2015 Chevrolet Camaro problems

The Chevrolet Camaro is a mid-size American automobile manufactured by Chevrolet, classified as a pony car. It first went on sale on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year and was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang. The Camaro shared its platform and major components with the Firebird, produced by General Motors' Pontiac division that was also introduced for 1967.
Four distinct generations of the Camaro were developed before production ended in 2002. The nameplate was revived on a concept car that evolved into the fifth-generation Camaro; production started on March 16, 2009.
The Camaro was discontinued at the end of the 2024 model year. Production ended in December 2023. However, Chevrolet has stated, "This is not the end of Camaro's story."

Common 2015 Chevrolet Camaro problems
The fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro, produced from 2010 to 2015, is known for its stylish design and powerful performance. However, like any vehicle, it is not immune to issues and problems. Here are some common problems reported by owners of the 2010-2015 Chevrolet Camaro:
- Noisy Automatic Windows: The third and fourth-generation Camaros, produced from 1982 to 2002, are known for their noisy automatic windows. The windows can vibrate against the metal when lifted and lowered, leading to scratches and potential failure. Replacing the door window glass run channels and installing a sliding power window motor can help address this issue.
- Faulty Hood and Trunk Lid Latches: The hood and trunk latches in third and fourth-generation Camaros can become unresponsive after repeated use. This can make it difficult to close the engine compartment and cargo area. Replacing the hood latch and deck lid latch can help solve this problem.
- T-Top Water Leaks: The T-top roof in the 1970s Camaros is prone to water leaks due to worn-out weatherstripping. Installing weatherstrip solutions can help create tight seals and prevent water leaks.
- Electronic Issues: The fifth-generation Camaros, produced from 2010 to 2015, are known for their electronic issues. These issues can affect the air conditioning, entertainment system, turn signals, headlights, and heated seats. Servicing the alternator can help address these issues.
- Keys Sticking in the Ignition: The 2014 Camaro is known for its ignition switch problems, which can make it difficult to remove the key from the ignition. Installing a new ignition switch near the steering column can help solve this problem.
- Radio Displays Dying: The fifth and sixth-generation Camaros, produced from 2016 to present, are known for their touch-screen infotainment systems. However, the touch-screen displays can go black, making it impossible to listen to music or enter GPS routes. Checking the wiring behind the display and seeking out a new audio infotainment system or testing a different wiring harness can help address this issue.
- Starter Motor Problems: High-mileage fifth-generation Camaros can suffer from starter motor problems, which can make it difficult to start the car. Replacing the starter motor can help solve this problem.
- Infotainment and Electrical Issues: The fifth-generation Camaros, produced from 2010 to 2015, are known for their infotainment and electrical issues. These issues can affect the touchscreen, climate control, and other electronic systems. Software updates and replacing the condenser or air ducts can help address these issues.
- Transmission Issues: The fifth-generation Camaros, produced from 2010 to 2015, are known for their transmission issues. These issues can affect the shifting and engine performance. Replacing the torque converter, transmission control module, or solenoid pack can help solve these problems.
It is important to note that not all Camaros will experience these problems, and some may not experience any issues at all. However, being aware of these common problems can help owners take preventative measures and address any issues that may arise.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-03
- VIN: 2G1FB1E36F9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I have purchased a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro and it has become obvious that there is an electrical issue that was not previously disclosed by the dealership. The radio and air conditioning shut off randomly while driving and it is accompanied by a loud popping sound. In addition, when pressing on the brake or using the right turn signal, the radio will also shut down completely, while the air conditioning is making a loud rumbling noise. This happens frequently and there is also a constant blinking in the lights on the front of the radio. This appears to be an electrical issue and the safety concerns are based on the premise that it can be reproduced by stepping on the brake or using the turn signal. Each of these need to be in proper working condition in order to be considered safe on the road. I am writing as after going to several shops thinking it was an issue with the radio itself, I was advised that this is a known issue with the Chevrolet Camaro. There are countless posts online with other Camaro owners complaining of the same symptoms and this defect should likely be included in a recall or repairs covered by the manufacturer. Please look into my concerns.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-02
- VIN: 2G1FF3D37F9
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The convertible top on this car is up and secure but the information system says it's not secure. In this situation the trunk will not open and the top not secure warning with a alarm bell goes off. GM is aware of the issue and has done nothing. The most often reported is a bad switch for the top latch. The switch is no longer available through GM. So how can I get it fixed?
VISIBILITY PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-01-01
- VIN: 2G1FD3D39F9
- Components: VISIBILITY
- Summary: The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that the heater and A/C were inoperable. There was no heat and no cold air. The contact stated that sometimes the wrong temperature was distributed through the vents. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who recharged the HVAC. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to the blend door actuator. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-05-15
- VIN: 2G1FF3D38F9
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that while the outside temperature was above 100 degrees, the vehicle experienced rough idling and, on several occasions, while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic who replaced the fuel pump and battery, and the vehicle was repaired; however, later while operating the vehicle in extremely hot weather, the failure reoccurred. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 80,000.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-21
- VIN: 2G1FD1E35F9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Key continuously gets stuck in the ignition and will not come out until approximately 30 minutes. Safety of person and vehicle was at risk due to extreme heat condition and potential for theft. Local dealership says it is a wiring issue. After researching it is a common, persistent complaint with 2015 vehicle owners. Also, there are numerous videos in which to resolve the issue by detaching the wires from the yellow box under the steering wheel. No warning lights occurred. Would get stuck briefly prior to the 30 minute period, but would reset after putting gears in neutral or drive, then park
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM

STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-01
- VIN: 2G1FD1E38F9
- Components: STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Driving in extreme cold and heat conditions and the heater would not heat nor would the air conditioner blow cool air. The window would not defrost making visibility impossible during heavy rain and snow. Nearly recked due to heater and air not working. Had vehicle trouble to dealer and discovered blend door to air conditioner /heater is faulty. there was a recall in 2019 for this part on 2015 Camaro yet I am told by GM my vin is not covered. My car is not safe to drive in extreme heat due to the possibility of heat stroke or exhaustion nor in inclimate weather due to visibility issues. GM needs to add my vin to the 2019 recall due to the highly dangerous possibility of bodily injury from the faulty blend door. In addition, the key fab gets in the way of leg room causing the car to shut off when driving.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-01
- VIN: 2G1FK1EJ1F9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The A/C blows warm air because the air box used to control the A/C was made with a flimsy part. The part is cheap to replace, but the repair is over $4,000 because of the vehicle’s design. The A/C is controlled by an air box under the dash board but the box cannot be worked on without first removing the dash board and the dash cannot be worked on without removing the windshield. I was told that there was nothing I could have done to create or prevent the problem, it’s just not a sturdy material used. And there is nothing that can be done to prevent this from reoccurring, which would be another $4,000+. In Fresno’s over 110 degree summer heat, driving around without an A/C is a health concern. Also, the vehicle won’t release the key from the ignition when it is turned off. I have to wait up to a minute for the car to release it.
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-16
- VIN: 2G1FD1E37F9
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-10
- VIN: 2G1FK1EJ8F9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: On Sunday, September 10th, The key got stuck in the ignition and would not come out. The car was on and it could not turn off. The car ran for approximately an hour. I had to pull the car out of the garage so that I would not die from carbon dioxide poisoning. It was on Sunday so I could not drive over to the dealership for help. I had to go on YouTube to see how to remove the key out of a 2015 Camaro that will not turn off. After watching numerous videos from random people, I saw a comment where you can remove one of the fuses for the ignition. This appears to be a problem with this model and make according to YouTube and needs to be addressed due to the risk of carbon dioxide exposure or running out of gas and causing engine damage

