The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.

History

The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.

The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.

The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).

Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

  • Summary: THE INCIDENT TOOK PLACE ON AN EXIT ON INTERSTATE (I-610 LOOP SOUTH IN HOUSTON). MY SON CAME TO A STOP WHEN CAR IN FRONT STOPPED ABRUPTLY. THIS IS WHEN MY SON WAS REAR ENDED BY 2016 F-250 THAT WAS TOWING HORSE TRAILER. THIS PUSHED MY SON'S TRUCK INTO THE CAR IN FRONT. IMPACT COMPLETELY BUCKLED MY SON'S TRUCK BED AND DAMAGED THE FRONT AND THE INSIDE CABIN. BOTH THE FRONT SEATS BROKE (BACK RECLINING PORTION SNAPPED BACKWARD) PLUS NEITHER AIRBAGS INFLATED FROM THE IMPACT. SO MY QUESTION IS WHY WOULD THE FRONT SEATS SNAP BACKWARDS (IS IT DESIGN FLAW?) AND WHY DIDN'T THE AIRBAGS INFLATE FROM THE IMPACT TO THE CAR IN FRONT? FROM THE DAMAGE TO ALL THE VEHICLES INVOLVED YOU CAN SEE THAT IT WAS A VERY HARD IMPACT.

Negative 2008 Ford F-150 car reviews

  1. Kory Koelpin 2024-04-21

The 2008 F-150 has had some issues, but I have gained extensive experience in repairing and maintaining it. Through my expertise, I have successfully installed three transmissions, two engines, and resolved countless other incidentals. While there have been issues with spark plugs stripping out of the heads, I have the knowledge and skills to address this problem. Overall, I believe that the 2008 F-150 is a reliable truck that can be a great investment with proper care and attention.

  2. Mark Mertz 2024-04-16

I noticed that the F-150 I acquired for heavy work was not the best fit for my needs. While it may be suitable for occasional work and commuting, it has limited capabilities. I found it to be underpowered, loud, with poor gas mileage and reliability. Unfortunately, I had to spend a small fortune keeping this truck running. As a result, I decided to replace it as soon as I could afford to.

Positive 2008 Ford F-150 car reviews

  1. Maximus Stehr 2025-05-10

Hey there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2008 Ford F-150 regular cab 2WD with the 4.2L V6, auto trans w/ OD. It currently has 80,000 miles on it and I have to say, I'm really happy with it! I have the reg cab model that has the little side opening doors, which is awesome for storing tools and other things behind the front bench seat. I highly recommend getting this model or the larger capacity with fold down bench or the crew cab. The little side window that comes on those 3rd and 4th opening doors is crucial to being able to look through before changing lanes. Safety first, right? The truck itself is pretty stout and looks damn good. It's much larger and higher than my 1995 F-150, and has a lot of room inside. The engineers obviously had safety in mind when designing this model for side impact, as the area between where you sit and the side of the door is further away than the older models. The truck sits much higher than older models and gives you a commanding view of the road. The 4.2L V6 is plenty for what I need and gets really good gas mileage in my opinion. The auto trans w/ OD is nice for towing and also for city driving. I prefer auto trans on trucks because in some cases with manual you have to slide the seat forward too close to the airbag to engage the clutch. I did my research on the 4.2L V6 and it is bullet proof. It has the timing chain too so it should last the life of the truck. I don't want to talk trash about other engines offered during this time period so I will just leave you to do your own research. If you're a lead footed driver that likes to abuse your truck and race all over the place the 4.2L V6 is not going to give you that 0-60mph in 2 sec performance you seek. If you drive moderately and cruise 75-85mph on the freeway the 4.2L will do just fine and still has plenty of power left to pass if you need to at those speeds. You'll drive past gas stations if you drive with respect for your vehicle. I expect to get many miles out of my truck as it has performed great for me and still looks like a new model. The only issue I have is that the bed of the truck sits high, so if you like to load and retrieve things from the side, you may need to be 6ft tall. UPDATE: I sold the truck, not because of any issues, but because I am still very much attached to my 95 F-150. Be advised that the 2008 F-150 did not lose value, and I was able to sell it for more than I paid very easily. If you maintain your F-150, it will hold its value and possibly even gain in value like mine did (if you buy it used). Cheers!

