The Chevrolet Camaro is a mid-size American automobile manufactured by Chevrolet, classified as a pony car. It first went on sale on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year and was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang. The Camaro shared its platform and major components with the Firebird, produced by General Motors' Pontiac division that was also introduced for 1967.

Four distinct generations of the Camaro were developed before production ended in 2002. The nameplate was revived on a concept car that evolved into the fifth-generation Camaro; production started on March 16, 2009.

The Camaro was discontinued at the end of the 2024 model year. Production ended in December 2023. However, Chevrolet has stated, "This is not the end of Camaro's story."

Common 2013 Chevrolet Camaro problems

The 2013 Chevrolet Camaro has been known to have a few common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues:

  • Infotainment and Electrical Issues: Midway through the 5th-gen Chevrolet Camaro’s production run, GM gave it some interior upgrades, including a 7” center touchscreen and optional navigation. However, as these systems age, they can develop bugs, including slow-to-respond touchscreens and outright crashes. In addition, other owners have reported odd electrical glitches, including ones with the climate control. For example, some Camaros’ radios can randomly turn off, while others’ A/C systems won’t blow cold.
  • Starter Motor Problems: High-mileage 5th-gen Chevrolet Camaros can suffer from excessive hot air, which can prevent the engine from restarting after it has been turned off. This is often due to an overheated starter motor.
  • Engine Oil Cooler Replacement: The engine oil cooler in the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro may need to be replaced, which can be a costly repair. The average cost for this repair is between $673 and $746.
  • HVAC Blend Door Actuator Replacement: The HVAC blend door actuator in the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro may need to be replaced, which can also be a costly repair. The average cost for this repair is between $537 and $646.
  • Window Regulator Motor Replacement: The window regulator motor in the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro may need to be replaced, which can be a relatively expensive repair. The average cost for this repair is between $258 and $316.
  • Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement: The crankshaft position sensor in the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro may need to be replaced, which can be a moderately expensive repair. The average cost for this repair is between $131 and $177.
  • Passenger-Side Airbag Turned Off: Some 2011-2012 Chevrolet Camaro owners found that their passenger-side airbags were turned off even when someone was sitting up. This was due to the pads that hold the sensors in place being torn, preventing the sensors from functioning properly.

These are some of the most common problems reported by owners of the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro. While these issues can be frustrating, it’s important to note that many of them can be fixed with proper maintenance and repairs. If you’re considering purchasing a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro, be sure to have it inspected by a certified mechanic to ensure that any potential issues are caught before they become major problems.

They could give no information regarding repairs only recommending taking it to a dealer. A quick Goggle search reveals GM is aware of the problem but doesn't want to address it unless the NHTSA forces them to do so. Consumers have spent thousands of dollars trying to fix this issue to no avail. Loss of steering has caused some consumers to crash posing a significant danger to society as a whole. Please force GM to address this issue for the safety and security of society as a whole. There is currently a recall for the ignition swich which GM said has nothing to do with the steering issue.

My car took off with a high speed of acceleration with my brakes still applied, and accelerated out of control. It followed the same path back into the parking spot ( I could not stir it) jumped the curb and ran through a brick wall finally coming to a stop in the middle of the business. The engine was still racing and in drive but the car had finally stopped and in a state of rest. I had to put the car into park and kill the engine. I could not control the car, the engine was racing with high rpm’s on its own, and driving in “ auto pilot” for lack of better term. Not one air bag deployed despite the fact I ran through a brick wall and totaled the car.

  • Summary: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2013 Buick Verano, Chevrolet Camero, Sonic, and Volt vehicles. The driver-side air bag inflator may explode during deployment due to a manufacturing defect.
  • Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.
  • Remedy: Dealers will replace the driver-side air bag module, free of charge. On some 2013 Volt vehicles, the steering wheel will be replaced as well, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 23, 2023. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 and Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. 2019-09-19
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain replacement flip-key ignition transmitter assemblies sold as replacement equipment for 2010-2015 Chevrolet Camaro vehicles. GM dealers may have inadvertently sold these assemblies as replacement keys despite them having been recalled under NHTSA recall number 14V-346 (GM number 14294) when they were the original equipment assemblies. The driver may accidentally bump the ignition key with their knee, moving the ignition out of the run position and turning off the engine.
  • Consequence: Once the engine is off, the vehicle can lose power steering and power braking, increasing the risk of a crash. The air bags may not deploy in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace the key with the flat blade design, free of charge. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed November 6, 2019. Owners received a second notice and the recall began February 4, 2020. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N192223230.
2014-06-20
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling all 2010-2014 Chevrolet Camaro vehicles manufactured December 3, 2008 to May 23, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the driver may accidentally hit the ignition key with their knee, unintentionally knocking the key out of the run position, turning off the engine.
  • Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position could cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will remove the key blade from the original flip key/RKE transmitter assemblies, and provide two new keys and two key rings per key. The recall began August 25, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 14294. Note: Until the recall has been performed, it is very important that drivers adjust their seat and steering column to allow clearance between their knee and the ignition key.

