The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.

History

The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.

The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.

The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).

Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

Common 2015 Ford F-150 problems

The 2015 Ford F-150 has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to its engine, brakes, and electrical systems.

One of the most common engine issues is a rough running engine, which is often caused by a dirty mass air-flow sensor (MAF) that fails to function properly around 100,000 miles. This problem can be resolved by cleaning or replacing the MAF sensor, which typically costs between $100 and $250, depending on whether it is done by a professional or not.

Another engine problem is metallic clicking or rattling, which occurs when the engine reaches average operating temperatures. This issue is caused by a lack of tension in the timing chain, which can lead to engine failure if not addressed promptly. The long-term solution is to install a new, updated head gasket, which can cost between $2,256 and $2,632.

The 2015 Ford F-150's brake system has also been reported to have issues, particularly with premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, and brake failure. These issues can be caused by various factors, including worn-out brake pads, damaged rotors, and faulty brake components.

The electrical system in the 2015 Ford F-150 has also been reported to have problems, such as computer module failure, rear door locks that stick, and windshield wiper switches that malfunction. These issues can be caused by various factors, including faulty wiring, damaged components, and software glitches.

In addition to these common problems, the 2015 Ford F-150 has also been recalled 13 times for various issues, including brake fluid leaks, electrical shorts, and doors that fly open. These recalls affect over 1,000 vehicles and highlight the need for proper maintenance and repair of the vehicle.

In summary, the 2015 Ford F-150 has several common problems related to its engine, brakes, and electrical systems, which can be costly to repair. Proper maintenance and timely repair are essential to ensure the longevity and reliability of the vehicle.

Negative 2015 Ford F-150 car reviews

  1. Einar Wilkinson 2025-05-11

I recently purchased a Ford F150 at the end of 2015 and got a great deal. Unfortunately, I've been experiencing some issues with the truck. A few weeks ago, while driving at 45 mph, the truck suddenly locked up and wouldn't go faster than 10 mph. Although I turned it off and everything seemed fine for a while, the same thing happened again and I was almost rear-ended. The truck screen displayed a message saying 'Service Advance Traq' and the truck was lurching back and forth. I took it to the dealer and they determined that the throttle assembly was broken. Although I think there may be other problems, the part is currently on back order. Additionally, after the first month, the truck started making engine noise and is very weak with not much pickup. The A/C is also not very effective and the back doors are annoying to open and close. I had a Tundra for 8 years and only needed to replace the A/C fan, tires, and brakes. I needed something reliable for my business, but unfortunately, this Ford has been a huge mistake. I paid 38k for this truck and it has only lasted 6000 miles. I'm currently in a rental Ford Escape and feeling quite upset.

  2. Gerardo Strosin 2025-04-17

The oil pan gasket leak was first noticed at 48000 miles, and although it was under warranty, it was not realized at the time. The issue worsened at 62000 miles. It is surprising that a plastic oil pan with a silicone seal was used, especially on the smaller 2.7 ecoboost engine. This seems to be a major problem for the 2015 F150.

  3. Edmund Cole 2025-03-22

Here's a brief summary of the truck: it looks great and has a lot of technology, although some of it unfortunately doesn't work. The Lariat is almost fully loaded and has good road holding and steering for a truck. The acceleration and braking are average, but the acceleration is better in Sport mode. The road noise reduction is excellent, and the 3.5L Twin Turbo engine is quiet. The interior has lots of room for movement and storage, and the rear cab is very spacious. However, the logic of controls could be improved. The safety features are impressive, with incredibly bright LED headlights and a blind spot monitoring system that works very well. The truck itself doesn't have terrible blind spots, but the traction is sub-par in bad weather. The tech is about average, with quick-loading voice commands, but some minor issues with the entertainment center. Unfortunately, the reliability of this truck has been poor, with frequent repairs needed and an unreliable engine and transmission. Despite this, the dealership support has been decent. The technicians have mentioned that the transmission 'learns', but in my experience, it seems to be 'learning' the wrong way, which is causing it to get worse. Unfortunately, I have experienced instances where the electronics have shut off while the engine was running, including the power brakes and steering. Despite my concerns, Ford has assured me that there is nothing to worry about. Since purchasing the vehicle, it has spent a total of 53 days in repair for various defects, ranging from minor issues such as the radio cutting out and the AC on the seat getting hot and melting, to more serious problems such as the engine stalling or dying while driving or idling, and all electronics turning off while the truck is on. It has been a frustrating experience, and I have sought legal advice due to Ford's lack of responsibility towards consumers and compliance with state and federal laws. Overall, I would rate my experience with Ford a 1 out of 10, and I will not be purchasing a Ford again. (The 1 is only for the looks of the vehicle.)