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-02-13
- VIN: 2G1FK1EJ7F9
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) stopped working. During a panic stop on a freeway, I was cut off by a van. The rear wheels locked. The Dealer charged $200 to restore the system. Then, a few months later, it happened again. The Dealer comped the repair. However, they said the car needs to be driven more. A safety system's functionality should not rely on the frequency of driving. This is a serious design flaw warranting a recall.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-06
- VIN: 2G1FD3D30F9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I have an ongoing issue with my key not coming out of the ignition when in park. Nothing appears out of the normal. Several vehicle owners appear to have the same issue and have taken this to the dealer to be advised it would cost hundreds of dollars. The key not coming out of the ignition poses a security concern because it is unclear if it is the ignition switch or actually the shifter. If the vehicle is not truly in park, will the vehicle roll and injure someone? -or- If someone is in danger, how do you quickly escape from your car without your keys? My keys are a form of protection and my house keys are attached so now an intruder will have access to my home if they know where I live. GM has already had recalls on other vehicles for this same issue. I feel GM should cover this vehicle and year too, especially since there are so many.

2015 Chevrolet Camaro recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain replacement flip-key ignition transmitter assemblies sold as replacement equipment for 2010-2015 Chevrolet Camaro vehicles. GM dealers may have inadvertently sold these assemblies as replacement keys despite them having been recalled under NHTSA recall number 14V-346 (GM number 14294) when they were the original equipment assemblies. The driver may accidentally bump the ignition key with their knee, moving the ignition out of the run position and turning off the engine.
- Consequence: Once the engine is off, the vehicle can lose power steering and power braking, increasing the risk of a crash. The air bags may not deploy in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace the key with the flat blade design, free of charge. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed November 6, 2019. Owners received a second notice and the recall began February 4, 2020. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N192223230.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac XTS, Chevrolet Camaro, Equinox, Malibu, and GMC Terrain vehicles. The affected vehicles have front seat-mounted side impact air bags whose inflator may rupture upon its deployment.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of one or both of the side impact air bags, the air bag's inflator may rupture and the air bag may not properly inflate. The rupture could cause metal fragments to strike the vehicle occupants, potentially resulting in serious injury or death. Additionally, if the air bag does not properly inflate, the driver or passenger is at an increased risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the side impact air bag modules, free of charge. The recall began on October 19, 2015. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 01320.

I purchased my car brand new in June 2015 and have only driven 25,000 miles as of April 2020. Unfortunately, the radio has stopped working and I was quoted $650 by the dealer to install a re-manufactured am/fm/cd radio with Bluetooth and SiriusXM. The labor cost for unplugging the old factory standard radio and plugging in the new one is $300 because the radio needs to be programmed. The radio itself costs $350, bringing the total cost to $700 with tax. I tried going to a radio retailer, but they would have charged $345 for the same radio, although they were unable to program it. I felt like I had no choice but to pay the higher price at the Chevy dealer. It's worth noting that Chevy has had many problems with the 5th generation radios, but unfortunately they wouldn't replace them at GM's expense.

