The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.
The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.
The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).
Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

I am pleased to report that this is only the second new vehicle out of six that I have purchased which did not require any follow-up work or minor repairs in the first few weeks of ownership. The gas mileage is better than expected and the vehicle is both comfortable and quiet. It handles and corners exceptionally well for a full-size pickup, with smooth shifting and minimal vibration. The LED radio/phone/nav display in the center of the dash has had a minor issue a few times, but it is easily reset and does not affect the overall performance of the vehicle. I am thoroughly enjoying my truck and wish I had purchased one years ago instead of my previous SUVs. With a topper and raised platform for camping, it has proven to be a versatile and reliable vehicle. I have achieved impressive gas mileage, with a high of 24.1 mpg on a flat country road and an average of 18 to 19 mpg overall for my normal driving. Even on a 1,500-mile interstate trip at high speeds, I still managed to average 21 mpg. Overall, I am confident in the quality and performance of this vehicle.I am pleased to report that the fuel efficiency exceeded my expectations by more than one mpg.

I recently upgraded my truck from a 2013 F-150 xlt to a brand new 2016 model. Although I didn't necessarily need a new truck, the local dealer was offering such a great deal that I couldn't resist. As someone who has always preferred V8 engines, I was initially hesitant to test drive the new 2.7 Eco boost. However, I was pleasantly surprised by its performance and power. In fact, it even outperforms my old V8 5.0! While I've only driven 200 miles so far, I'm hopeful that the engine will prove to be just as reliable as my old one. Additionally, the truck's appearance has received many compliments from my friends, who are impressed by how plush it is. Passengers have also commented on how comfortable and smooth the ride is, with even Chevy fans admitting that they wish their trucks rode as well. For anyone considering the 2.7 eco boost, I highly recommend taking it for a test drive. Despite the engine not being fully broken in yet, I've already been getting an impressive 24 mpg on my commute through the winding mountain roads of West Virginia.

Hello! I wanted to share my thoughts on the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost. I opted for the Platinum 4WD SuperCrew with the optional 701A equipment group, because I absolutely love adaptive (radar based) cruise control. It performs much better than the laser(?) based one on my 2015 Toyota Sequoia Platinum. As a Chevrolet owner for 22+ years, I never cared for Ford interior, but I finally found one I love enough to buy. Overall, I really like this vehicle. However, there are a few things I wish they would slightly change: 1) It would be great if the adaptive hi-beam headlights only operated when switched to hi beams. I can over-ride it when it is constantly switching in an urban environment by turning off adaptive hi-beams in the setup, or by turning the knob to just It can be frustrating to have a gear label located next to the shifter without an indicator showing which gear you are in or a physical jog to help you shift into the correct gear. Especially in the dark, it can be difficult to tell if the truck is in Drive, Neutral, or Manual when engaging. My Chrysler had a shifter that only went from Park to Reverse to Neutral to Drive, which made it easier to shift into Manual with up and down shifts. However, this truck has a soft clicking line with P-R-N-D-M-2-1, and it's easy to accidentally go past Drive without a cue, unless you look up at the instrument panel. :)

I have a Lariat 5.5 crew with 3.5 ecoboost, which oddly isn't on the trim list. It's equipped like a Limited and I ordered it for towing. It's not a boulevard girly pickup, but a nice platinum white one with pulling power. It doesn't have a sunroof, but that's okay because I don't need it and it weakens the roof in a rollover. The pickup drives serenely and is vault quiet. It's nice to drive, but has a less turning circle than my 2011 XLT 5.5 crew and the front seats were better in the 2011. The Goodyear model tires named 'Fortitude' model are way too soft 5 ply and present a jittery ride with sloppy control. So, I traded them for Michelin Defenders LTX MS (new 2016 model) range load E and it's a changed pickup. It's more settled and planted on the road with zero jittery ride. Much better handling and cornering. The ride is a bit more firm due to the E load range tires, but this is the tire for this pickup, especially if you want to tow. Tires matter always, and tire pressure too. I'm elated so far and looking forward to driving my pickup and pulling my trailer. I would seriously recommend looking at the Fords as their safety is top-rated and build quality is outstanding. I've owned two Ford F150s in the last 15 years and all were good to me. By the way, drive the turbo with reason, check tire pressures often and you'll get decent economy. Forget good gas mileage when you tow, 10 is normal. Also, use premium fuel as Ford recommends when towing. You have the engine, use it to its maximum capability, you paid for it!