  4. Jensen Wolf 2025-03-12

My boss replaces my company truck with a new one every few years. As a die-hard Ford fan, he has always opted for the F150, and I have had the opportunity to use the last three generations of this truck (2003, 2010, and now the 2015). Although my job requires a truck, I do not need to haul heavy loads frequently. Occasionally, I move products weighing between 1000-1200 lbs, and sometimes up to 4000 lbs with a trailer. On my first trip with a load, I had only 1200 miles on the odometer. I was driving from KC to Ohio to pick up a car I had purchased, an old Monte Carlo weighing 3300lbs, which I towed using a dolly. The majority of the trip was on I70. However, I had my first scare when I was on a two-lane road going about 50-55 mph and came around a gentle right-hand corner with a group of trees blocking my view all the way through the corner. Partway through, I realized there was a raised RR track coming up, and I needed to slow down. Although I had a half-mile to slow down, I was taking it easy, getting used to the feel of the car and dolly behind me. When I applied the brake to start slowing down the truck while still coming around the corner slightly, the truck felt like the back tires came off the ground! It pushed over to the left as if I was on a patch of ice. My first thought was that I had made a big miscalculation and the car was too heavy for the truck. However, the tow capacity for my truck is supposed to be 7600 lbs as optioned. The whole trip home was a bit nerve-racking. I got used to the truck's response to the weight behind it and figured out that the biggest issue was turning. The rear suspension is so soft that any side load pushes the truck in a manner that would make you think you have two flat tires on the back. However, in a straight line, it feels much better, although still very soft. The F150's suspension is tuned to be soft, which makes it weak when you put a load on it. However, the ecoboost engine (2.7) is very strong and responsive if you call on it to provide that. The truck is safe to use for work as long as you don't exceed its weight capacity. The aluminum body can be noisy, especially on the highway, but it is a small price to pay for the truck's durability. The Ford gauge tends to overestimate the fuel economy, so it's important to calculate the mileage manually. Overall, the F150 is a reliable and powerful truck that can handle most workloads with ease.At around 10k miles on the truck, the bed started making a popping sound when driving over uneven surfaces such as pulling in or out of my drive. Despite the F150 being loaded with neat features and having a comfortable cab, I do not consider it to be a worthwhile truck due to the multiple popping sounds. Additionally, I have concerns about the electronics based on previous experience, as Ford electronics seem to have a short life expectancy. The cost of this truck compared to others was quite high, and the insurance cost went up about 25% because of the aluminum body. If it were my money, I would not choose to replace this truck with another Ford.

  5. Hailey Simonis 2025-02-15

Where should I begin? The truck started out brand new, but unfortunately, the heat and AC didn't work. After waiting for three weeks for the part to come from China, it finally worked. However, I've noticed that the doors don't close properly, so I have to be careful not to slam them. Additionally, the seat doesn't adjust up or down, which is a bit of a problem for me since I'm 6ft 1 and my knees hit the steering wheel. The truck comes with two AC plug outlets, but unfortunately, they are useless for charging my drill batteries. They won't charge my 12v 3 amp battery and just blink yellow. It's frustrating to have two plugs that can't handle the job. Also, the truck takes 20-25 minutes to put out hot air in 20-degree temperatures, which is quite a long time. Lastly, the radio signal is weak, and the range is short. All in all, this truck is not suitable for anything other than delivering flowers. It seems like Ford went really cheap on this one.

Positive 2015 Ford F-150 car reviews

  1. Ahmed Carter 2025-10-18

I used to tease Ford owners when I was younger, but as an adult, I decided to buy the best truck regardless of its badge. I have been amazed by how much attention this pickup truck gets. It has impressive fuel economy, averaging 21 mpg, with my best tank being 23 so far. I drive it easy, maybe 70% highway, but I get into traffic and live in hilly Western PA. The power of this truck is also impressive, especially out of the gate. Two weeks ago, I bested my friend's GMC v8, which made him unhappy. If the aluminium, turbos and auto-start/stop don't impact reliability too much, then this truck has made all the others obsolete. I trust that Ford engineers have done their homework because they are betting the company on it. Only time will tell, but I am excited to see what the future holds.

  2. Jimmie Braun 2025-10-11

This is a fantastic truck! Although I haven't owned one before, I'm familiar with their positives and negatives from growing up around them and hearing about them from my buddies. The ride comfort is exceptional and the technology packages work exactly as described. My wife loves it, so I have no complaints. I traded in my 2013 Wrangler and the difference in hauling/towing capacity, ride comfort, and style make this a great purchase. Not to mention, I get better MPGs in my F150 than I did in my former Wrangler. The dual panel glass roof really sold me - great work, Ford! Overall, I highly recommend this truck to anyone looking for a reliable and stylish vehicle. I suggest taking one for a spin, and if you do, go for the 5.0 V8. It's just as good, if not better, than the TT ecoboost.