I bought my Camaro right when they released the info on the 2016 model. I was looking for a retro style car and the Challenger, which I think looks better, drives like an ocean liner by comparison. Although the V6 does well, it lacks the torque of a V8 and requires higher RPM to get the power down. People who don't own one of these always comment on why have a V6, except this V6 puts down more power than any of the V8 Camaros of the 60's, 70's, 80's or 90's. Even the big block SS396 was barely a match for the modern V6. When I bought my Camaro, it was really just something to drive to work and I already had a 2015 Impala (which is an awesome car with the same engine). Although I never intended to do it, I ended up taking the car to an autocross instead of my usual race car. It did REALLY well. The car can handle well and when driven hard, it doesn't do too bad. Of course, this meant the commuter started to get changed into something else. I added the 1/LE performance suspension with shocks/struts/springs/sway bars as well as the 1/LE Brembo brakes and a GM performance exhaust by Borla. This car is a beast on the autocross course and the high revving 6 and paddle shifters make it a pleasure. With some bolt-on mods, it's nearly the same output as the base V8 but happier at high revs. Now, onto the interior- the seats are great and the gauges are nice, although with the HUD, I never really look at the cluster. The MyLink works well, but sometimes switches input when it gets confused. Bluetooth always works. I bypassed the Boston Acoustics amp and run an Alpine with Polk speakers and a Polk sub. The stock system with the Kicker subwoofer option sounded good, but I usually look for more audio performance in any car I own. The lack of HD Radio was a surprise, as other MyLink equipped Chevies have HD Radio... and it sounds WAY better. My biggest complaint on the interior is the 4-gauge cluster by the shifter. You can't see much of it.They also marked the bottom of the range with an orange marker that looks just like the orange pointer. It can be confusing to glance at the gauges and see what appears to be an orange pointer at the minimum/bottom end of the gauge. I wish I had the change tray instead, as all the same information can be displayed on the color screen between the speedometer and tachometer. Additionally, the 'luxury' 2LT model should have auto climate control. It seems ridiculous to have manual controls on a supposed 'luxury' model. The trunk and back seat are both quite small, but my 10-year-old and 7-year-old don't mind it at all when we take this car places. All in all, it's a fun car. I can't think of any other car I could have purchased with 335 horsepower, paddle shifters, leather and heated seats, etc. for only $24K. The sticker price was $34K, but I got a discount through work right before I retired from GM. *****Update at three years and 21,000 miles: No problems at all with this car. I switched to aftermarket 20' wheels, so of course, it rides stiffer with the shorter sidewalls. I put the 19' originals back on for the winter just in case it needs to be driven, but it's just a backup car in the winter months. If you plan to use the original 19' wheels with Brembo brake upgrades, you will need a small 3mm spacer for the front. It rides SO much better on the 19's. Fuel economy is disappointing, but not surprising. When you drive a V6 hard to make up for the lack of torque, it goes through gas quickly. No breakdowns, no failures of any components. Quality seems to be excellent so far. ****Update at 4.5 years of ownership and 28,900 miles: It's now about 388HP with tuning and mods. Same day mine was on the dyno, a supercharged 2014 V6 hit 510HP. With a tune and some mods, I'm in the high 13's in the quarter-mile and more than one lateral G for handling. It's not a supercar and it's not the fastest car on the road, but it's definitely a fun ride. Although it's still heavy and bulky, changing the tires from the stock ones makes a huge difference in handling. I upgraded to 20

The Camaro with the 6 cylinder engine is a high-performance car that requires careful driving to get the most out of it. It has a lot of torque and can be very fast when shifted to lower gears and high RPM levels. With enough space, it dominates other vehicles on the road and handles steering and braking very well. However, in heavy traffic, you need to be cautious of the blind spot, especially on 3-4 lane roads. The 6 cylinder engine can be a bit tricky to handle in slower traffic, as it tends to transition meekly in auto or too aggressively when downshifted with paddle and changing lanes. But once you get the hang of it, you can drive the Camaro V6 to its maximum potential and enjoy the ride. As for the interiors, the 2LT RS with leather and heads up display, navigation, onstar, electric seats, etc. is a significant upgrade from the base Camaro. The interior is absolutely awesome and has plenty of room up front for large adults with legs (more than the average mid-size sedan). It is a 2-seater car, but the back can easily accommodate family dogs over a padded cover.
-
Unreal! I'm so glad to hear that even after a few modifications and driving the car 20K miles in a year, you're still thoroughly impressed with it!

I recently rented a convertible in Hawaii with only 16 miles on it. While the V6 had good power at speed, it really struggled to do a burnout in 1st with traction off. The back seat was quite small, suitable mostly for gymnasts. However, the car looked very cool everywhere we went. Unfortunately, the navigation system was the worst I've ever dealt with. The controls for the stereo, heat, and navigation were incredibly frustrating to use. I ended up using my phone instead and tried to stay away from the buttons. It's disappointing that the technology wasn't more user-friendly. Even my 10-year-old TomTom is better! It's embarrassing that the car was designed in our country. Overall, I had mixed feelings about the Chevy.

