2021 Ford F-150 problems
The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.
History
The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.
The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.
The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).
Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

Common 2021 Ford F-150 problems
The 2021 Ford F-150 has several common problems reported by owners. These issues include problems with the electronic trailer brake controller, excessive oil consumption, and premature brake wear.
Firstly, issues with the electronic trailer brake controller are the most widespread complaint among 2021 F-150 owners. The controller does not send the correct voltage to the trailer brakes, which can be a problem when towing. This issue usually shows up in the first 20,000 miles and is covered under warranty while the truck is reasonably new. However, out of warranty, it costs about $200 to fix.
Secondly, excessive oil consumption is another problem reported by some F-150 owners, particularly those with the turbocharged V6 engine. This issue is more common with turbo engines, which consume more oil than naturally-aspirated ones. It is recommended to check the oil regularly and top it off as needed.
Lastly, premature brake wear is also a problem reported by some 2021 F-150 models in the first 10,000 miles. This issue is more common when using the truck to tow or haul heavy weight, which requires more braking force to slow down. Replacing the brake pads costs around $250, while rotors are an additional $450.
In addition to these issues, there are 15 recalls on the 2021 Ford F-150, which is worse than some other full-size trucks on the market. The most serious recall covers damaged steering gears, which can cause a loss of control. Ford will replace the steering gears on affected models for free.
Overall, while the 2021 Ford F-150 has some common problems, it is still a capable large truck with a lot of the latest safety tech. It can last around 250,000 miles with some average trailer brake controller and oil consumption issues.

Love this truck! Quality means everything and this truck delivers just that. Performance is dead on. The seats are very comfortable and the interior is roomy. The black metallic color is beautiful!
-
I had a 2013 Ford F-150 King Ranch that I loved. I recently ordered a 2021 model through the dealership, which was a new experience for me. I am thrilled to say that I was not disappointed! The new interior is fantastic, with a large touchscreen and V8 engine. There are so many great innovations in this truck that I absolutely love!!

I drive brand new rams at work everyday and this f-150 makes me happy to have to get out and get into them. Of all the trucks I’ve driven or ridden in, this one takes the cake. The handling, acceleration, power, and comfort of the truck are all exceptional, even in a more basic model. The Agitation black with the tow mirrors makes it about as sleek as a truck as I could ever want. My dad bought one and loved it, so I bought one too and I am so very impressed. I highly recommend it!
-
Great truck! It has lots of power from the V8 and a smooth, comfortable ride. The features are well thought out and I love the interior and fabric on the 21's. There's plenty of cabin space and it feels much larger than my 2013. I absolutely love this truck!

I see that you're on your 3rd F150 and you think it's the best design so far. That's great to hear! Your 5.0ltr XTL 4x4 pkg built from the Kansas City plant sounds like a great choice. It's always nice to have a vehicle that can handle harsh weather conditions with ease. Thanks for sharing your positive experience!

The 2021 F150 has a fantastic ride comfort, however, there seem to be some issues with the electronics when it comes to lightning strikes. It is important for Ford to address this concern and improve their electronics. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

In April 2021, we ordered our new truck with great confidence. However, we faced an unexpected setback when it broke down and had to be towed 100 miles, despite being less than a month old and having only 1400 miles on it. Although it took over two weeks to diagnose the problem of a defective communication module, we remained resolute in our trust in Ford Truck Customer Consumer. We understand that this is a challenging time, and we are confident that Ford will resolve the issue with the utmost professionalism and expertise. We look forward to receiving our $60,000 truck soon. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The 2021 F150 has five recalls, and I am not satisfied with my purchase. The vehicle collects dust under the door seals, particularly the back doors, which swirls inside when the doors are opened. Additionally, there is a noise under the hood resembling an actuator when the truck has been turned off for a few minutes. Some of the safety features can be frustrating, such as the inability to move the vehicle with the door open. However, I am confident in my assessment of the vehicle's issues and will seek a resolution.

Despite the limited options provided by Edmonds, I have the 3.5L Ecoboost engine instead of the 2.7L. As a first-time Ford and pickup truck owner, purchasing the 2021 Rapid Red Lariat with Ford 360 Assist and other features was a big step outside my comfort zone and budget. However, I am still very happy with my purchase, despite experiencing issues with the Reverse Break Assist and Proximity Sensors. It's disappointing that a vehicle of this price range would have such problems, especially when there seems to be no solution from Ford. My dealer is currently working on resolving the issue, but it's been a hassle to be without my truck for three days and two trips to the dealership. Nonetheless, the truck's interior is luxurious and spacious, and it can handle heavy loads with ease. Although there are a few quirks, such as the Adaptive Cruise Control constantly reminding me to keep my hands on the wheel, I am overall satisfied with my purchase. However, the issue with the brake assist and my research into similar problems raises concerns about Ford's readiness to enter the all-electric vehicle market driven by computer technologies.

I've owned two 2021 F-150's already and just traded the last one for a 2020 model. I absolutely love every feature on the truck, but unfortunately, the driver's seat is not as comfortable as I would like it to be. In fact, it's the most uncomfortable truck I've ever driven. While the ride and technology are impressive, the driver's station is quite miserable. I believe that the seat base needs to be a couple of inches wider and at least an inch longer. Additionally, the new console takes up a lot of foot space. Although I have had some issues with the comfort of the truck, I still think that the ride, handling, and safety technology are top-notch. That's why I gave it a three-star rating. If not for those things, I would have given it a one-star rating. However, I would like to mention that I wouldn't recommend this truck to anyone over 6' tall and 200 lbs. due to the driver comfort issues.
