2010 Chevrolet Camaro problems
The Chevrolet Camaro is a mid-size American automobile manufactured by Chevrolet, classified as a pony car. It first went on sale on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year and was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang. The Camaro shared its platform and major components with the Firebird, produced by General Motors' Pontiac division that was also introduced for 1967.
Four distinct generations of the Camaro were developed before production ended in 2002. The nameplate was revived on a concept car that evolved into the fifth-generation Camaro; production started on March 16, 2009.
The Camaro was discontinued at the end of the 2024 model year. Production ended in December 2023. However, Chevrolet has stated, "This is not the end of Camaro's story."

Common 2010 Chevrolet Camaro problems
The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro has been praised for its extraordinary acceleration, capable handling, excellent value, head-turning looks, unique interior design, and good fuel economy. However, like any vehicle, it has some common problems that owners have reported.
Paint Chips
One of the most common complaints about the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is paint chips. Owners have reported finding paint chips every time they wash or inspect their cars, even when they park in the nosebleed section of parking lots to prevent door dings. These chips are large chunks of paint missing, revealing the gray primer underneath. Some owners have also reported that the paint is flaking off in the seams where the hood meets the fenders.
Electrical Issues
Another common problem with the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is electrical issues. Some owners have reported that their passenger-side airbags turned off even when someone was sitting in the passenger seat. This was due to the pads that hold the sensors in place being torn, preventing the sensors from functioning properly.
Infotainment and Electrical Issues
Starting in 2013, the 2010-2015 Camaro offered a 7” center touchscreen and optional navigation. However, as these cars age, they sometimes develop infotainment bugs, including slow-to-respond touchscreens and outright crashes. Other owners have reported odd electrical glitches, including ones with the climate control, such as radios randomly turning off and A/C systems not blowing cold air.
Starter Motor Problems
High-mileage 2010-2015 Chevrolet Camaros can suffer from starter motor problems. Often, this is due to an overheated starter motor, making it difficult to restart the car after turning it off.
Engine-Related Problems
The 2010-2015 Chevrolet Camaro has several notable engine-related problems, but a few are specific to the 3.6-liter V6. By now, all used 2010-2015 Chevrolet Camaros should have replacement airbag sensors, torque converters, ignition switches, and keys. Additionally, Camaro Convertibles often suffer premature soft-top wear, but it's addressable. SS models may also have leaking oil coolers.
Power Steering and Power Braking
Once the engine is off, the vehicle can lose power steering and power braking, increasing the risk of a crash. The airbags may not deploy in a crash, which can be a significant safety concern.
In summary, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is a powerful and capable vehicle with some common problems that owners have reported. These include paint chips, electrical issues, infotainment and electrical glitches, starter motor problems, and engine-related issues. It's essential to be aware of these problems when considering purchasing a used 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic before making a purchase.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-26
- Number Of Injuries: 2
- VIN: 2G1FB1EV4A9
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: My 2010 camaro has the 3.6 v6 engine in it. I had no warning lights or issues with the car. I got in my car and started to drive on a highway the engine exploded on me and I swerved out of control luckily being able to stop the car on the right side of the road. I had the car towed to my house where it sat for months unable to be driven. I have been doing more and more research trying to figure out why it blew up. Me and my passenger could have died that day with how badly the force of the engine through the car out of control. And the chunks of steel that flew from under my car almost killed 2 kids in a car behind me. And upon talking to an associate who is a gm certified mechanic but he doesn't work for a dealership his diagnosis was the timing chain went bad prematurely and snapped and set off a chain reaction making the motor explode. During my time researching I have discovered this issue is already known by general motors for this engine having premature timing chain wear down. I have pictures of other 2010 camaro owners complaints of this issue. I also am aware gm has faced several class action law suits due to this issue. They put a recall out on the engine but specific vin numbers. So when I called gm customer service asking why I can't get my car repaired and my engine replaced they told me it was due to not being a vin number they included in the recalls even though they are aware it is the same engine. The recall should be for all vin numbers for this engine. My safety as well as others safety was put at risk for a known defect. This issue could happen to anyone with this engine and people could be killed due to it and those that survive the situation when it arises get left without a working vehicle. Now my car sits in my driveway without an engine. There should be a mass recall for all the engines. EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-01
- VIN: 2G1FC1EV1A9
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: The headlight assembly has a reflective plate and has a manufactures defect that is a safety hazard. The reflective plate becomes yellow due to the heat of the HID light bulbs and causes the low beam lights to become dim and not put out the required output for safety and visibility. This part can not be replaced individually and the whole headlight assembly has to be replaced at a cost of $1200 per each side. Changing out the HID bulb with a comparable one does not increase the visibility either. I’ve taken my car to the dealership and have it on record what is wrong with it and that there is no other reason for the dim headlight other than that one defective piece. The visibility is awful.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-08
- VIN: 2G1FT1EW7A9
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: January 2023.. Structural Crack in the air bag dash location/passenger side...Looking at it more closely the crack continues in a perfect oval pattern. As of yet the car component in question has not been inspect by a dealer or others. When sitting back in the front passenger seat i can see that the dash is humped up in just that area..the oval area. This oval area is just above the word air bag on the face of the dash. My concern is that if this is the airbag it could deploy and injury myself and others and cause a serious accident. the car has approximately 74,000 miles on it
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-09-17
- VIN: 2G1FF1EV9A9
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: My name is Kenneth Brown 'Kenny', and I purchased my 2010 Chevy Camaro 1LT 3.6L V6 from Ron Tonkin Chevrolet here in Portland, Oregon right off of their lot brand new. Now on the the bigger issue that has never been addressed to this day...the faulty 3.6L V6 motor. If you were to look at the wrecking yards across the country, you will find many 2010 & some early 2011 Camaro's with dead motors well before 75k miles, because my motor went out at 69K miles in 2017. McLaughlin Chevrolet the Dealership that replaced my motor stated that "They don't replace motors with only 69k miles on them", but they did, and that wouldn't be the last motor replacement they would do on the same car! Two weeks before the warranty expired on the replacement motor in September 2020 with 102,233 miles, McLaughlin Chevrolet replaced the GM vendor replacement motor with what is currently in my car. So is it normal to have had (3) OEM GM motors in one car with just 102k miles? There is a more serious/dangerous underlining issue here that GM, or anyone will acknowledge, and that is, just before the two previous motors went out, there was this engine warning light that has popped up each time, and that was the "Engine Power is Reduced". And where the safety concern lies is when this engine warning light comes on, it reduces your engine power almost down to a complete stop. How wonderful it is when your in heave traffic doing 45mph to 50mph and you loose engine power in heavy traffic! Now GM has attributed the engine warning light to a Timing belt issue, and this has been an issue since 2010. When this warning light comes on, not only is the engine power reduced, the bigger issue is that the power steering is reduced drastically. If you are not a seasoned driver that has driven a vehicle that has no power steering in it, then it becomes a serious issue...RIGHT, especially when your in heave traffic doing 45 to 50mph, because it put me right into the retaining cement barrier on the highway