At 73, I decided to purchase my last car. It was a convertible with a manual transmission and had less than 40 miles on it. I had it repainted in the old school black cherry colour for four thousand dollars and even had Lamborghini doors installed for eighteen hundred dollars. Additionally, I had the rims powder coated to match the car for six hundred and fifty bucks. As an old 72-year-old man, I am happy with how the car looks, but not as good looking as me - ha ha! However, the car started using oil, about one to one and a half quarts every two thousand miles. I went to the dealer and they put me on the Chevrolet Oil Consumption Program. To date, as of February 2018, I have driven 21 thousand miles and it still burns oil at the same rate. I have a letter from Chevrolet Customer Service Department on Chevrolet letterhead stating that the use of one quart of oil every two thousand miles is acceptable according to their guidelines. I spent thirty thousand dollars on a brand new car that burns oil, and Chevrolet's view is that it is acceptable. I like the car, or else I wouldn't have spent the extra money to get it the way I wanted it. However, I am not all warm and fuzzy over this. I have been driving different types of cars since I was 15, and I have never had a new car use oil between oil changes (which I change every 3 thousand miles). I am tired of them acting like it's normal. There has to be a reason why the car is using oil, or otherwise, every 2015 model would be using oil. I asked my dealer how many brand new Chevrolets use oil every two thousand miles, but he couldn't or didn't know. I believe it is important to find out if this is a common issue or not.

I noticed that the car can be quite noisy on the highway and the positioning of the gauge package can make it difficult to read some of the gauges. The power top can also be a bit tricky to close, requiring some muscle power to get it flush with the top of the windshield. Additionally, the car does not have push button starting and the ignition is located on the steering column in a place that cannot be seen from the driver's seat without leaning over. However, the car still has great lines and is visually appealing. On a recent trip to Northern Virginia, I deviated from the planned route and the navigation system did not recalculate as I expected it to. After contacting Chevrolet, I learned that the Nav system on my car does not recalculate. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving the car and have also purchased a Subaru Forester touring model. It looks like the sticker price is over $7000 less than the Camaro, and it comes with some great features like dual zone auto climate control, adaptive cruise control, lane deviation, obstacle avoidance, cd player, and push button start. These are all items that you won't find on the Camaro. It's no wonder that US manufacturers are losing to the imports.

The 2015 Camaro is a stunning car that looks like it's come straight out of a cartoon. With a powerful 6-cylinder engine that boasts 323 horsepower, this car has no trouble overtaking on dry roads. While the interior is not ideal for families, it's perfect for bachelors and empty nesters. The cockpit is well laid out, and all the instruments and controls are easy to reach. The car is incredibly agile and powerful, making it perfect for highway driving. However, it's not suitable for city driving, especially in wet conditions. The car's back end can slip out, causing accidents. The P-Zero Nero tires are only good on straight and dry roads in warm weather. Overall, the 2015 Camaro is a great car for dry roads and summertime, but not for city driving or wet conditions. If you're looking for a car that can handle all types of weather and driving conditions, this may not be the best choice for you.I returned the car to Bill Pierre Chevrolet in Seattle, and they kindly allowed me to trade it in. What a relief! I am now driving a much safer car with front-wheel drive and back seats. I must have been in some kind of trance to have driven the dangerous and ego-centered Camaro. Now, I can move on with my life without worrying about anyone watching me. No more ego trips or sliding around corners. If you look at the face of the 2017 Camaro, it appears too aggressive and mean, like an animal. The new Camaros are too fat in the rear and too unstable with the default tires, unless you are on a closed track. However, they are not suitable for commuting to work.

Is this a car? It looks pretty bad, almost gangsta style. I rented it because I had a choice, and I wanted to see what driving this thing is like. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. It's heavy, doesn't brake well, and doesn't steer properly. I won't be renting it again.

The car's design prioritizes its exterior size over interior space, which may not be ideal for some buyers. However, for those who prioritize a spacious interior, this may not be the best option. Additionally, some buyers may prefer a rear seat delete kit to create more storage space. Overall, it's important to consider your personal needs and preferences before making a decision. It's worth noting that the writer had some concerns with the car, but it's always best to test drive a vehicle before making a final decision.
