Ford F-150 problems
The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.
History
The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.
The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.
The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).
Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

Common Ford F-150 problems
The Ford F-150, a popular pickup truck model, has faced various issues over the years, as reported by its owners. These problems range from engine issues to transmission problems and even interior design flaws.
One common issue with the 2015-2017 Ford F-150 models is transmission problems, which lead to rough shifting. The 2015 models, in particular, have experienced transmission issues that cause difficulty when shifting gears. The 2016 models also face engine problems, while the 2017 models have experienced a large recall due to a faulty transmission gear indicator.
The MyFord Touch feature, which was intended to enhance the technological options of the console, has been found unreliable by many owners, leading to a class-action lawsuit. The feature has been reported to disable certain vital vehicle commands, such as the defroster or rear-view camera.
Another significant problem with the 2015-2017 F-Series trucks is a frozen door handle latch issue, which has also been reported in 1997-2000 and 2005-2008 F-150 models. Ford initially blamed the issue on users over-torquing replacement spark plugs, but owners have reported that the original spark plugs ejected from the vehicle.
The 1987-1996 Ford F-150 models also experienced transmission problems, with many owners reporting rough shifting and difficulty changing gears.
In summary, the Ford F-150 has faced various issues over the years, including transmission problems, engine issues, and unreliable technological features. These problems have led to recalls, class-action lawsuits, and dissatisfied owners. However, with proper maintenance, many of these issues can be avoided or addressed in a timely manner.

A great truck built like a tank but surprisingly quick. Your truck has the 5.0 (302) engine which is a torque monster with good horsepower, making it move pretty quickly. It also has a great highway ride with plenty of passing power. And if the need arises, it can do smokey burnouts too!
-
Vehicle year: 2003
I'm not sure why I couldn't choose the 5.4L engine as an option, but that's what mine came with. I've owned many of these trucks, and they're practically indestructible. I purchased this one with 85k miles on it, and the only things that have been replaced were the coil packs and alternator. Other than that, the truck runs flawlessly. I would highly recommend these to anyone.

Vehicle year: 2002
I bought this 2002 F150 with 200k miles and it's been great! It's pretty fast and gets around 17 mpg in the city and on the highway, which is impressive for a 5.4 6000lbs truck. While it lacks power when towing heavy things, it's been low cost maintenance so far with only brakes, battery, and spark plugs needing replacement. I did have one bad COP and the front rotors are warped, but they're the originals. I even drove it for 24 hours non-stop and had no problems, and it had no lack of power in mountainous areas. Overall, it's a great truck and I couldn't ask for more. Now I'm looking for a Mustang to cruise around!

Vehicle year: 2000
The truck is really fun to drive and I love the elevated feeling it gives me. Plus, it's got some serious power (especially when you floor it, it sounds like a racecar :D). However, it does guzzle gas like it's going out of style. It seems like every time we go somewhere, we end up stopping at the gas station.

Vehicle year: 2014
I recently purchased an F-150 Platinum with a 6.6ft bed and an Ecoboost engine, and I absolutely love it! Previously, I had a 2010 F150 Lariat that was moderately loaded, but I found myself wishing for more. Once I had some equity in the truck, I decided to trade it in for this beauty, and to my surprise, our payments are nearly the same! Although the two trucks are virtually the same, everything about the way they act is different under the assumption that the engine changes everything. The steering in the Platinum is much more refined, and the road noise on the vehicle is greatly reduced at highway speeds. Initially, I wasn't a fan of the wheels, so I transferred the wheels from our old truck to this one, and now it's actually a truck instead of a pimpmobile! While the gas mileage is slightly poorer with the Ecoboost (14vs17 mixed mpg's) than with the 5.4, I'm assuming it has to do with moving all that weight around. However, the pickup on this engine is remarkable and almost car-like, so that more than makes up for it. The interior controls are mostly digital, with only volume, temp, and some radio preset buttons having hard press keys. The home menu is set up well, and everything in the vehicle is easy to function. Occasionally, you'll have to tap an option again as the first time it didn't register, but this isn't to the point that it's frustrating. The power fold mirrors and back-up camera are luxuries, but now that I have them, I don't know how I lived without them in my previous F-150. They make parking and maneuvering this beast a lot easier in a tighter parking lot, and I have come to rely on them. The right height is perfect and while driving down the road, the vehicle behaves very well. All features work beautifully to keep you on the road, especially during the harsh ND winters. My family's favorite feature of the vehicle has to be the heated/cooled seats. In ND, leather seats are a luxury and this is the first time we have experienced such comfort. Everyone can now enjoy a warm tush on days where temperatures can get as low as -30F on the daily. With leather seats, it can get pretty cold down there before things start to warm up in the vehicle. I highly recommend this vehicle and buying the same brand/model of vehicle twice hasn't let me down. Way to go Ford!

