Ford F-150 problems

The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.
History
The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.
The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.
The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).
Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

Common Ford F-150 problems
The Ford F-150, a popular pickup truck model, has faced various issues over the years, as reported by its owners. These problems range from engine issues to transmission problems and even interior design flaws.
One common issue with the 2015-2017 Ford F-150 models is transmission problems, which lead to rough shifting. The 2015 models, in particular, have experienced transmission issues that cause difficulty when shifting gears. The 2016 models also face engine problems, while the 2017 models have experienced a large recall due to a faulty transmission gear indicator.
The MyFord Touch feature, which was intended to enhance the technological options of the console, has been found unreliable by many owners, leading to a class-action lawsuit. The feature has been reported to disable certain vital vehicle commands, such as the defroster or rear-view camera.
Another significant problem with the 2015-2017 F-Series trucks is a frozen door handle latch issue, which has also been reported in 1997-2000 and 2005-2008 F-150 models. Ford initially blamed the issue on users over-torquing replacement spark plugs, but owners have reported that the original spark plugs ejected from the vehicle.
The 1987-1996 Ford F-150 models also experienced transmission problems, with many owners reporting rough shifting and difficulty changing gears.
In summary, the Ford F-150 has faced various issues over the years, including transmission problems, engine issues, and unreliable technological features. These problems have led to recalls, class-action lawsuits, and dissatisfied owners. However, with proper maintenance, many of these issues can be avoided or addressed in a timely manner.

Great truck! I'm so glad to hear that you loved your 04, and the Harley option really takes it to another level.

For a small truck, it's amazing! I'm so surprised by how well this thing tows with only a 5. O (302). We pull an 18 ft enclosed trailer loaded with tons of camping gear, and the truck doesn't even shudder when pulling onto high-speed roads. Not to mention, this truck won't break down - the most repairs it's had are a few starters and a window motor.

I bought my truck for only 75 bucks when I was just 16 years old. The guy who owned it before me was taking it to the junkyard, but I saw potential in it. I bought a used alternator for it and she lasted me a good two years. Now that's what I call a great deal! Oh, and did I mention that when she finally gave out, she had over 270,000 miles on her? The guy before me and I both put her through her paces with that 5.0 engine.

Hey there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2008 Ford F-150 regular cab 2WD with the 4.2L V6, auto trans w/ OD. It currently has 80,000 miles on it and I have to say, I'm really happy with it! I have the reg cab model that has the little side opening doors, which is awesome for storing tools and other things behind the front bench seat. I highly recommend getting this model or the larger capacity with fold down bench or the crew cab. The little side window that comes on those 3rd and 4th opening doors is crucial to being able to look through before changing lanes. Safety first, right? The truck itself is pretty stout and looks damn good. It's much larger and higher than my 1995 F-150, and has a lot of room inside. The engineers obviously had safety in mind when designing this model for side impact, as the area between where you sit and the side of the door is further away than the older models. The truck sits much higher than older models and gives you a commanding view of the road. The 4.2L V6 is plenty for what I need and gets really good gas mileage in my opinion. The auto trans w/ OD is nice for towing and also for city driving. I prefer auto trans on trucks because in some cases with manual you have to slide the seat forward too close to the airbag to engage the clutch. I did my research on the 4.2L V6 and it is bullet proof. It has the timing chain too so it should last the life of the truck. I don't want to talk trash about other engines offered during this time period so I will just leave you to do your own research. If you're a lead footed driver that likes to abuse your truck and race all over the place the 4.2L V6 is not going to give you that 0-60mph in 2 sec performance you seek. If you drive moderately and cruise 75-85mph on the freeway the 4.2L will do just fine and still has plenty of power left to pass if you need to at those speeds. You'll drive past gas stations if you drive with respect for your vehicle. I expect to get many miles out of my truck as it has performed great for me and still looks like a new model. The only issue I have is that the bed of the truck sits high, so if you like to load and retrieve things from the side, you may need to be 6ft tall. UPDATE: I sold the truck, not because of any issues, but because I am still very much attached to my 95 F-150. Be advised that the 2008 F-150 did not lose value, and I was able to sell it for more than I paid very easily. If you maintain your F-150, it will hold its value and possibly even gain in value like mine did (if you buy it used). Cheers!

