2000 Ford F-150 problems
The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.
History
The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.
The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.
The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).
Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-25
- VIN: 1FTRX18W8YN
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: This vehicle, as do all, have dual master cylinders, great, always have a front or rear brake system function in an emergency, but this vehicle also has FLEXIBLE to hard lines from master cylinder to ABS unit. I was driving down our long downhill driveway, pressed on the brake pedal, heard a pop and pedal went to the floor, NO brakes at all and buy the time I got to the emergency brake, which did little to stop the truck, I was out in the road. Glad I wasn't out on a highway doing 50MPH. Examined what had happened and the brake line from the master cylinder to ABS unit split where the flexible line joined the hard line, and when that line breaks, no brakes at all, no backup safety system. Don't know how the flexible lines ever passed safety requirements when manufactured, but they certainly shouldn't be on a truck that's 23 years old and all should be replaced with hard lines.

- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: THIS IS A PERSONAL RECOMMENDATION, I HAVE 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE AT DEALERSHIPS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY AND HAVE SEEN A LOT OF CHANGES, I SEE TOO MANY PEOPLE THESE DAYS DRIVING WITH NO HEADLIGHTS ON AT NIGHT, ITS BECAUSE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS COME ON AUTOMATICALLY WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED. THEY SEE THEIR INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ON SO THEY THINK THEIR HEADLIGHTS ARE ON. A SOFTWARE UPDATE ACROSS THE BOARD OF MANUFACTURERS SHOULD BE MADE TO NOT TURN ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS UNLESS PARKING LIGHTS OR HEADLIGHTS ARE ON, JUST LIKE IT USED TO BE YEARS AGO
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-02-14
- VIN: 2FTRX18L7VC
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I HAVE A 2000 FORD F150 4X4 5.4 LITER ENGINE WITH NOW MY SECOND BLOWN OUT SPARK PLUG. I PAID A LOT FOR THE FIRST SPARK PLUG REPAIR. I KNOW THIS IS A FORD DESIGN PROBLEM - IT IS WELL-KNOWN. IS FORD COMPENSATING CONSUMERS FOR "THEIR" PROBLEM? I ONLY HAVE 140,685 MILES ON THIS TRUCK AND DO ALL THE REQUIRED MAINTENANCE MYSELF AND THE SPECIFIED INTERVALS. IF FORD IS NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT THEN IT IS THE GOVERNMENT'S REPSONSIBILITY TO MAKE THEM. I AM RETIRED AND NOT ABLE TO REPAIR THIS MYSELF. CAN YOU DIRECT ME TO THE RIGHT GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT OR ARE YOU IT? FORD MUST COMPENSATE THE CONSUMER FULLY AND NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE THE CONSUMER AS THE GUINEA PIG AND HAVE US FORK OUT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR THEIR KNOWN BAD DESIGN. THE DESIGN ISSUE WITH THE BLOWN OUT SPARK PLUG IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH THREADS IN TO THE HEAD TO HOLD THE SPARK PLUG IN. OVER TIME THE SPARK PLUG LOOSENS UP AND BLOWS OUT DUE TO THE HIGH COMPRESSION OF THE PISTON. ALL MECHANICS KNOW OF THIS ISSUE AND HAVE REPAIR HUNDREDS OF THESE PROBLEMS! *JS

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-04-06
- VIN: 1FTRX18L1YK
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: IN 2006, I CHANGED PLUGS AT 95,000 MILES AS A TUNE UP. SIX MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE #8 SPARK PLUG WAS EJECTED. HAD IT TOWED HOME, CHECKED THE THREADS AND REPLACED THE PLUG AND COIL. ON APRIL 6, 2017, AT 134,000 MILES, THE SAME PLUG WAS EJECTED WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AGAIN. THIS TIME I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A SHOP TO INSTALL A HELICOIL REPAIR. THEY WARNED ME THAT THE NEXT FAILURE WOULD REQUIRE A HEAD REMOVAL, AND SIGNIFICANT COST. THIS IS A VERY WEAK POINT IN THIS DESIGN, FORD SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.

This is my third Ford truck and I am a Ford truck convert for life! They ride, drive, and perform flawlessly in any circumstance. The build quality is excellent and well-known. If you want the best, be sure to request an F-150 from their Norfolk, VA assembly plant, which is the best in North America. I have previously owned a Chevy, Dodge, and Toyota truck, and although they were decent, none were as good overall as the Ford. I highly recommend this vehicle. Ask anyone who owns one!
-
I really admire this truck! Despite having 209,000 miles on it, the 5.4L engine and transmission are still going strong. Unfortunately, I had a bit of a mishap with the rear axle seal, which caused some damage to the differential - entirely my fault, I'm afraid. Additionally, I've been told that the control arm bushings are prone to making noise in all Fords, so those will need to be replaced. However, aside from those issues, I haven't had any problems with it. Every mechanic I've spoken to has assured me that as long as I keep up with maintenance, it should last well beyond 300,000 miles. In fact, I'm already looking forward to my next Ford F150!
-
You've done a great job maintaining this vehicle! With 102k miles on the original transmission, it's impressive that it still looks good after 10 years. This truck can handle anything you throw at it with ease.
-
The F-150 is an amazing car! I have been driving it for 3 years and it has been a great experience. When I bought it, it had 20k miles on it and now it has 105k miles and still runs great. The only mechanical problems I have had were with the spark plugs and a wheel lug breaking off, but other than that, nothing major. The interior is nicely designed and the car has plenty of power. While the 0-60 time is good, it could be improved. I am confident that this truck will easily last another 80k miles and will not disappoint!
-
It's been a great vehicle! The only exception is that the bed cover has been off for repair more than it has been on the truck.

I purchased this pickup hoping to get at least 20 MPG and this has been a disappointment. However, I must say that I really like the handling and performance of this truck. It has plenty of power for what I need. The best I have ever gotten is 18 MPG going downhill, but other than that, it has been a great truck. I just wish it got better mileage.
Terrell Rolfson 2024-11-09
Good light work truck... good towing and hauling. Solid on long trips. Minor repairs necessary on ignition and some seals... all covered by warranty. A/C could be better.
Chaim Hickle 2024-08-14
Hey there! I use this truck every day for installing fences. It always gets the job done, but I've noticed that the 4.2 V6 is a bit underpowered when the truck is loaded or pulling a trailer.
Fern Schneider 2024-07-13
I bought this truck back in December 2006 when my old 93 Suburban's transmission gave out. My wife is in a wheelchair and the Suburban was easy for her to get in and out of, so I needed a vehicle that could accommodate her. Although this truck was a spur-of-the-moment purchase, I was able to get credit for it. However, my wife doesn't like it because she has trouble getting into it. The passenger seat is almost 2 inches higher than the driver's seat, making it difficult for her to get in and out. Additionally, the odometer keeps turning on and off due to a crack in the soldering, which is a known issue on F150.net. The fuel economy is not great either, as this small-block V8 only gets 12 mpg, whereas my Suburban with a big 350 engine got an average of 16 to 18 mpg. Lastly, the ABS system has stopped working.
Giovanny Brekke 2024-06-08
The transmission was replaced at 64000 miles. Unfortunately, the fuel economy is only average at best.
