2006 Ford F-150 problems
The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.
History
The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.
The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.
The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).
Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

Common 2006 Ford F-150 problems
The Ford F-150 is a popular pickup truck, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. One of the most frequently reported issues is a rough idle, which could be caused by the EGR sensor sticking. This problem is caused by the EGR valve remaining slightly open, and the valve and sensor must be replaced to correct this issue, typically costing around $200.
Another common problem reported by Ford F-150 owners is little or no heat in the cabin, which has been reported by over 400 owners. This issue could be caused by several factors, including air door actuator failure, low coolant level, thermostat malfunction, and improper coolant flow through the heater core. The diagnostic cost for this issue averages $88 to $111, and repair costs could be higher if the problem is more severe than low coolant levels.
One of the most severe common problems reported by Ford F-150 owners is the ejection of spark plugs from the cylinder head, which has been reported by nearly 180 owners. This problem occurs because the threads on the cylinder head are too short or soft, and pressure from the combustion inside the chamber overwhelms the threads and destroys them. This issue typically requires the replacement of the cylinder head, which costs about $250.
In addition to these common problems, Ford F-150 owners have reported issues with the alternator belt, automatic transmission, ball joints, hard starting, and suspension problems. These issues are more common in certain model years than others, and it's essential to be aware of these common problems when purchasing a used Ford F-150.
In summary, the Ford F-150 is a reliable and popular pickup truck, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. These issues include a rough idle, little or no heat in the cabin, and the ejection of spark plugs from the cylinder head. It's essential to be aware of these common problems when purchasing a used Ford F-150 and to budget for potential repairs.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-03-02
- VIN: 1FTPX14516N
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The door latch on the back suicide opening doors on my F150 stopped working. We had a passenger in the back seat but when they tried to get out the door would not open. The latch had stopped working. Though they were able to get out through the other side, this is a very dangerous situation. Where we in an accident with the possibility of fire or the door would not open for the fire and rescue squad it could have been life threatening. Soon after this incident the other side did the same thing. Now both door latches do not work. How much worse would that have been if an accident would have happened and both doors stopped working. I cannot find a better example of poor safety design and safety threat than this situation. From what I can find there is no recall for the door latch failure on the Ford trucks with the suicide doors on the Ford cabs. The truck is still in this state because we cannot afford to get it fixed and yes it is available for inspection. I described above just how the safety of my passengers were put at risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, but the problem is well known, all you have to do is search the internet for this door lock failure Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? NO, the failure happened all of a sudden and without warning. The same failure happened a few weeks later on the opposite side door latch with the same problem. If I would have had a passenger in the back at that time and gotten in an accident this could have been a life threatening situation. There would have been no way for the person of persons to get out of the back seat due to neither door opening.

I was lucky no one was coming the opposite direction on the 2 lane road cause I wouldn't have been able to control truck even at 40mph, another 5min and I would have been on the interstate going 65mph and surely I'd be dead. After a week I was able to go out and look at my truck thats when I noticed the flat front passenger tire was flat and the inner ring of the rim came off. I had an accident investigator look at it , I hired a lawyer and a metallurgical expert to examine rim. There was no warning the rims were still new.

You made a great choice when you bought this truck! It's amazing that it's still running strong after 11 years and 154k miles. I completely understand why you don't want to get a new one, especially since you've taken such good care of it with routine maintenance. It's impressive that you've only had to deal with the original spark plugs and a passenger side front wheel bearing issue. You made a smart decision to change both front wheel bearings at the same time with new hubs. It's great that you took care of all the U joints and the rear drive shaft as well. I'm sure the 17 inch custom wheels and tires, 4 inch lift, and new sound system make it even better. You truly have the best truck on the market!

Very nice and comfortable truck. You'll love the formal exterior, but it was the interior that eventually sold me. I have the tan leather and the flow-through console, and I absolutely love it! This truck drives very nicely. The ride on the highway is firm, but not annoying, and despite this truck's large size, it is very manageable in town.

This is my first full-size truck and I must say, it's amazing! It handles better than my 00 Escort ZX2, 04 Ranger, and even my husband's 10 Civic Si and 04 Trailblazer! The truck is solid, smooth, and quiet, making for a comfortable ride. It easily pulls a 20' boat and a 3-horse trailer. Although the bed is a little small, I was able to fit a 2010 Rancher in the bed with an extender and tie downs. I can also haul 15 hay bales or a 5' round bale easily. The cab is very roomy, and even my 6'3 hubby has no complaints. We were able to fit 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 80 lb dogs, 2 car seats, and snacks easily! The truck handles great on every type of surface or grade, and I have never needed any type of work done on it. Everything runs perfectly!