The truck is really nice and fun to drive, although the 6 cylinder can be a little sluggish. The suspension can be a bit rough, and the paint is a little thin and chips easily.

Vehicle year: 2015
I recently purchased a Ford F150 at the end of 2015 and got a great deal. Unfortunately, I've been experiencing some issues with the truck. A few weeks ago, while driving at 45 mph, the truck suddenly locked up and wouldn't go faster than 10 mph. Although I turned it off and everything seemed fine for a while, the same thing happened again and I was almost rear-ended. The truck screen displayed a message saying 'Service Advance Traq' and the truck was lurching back and forth. I took it to the dealer and they determined that the throttle assembly was broken. Although I think there may be other problems, the part is currently on back order. Additionally, after the first month, the truck started making engine noise and is very weak with not much pickup. The A/C is also not very effective and the back doors are annoying to open and close. I had a Tundra for 8 years and only needed to replace the A/C fan, tires, and brakes. I needed something reliable for my business, but unfortunately, this Ford has been a huge mistake. I paid 38k for this truck and it has only lasted 6000 miles. I'm currently in a rental Ford Escape and feeling quite upset.

Hi there! I'm so glad to hear that you bought your first truck, a 2004 F-150 supercab 4x4 lariat on black Friday 2005. It sounds like you made a great choice with all the options you got! I love the automatic on the floor too, it's such a cool feature. It's amazing that you've put almost 185,000 miles on it and you're still going strong. I'm sure you'll get to 300,000 miles or more before you even think about getting a new truck. However, I understand that maintaining a vehicle can be expensive, and it sounds like you've had some mixed feelings about it. Thank you for sharing your experience and recommendation with us. It's always good to know what to look out for when buying a new vehicle. Have a great day!

This pickup has great ergonomics and is a pleasure to ride. However, there are some known issues with the 5.4L Triton engines that Ford has yet to address without customer payment. One issue is that the ignition coils are prone to failure, which I have experienced myself. Another issue is that the spark plugs can blow out of the aluminum cylinder head on the passenger side. Lastly, the 4 Wheel Drive disengagement spring is weak, which can make it difficult to shift out of 4 Wheel Hi Range without stopping and backing up. Despite these issues, this pickup is still a great choice for those who prioritize comfort and functionality.

Hi there! I'm a big fan of Ford trucks - my family has owned 10 over the years! My first brand new F150 was in 2014 and it was an absolute dream to drive with its 5.0 engine. Unfortunately, I was in an accident and had to trade it in for a 2018 F150 with a 5.0 engine and a 10-speed transmission. While I did experience some issues with the engine and steering, the dealership was able to fix them for me. Although there were some minor hiccups along the way, overall I'm still a big fan of Ford trucks and their handling. Thanks for listening!

I've been a proud owner of my 2019 F150 XLT Super Crew with 3.5 Eco Boost and 10 speed automatic for about 6 months now. While I initially thought everything about this truck was a little better than my old 2013, I recently encountered some issues while towing my holiday trailer. Unfortunately, this truck did not perform as well as I had hoped and I found it to be the least capable towing truck I've owned in 34 years. Despite the advertised capacity of the truck, I had trouble keeping the back end of the truck on track while towing my 2006 Jay Flight 27bh trailer with a GVW of 7500 LBS. I have towed this trailer with several other trucks in the past without any issues. After some adjustments, I was able to make it home safely, but I was disappointed with the overall performance of the truck. While I have owned 20 Ford trucks in the last 34 years, I am considering trading this one in for a Ram 1500. However, I must say that if towing is not a priority for you, this is still a good truck.