  2. Judah Bahringer 2025-04-29

You made an excellent choice with the XL decor group and auto transmission, limited slip rear end, and sliding rear glass. This truck is well-built and designed, and rides like a Cadillac. In town, I've gotten as high as 19 miles per gallon, which is just as good as the Hyundai Accent I replaced. Even with 10% ethanol blends, I haven't noticed any negative effects on mileage, which is a common issue with other engines. Unfortunately, straight gas isn't available in my state. The V6 engine provides plenty of power, and visibility is excellent. The standard features and built-in quality are well thought out for a truck. Thank you for choosing this truck!

  3. Kayden Robel 2025-04-25

The 4.2L engine has a timing chain, which can save you a lot of money in the long run. Overall, I have had a great experience with my truck, having driven it for 81,000 miles without any mechanical issues. The 4.2L 6cyl engine is perfect for casual normal drivers, providing ample power for getting up to speed and passing other vehicles on the highway. While I have not towed with it, I have read that the 4.2L has plenty of towing capacity. One of the best things about the 2008 model is that it still looks modern and new. Even though my truck is only 2WD, it sits up high, providing great visibility. The cabin is also very roomy, and the ride is comfortable. I have the two regular doors and two smaller side doors that can open up if the main doors are open, which is perfect for visibility when changing lanes. There is no blind spot like the lowest base model with no extra door and small window to see through. Although there are a few issues that need to be addressed, such as the rake on the truck tilting forward and rain collecting in the bed of the truck, I still think this truck is awesome. In the long run, rust could become a major problem for this truck. However, I live in Arizona and my truck is rust-free. Although, the winter rain and summer monsoons we get collects in the bed forward towards the cab, which is not ideal. There is a bed liner, but the factory bed liner has large access holes on the sides near the bottom. Rain gets in there and I know the water is sitting. I'm actually afraid to take the bed liner off to see what has resulted. The A/C on my truck blows cold and the fan is great. Every time the A/C kicks on, I can hear a slight squeal coming from the engine compartment, but so far it has gone on for a couple of years now and the A/C still works fine. The belt seems tight, so this might be something for buyers to look for on used models. All the dash cluster lights go out sometimes at night, but if I whack the top of the dash real hard, they come back on...sometimes. A Ford mechanic at a dealership near me said it is a common problem and there's no fix other than banging real hard on the top of the dash. Some drink holders would have been nice on that fold-down middle front seat which I keep down all the time. There is a retracting flimsy plastic double drink holder that comes out of the center of the dash, but it's cumbersome to use and may not be usable for stick shift models. Unfortunately, there is no AUX or USB on my model. If you want that, you'll have to upgrade the stereo or buy a model that has it. As for repairs, the only thing I have had to repair was the rear axle, which was slightly bent causing a vibration. I think that was from pulling out of parking lots and the rear right side skipping off the curb in tight situations. I treat my truck very well, but a few times I've had the rear right side roll off the curb turning out into traffic. It only happened a few times, so I was surprised to see the axle was bent. Runs smooth after my repair, and I'm super careful now.If you're looking to buy a truck, I would suggest going for the F150 with power windows and door locks. If you have the space, I highly recommend getting the model with the fold-down rear bench, as it adds a lot of versatility. When I was researching engines, I found that the 4.2L 6cyl had great reviews and a timing chain that should last the lifetime of the truck, which is a great feature to have in Arizona where trucks can easily go beyond 200,000 miles. My own F150, a 1995 model with a 4.9L 300ci 6cyl and timing chain, has 170,000 rust-free miles on it.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my truck since moving to the mountains. After the first snow, I quickly realized that a 4 X 4 was a must-have. We ended up getting the SuperCrew for the kids and the tow package for our trailers, and I have to say, it's been great so far! It tows our 24 ft travel trailer with ease and remains stable on and off the road, whether we're going high speed or low. Plus, it's super comfortable and reliable. The only thing I would change is the transmission - I'd love a 6 speed. But other than that, it's been a fantastic pickup. Last winter, we even had 60 inches of snow in one storm, and I was able to get to work every day without needing chains. Thanks for listening!

I'm so glad you chose this truck with 195000 miles! It sounds like you've taken great care of it by replacing the serpentine belt, fuel sending unit (which is known to fail), and fuel pump. Even though it's a base model truck, the interior comfort is amazing with large seats and good arm support. The only downside is that it only has three cupholders. However, the MPG is very impressive for a full-sized truck with the V6 and manual 5-speed. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
