
- VIN: 1HGCR2F64HA
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: At first I thought this was an electrical problem but now it looks like it is the fuel pump. There is a struggle to turn the vehicle on. There are time that I step on the accelerator and it stalls. There are times while driving that it seems that the vehicle is just going to turn off. I am scared that it might turn off while I’m driving. This can cause me to have an accident. I know there has been a recall to 2018-2020 Honda Accord vehicle but I think there are plenty of 2017 models that are going through the same situation.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-23
- VIN: JHMCR6F50HC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The car emits a very loud noise through the speakers. This is NOT a radio issue. The noise cannot be stopped by turning off the radio. The noise is extremely loud, so loud you cannot hear police or fire sirens, anyone honking or even someone trying to get your attention from outside the vehicle. This is a known problem to Honda, but the company considers it a problem with the stereo system and not a danger. Let me tell you, it IS a danger. Imagine not being able to hear Emergency Alerts while driving toward a tornado or powerful storm. Or not being able to hear a police or ambulance siren due to the noise coming through the speakers. Again, the stereo system is off, there is no phone connected to the system but the loud static persists until you turn the car off. It then comes back after a minute or two of driving. Honda North American requested I have a diagnostic done at the dealership to confirm the issue with the Head Unit. That costs 200 dollars, but I did it, even though there are multiple complaints online and with the company on this same issue. The dealer replicated the issue. There are no warnings about the problem until the sound overwhelms the driver. It takes about a minute to begin and WILL NOT STOP. I can provide video upon request.

I've been driving my basic Accord LX for a month now and I must say, it's a great car for the price. The quality, steering, comfort, brakes, climate controls, and even the CVT are all great. The only issue I have is with the mileage. I mainly drive around the city at low speeds and I'm averaging 18mpg. According to other owners, the CVT (in reg or econ modes) at low speeds (under 30mph) does not get the advertised 26mpg. However, I found a solution by putting it in S gear now below 30mph. Once I got the speed up and out on the highway, the mpg is right where it should be in re or econ modes. Overall, I'm really happy with the car!
-
The design of the car is very appealing and slick, which is sure to turn heads. The interior looks and feels rich, and the instruments are well-designed with balanced brightness at night. The headlights provide sufficient brightness, and the taillights look gorgeous at night. The leather seats are comfortable and easy to adjust, with power mode and seat warmers on both sides for the driver and passenger. The stereo volume is sufficient, and the controls on the steering wheel make it effortless to control, adjust, or change the channel. The leather-wrapped steering wheel feels rich and smooth to the touch. The cabin is roomy both in the front and back, and the trunk provides sufficient space. The ride is average, but the 'S' mode makes the car glue to the road, increasing engine response which translates to faster acceleration. There is a small wind noise at the center of the driver's side window at 65+ mph. The engine is super quiet at idle and roars at high rpm. The transmission shifting is super smooth and unnoticeable. The car has great gas mileage, making it the best buy in my book.
-
The vehicle offers great value for what you get. It looks good and is comfortable, providing a smooth ride. While it may not have an engine to rev, it still offers a pleasant driving experience. The Sport SE model may be limited in terms of tech, but it does have some basics such as Bluetooth and a backup camera. Additionally, Pandora compatibility is great. The only downside is the phone app, which has poor voice call capabilities. However, the interior look and feel of the vehicle gives a luxurious impression. Overall, if you're looking for a comfortable sedan with good gas mileage, roomy interior, and a reputation for reliability, this is definitely worth considering.
-
I've had this vehicle for seven months now, and it has proven to be a great investment. Driving is a breeze, and acceleration is incredibly smooth. The engine RPMs barely get above 3k when accelerating from a stop light, and the car gets up to speed easily with very little struggle. The interior is quiet and comfortable, with excellent visibility. I particularly love the Honda sensing feature with the camera on the passenger side, which is incredibly helpful when passing vehicles on the highway or making sure you're parking close enough to the curb. I do wish there was a camera on the driver's side as well! The adaptive cruise control works great, with the furthest distance setting providing a comfortable 3-second following range, which is a bit far in some driving situations. The closest distance setting is also comfortable, giving about a one-second following distance. The lane keeping system is fantastic - when off, it gives you a visual warning when you are departing your lane; when on, it helps to gently guide you to the center of your lane - the car almost drives by itself! And the lane departure is a gentle reminder - some cars I test drove nagged at you when you started to leave your lane, and the loud notification beeps were quite distracting. The smartphone integration is pretty good - if I plug my Android phone into the USB port, I can use Google navigation that's on my phone (and it automatically shows up on the console screen) - that saved me a few hundred bucks since I didn't have to buy the trim with navigation (and Google maps is generally more user-friendly than most car navigation systems). I also have access to music on my phone and Amazon music. You can also use Pandora or other streaming services or use Honda's Overall, I think the technology and integration are very good. I've only just begun to explore them, but I'm impressed so far. Some other notes: The fold down rear seats can only be operated from the trunk, which means you can securely lock the trunk so the valet driver can't get in without the key. You can also lock out the glove compartment so you need the physical key to get in. The rear seat room is comfortable, even for a 6'3I haven't had any issues with acceleration or speed while in Econ mode. However, I have noticed that when going up hills with cruise control on, the vehicle slows down a bit and doesn't return to the ordered speed as quickly. If you prefer a more responsive ride, you can either turn off Econ mode, drive with the transmission in 'Sport,' or opt for the V-6 or sport model. With around 5000 miles on the car, I'm getting about the advertised 30 combined mpg (advertised at 27/36 mpg & 30 mpg combined). Most of my driving is on the highway, and I've seen mpg go up to 42 mpg. Yesterday, I turned off Econ mode and still got 36 mpg on the highway. Overall, I think this is a great mid-size sedan. While it may not have all the luxury features of other cars, it is very well equipped and made. Plus, if buying a domestic vehicle is important to you, it's worth noting that this Honda was built in Ohio. I probably supported more American jobs with this car purchase than with my previous 'domestic' Ford.

If you were to change the badge to BMW, MB or Audi, the price tag on this car would be $55,000. As someone who has owned an Audi A4, driven A6s, A8s & MB E class, I can say that they are nice cars with beautiful cabins and great performance. However, the Honda Accord Sport SE is an unbelievable value. The cabin is top notch, with quality through & through and many features. The leather interior with red stitching is a nice touch, and the leg room for both front and rear passengers is excellent. It's a very comfortable car for both driver and passengers, and I feel like I could drive from NY to Florida and get out of the car feeling fresh as a daisy. The trunk space is ample, and the controls are easy to use & very intuitive. The engine is a very reliable I4, 2.4L with 189bhp, and while the pickup is adequate, it's not going to match other 4 door, 4 cylinder sedans. However, Honda is not in the performance business. They make FAMILY vehicles. It would be nice if they would up the BHP to 220, but the engine is quiet and revs low. The ride is smooth and quiet even at 70mph, although the 19

The tires on this car are designed to rub against a brake pad protector, which can produce a loud noise that some drivers may find annoying. Despite bringing my car in for repair five times, Honda claims that this noise was designed into the car. While I disagree with this decision, I understand that there may be differing opinions on the matter. However, I do believe that Honda should take responsibility for any issues that arise with their cars. It can be frustrating to encounter unexpected problems, especially when they are not clearly outlined in the car's specifications. In my experience, the 19 inch tires on this car are too big for the front end, which can cause rubbing and other issues. I hope that Honda will take steps to address these concerns and ensure that their customers are satisfied with their products.
