2014 Ford F-150 problems
The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.
History
The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.
The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.
The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).
Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

Common 2014 Ford F-150 problems
The 2014 Ford F-150 has been a popular choice among truck buyers due to its reliable 3.5-liter turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine, premium features, and excellent safety ratings. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems reported by owners. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues:
- Climate Control System Issues: A significant number of 2014 Ford F-150 owners have reported issues with the trucks' in-cabin climate system. The problems cited specifically mention the blower motor only working when turned to high speed, the fan speed changing despite being untouched, and the climate control system simultaneously blowing hot air on one side of the truck and cold on the other.
- Infotainment System Problems: There was a widely known issue with the touchscreen infotainment systems in 2014 Ford F-150 models. It affected music playback, the backup camera, GPS navigation, and Bluetooth pairing, among other problems. The display screen would reportedly sometimes go completely black, freeze up, or not shut down when the truck was turned off. Some owners reported having to open and close the doors or turn the key on and off in the ignition to get the system up and running again.
- Brake Issues: Ford issued a recall in 2016 for over 270,000 2013 and 2014 F-150s due to faulty master brake cylinders that caused fluid loss, resulting in a loss of brake power, particularly at the front wheels. The recall applied primarily to trucks with the base model V6 engine. Additionally, another brake-related recall was issued in late 2014 for brake lights that either did not illuminate whatsoever or did so after a substantial delay caused by an electrical issue.
- Electronic Power Steering Issues: Approximately 5,675 trucks were recalled in June 2014 because of an incorrectly installed motor position sensor magnet. The faulty sensor magnet could cause power loss to the entire electronic power steering system, resulting in erratic or uncontrollable steering.
- Coolant Leaks: A nagging issue with 2009-2013 models is coolant leaks at the heater core. The factory plastic inlet and outlet connectors can become brittle and crack over time, causing a leak. These connectors are located on the firewall and can be repaired using new heater core connectors.
- Exhaust Leaks: Certain 4.6L and 5.4L V8 engine powered F-150 owners may hear a “ticking” sound coming from the engine that changes with engine RPM. This could be a leak at the exhaust manifold caused either by loose/broken exhaust studs or a cracked exhaust manifold.
While these issues may be concerning, it is essential to note that not every 2014 Ford F-150 will experience these problems. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent or address these issues before they become significant concerns.

- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake master cylinder and, if necessary, the brake booster, free of charge. The recall began on October 28, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S24.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2014 Ford F-150 and Flex vehicles manufactured March 1, 2014, to May 31, 2014. The affected vehicles were manufactured with a reduced clearance between the seat frame and the seat track assembly. This can cause the Occupant Classification System (OCS) to inaccurately register passenger weight and improperly suppress the passenger front airbag when the passenger seat is occupied by an adult passenger. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
- Consequence: Improper suppression of the passenger airbag increases the risk of an injury to the seat occupant in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front passenger airbag.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will widen the gap between the seat frame and seat track assembly and recalibrate the seat OCS, free of charge. The recall began November 25, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14C10.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2014 F-150 vehicles manufactured March 1, 2014, to March 13, 2014. The affected vehicles may have a brake pedal position switch that is improperly adjusted. As a result, the brake lights may illuminate with a delay or not at all. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
- Consequence: If the brake lights fail to illuminate, or illuminate after a delay, there is an increased risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford has notified owners, and dealers will adjust the brake pedal position switch, free of charge. The recall began on November 24, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14C09. Note: Until the vehicle has been remedied, owners are advised not to use their cruise control system.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Park It: 1
- Components: STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2014 Ford F-150 trucks manufactured May 26, 2014 to June 19, 2014, and equipped with Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). The affected vehicles may have an incorrectly installed EPAS gear motor position sensor magnet that can lead to a total loss of steering control while driving.
- Consequence: A loss of steering control while driving increases the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the EPAS steering gear, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Note: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until they have been remedied. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S09.

I recently purchased an F-150 Platinum with a 6.6ft bed and an Ecoboost engine, and I absolutely love it! Previously, I had a 2010 F150 Lariat that was moderately loaded, but I found myself wishing for more. Once I had some equity in the truck, I decided to trade it in for this beauty, and to my surprise, our payments are nearly the same! Although the two trucks are virtually the same, everything about the way they act is different under the assumption that the engine changes everything. The steering in the Platinum is much more refined, and the road noise on the vehicle is greatly reduced at highway speeds. Initially, I wasn't a fan of the wheels, so I transferred the wheels from our old truck to this one, and now it's actually a truck instead of a pimpmobile! While the gas mileage is slightly poorer with the Ecoboost (14vs17 mixed mpg's) than with the 5.4, I'm assuming it has to do with moving all that weight around. However, the pickup on this engine is remarkable and almost car-like, so that more than makes up for it. The interior controls are mostly digital, with only volume, temp, and some radio preset buttons having hard press keys. The home menu is set up well, and everything in the vehicle is easy to function. Occasionally, you'll have to tap an option again as the first time it didn't register, but this isn't to the point that it's frustrating. The power fold mirrors and back-up camera are luxuries, but now that I have them, I don't know how I lived without them in my previous F-150. They make parking and maneuvering this beast a lot easier in a tighter parking lot, and I have come to rely on them. The right height is perfect and while driving down the road, the vehicle behaves very well. All features work beautifully to keep you on the road, especially during the harsh ND winters. My family's favorite feature of the vehicle has to be the heated/cooled seats. In ND, leather seats are a luxury and this is the first time we have experienced such comfort. Everyone can now enjoy a warm tush on days where temperatures can get as low as -30F on the daily. With leather seats, it can get pretty cold down there before things start to warm up in the vehicle. I highly recommend this vehicle and buying the same brand/model of vehicle twice hasn't let me down. Way to go Ford!