From the very beginning, I knew that I wanted the outgoing model year (2016) F150 Super Crew to take advantage of better incentives and dealer pricing. However, it took me almost a full month to review and decide on the features, options, and especially the interior and exterior colors. Once I decided to buy a new truck, I flew over 500 miles to buy from McDavid Ford in Fort Worth Texas, and the drive back home convinced me that I made the right decision. Although I had always driven trucks powered by V8's, I was nervous when I began to consider a smaller engine. However, after driving a friend's 2.7L Ecoboost, I was quite surprised and ultimately decided to purchase it. On my 8 plus hour drive home, I would have never known it was not a V-8 under the hood. While I don't always go for all the bells and whistles, I went with the 302A package primarily to get heated seats (great for my back on long trips) and the backup sensors (which I think ought to be required on every vehicle, especially on trucks and SUVs due to the obstructed rear view. The camera system is great too, but that beep system, in my opinion, is even better). After 2 years and approximately 20k miles on my truck, I have had no mechanical issues to date. The only disappointment to date is where I have a few scratches on the exterior body that I believe occurred while going through a car wash (which makes me wonder if the paint on the aluminum body scratches easily).

I recently purchased a 2016 F-150 King Ranch with the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost and was excited to experience the new truck feeling. However, I encountered some issues with the brakes failing due to brake fluid leakage from the master cylinder into the brake booster. This is a very dangerous defect that Ford has known about for four years and has even recalled 2013 and 2014 models for the same issue. Although my truck was repaired under warranty, it is concerning that such a dangerous defect was allowed to persist for so long. In addition to this, I also experienced defects with the interior console, chrome grille, and excessive wind noise. Despite Ford's claim that customer satisfaction is their number one goal, I was disappointed with their lack of customer appreciation. When trying to get warranty service performed, the dealership was forced to go through a prior approval process where someone sitting in Ford's corporate offices looked for every way possible to deny a warranty claim. The dealer had no recourse when a warranty claim was denied except to pay for the repair out of their own pocket. When calling their Customer Relationship Center, I spoke with an unknowledgeable representative who could do nothing to help me except say they were sorry. I hope that Ford can improve their quality and customer service in the future.The dealer initially agreed to cover the damage to my truck's grille and even ordered a replacement. However, when they submitted the claim for prior approval, it was denied by Ford corporate, citing that the damage was caused by a solvent and should have been noted at the time of delivery or submitted within a week to be covered. Unfortunately, the defect is not easily noticeable on cursory inspection due to the chrome surface. While I understand that it was my mistake to assume it would be covered by warranty, I do feel that Ford could have been more considerate given the cost of the truck. As someone who has purchased many new vehicles from different brands, I have never received such poor treatment with regard to warranty service. This is my first Ford and I hope my experience with this truck improves dramatically. If you're in the market for a new truck, I would recommend considering a Sierra or Silverado, which are comparably equipped and cost $3,000 - $5,000 less. I believe you'll be treated more like an appreciated customer.

I am sorry to hear about the issues you have been experiencing with your F-150. It must be frustrating to have taken it to two dealerships and still not have the issue resolved. I understand that the odor is unpleasant and can be compared to the smell of a wet dog. It is disappointing that the regional service manager, TJ, did not seem to care about your situation. I traded in my 2016 F15 for a 2012 model and was pleasantly surprised by how much better it handled, rode, and towed my travel trailer. However, I did notice that the shift points could use some improvement. While the truck came with a tow package, the lack of a locking rear end and the low load rating on the tires made it a bit of a handling nightmare when towing my 28ft travel trailer. Overall, I was disappointed with this aspect of the truck and it ultimately led me to switch to a different brand.

The tailgate of my truck won't open when it's cold out, and I suspect there's an issue with the lock. Unfortunately, the truck doesn't perform well in the snow unless it's in 4-wheel drive. In light snow, it slides all over the place, which is a shame because my previous 2014 FX4 with the old body did just fine. The extra 1000 pounds in the new model make it less efficient, and the aluminum body is not as tough as advertised, denting easily. While I love Ford, I may consider a Chevy or GMC for my next vehicle. The 2016 model has fewer options than the previous FX4, such as the folding mirrors, which are a hassle when going to the car wash. Overall, Ford has missed the mark with the 2016 model.
