The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.
The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.
The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).
Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

I spent some time reviewing the trucks of the Big 3 online. However, after talking to many of my friends and family who currently own one, I narrowed it down to the F-150. I couldn't find anyone who had much negative to say about them. Most people loved their Ford 150, even if it was several years old.

I've owned many trucks over the years, including several Chevrolet and GMC pick-ups. Although I've never had a Ram, my father and father-in-law have F-150 trucks. Recently, I sold my GMC Sierra SLT 4WD Crew Cab and bought a 2017 F-150 Platinum 4WD SuperCrew with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 and new 10-speed transmission. Let me tell you, this truck is the fanciest and nicest truck I have ever been in! It's even nicer than the vast majority of Mercedes and BMW cars. The engine has gobs of power, it's very quiet, and the material quality used throughout is awesome. Although it is expensive, I was lucky enough to find a dealer that gave me a steep discount (Long-Lewis Ford in Muscle Shoals, AL). Trust me, this is one amazing truck! I would rather travel down the highway in this thing than a Cadillac!

I had an accident and totaled my 2013 Platinum after falling asleep at the wheel. Thankfully, the truck kept me safe and I knew that Ford was the way to go. I upgraded to a Lariat with the 3.5L V6 and 10-speed transmission and it's been a step up from my previous truck. It has everything the Platinum had and much more. As someone who does a lot of freeway driving, I appreciate how easy and safe it is to enter the 75 MPH line of traffic with the 3.5L V6 and 10-speed. It's quick and I feel confident on the road. I even added a spray-in, a Tonneau top, and power running boards to make it feel like a royal limo. In the initial 1500 miles, I'm getting an average of 20.8 mpg, which is up 5 mpg from my 2013 Platinum. I can't say enough good things about this truck. It's quick, quiet, comfortable, well-appointed, and has so many great features like auto high beams, improved rear camera, and voice-activated navigation. After 25,000 miles, my appreciation for this F150 has only grown. I especially appreciate the quick acceleration from the entrance ramp to the line of traffic and the yellow warning light in the side mirror that helps me avoid accidents with vehicles in my blind spot. Safety enhancements like these are overdue and worthwhile. Even after an accident with a six-point buck, the Henson Ford Body Shop did an amazing job repairing the damage. I can't even tell it ever happened. This Ford is truly a dream and I'm so glad I chose it. Note: I wasn't given the option to choose the 3.5L V6 Ecoboost when selecting the model, but that's the engine this truck has.

I purchased this vehicle primarily to use as a tow truck for my boat, which weighs around 3,000 lbs. Additionally, I wanted a comfortable and reliable vehicle for long road trips. As a retired individual with a second daily driver, fuel efficiency was not a major concern. I opted for the XLT Supercrew with the 3.5 liter Ecoboost, 10 speed auto, 4WD, 302A, tow and off-road packages. The off-road package was particularly appealing to me as it provided more ground clearance and prevented scraping on my driveway. Although I am a 72 year old retired teacher and do not typically go off-road, I wanted to be prepared for any situation. Recently, I found myself in some deceptively deep, very loose sand, but was relieved when I put the truck in 4WD and drove right out. The truck also handled any boat launch I've ever used with ease. It has 20 inch tires, a class IV hitch, and a 36 gallon gas tank. After driving for almost 5 years, with a 7,220 mile road trip, 3-4 others in the 4-5,000 mile range and probably a dozen thousand mile long round trip tows, I am still very pleased with my purchase. Although the 3.5 liter Ecoboost is powerful, I might consider the 2.7 liter Ecoboost for my next purchase as it is more economical and better suited for my needs. During my last trip, the truck got 22.1 mpg on a 7.I've taken my truck on road trips of 500+ miles with the original tires and have consistently gotten 20-21 mpg. After switching to the General AT/X tires, I've driven over 40,000 miles and still get the same great gas mileage. When towing my boat, I get 16-18 mpg, which is still impressive. The truck is very comfortable and rides well, although it can be a bit harsh when unloaded. However, the noise level is very low, even at speeds of 80-85 mph, allowing you to enjoy music or have a conversation with your passenger. The instrument panel is adequate and the Synch 3 system is great - very intuitive. The stereo system sounds fantastic and can play a wide range of music genres, from classic rock and roll to classical and space music. Overall, it's a great truck!

I recently purchased my first Ford and was torn between the Tundra and F150. While the Tundra is beautiful, it rides a little bulky and lags in technology. On the other hand, the F150 just glides when you drive it and has bright and easy-to-use instrument panels. The power and USB options are everywhere you look, making for a very comfortable ride. Although there is often a vibration, it's important to remember that I live in Georgia where the roads aren't great and I'm driving a truck. The gas mileage is pretty decent for a truck this size, averaging 16-17 in the city. Even though I installed a Roush intake and Flowmaster super 40 9I test drove an EcoBoost 10-speed and felt some jerking on and off. However, I still love my truck and I am very happy I went with Ford. I have received a lot of compliments on how nice the truck rides and how comfortable it is. We'll see how it performs at 10k miles!

I recently purchased a 2017 Ford Raptor that I special ordered and waited for about 8 months to receive. At first, I absolutely loved the truck! However, after putting 13,000 miles of dirt/commuting miles on it, I started hearing a loud noise when it was downshifting and climbing small hills. For some reason, it would only do it occasionally, but eventually, it started making the noise all the time. I have taken it to the dealership four times now, and it has been in the shop for a total of 25 days, but unfortunately, they have not been able to figure out what the noise is. Although I am disappointed, I will continue to go back to the dealership until they can resolve this issue. In my experience, I would suggest being cautious when considering purchasing one.

Update: Hi there! Just wanted to let you know that the truck currently has 48k miles and unfortunately, there have been no changes in the clunk. Even the 2020 10 speed F150s seem to experience this issue. I was really excited to get my brand new F150 with the 3.5 twin turbo and ten-speed tranny. However, within a week of taking it home, I noticed significant rust on several drivetrain components and on the rear differential. I went to the dealer and asked how a brand new car could have embedded rust already on it. They said not to worry, that it's normal on all their new trucks. They referenced the rust that you see on brake pads when a vehicle sits for a long period of time, but this comparison is not accurate. The rust everywhere else simply gets much worse over time, while the rust on brake pads disappears the next time you use your brakes. I did not realize until later the document they had me sign regarding future rust issues. A knowledgeable person told me that Ford decided to lower their use of environmentally unfriendly paint, which has dramatically reduced rust protection on the metal frame and other underbody components. Two months in and there are now new spots of rust. It's really disappointing to have to deal with this on a new expensive truck. I hope Ford can address this issue soon. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I recently bought my 2017 F150 in April of 2021 and traded in my previous vehicle for something bigger. Although I love everything about the engine (2.7L EcoBoost), the ride, and the smoothness, I have had one thing that concerned me. Whenever I approach a stop sign or red light, my vehicle tends to “jerk” or “clunk” right before coming to a stop. I can hear and feel it, and it can be more noticeable at times. I have brought it to dealerships and other shops, but unfortunately, no one has been able to replicate the issue, which can be frustrating. I hope it's not the (6 speed) transmission, but it might be the slip yoke. It would be great if Ford could address these small problems with their otherwise excellent trucks.

I recently traded in my 2017 F150 with the Ecoboost and ten-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the plastic oil pan and valve cover, which required repairs. Additionally, there were several recalls for cam phasers and door latch and lock problems. While the truck drove well when it was running, I believe it would have been better suited with a V8 and six-speed transmission.