Congratulations on your purchase of a 2014 F150 Xlt V8 and trading in your 2007 F150! It's great to hear that the 6-speed transmission has improved the smooth pickup of the V8 compared to the 2007 model. It's also impressive that your original brakes and rotors are still in good condition after 58k miles. Although you had to replace the factory tires at 48k, it's wonderful to hear that your truck has never given you any problems and runs well in the mountains and on wet roads. The blue Jean metallic color sounds like a great choice and it's clear that you love the smooth drive. It's great to hear that you plan on keeping this truck forever!

I'm glad to hear that you are very satisfied!

The F-150 definitely delivers on its promises. It has only required oil changes and tire rotations, which is impressive. However, there is one issue with the aesthetics. Ford used too much plastic in the cab, which gives the interior a rather cheap look for a $35,000 vehicle. It would have been better if the XLT incorporated some fabric or other material on the door and dash areas to break up all of that plastic. On the bright side, the power from the 3.7 V6 is more than enough for most people, unless you are towing over 6,000 pounds on a regular basis. It has the acceleration of a V8 and great fuel economy. If you keep the truck at 70 MPH, you will get 21.5 MPG or better on the highway. Even on hilly terrain like I-77, I've managed to get 21.9 MPG on a few round trips from Florida to Ohio. For daily driving around Tampa, Florida, I get an average of 18.3 MPG, which is pretty good considering the AC is almost always on down here. If you live in cooler climates, you might get even better fuel economy. Although the warranty could be longer to better compete with other brands and the price of these trucks is approaching insanity, the F-150 is still a great choice. This is my fourth truck and even though I sometimes find myself eyeing those new Chevy's, you really can't go wrong with the F-150. Acquired 3/2014

I purchased this truck brand new and have driven it for 120,000 miles. It has been an incredibly reliable workhorse that provides all-day comfort. The truck is spacious enough to accommodate tall individuals like myself, but it is also suitable for shorter people. Unlike other truck brands, Ford can actually accommodate those who are 6'4Hunting in the Rockies, skiing in the cold, exploring the Nevada deserts, enduring Texas summers, navigating terrible fire service roads, and braving 12-inch snow storms - this truck has been through it all. And it has never let me down. Here are some of the things I love about it: 1) It steers predictably, even in challenging weather conditions. It gives me a sense of control and safety. 2) The pin pad on the door is a lifesaver. I never have to worry about locking myself out of the truck. 3) It looks great and turns heads wherever I go. And let's not forget the 5.0 V8 engine - it's the shiz and sounds amazing! However, there are a few minor issues that I've noticed: 1) The turn signal knob doesn't have a solid mechanical feel, and it takes some getting used to. 2) The traction control can be a bit too sensitive in wet or slippery conditions. 3) The oil filter is in a tricky location, which can make changing it a bit messy. Overall, this truck is a reliable and stylish companion that I would recommend to anyone.

I had a negative experience with Freeway Ford in Denver. When my truck was new and with no wear on the brake pads, the rotors warped. The dealer turned the rotors, but they warped again. Unfortunately, Ford refused to replace the rotors. I decided to take my truck to a repair shop and they installed better rotors. Since then, I have had no problems. Although the cost was $1400, it was worth it. I also had other warranty complaints, but unfortunately, the dealer's response was not helpful. They simply said, 'We fixed it like Ford told us to. Not my problem, talk to Ford.' Therefore, I would advise buyers to beware of Freeway Ford in Denver. On a positive note, the work I had performed (upgrading the rotors) solved the problem. Although Ford and the dealer did not help, I am happy with the outcome.

The gaskets on my 2014 car failed unexpectedly, causing oil leaks, despite my regular maintenance. However, I was fortunate that my insurance covered the cost of repairs up to 75k miles. Although I am disappointed that this happened with such low mileage, I am confident that this issue has been resolved after having the valve cover gaskets, rear main seal gasket, and oil pan gasket replaced. I have decided to move on from Ford, but I understand that this issue can be common in other vehicles as well. Additionally, I noticed some rust on the frame, which is a common issue with American car manufacturers. It would be beneficial for them to address this issue by painting or coating the frame.

I have experienced some issues with my truck and have been working with Ford to resolve them. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the issues have persisted and my truck has been in the shop for over 40 days. However, I am grateful that I purchased an extended warranty. I am hopeful that we can find a resolution soon.

I had a bad experience with my Ford trucks. My 2010 F150 had a rough ride and my 2014 had a problem with the V-8 Triton engine that caused a terrible noise at start up. Unfortunately, this is a common issue with Fords. I decided to trade it in for a new model with a different engine. However, I experienced the same issue with my new truck. After driving it for a couple of years, the noise has gotten worse. As a result, I have decided to switch to a Toyota Tundra. Thank you for reading my experience with Ford.

I am sorry to hear about the issues you have been experiencing with your 2014 F150 3.5 Ecoboost. It sounds like you have had a frustrating time with the engine light coming on frequently and various other problems. It must be disappointing to have had multiple repair facilities look at it and not find a solution. I understand that the Ford dealer has now recommended an engine replacement which is a significant expense. It is understandable that you are feeling frustrated and disappointed with the situation. Please know that I am here to help and support you in any way I can.