  3. Ubaldo Feeney 2025-09-13

Hello! I'm glad to hear that you're a conscientious shopper who does their research before making a big purchase. It sounds like you've made a great choice with your F-150! With approximately 25k miles on it, you haven't had a single problem, which is fantastic. The 5.0 engine is very responsive and you're averaging 19mpg in mixed driving, which is impressive. On a long 600 mile trip, you even managed to average 21mpg at 70mph! That's amazing. You mentioned that you pull a 21ft camper that weighs about 5000 lbs. loaded and it pulls it with no problem, averaging about 15mpg doing 65mph. That's really impressive! The transmission shifts very smoothly, even smoother than your previous Toyota Tacoma. You also mentioned that the brakes work wonderfully, which is a great safety feature. The ride is pretty good for a truck, especially on a long trip. I'm glad to hear that you love the backup camera and parking sensors, which have saved you a couple of times already. Hitching up your camper is also nice once you get the hang of it. The A/C is also impressive, running you out of the truck even when it's 100 degrees outside. I'm also happy to hear that you love the oil monitoring system and that you can comfortably go 7500 miles using full synthetic oil. All in all, it sounds like you really like your F-150 and plan on keeping it for many years. I hope it lasts 200 or maybe even 300k miles! It's interesting that you've noticed more older Ford trucks on the road than Chevy or Dodge. That says a lot about Ford products. Thank you for sharing your experience with us! By the way, updating your previous review, it's great to hear that you still haven't had any real problems with your truck, even with 42,000 miles on it now. Very little maintenance other than oil changes performed by the dealer is impressive. Keep up the good work!I recently updated the front brakes on my F-150 with some slotted/vented rotors and premium semi-metallic brake pads. I am very happy with the results and would definitely buy another F-150 without hesitation. The resale value has held up well, as my truck is still worth $25,000 according to KBB. I have had no issues with the truck so far, and have been keeping up with regular synthetic oil changes at Loganville Ford. I recently had the dealer change the rear end oil because I tow an 8000lb trailer from time to time. I plan on keeping the truck for a long time and will likely have the transmission serviced around 60 or 70,000 miles. While the sync system can act a little crazy from time to time, it's not a big deal. Overall, the truck has been very reliable. I previously owned a Toyota Tacoma and a Toyota Camry, both of which were great vehicles, but I think Ford makes a quality product. I hope to get 300k miles from my F-150, and with 63,000 miles as of 9-15-19, it's been a good truck with just regular maintenance. I had the transmission fluid changed at 59k and new spark plugs at 61k. I also put a new Flowmaster dual exhaust on it, which makes the V-8 sound awesome. As of 9/18/21, the truck has almost 79k miles and the only real problem I've had is a faulty a/c/heater diverter motor that made a clicking noise. It cost about $300 for the dealer to replace, but other than that, my 5.0 engine seems to keep right on purring. I'm still hoping to get 300k miles out of my baby!

I really enjoyed the 2015 F-150 Platinum! The interior of this truck was exactly what I expected from a truck of this caliber. It has safety features galore, comfort above and beyond, and technology that outperforms the competition 10:1. The running boards retract when I open and close the door, and the headlights are on Auto Bright and detect oncoming cars so I don't have to switch from dims to brights. The truck also has Adaptive Cruise Control, Turbo Engine, LED lighting, and OverHead Parking Assist that shows the entire truck surroundings front, back, and both sides as if a drone is above my cab. The exterior redesign has grown on me, and it's starting to look more like a transformer. Truth be told, the interior sold me so much that I could be in a bright pink school bus and not even care. I get compliments non-stop on my truck, and people really do turn their heads. I highly recommend the 2015 F-150 Platinum, it's hands down the best truck in its class. If you don't believe me, just go test drive one and try to compare it against the competition without bias. It's impossible. It may be expensive, but you wouldn't be reading a review about the Platinum Trim if you couldn't get one...Hey, why don't you go get one?

The 3.5L Ecoboost engine has been fantastic! The truck is incredibly quick when empty and handles towing a 30ft trailer with ease, even on Colorado mountain passes. While there have been some reliability issues, they were all resolved quickly and efficiently by the dealer under warranty. At around 10k miles, the throttle body failed, causing some issues, but it was replaced by the dealer at no cost. The same issue recurred at around 40k miles, but this time I was able to replace the throttle body myself and save a lot of money. Additionally, before 40k miles, the vacuum operated actuators that engage 4WD failed, causing a grinding noise, but the dealer replaced them under the drive train warranty. They also found that the struts were leaking, which was causing some front end bounce when towing, so those were replaced as well. Overall, while my previous experience with Japanese SUV's was great, I'm still very happy with my F-150 and its ability to handle towing a 6000lb travel trailer for half of its 42K miles!
