1993 Ford F-150 problems
The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.
History
The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.
The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.
The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).
Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

Common 1993 Ford F-150 problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the Ford F-150 1993, here are some common problems with this specific model:
- Alternator Belt Issues: The alternator belt in 1990 to 1994 model F-150s has been a common problem, often indicated by chirping or squealing noises from the engine. This noise signals an issue with the pulley for the air conditioner or power steering, which may need adjustment or replacement.
- Transmission Problems: The TR/MLP sensor fault can cause the transmission to fall out of alignment, leading to engine flaring when shifting into fourth gear. This issue has been reported in 1994-1995 models, with similar problems in 1990-1993 models when shifting between the second and third gears.
- Ball Joint Vulnerability: Ball joints in 1990-1996 Ford F-150s are susceptible to premature failure when exposed to water. If water exposure occurs, the ball joints may need to be replaced to ensure safe operation of the vehicle.
- Hard Starting: Owners of 1990-1996 F-150s have reported difficulties with hard starting, often linked to faulty harness wiring in the power control module. Symptoms include stalling, hesitation, and failure to start, which can be frustrating for drivers.
- Suspension Problems: Front suspension issues have been reported in 1991 to 1994 Ford trucks due to weak leaf springs. This problem affects the vehicle's handling and may require the replacement of leaf springs to address the issue effectively.
These problems highlight some of the key issues that owners of the Ford F-150 1993 have faced. Addressing these concerns promptly can help maintain the performance and reliability of the vehicle.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-17
- VIN: 1FTEX14N5PK
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: To whom it may concern. I have a 1993 Ford F-150 pickup truck. I have recently experienced the problem with the fuel system described in NHTSA Campaign ID Number 93V125000, NHTSA Action Number EA93001. This defect in the fuel pump causes the fuel drawn from the front tank to be returned to the rear tank. In short time the rear tank capacity can be exceeded causing fuel to spill from filler neck into the environment. Not only is this an environmental issue, it is a major safety issue as the fuel could ignite causing a fire that could easily result in severe injury or death. I have contacted Sanderson Ford in Phoenix asking that they repair this problem under the conditions of the recall and they are refusing to do so. I am asking that NHTSA instruct Ford to repair this problem as described in the recall. Again, this problem causes raw fuel to spill from the tank into the environment causing both and environmental issue along with a major safety issue. The fuel could easily catch fire resulting in severe injury or death.

They can fix the 05S28 speed control system modification recall which I have scheduled, however they advised parts for repair are no longer available from Ford. I have not had an issue as yet, however since the recall is engine and gas related which could cause a fire, I would like to get the vehicle fixed. Please advise. Thank you

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-07-01
- VIN: 1FTEX15n3pk
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Started hearing fuel pump stay engaged after turning engine off and could smell fuel during these times. Fueled up rear tank next morning and when I arrived at work and got out with truck still running there was gasoline pouring out from the front gas tank spiller neck at an alarming rate. When I selected the front tank it stopped flowing. Next day while in traffic at light When I engaged the gas pedal and fished tailed due to a puddle off gasoline dumping from truck onto rd. In front of rear tires. Started having poor acceleration and seemed as if truck wasn’t getting enough fuel or lacked power. Still has open recall so I brought it to Ford dealership explain the issue and also that cross fuel flow in those year trucks has a recall for same issue. Trucks been there 2 weeks and I’m being told it’s to be $2700 to replace both fuels pumps and shuttle valves. I showed them video of gas pouring from the truck and showed them fords recall and remedy for issue. They said they will not fix this problem in truck and I must cover cost. This after knowing of recall and seeing a video of fuel spillage will not cover cost. This is unsafe I feel as any source of ignition may cause a fire from immediate gas spillages. Ford said they would over do repair if 12 years from start of warranty date of truck or Under 150k . Truck is under that mileage . But refuse to make repair under prior recall even though this is extremely dangerous situation to be driving truck. Trucks still in shop and I’m awaiting for a response from Ford corporate as I contacted them to explain issue in hopes they would honor repair as I feel it necessary for the safety of myself, family, and those others whom may be hurt in the event an accident occurs.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my 93 f150. I bought it back in 1997 with 40,000 miles on it, and now it has 217,000 miles and still runs like new! This truck has been incredibly reliable as long as I've kept up with regular maintenance. Despite being an older truck, it still provides a nice ride (although it can be a bit noisy at times) and hauls cargo with ease. I've owned newer trucks like a 07 Chevy 1500 and Ram 1500, both with less than 200 miles, but unfortunately, their transmissions blew at around 124-135,000 miles. The Ram's engine even went at 150,000 miles. (These trucks were just for driving state to state with little or no cargo.) All in all, I can confidently say that my 93 f150 is more reliable than most newer model trucks. Thanks for listening!

Great job on choosing this truck! It's tough enough to handle anything a fast 17 year old can throw at it, whether it's for work or play!
-
If you're looking for a reliable and smooth ride, the F150 has got you covered!
-
Hi there! It's great to hear that your vehicle has been running smoothly with only a few minor repairs. You've taken great care of it! I noticed that you mentioned using PROLONG OIL additive, which seems to have worked wonders for you. Keep up the good work!
-
Great on road and off. The best truck I've ever owned. Finding a well-maintained used vehicle is a must for reliability, and I got lucky with this one. It's important to note that the twin traction beam front end was replaced with a different suspension system when the rules for off-road racing changed. Overall, I highly recommend this truck!

You got this used for $800 and needed another $1200 to get it into good mechanical condition. The interior is still very nice, but the body is rusty in the usual Michigan places. However, the straight six with auto trans has over 205K miles and still runs perfectly! It's an amazing powertrain.

Not great for towing serious loads, but it served its purpose for light hauling and basic work truck. The fuel economy was kind of low, and the previous owner had the tranny fixed at least twice, so it may not be the best for heavy loads or construction work. You might want to consider a bigger Ford for those purposes.
