The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.

History

The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.

The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.

The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).

Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

Common 2007 Ford F-150 problems

The Ford F-150, a popular pickup truck, has had several issues reported by its owners over the years. One of the most common problems is a rough idle, which could be caused by the EGR sensor sticking. This symptom is caused by the EGR valve remaining slightly open, leading to an illuminated 'check engine' light and misfiring at all speeds. Replacing the EGR valve and sensor typically costs around $200.

Another common issue is the ejection of spark plugs from the cylinder head, which is more serious and could lead to costly repairs. This problem occurs due to the threads on the cylinder head being too short or soft, causing pressure from the combustion inside the chamber to overwhelm the threads and destroy them. Replacing the cylinder head costs approximately $250, but in some models, an updated spark plug design can fix the issue.

A lack of heat in the cabin is another common problem, affecting over 400 owners. This issue could be caused by air door actuator failure, low coolant level, thermostat malfunction, or improper coolant flow through the heater core. The diagnostic cost for this problem averages between $88 and $111.

The 2004-2008 models of the F-150 have experienced issues with their V8 Triton engines, particularly with spark plugs breaking off during removal. This problem is among the costliest of repair expenses associated with the F-Series.

In the mid-2000s, Ford received a slew of customer complaints about corroded auto parts on its new models, particularly on the hoods of 2000-2007 F-150s. Corrosion has also been an issue for fuel tank straps in some trucks, leading to a recall of the 2004 Heritage edition F-150s due to tanks dropping off and disconnections between the tank and the fuel line.

Airbag deployment issues have also been reported, affecting 2005-2006 models of the truck. The abrupt, undesired deployment of the driver-side airbag led to a recall of over 144,000 trucks. If purchasing a used 2005-2006 F-150, it is crucial to ensure that this recall was addressed.

Drivers of 2004 and 2005 F-150s reported a problem concerning windows, with power regulators on door-side windows failing, causing window panes to drop into the doors or become stuck or make a grinding noise.

Problems with the cam phaser have also been reported, with signs including sounds that resemble clicks and knocks coming from the engine. At the time, Ford dealers allegedly claimed the sounds indicated nothing problematic about the engine, causing drivers to ignore the issue, leading to engine failures.

In summary, the Ford F-150 has had several issues over the years, including rough idles, spark plug ejections, lack of heat in the cabin, corroded auto parts, airbag deployment issues, window component failures, cam phaser problems, and transmission failures. While the F-150 has been a top-selling truck for decades, it is essential to be aware of these common problems, especially when considering purchasing a used model.

Ford is very aware of this ongoing issue and denies any liability experts don’t agree with fords arguments. No warning the plugs start to blow out at around 140000 miles well after the warranty. This problem started in the 90s all triton engines are affected. As in the photo the dealers attempt to repair was unsuccessful the spark plug is tightened to deep into the head and is broken off. Negative 2007 Ford F-150 car reviews

  1. Camren Bashirian 2025-01-03

Overall, I'm glad I bought this truck. I have the SXT model and it has enough power to pull trailers with wood or boats, etc. I opted for the rubber floor and cloth interior, along with roll down windows. The only extras I added were the AC and cruise control.

  2. Rosendo Rice 2024-10-26

Ford must repair my 2007 F-150. Despite the service department from two different dealers and a Ford 'engineer' inspecting the vehicle, they have failed to identify the raucous clicking noise coming from the engine. Ford's response that 'this is as good as it gets' is unacceptable. I am unable to sell my truck due to the noise, and I regret purchasing it. I strongly advise against buying a 5.4 liter 3 valve V-8 engine truck from Ford. We demand a resolution to this issue.

  3. Arnold Hill 2024-10-18

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to let you know that I've owned three f150s and have always been a fan. However, with my most recent purchase, I noticed a tapping noise coming from the engine at around 16000 miles. When I brought it to the dealer's attention, they said it was the fuel injectors, but I had never heard noisy fuel injectors before. As winter arrived, the noise only got louder, especially when I pressed the accelerator. After a week of tests, the dealer called in their Ford rep who advised me that this is a characteristic of the f150. Unfortunately, the salesperson didn't mention this to me when I made the purchase. When I asked about what other characteristics I could expect in the future, they didn't have an answer. I appreciate your time and attention to this matter.

Great truck! It's fun to drive and very reliable. Overall, the F-150 is the reason why Ford is the number one truck seller in the nation.

I strongly believe that my 2007 Ford F150 STX 4.6L should not shake so badly at idle that I have to put a pillow behind my back, and stall several times. While Ford claims that this is a natural characteristic of the truck, I disagree. I urge Ford to recall and fix the design flaw that is causing this issue.

I have been a loyal customer of Nissan, Toyota, and Honda for the past 30 years. However, I recently purchased an American-built truck, the Lariat, and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed. During my drive from Wyoming to Arizona, the truck performed beautifully, providing a smooth and comfortable ride. Despite its weight, I was able to achieve an impressive 19 MPG. While I loved my Honda Ridgeline, I have decided to sell it as I feel much safer on the serious 4x4 road in my new Ford. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend the Lariat to anyone in the market for a new truck.

This truck is amazing! It's so much fun to drive and just sitting in it with the sunroof, leather seats, and all the chrome and Harley emblems makes me feel like I'm on my Harley Davidson Roadking! The rumble of the stock exhaust just adds to the feeling! It handles great and runs well with the standard 5.4 engine. Everyone gives it a second look on the road. I have no complaints here. Fuel mileage isn't great, but who cares when you feel good about your ride!

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your truck! It's unfortunate that you had a screw lodged in your tire tread, but I'm happy to hear that the new tire pressure gauge system was able to detect it and get it fixed right away. It sounds like the truck rides like a car and feels fairly safe, which is great to hear. And of course, getting a good price is always a bonus! Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

I'm so glad to hear that you've been enjoying your truck for almost three years now! It sounds like it's been a reliable and capable vehicle for you, which is great to hear. I'm also happy to hear that the one repair you needed was taken care of quickly and effectively. It's great that your truck is able to handle your surfcasting needs with ease. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us!

I bought this truck new and have only had two issues. The brakes needed to be replaced at only 28,000 miles. The big issue is a loud noise coming from the front left tire that sounds like metal pieces bouncing around a metal drum. It has only happened twice and by the time I stop, it goes away. Upon researching online, I found that a lot of people have experienced the same problem. Fortunately, mine is getting fixed as I write this. It turns out that it's the 4x4 system and the vacuum line blows, causing the gears to partially connect, but it does not happen constantly. Most people think it's the brakes, but I'm glad to have found the real issue. Overall, I'm totally happy with my truck, but I was surprised to find out that so many people out there have had this problem. I'm currently at 30,000 miles now.
