Chevrolet Camaro problems

chevrolet logo

The Chevrolet Camaro is a mid-size American automobile manufactured by Chevrolet, classified as a pony car. It first went on sale on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year and was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang. The Camaro shared its platform and major components with the Firebird, produced by General Motors' Pontiac division that was also introduced for 1967.

Four distinct generations of the Camaro were developed before production ended in 2002. The nameplate was revived on a concept car that evolved into the fifth-generation Camaro; production started on March 16, 2009.

The Camaro was discontinued at the end of the 2024 model year. Production ended in December 2023. However, Chevrolet has stated, "This is not the end of Camaro's story."

Chevrolet Camaro 2015
  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-03
  • Date Complaint: 2024-09-08
  • VIN: 2G1FB1E36F9
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: I have purchased a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro and it has become obvious that there is an electrical issue that was not previously disclosed by the dealership. The radio and air conditioning shut off randomly while driving and it is accompanied by a loud popping sound. In addition, when pressing on the brake or using the right turn signal, the radio will also shut down completely, while the air conditioning is making a loud rumbling noise. This happens frequently and there is also a constant blinking in the lights on the front of the radio. This appears to be an electrical issue and the safety concerns are based on the premise that it can be reproduced by stepping on the brake or using the turn signal. Each of these need to be in proper working condition in order to be considered safe on the road. I am writing as after going to several shops thinking it was an issue with the radio itself, I was advised that this is a known issue with the Chevrolet Camaro. There are countless posts online with other Camaro owners complaining of the same symptoms and this defect should likely be included in a recall or repairs covered by the manufacturer. Please look into my concerns.

Chevrolet Camaro 2016
  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-08
  • Date Complaint: 2024-08-26
  • Fire: 1
  • VIN: 1G1FH1R77G0
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE
  • Summary: Before purchasing a 2016 camaro last year I took it to a Chevrolet dealership for a safety inspection with no safety concerns found and after purchasing it around 57,000 miles went to another Chevrolet dealership to diagnose any electrical concerns occurring with the car that I noticed. There was nothing found but I still noticed humming sound and let them know and they found no concerns whatsoever. The battery was replaced twice as over the course of the year the electricals decreased in power. I then notified my insurance there was an issue with the car drawing power and it would not start. Upon checking the trunk noticed water had gotten into and possibly damaged the trunk/rear fuse block. I went through my insurance to fix any body damage but no electricals were fixed based on the insurance representative declining to accept liability for the damage and upon return of my vehicle, the repair facility started the car against my wishes and the rear fuse block in the trunk sparked and caused a fire to start in the trunk that continued for about a minute or two. Upon taking it to Chevrolet this year again after this, I was charged $800 for them to not diagnose anything but to say the x-connectors were burned up in the incident as well (I said this previously as this started the fire as it carries the currents from the fuse block) and to say they cannot find the source of the water leak/entry or replace the fuse block as the x-connectors and harness for the car, the first parts needed to be repaired to establish power to the car, have been discontinued. For more details on the cause, effects, and repair steps necessary but not been able to completed by GM/Chevrolet please refer to this service bulletin that I noticed was raised after I purchased this car upon researching the issue MULTIPLE chevrolet dealerships, ignored, didn't notice, and now are saying cannot repair and should be followed up on: 18-NA-375. Car is at ~70,000 miles currently.

The independent mechanic made the contact aware of Technical Service Bulletin Number: 18-NA-355. The vehicle was repaired. The 2010 2SS RS Camaro has been making loud and annoying clunking sounds when going over bumps or rivets in the pavement, which is a common issue among most 2010-2011 Camaros. Despite opening a case with GM, they have refused to fix the issue at this time. However, there are many Camaro owners who are experiencing the same problem, as can be seen in this forum link: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2648682#post2648682. It is important to be aware of this issue before purchasing the car.

This car has several flaws that I noticed immediately on my drive home from the dealership. I took the vehicle back for service the next day and was told that the car needed to be broken in. However, it is not normal for a car to have a clunky front end and steering wheel wobble even after being broken in. In my experience, the people servicing these vehicles are just as incompetent as those designing and building them. As an owner of 7 cars, I can confidently say that this one has the poorest quality and worst service. Although the engine and transmission are good, the rest of the car is junk. I strongly advise buyers to beware of this typical GM S-Box.

I've been driving my midnight blue Camaro for almost a year now, and it's been a great ride. I only drive 4 miles to work and back, so it's still in great condition with only 10,000 miles on it. However, I've noticed that the paint around the gills looks a bit rough, with some nicks that make it look like I've been through a paintball war. I'm planning to take it to the dealer next week to have them take a look, but I'm not sure if they'll be able to do anything about it. As someone who's a bit OCD about keeping my vehicles looking perfect, it's a bit disappointing to see it in this condition.