This truck has had several issues, including engine and transmission problems, as well as rust and other cosmetic issues. Despite attempts to have these issues resolved through warranty support, the repairs have been unsatisfactory. It is clear that more needs to be done to ensure the quality of this vehicle.

Hey there! It looks like she's been trucking for a while now, racking up lots of miles and lots of looks. Keep on trucking!
Kay Heaney 2025-11-28
Vehicle year: 2004
The Good: The truck boasts awesome looks and terrific interior room for 5 people, making it perfect for pulling a boat. It also offers great comfort. The Bad: While the transmission has had trouble with leaking seals and shakes intermittently on the road, the real issue lies with the spark plugs. Unfortunately, the design is really bad, and even Ford mechanics struggle to remove them without breaking them off in the cylinder head. This can result in additional labor charges to fish them out, with changing plugs on this model costing anywhere from $500 to $1500! If you're considering buying this truck used, make sure the spark plugs have already been changed or take the cost into account when pricing.
Green Bradtke 2025-11-28
Vehicle year: 2007
This truck has some serious issues that need to be addressed. The spark plug problem and cam phasers going at 200kms are major concerns. Additionally, the driveshaft and tie rod ends/ball joints need constant replacement due to poor design. While the truck is enjoyable to drive, these issues make it a costly investment. As a Ford enthusiast, it is disappointing to see such a letdown from the brand. However, I am confident that Ford will take responsibility and make the necessary improvements to regain customers' trust. In the meantime, I will consider other options such as Toyota or Honda.
Ubaldo Walsh 2025-11-25
Vehicle year: 2018
The truck has some great features, such as a sharp appearance and a powerful 2.7 liter V-6 engine that provides excellent acceleration. It also has good interior finishes and rides well for a truck, making it a suitable choice for those who need to tow a boat. However, there are some issues that detract from the overall experience. The 10-speed transmission can be frustrating, as it struggles to find the right gear and produces noticeable clunks when downshifting. The stop/start feature is not particularly useful and cannot be turned off permanently. Additionally, the handling and steering can feel loose, requiring extra attention to stay on the road. There have also been some rattling issues, which may need to be addressed by the dealer. Overall, while the truck has some positive attributes, it falls short of expectations. It is not the enjoyable driving experience that was anticipated, and given the chance to do it over, a different truck would be chosen.According to the 2019 Auto Issue of Consumer Reports, the 2018 Ford F150 has been listed as a 'worst used car' based on reliability reports from owners. However, it is important to note that CR has a history of being critical towards trucks. Despite this, I can confidently say that my truck is running fine overall and still looks sharp. Although I did have to replace the oil pan gasket, which is a common issue in later model F150s, the dealership I went to was not up to par and it took 5 weeks to get it fixed. Despite this inconvenience, I am satisfied with my truck, except for the 10-speed transmission. The dealership did take care of the original rattles, but there are a couple of new squeaks that are a bit annoying. Nonetheless, I am a big fan of the Ford Sync system, which has a big screen, is easy to use, and has a nice backup camera.
