2005 Ford F-150 problems
The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.
History
The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.
The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.
The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).
Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

I condemned the vehicle and took it off the road. Further investigation showed this was a very widely known problem and contested Issue. I have undercoated this truck many times over the years and it was very clean. I. Have never received any notice from Ford about this well documented problem. The proprietor of [XXX] Welding says he's done over 40 F 150's for the same problem with the frames. My mechanic, [XXX], at Shaw's Automotive, says he's seen F 150's that have collapsed around a lift when they were in for a simple oil change. The internet states this is a common issue with F 150's. SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY! These trucks should not be on the road until Ford repairs them or buys them back, like Toyota did in the 90's!!!! INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

- Summary: This and many other trucks of this generation have major frame rot issues due to the box frame. The rest of my truck looks excellent but the frame is so bad its most likely not repairable. I am not the only one with this major safety issue. Its only a 16 year old truck. Thankfully I have not towed or put a large load in the bed or else it could split in half. I wash my car seasonally and pressure wash off rust every spring. Yet the frame has rotted so badly they could not put it on a lift to do the alignment. I love this truck and I'm a big fan of the f150 line as a whole. Ford should take responsibility as Toyota has and fix their customers frames from this generation. I love ford but its always interesting walking through a parking lot and seeing every 04-08 f150 with major frame rot. Without fail every single one has that issue. Seems to me like they didn't properly galvanize and protect the steel. I am now needing to do a bed off frame restoration since no shop will take it on. This truck that should be going for $5k with this insane used car market. (August 3rd 2020) yet it is max $200 in scrap. Bad / cheap engineering should not be the owners responsibility. Yet that is what it has come to. It was most likely an honest unforseen mistake on their part. Overengineering the rigidity but ignoring the long term effects. Short term strength for log term pain as is commonly said with these trucks. I'm sure in a few years time these will just start breaking in half over bumps on the freeway. I beg and encourage ford to fix this before people die. I doubt ford wants another pr fiasco like the pinto. Hopefully they will do a cost analysis and realize that a recall is a much better option. Seem like 250-500k a pop for settlements for the most popular truck of all time is much much more than 5k per affected vehicle. Not including the long term dip in sales. So unless they want the other brands to win the truck war they gotta fix it. Tldr: a recall is cheaper than death.

The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the part to replace the ABS module was no longer produced by the manufacturer and was therefore unavailable for a repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 174,000.

This truck has a great exterior and interior design. However, I must say that I have experienced some major issues with the 5.3 triton and drive train after only 20000 miles. Although I enjoy driving it and receive compliments on its appearance, the ticking noise from the valve train and VCT is disappointing and seems to be a result of poor workmanship, parts, and design. It is frustrating to have to spend an additional $2000 on engine repair only four years after purchasing the vehicle for $42,000. While I rate the truck an 8.7 out of 10 for its handling and looks, I must give Ford a 3 out of 10 for not recalling the vehicle despite knowing the fix. The warranty could also be improved.

It's an older truck, but it has never let me down. Getting in it is always a joy, and I know exactly what to expect when I start it up.
-
The vehicle was very pleasing to me. I traded in my 95 XLT 5.8L for it. Although the engine was slightly weaker with the 5.4, it still performs well overall.

The FX4 has been upgraded with a leveling kit, cold intake, and Magnaflow dual exhaust. With these modifications, the throttle response has improved significantly and even the gas mileage has slightly increased.

I wasn't really planning to buy a F150, just looking around. Then a salesman came up and asked what I was looking for, and I said maybe a truck. He then asked if I had time to take one out for a ride. Yes, I do! So I took this (my) F150 King Ranch out for a spin. It was love at first ride. The interior was all leather, and it definitely had all the bells and whistles. So, I brought it right off the lot! I took a trip from Texas to Georgia and averaged between 19.8 to 20.5 mpg at 70 mph. I was happy with that, considering that this is a big truck. It can cruise at 80 mph or above easier than you may think! Don't take one for a test drive because your old truck will be jealous and worried! LOL.

I recently purchased a low mileage 4X4 with a plow that was in great condition. The vehicle has good power and interior comfort. However, I did experience an issue with both front 4 wheel drive actuators failing at only 26,800 miles. Although it would have been out of warranty due to its age, the original owner had purchased an extended warranty which was transferable with a fee and some effort. Thankfully, the issue was resolved under warranty and the parts were readily available. While this seems to be a common problem, I believe it's important to note that the issue was resolved and the truck is running well. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase.

Nice truck! I did have a bit of trouble with the engine at 3,000 miles and Ford wanted me to pay for a rental, but overall it's been a good experience. There's been some clunking from the transmission, but that's to be expected. The only issue I've had is changing the spark plugs, as they tend to snap off in the head. But all in all, I'm happy with my purchase!

After almost 3 years of ownership, I can say that the truck has been decent overall. While the mileage is 13mpg city and highway, the ride is comfortable and the truck looks nice both inside and out. Although I have experienced some issues such as a clunk in the transmission when starting from a stop, a rattling back sliding rear window (which was repaired once), a broken bracket holding the passenger front window in place (costing $425 to fix), and a CD player that had to be replaced, the truck has still been a good purchase. The brakes were replaced at 20,000 miles, but I do not drive the truck hard. The only thing that could be improved is a little more power. Overall, I have had a decent experience with this truck.

I owned this truck for 12 months and unfortunately, it has had some issues. Some of the problems I experienced include the injectors quitting, the shifter locking up, and the fuel line cracking. While waiting for parts was frustrating, the dealer was able to repair the rusting on the rear panel. However, I did not receive a call back from Ford customer service. Although the truck occasionally turns off while running, I believe there are other options to consider. Perhaps waiting for the new Toyota Tundra this summer or looking at Nissan would be a good idea. It's important to weigh all options before making a decision. Thank you for considering my experience with Ford.

This has been a great work truck that has held up well over the years. Although I did encounter a few issues, such as two window regulators and some difficulty with spark plug replacement, I was able to keep up with maintenance and oil changes, which helped it run smoothly for over 182k miles. While I ultimately traded it in for a newer model, I was impressed to see that it was still running when I saw it last week. If you're in the market for a used truck, I would recommend considering a newer ecoboost or 5.0 coyote engine version. I hope this information is helpful!