My nephew left his car with me when he went to Qatar for a year with the Army. It's a fun car to drive, handles great, and has good mileage. It's also a good-looking car. However, when I was preparing the car for his return by washing and waxing it, I noticed marks under the clear coat that wouldn't come off. I tried different waxes and even buffing with 3M Finesse, but unfortunately, the clear coat is ruined as far as I'm concerned. I've seen this same defect on my 1996 Intrepid and my 2003 Dodge Ram. It seems like the good old boys at Detroit are using cheap materials. In contrast, my 2002 Honda (which has 296,000 miles) sits in the same driveway and does not have these issues. It's disappointing that taxpayers gave GM $10 billion to produce subpar products. Let's hope they improve their quality control in the future!

This car has had a few issues with the paint job and some of its parts, such as the window motors, headlight knob, alternator, batteries, EGR valve, fuel cell, rear end, speedometer, dash wiring, computer chip, and fuel pressure regulator. The spoiler on the front end has also needed to be replaced a few times due to the car sitting low and breaking easily over bumps. Despite these challenges, the car has only clocked 72,000 miles.

I really love this car, with just one reservation which I will cover at the end. The styling is beautiful both inside and out. I have driven Chargers before, including a modded R/T and a 392 SRT, and I wanted to step up to the Hellcat. However, when my SRT was regularly mistaken for a Hellcat, I realized that Dodge made a mistake. There should be more style differentiation between the Hellcat and SRT. If I am buying a Hellcat, I want no question that's what I bought for that amount of money. The ZL1 stands out from the crowd. It does not look like the other models. People have asked me, 'what is that?' and 'is that a Camaro?'. It is absolutely menacing, and Chevy scores one point for that. In terms of performance, the acceleration and power are insane, and the predictability is impressive. The 10-speed auto transmission shifts like a superbike, and I have never experienced anything like it. The car's specs and flexibility in customizing its performance are amazing. There is not much on the road that can challenge you. Moving on to the interior, I was prepared to be miserable in terms of comfort, but I was pleasantly surprised. You feel like you are in a black ops military stealth cockpit. I am a 5'8'' 280lb bodybuilder, and I am supremely comfortable. You can cruise comfortably for as long as you like, and you will love every moment. Every feature is laid out so cleanly and logically that everything you do is inherently intuitive. The tech also caught me off guard. This is my first HUD (heads up display), and it adds so much to why this car is an 'experience'. The custom LED lighting is subtle and not overdone, and the screen is gorgeous. CarPlay, surface device charging, Wi-Fi, OnStar, GPS, crazy control over driving modes, PDR, and so on...it feels like you are in some high-end military cockpit. However, I do have one reservation about the exterior. After buying the ZL1, I realized that GM has paint issues when I saw it in the sun. There were marring/scratches all over a BRAND NEW car, which is INEXCUSABLE! The clear coat is so thin that pressing your thumbnail into the bumper, for example, leaves a scratch. Forget washing it without marring it every time.Thankfully, I know an auto paint Jedi who spent 60 hours paint correcting! They then applied CeramicPro to protect it. Now, it's absolutely beautiful in any light. Although this was disappointing, I wrote to GM execs. Let me say though, all of the good is so good, and I'm still happy to spend that money out of pocket to make it right. However, GM really needs to address this in manufacturing. I hope this was helpful!

The poor visibility at the rear of this car is quite significant, which is why the back-up camera is not a luxury but a must-have option. The interior has the same hard plastic that has been a problem for the Camaro and the Corvette since their inception. The Camaro is not suitable for tall people, as even at 5'7'', my head almost scrapes the roof. However, I absolutely love this car! I recently purchased the 2015 2SS Commemorative Edition with the Summit White exterior and the Adrenaline Red interior, and it looks fabulous! Not only does it look great, but it also runs and sounds fantastic! The exhaust note is hypnotic, and it sounds impressive even at a full stop when it is quietly rumbling. When you go downhill at low speeds, it produces stunning rumbling, burbling, and popping sounds from the tailpipes. Although I am not a skilled driver, this car feels very planted when going around curves in the road, and I feel very secure in it. It has a 5-star government rating in all safety categories. The styling of this car is retro, but even if this year had been the introduction of the Camaro, it would have been just as stunning. The only concern I have is the intermittent burning smell that I notice, which is not related to hard driving. I can go to the grocery store 3 miles away from home and only get into 4th gear, and it will have that burning smell. I have the so-called premium audio system, which is pretty good for a factory system, but it still needs a real subwoofer and not the 6x9's that Chevy has designated as Chevy makes some sexy cars! I almost got a used Corvette instead of this new Camaro!

Wow, what a car! It's definitely the best value for your money. The interior is great, even if the visibility is somewhat limited. However, the '19 model makes up for that with the review camera/mirror feature. The power is awesome, and it puts it down to the ground without being as intimidating as the Corvette. You really can't go wrong with this car.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share that I bought my z28 four years ago after selling my 1988 iroc-z. I can't believe the performance gains from the z28 compared to the iroc. With some mods like the borla catback, K&n intake, and 3.73 gears, I've been able to achieve low 13s in the 1/4 mile. I absolutely love my car, but now I'm thinking about upgrading to an SS.
