2017 Chevrolet Camaro problems
The Chevrolet Camaro is a mid-size American automobile manufactured by Chevrolet, classified as a pony car. It first went on sale on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year and was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang. The Camaro shared its platform and major components with the Firebird, produced by General Motors' Pontiac division that was also introduced for 1967.
Four distinct generations of the Camaro were developed before production ended in 2002. The nameplate was revived on a concept car that evolved into the fifth-generation Camaro; production started on March 16, 2009.
The Camaro was discontinued at the end of the 2024 model year. Production ended in December 2023. However, Chevrolet has stated, "This is not the end of Camaro's story."

Common 2017 Chevrolet Camaro problems
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro has been praised for its performance and technology, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems reported by owners. Here are some of the issues that have been reported:
- Stereo System Issues: Some 2017 Camaro owners have reported issues with the stereo system at around 15,000 miles. These issues can be resolved with software updates that improve the stability of the system and help prevent it from freezing. Most dealers will update the software for free, while some charge around $50.
- Excessive Oil Consumption: Some Camaro owners have reported excessive oil consumption at around 15,000 miles. In most cases, this is just part of the normal operation of the engine, and we recommend checking your oil regularly and topping it off as needed. There are some rare reports of valve issues leaking oil, which have usually been covered under warranty.
- Power Steering Shuts Off: Some owners of the 2016 and 2017 Camaro have reported that the power steering shuts off intermittently without any prior alarms or problems, requiring excessive force to maneuver the vehicle. This issue was widespread in the 2017 model, and Chevrolet acknowledged the problem and recalled over 26,000 vehicles in 2019 to replace the power steering gear assembly free of charge.
- Transmission Not Shifting into Gears Correctly: Some 2017 and 2018 Camaro owners have reported that the transmission does not shift into gears correctly, causing headaches for some owners. This issue seems to still cause problems for some owners of the 2018 Camaro.
Regular maintenance can help stretch the life of the Camaro to 200,000 miles or more. The sixth-gen Chevy Camaro receives a reliability score of 80 out of 100, which is a solid statement for the vehicle in the sports coupe segment. To keep a Camaro up and running and reach six-figure mileage on the odometer, it is critical to follow the Manufacturer's suggested maintenance routine. Some of the essential services include rotating tires, changing engine oil and oil filter, replacing the passenger compartment air filter, engine air cleaner, the transmission fluid and filter, and the brake fluid, changing the spark plugs and inspecting the spark plug wires, and draining and refilling the engine cooling system.
In conclusion, while the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro has some common problems reported by owners, regular maintenance can help stretch the life of the vehicle to 200,000 miles or more. It is essential to follow the Manufacturer's suggested maintenance routine to keep the Camaro up and running and reach six-figure mileage on the odometer.

While driving, the vehicle shudders unexpectedly and intensely, then the issue spontaneously resolves. Upon contacting the dealership, I was informed that this is a recognized problem. The service representative explained that moisture was accumulating in the transmission fluid due to a factory defect, resulting in the sporadic vibration. I was advised that a transmission flush using Mobile One would rectify the problem, but this measure proved ineffective. The dealership is now suggesting that the torque converter may be the cause. Separately, the rear window has detached from the convertible top. Despite my efforts to seal the gap, water still seeps into the vehicle during rainfall.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-25
- VIN: 1G1FJ1R6XH0
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: While idling out of a driveway on Friday, 8/25/23, there was a warning on the dash that stated "low oil pressure, shut off vehicle immediately." I immediately shut the vehicle off within seconds of seeing this warning and towed the vehicle home. I've read that these vehicles-Camaro ZL1 are notorious for failed oil pumps. I have babied this vehicle and do not use it as a daily driver. I only take it out a few times a year and have only 18,000 miles on it. The vehicle is in stock condition and has not been modified which blows my mind that this would even occur on such a well taken care of vehicle that is so expensive and supposed to be the top the line. Of course the dealer was unhelpful due to it being pass what they consider warranty timeframe. I am hopeful that GM will assist in any way possible being that I believe GM installed faulty oil pumps on these expensive vehicles. Also I am a loyal customer to GM. Within the last 5 years, I have purchased 3 brand new Chevys-2017 Camaro ZL1, 2020 Silverado Trailboss, and 2021 Malibu RS.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-29
- VIN: 1G1FB1RXXH0
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: My vehicle dies while going 60 MPH or at red lights, creating a dangerous situation in traffic or on the highway. At times when yielding it feels like I've been hit by another vehicle from behind, the transmission does not downshift normally, and the TSB (see attached) proves that General Motors knew about this issue and did not notify customers or recall the vehicle for repairs. I have 2 issues with my vehicle and both issues remain unresolved even after utilizing the power train warranty. My vehicle was taken to the dealership for repairs multiple times, the "check engine" light was on the vehicle, no one checked it, and General Motors did not honor its Power Train Warranty Obligations, "the defects remain unresolved". My vehicle is dangerous to operate, I have tried working with General Motors to arrive at a solution, "But I should not be forced pay additional expense for issues General Motors knew about a, issued TSB's warning dealerships, and made no effort to notify customers. I am reporting this issue to the NTSB before providing a 30 day Notice of Intent to sue, to General Motors
SEAT BELTS PROBLEM

