The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.

History

The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.

The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.

The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).

Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

SEAT BELTS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2001-11-30
  • VIN: 1FTZX17221N
  • Components: SEAT BELTS
  • Summary: Whoever tested our seatbelts on this vehicle years ago at the Ford dealership in Florence, Alabama did not do a good test. When me or my husband are driving the driver side seatbelt will release and we have to pull over to fasten it back again. It will do this several times while driving, which is a safety hazard. It has to be a defect in the connection of the seatbelt. The one on the passenger side works and have not had any problems with it coming undone. It is only the one on the driver's side that wants to come undone while driving. We will put it on and tug on it and it stays but when driving it will not stay fastened long. When they did the test at the Ford dealer in Florence, Alabama many years ago, all they did was fasten it without sitting in the seat and tug on it a few times and said it passed. We then moved to Texas in November of 2001 and on the way there it started releasing going down the road. Since the seatbelt was tested back then we were not sure if we could get it tested again for that purpose. Is there anything we can do to get this fixed even though we had it tested already once before?

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-04-04
  • VIN: 1FTRW07L41K
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: WE PURCHASED OUR 2001 F150 SUPERCREW USED. I AM A MECHANIC, SO THE FIRST THING I DO WHEN BUYING A USED VEHICLE IS INSPECT IT THOROUGHLY. THERE WERE A FEW MINOR ISSUES, BUT ONE STOOD OUT AS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, IT SEEMS TO BE EXTREMELY COMMON TO ALL 1997-2003 F-150S. SYMPTOMS - THIS ISSUE MAINLY AFFECTS THE REAR LEFT AND RIGHT BRAKE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, AND HAZARD LIGHTS. THESE LIGHTS, PARTICULARLY BRAKE LIGHTS, CAN CEASE TO FUNCTION ENTIRELY, INTERMITTENTLY AND UNKNOWN TO THE DRIVER. CAUSE - THERE IS A WIRE HARNESS WHICH CONNECTS TO THE "MULTI - FUNCTION SWITCH". THIS WIRE HARNESS IS PULLED WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TILTED DOWN. AS A RESULT, THE CONNECTOR OR INDIVIDUAL TERMINALS CAN BECOME LOOSE OR DISCONNECTED. THIS PROBLEM IS MOST PREVALENT WITH THE STEERING WHEEL IN THE DOWN POSITION, BUT ONCE LOOSE CAN HAPPEN AT ANY POSITION AND ANY DRIVING SITUATION. SOLUTION - REPAIR OR REPLACE WITH MOTORCRAFT PART# WPT607, AND ENSURE THE HARNESS HAS ENOUGH SLACK TO ALLOW STEERING WHEEL TILT WITHOUT TENSION ON THE HARNESS. IN OUR CASE, I REPLACED THE CONNECTOR AND PULLED THE WIRES ENOUGH TO ALLOW SLACK FOR STEERING WHEEL TILT. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE ONLINE, AND IT IS WELL DOCUMENTED BY F150 OWNERS. I HAVE PICTURES BUT THE FILE SIZES ARE OVER 5MB.

Negative 2001 Ford F-150 car reviews

  1. Darian Morissette 2024-11-21

The 2001 truck model has been known to have reliability issues, with frequent replacements needed and leaks in oil, water, and transmission fluid. The check engine light is also a common issue. However, it is important to note that this model's shortcomings have led to improvements in the truck market, with increased sales for foreign brands like Toyota. It is clear that this model has had a significant impact on the industry.

  2. Marlon Wisoky 2024-06-12

This truck has been so reliable and great looking, I hate to trade it in for another one. The radio has a rich sound, and I just put the 3rd set of tires on it at 110,000 miles. I have not done any suspension work except shocks. I have used synthetic oil every 6,000 miles and have never had to add any oil between changes. It's like a good friend.

  3. Karl Zemlak 2024-05-21

I bought this truck to haul bikes, go camping, and do some off-roading. After owning a Jeep Wrangler, I realized that a truck can't off-road as well. I was originally looking for a Tacoma or Titan, but a friend's dad who owned a lot got me a great deal on this F150. I haven't had any major issues, but sometimes a spark plug blows when I give it a good wash. Also, every time I get the front brakes done, a bolt backs out while I'm in motion. Thankfully, it's a quick catch and nothing bad has happened while I've been driving. The gas mileage is pretty bad, and I'm lucky to get 10 miles to the gallon. Additionally, the stereo volume sometimes goes up when I turn it down and vice versa.

Positive 2001 Ford F-150 car reviews

  1. Hester Maggio 2024-11-25

I purchased the 100,000 mile, 60 month ESP plan. With 48,000 miles driven, I have not yet needed to use the extended warranty. The truck has been very sturdy and capable of hauling heavy loads and towing my 16' trailer with my tractor on it without any effort. I use the truck on a farm and for hauling lumber. I am very satisfied with my F-150 and would gladly buy another one. However, I would like to have power to both rear wheels.

  2. Kale Goodwin 2024-11-05

I absolutely adore this truck! I ordered it brand new with all the features I wanted, and even after a decade, I still receive compliments whenever I gas up or park somewhere. The only repair I've had to make was an intake manifold gasket, which should have been a one-time fix, but the dealer failed to replace the bolts at the time. I did have to replace the brakes once, but that's just standard maintenance for any vehicle. I plan on keeping this truck for a long time to come. It's especially enjoyable to drive in the snow, as it sits so high. My wife does complain that it's a bit difficult to get into, but I find that adds to its charm. Overall, these trucks are incredibly durable and reliable - truly bulletproof!

  3. Julien Hahn 2024-11-02

I recently purchased a FORD F150 with 224,000 miles on it. I am happy to report that the engine, transmission, interior, and exterior are all original and in great condition. I am amazed that after now 226,000 miles, it is still running strong. The inside is well laid out and I love my captain chairs, sunroof, and leather seats. The view from up there is amazing. I currently have a 3 inch lift on it and everyone who has seen it has complimented me on how good it looks. That's not an overstatement. The paint has a few scratches and is gone in a couple places, but the drive train and everything else is working solid. They aren't kidding when they say Ford TOUGH!

  4. Murl Breitenberg 2024-11-01

This is going to be my third F150 and I must say, Ford has finally nailed it this time! The Harley F150 Crew Cab is an amazing looking truck and it's an absolute joy to drive. My wife keeps trying to steal it from me. The only downside is that whenever you take it out for a spin, you end up attracting a crowd.

  5. Lemuel Lehner 2024-10-21

I'm so glad to hear that you love your truck! It sounds like it's been a great vehicle for you, perfect for light duty activities like hunting, towing a boat or trailer, and hauling various materials. With its 4 door super crew cab and bed extender, it's also a great choice for road trips, easily accommodating an average size family, gear, and even a furry friend. And it's great to hear that it handles well off road and has been built to a high standard of quality.