You have a 5.4l engine. That's great! You upgraded to a longer warranty, which is a smart move. It's nice to know that you can rely on your vehicle. Despite its huge size, it's surprisingly easy to drive. You mentioned that your gas mileage has been about the same as your previous 4l Ford Ranger, which is impressive. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Ford continues to have a 'Better Idea'. Despite not having the best engine or the most impressive interior or exterior, it remains the sales leader year in and year out. This is because of the excellent combination of comfort, power, and styling that it offers, which outshines its competition. My XLT Crew Cab with Texas and Oklahoma Package came with a power seat, mp3, 6 disc CD, running boards, 4.6L V8, automatic, keyless entry, 3 interior power points, enough room for six adults, and the ability to tow a small yacht with ease. It's not the best at anything specific, but it's the best overall because of the package.

I bought this truck with 136,000 km on it. I needed something reliable for work, and the truck was great. Its motor ran smoothly and everything was responsive. So far, I haven't had any major issues. The only complaint I have is that, for a V8 engine, it was a bit lazy. I tried replacing the spark plugs and gas filter, but the truck still moved slowly. Other than that, the truck was great. I didn't have any real problems other than basic upkeep. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who needs a solid truck.

Despite having taken my truck to two different dealerships seven times, the vibration coming from the rear end remains unfixed. The dealerships have not been able to identify any of the common F150 vibration problems. Although one service manager acknowledged that a truck that vibrates during its intended function is fundamentally flawed. The vibration worsens when I have my boat on the back. It is important to note that this vehicle may not be suitable for those who are even remotely mechanically inclined, as the bouncing exhaust, violently shaking bed, rattles, and random vibrations of many sorts can be frustrating. However, I have decided to take my truck back to the dealership and refuse to pick it up, taking the credit hit from Ford instead of dragging things out in court.

I owned a 2006 FORD F150 4X4 4.6 motor which was a great looking vehicle. I purchased it as a lease return in 2008 with only 26,000 miles on the odometer. Although I had some issues with the four wheel drive, the dealer was able to repair it for me. Unfortunately, the instrument cluster died soon after, but I was able to get a new one within two months. I also had to replace the left front vacuum operated locking hub, which was a once a year issue for me due to water and crud getting into the sealed unit. Additionally, I had to replace both front window regulators as they were squealing every time the window went up or down. The posi rear-end also stopped being posi, but the clutch disks were replaced. At about 120K miles, the alternator died on the way to work, but it was replaced. However, the truck would engage in four wheel drive all by itself and the alternator would discharge all the way. After three alternators, the issue persisted, so I decided to trade it in for a RAM. Overall, I enjoyed owning this vehicle despite the issues I faced.

I'm on my third Ford truck and I'm still impressed! I have the 06' 4 door supercab 5.4 L Triton. If you're experiencing a water leak, it's likely coming from the high mount lamp exterior. A simple bead of clear silicone around the edges of the lamp has permanently resolved this issue! Why bother with the dealership when you can easily fix it yourself? Also, make sure to use fully synthetic oil! I've heard that the 5.4 L Triton has had some problems with oil reaching the top half, but I've never experienced this issue. In fact, I've never had a single problem with any of my Ford trucks. However, I have learned a few tricks about their little quirks. These are great trucks! And come on, guys and girls, we aren't driving a 4-cylinder Toyota coupe. We're driving a 5500 lb V-8 truck, so let's not complain about gas mileage, shall we?

I purchased my 06 F150 Supercrew 4.6 litre in October of 2006. This was the first new truck I had ever owned. Unfortunately, I have been disappointed with its performance. Under normal driving conditions, the power of the 4.6 litre is adequate. However, when I hooked up my 19 ft boat, I noticed a significant decrease in power. In comparison, my Chevy never struggled with towing my boat. If you plan to haul even the smallest camper/boat, I would not recommend getting an F150 with the 4.6 litre engine. However, if you are looking for a pickup that drives like a car, then this is the truck for you. Overall, I am hoping to trade in my Ford F150 as soon as I can afford to do so.