  • Components: EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS
  • Summary: General Motors (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Coupes manufactured June 9, 2013, through September 6, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the required air bag warning label on the sun visor may peel off. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208 "Occupant Crash Protection."
  • Consequence: If the air bag warning label detaches from the visor, the driver and front seat passenger may not be warned of the risks of air bag deployment, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and instruct owners how to inspect the visor sticker. As necessary, dealers will replace the sun visor, free of charge. The recall began on October 28, 2013. Owners may contact GM at 1-800-521-7300. GM's recall campaign number is 13284.

Negative 2013 Chevrolet Camaro car reviews

  1. Bernard Crooks 2024-09-23

I have decided to trade in my Camaro for a Ford Mustang with a real V8 engine. The Camaro's Active Fuel Management (AFM) feature, which drops the V8 engine into 4-cylinder mode, has been a major disappointment. The AFM feature is not available on the manual transmission version of the car. Additionally, the automatic transmission version with an exhaust sounds unpleasant every time it switches to 4-cylinder mode. This has resulted in me burning more gas trying to accelerate the car back into V8 mode. I am confident that the Ford Mustang will provide a better driving experience without this feature.

  2. Jarret Thompson 2024-07-01

When I first picked up the car, it exhibited a loud creaking noise from bad front-end bushings. Additionally, the driver-side weather-stripping kept falling out of its channel. After 5 months of ownership, I noticed a slight shuddering during acceleration, which I initially thought was something with the motor. However, after four attempts, the mechanic diagnosed the issue as a bad transmission. Finally, I also noticed a metallic sound coming from the driver-side rear, which turned out to be loose lug nuts. I tightened them myself and the sound disappeared.

  3. Osvaldo Rowe 2024-05-11

Hello everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience with my 2113 Camaro 1LT Coupe. Unfortunately, I had some issues with the reliability and durability of the brand. While driving above 70 miles an hour, my entire tire assembly system, including the brake pads, broke apart. It was definitely a scary experience! I hope that my experience can help others make informed decisions about their own vehicles.

The SS Camaro is an incredibly exciting car to drive. The acceleration is so powerful that it feels like taking off in a rocket ship, with the force pushing you back into the seats. Despite all that power, the car handles it with ease, spinning the rear wheels effortlessly and recovering smoothly. The steering is also incredibly responsive, providing a tight and secure grip on the road even at high speeds. Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with the driveability and power of the Camaro SS, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is up for the challenge!

Hey there! I just wanted to share that I absolutely love my 2SS. I've been considering getting a Corvette, but it's such a great road car that I'm having a hard time letting it go.

I used to own a 2011 Camaro SS before I bought my 2013 Camaro ZL1 earlier this year. The difference in performance, power, and handling is huge! Every time I get in and drive this car, I feel like the king of the road. I can accelerate and pass the majority of cars or brake quickly to avoid accidents. Some reviews mention that it has a small trunk opening, small back seats, and is hard to see out of. However, I think it's like everything else - you just have to get used to it. I took care of that when I drove my 2011 Camaro SS. If I had to rate this car on a scale of 1 to 5, I would give it a 7+!

This car is a blast! I was looking for a fun daily driver that wouldn't break the bank and would be good on gas. This car delivers all that and more. The HUD display is incredibly helpful when you're driving fast, and the V6 engine is perfect for city driving - you can take tight corners without crashing into a tree. I absolutely love the leather heated seats, although the back seats are a bit cramped and only suitable for kids or emergencies. But let's be honest, you don't buy this kind of car for the back seat. The speakers are fantastic, and I really enjoy the LCD display in the center console. And don't be fooled - this V6 can easily go past 120, so you'll have plenty of speed for most people.
