The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. I purchased this vehicle brand new from my local dealership seven years ago next month. It came equipped with a 3.5 ecoboost and max tow package, 4x4 Off Road package with locking rear diff and skid plates. The sticker price was $45,000, but I was able to get it for $40,000 at the end of the year. Although the dealer wasn't willing to negotiate much on the price, they gave me a very fair value on my 2005 Frontier trade-in. I've put 98,000 miles on it, including 12,000 towing a 6,000 pound trailer. I absolutely love the ecoboost for towing, especially over Colorado passes such as Red Mountain, Lizard Head and Wolf Creek. With the original tires, I was able to get a combined fuel economy of 20 mpg, which is pretty decent. However, I didn't care for the Goodyear 4 ply Wranglers. I'm currently running BFG all terrain 10 ply tires, which has caused my mileage to drop to 18 combined, but the truck feels much more planted and corners better. I often drive it out of town for work and have been very pleased with its reliability. I take it to Ford for a full service oil change every 5k miles. The only other expenses I've had are two sets of tires, a battery, and front brakes at 90,000 miles. The throttle body failed at 68,000 miles, but the dealer was able to repair it for $670. This is the only maintenance expense that I would consider outside of normal wear and tear. I recently purchased this truck after driving 2008 and 2010 F150's for the past four years. Although both of the older trucks were great, I never felt the 5.4 liter V8 had a lot of get up and go (had both the 3.73 and the 3.55 rear ends). However, with the new EcoBoost, the power is much more noticeable and it tows the boat effortlessly. The ride and steering also feel much improved over the previous models. The exterior styling is well done, giving the truck a very strong stance. The interior is spacious and comfortable with a nice wide armrest that folds up for an extra seat on the front bench.

You know what? This car is one of the best I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few in my time. From Mercedes-Benz to BMW, Lexus to Toyota, Chevy to Buick, Cadillac to Nissan, Pontiac to Range-rover, and even Hummer, I've driven them all! But this one really stands out.

You've almost got 8000 trouble-free miles on it so far! You've used it to pull skid steers, building materials, and snowmobiles, and the power this motor has is incredible. It's much better to drive than most V-8's and pulls like a diesel. The interior is very comfortable, and you're getting 16-19 mixed driving mileage. If you drive nicely, I'm sure it would easily get low 20's. Yours has 3:31 gears. You've had an 06' Hemi and a 05 5.3 Chevy before, and this pickup puts both of those to complete shame in every department!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my 2012 FX2 EcoBoost F150 V6 3.5 L. When I first got it, it was super peppy and averaged around 20 mpg at highway speeds cross country. Pressing on the pedal hard was really impressive! However, one humid day on I40, pressing on the pedal to pass resulted in bucking and halting. Long story short, I found out that there is a service bulletin on the turbo charger shield. Apparently, it collects water and then dumps it in your engine. I replaced the catalytic converter because it threw a code, but it killed that one within a week. I found the bulletin online and showed it to the dealer. They did comply with the service bulletin and charged me for a second catalytic converter, but it has never been the same. Spraying some CRC in the intake did improve response and performance, but it's still not the same. Mileage is now down to 18 mpg. There's still a slight hesitation when the turbo kicks in. Over 110,000 on it. Update: I have 128,000 on it now. It's still getting about 18mpg. I had hesitation for a while, but it was corrected with new spark plugs. I also had a coolant leak which repair shops used a shotgun approach to find. The water pump was leaking and we wound up replacing the pump, thermostat, hoses across the engine, and new belts because the old ones were soaked (and old so I'll give them that). The turbo is doing well and it runs well. It still pulls like it means it. I don't want to get rid of it yet. Update 180000 approx now and there's a small coolant leak from somewhere that needs to be addressed. I also noticed that the dashboard lights stay on, so I have to disconnect the battery to keep it from draining. The cause is a shift assembly with many plastic pieces that has broken and is not recognizing when it's in park. I must replace it, which will cost around $300. Overall, I'm still happy with my truck and I hope this information helps you!

I recently purchased a 2012 platmun ecotec and while it is a beautiful truck, I have experienced some concerning issues. The motor has lost power without warning on multiple occasions and the gas mileage is not great. After doing some research, I found that several others have had similar problems. When I brought this up to my dealer, they claimed to have never heard of these issues. Despite this, I know that I am not alone in experiencing these problems. If you search for ecotec online, you will find many similar stories. Additionally, I have had some trouble with the Bluetooth and GPS causing echoing during phone calls. I just wanted to share my experience and advise others to be cautious. Thank you for listening.

Four wheeler drive actuators are known to need replacement often. Additionally, power steering problems may occur, and the transmission may drop to 1 or 2 gears out of nowhere at speeds over 55, especially in cold weather or on rough roads. If you notice the advanced trac light flashing after washing your vehicle or in the rain, don't worry, it's a common issue.

The Ecoboost V6 engine is powerful, but it does have a drawback when it comes to fuel mileage. Unfortunately, we only average about 11.5 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway if we stay in the right lane. The supercab 4 door design can be a bit challenging, as you need a lot of room on both sides to get in and out. Additionally, the front doors do not have a catch point when you open them, so be ready to hold the door if you don't want to hit the vehicle next to you. If you have back seat riders, you have to undo your seat belt and open the front door in order to let them in or out, since the seat belt is attached to the back door. Prior years had the seat belt attached to the front seat, which at least kept you from having to undo your seat belt. However, the ride is great and very smooth at all speeds. The locking rear diff is also very nice when pulling a boat out of the water or driving through mud. Overall, we like the truck, but we don't use it much due to its very poor fuel economy. We purchased it brand new 8 years ago and have only put 42k miles on it. Update: As of 08/2019, not much has changed. We took a trip to Daytona Beach pulling a trailer with 2 motorcycles on it and averaged 10.6 mpg, which is still a terrible fuel economy. However, the truck still performs very well and looks very nice sitting in the garage for most of its life. We almost feel guilty driving it due to its combined 13.1 mpg (lack of) fuel economy.

I've owned every model of half-ton truck from Ford to Toyota, so I was excited to read reviews and learn more about the latest F150 with the EcoBoost engine. I ordered one just the way I wanted it, but unfortunately, I don't believe the hype. While the engine can pass most vehicles on the road, it's not as fuel-efficient as advertised. In fact, myself and several other owners have found that we only get about 14 to 15 miles per gallon on average, with 16 to 18 on the highway. However, I'm really enjoying my new 2013 Dodge 2500, which gets an impressive 18.9 miles per gallon.