The stainless steel cable, being approximately 1/4" to 5/16" in diameter, became disconnected from the entire driver's side seat belt. Making the seat belt totally unusable to the driver of the vehicle. It is unknown what caused the cable to because cut and/or fail but, I am a 30 year military aviation maintenance veteran who has seen my fair share of material failure and the manner in which this cable failed is absolutely due to a material defect.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-05-18
- VIN: 1G1FG3D78H0
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Transmission in the 2016 and up 6 speed manual will pop out of second gear and making horrible grinding noises upon engaging and releasing clutch. I know several people who have had this issue and they told me GM is aware of the issue but ignoring it but it is a safety issue because it leaves a person in neutral in traffic when shifting to second it will go in and pop out. It is defective transmission housing in these expensive cars and mines has been doing it since I have had it and it is definitely the defective transmission housing and there is even a YouTube video on it. This needs to be addressed before Gm gets sued for this. Pandemic has made it even harder to get dealership to get stuff done because personally my car sat at Butler Chevrolet in Macon two months and they still never touched it and told us to come get my vehicle because they had no one to work on it and they had us in a loaner car with improper tags and registration issues and we reported that to local authorities and we are planning to sue them also if they don't settle for the discrimination and hard time they gave us letting my car sit months for no reason just to tell me they had no qualified technician to work on it and they had got my car full of ants and insects. We need this recalled so that anyone with these dangerous transmissions will get it repaired. Don't do your customers like this we are well aware of what's happening here. We pay good money for these cars. Recall these things before it leads to bigger class action issues and I'm a car truck guy and very mechanically inclined and have many friends who have these cars in manual and some of them have had transmission replacement due to defective housing and that solved the issue.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-18

Now he opens the door before he turns the car off which is not safe.

Hey there! Have you considered buying the Camaro? It's not only fast, but the inside and outside look amazing too!
-
I love that they put the French flag on the front fenders, as my grandma was French. The Camaro has been a fun car so far, and while the 4 cylinder engine is adequate in terms of power and gas mileage, it lacks the sound that some drivers crave. The interior room is not the best, with rear seating only suitable for kids. However, given the overall size of the car, the interior space could be better.

I recently purchased a 2017 Camaro 2.4 l turbo that was advertised for $27,000-$30,000. Although it's a very nice car, the total cost ended up being $54,000 with the Gaff insurance, which is pretty steep. Additionally, the gas mileage isn't great and I've had some issues with the dealership's knowledge about the car. Despite these setbacks, I still love the car. I'm planning on refinancing it this week to lower my monthly payments, which are currently $700 a month instead of the advertised $399-$400 a month with excellent credit. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, but I do wish the gas mileage was better than the 17.2 MPG I'm currently getting in the city on Tour selection instead of sport selection, which is lower than the advertised 21 MPG.

Living in Southeast Texas means dealing with hot and humid days, which can be a challenge when running the air conditioner. Unfortunately, my front windshield tends to fog up, which can be quite frustrating. I took my car to the local dealer in late 2017, but they told me that this was normal and that I would have to adjust the air. However, I have owned many cars over the years, including 4 Camaros, and have never experienced this issue before. It's a shame because it makes my morning commute to work more difficult, as I have to constantly use my wipers. I hope that this issue can be resolved, as I really enjoy driving my Camaro. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

This Camaro had the 2.0Turbo in it. It's a spunky little car, but it does lack some bottom end get up and go. On the highway, I currently average 37.5 miles per gallon.

I've owned several Camaros over the years, including a 1967 RS Convert, a 2010 SS, a 2014 SS2 Convert, and most recently a brand new 2017 convertible. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with mold and mildew in the hood and trunk area, as well as some problems with the electronics. Additionally, I found it frustrating that I couldn't run the air conditioning without also having the wipers on due to the constant defrosting in Florida. Despite my concerns, the dealer was initially unhelpful and claimed that the car was functioning as intended. However, after some research, I was able to find a solution from GM myself. Although it took two weeks in the shop and a broken windshield, the issue was eventually resolved. While I ultimately decided to trade in my 2017 model for a 2018 version with better performance, I still experienced some issues with the air conditioning fogging up the windows in the morning. Although I was disappointed with the lack of support from GM and the dealer, I remain hopeful that future models will address these concerns.