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-02-11
- VIN: 2G1FC1EV8A9
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: My 2010 Chevy Camaro has a check engine light for a code P0008 which is an engine preformace bank 1 code. It is affecting my acceleration. I have noticed with other General Motors vehicles that have the 3.6L V6 have thrown this code for a timing chain issue around 100,000 miles and I belive other makes and models have been recalled for this issue and was concerned that it could be unsafe. I also wanted to know why this has not already been recalled on this make and model but has on others. If you could look in to this that would be great. Thank you

- Components: WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: TPMS SYSTEM AND REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY FAILS TO OPERATE CORRECTLY AFTER INSTALLING NEW TIRES. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM EVEN WITH A CHANGE TO THE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE. GM REPORTS THAT SOME TIRES HAVE TOO MUCH STEEL IN THE BELTS CAUSING THE SIGNALS TO BE BLOCKED OR BE INTERMITTENT WHICH CAN CAUSE DRIVERS TO DRIVE ON UNDER INFLATED TIRES. FAILURE OCCURS IN ANY TYPE OF DRIVING. GM NEEDS TO REPLACE THE SENSORS WITH ONES THAT PROVIDE A STRONGER SIGNAL TO COMPLY WITH THE TREAD ACT.
POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM

- Summary: THE AIRBAG ALERT LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND OFF. THIS HAPPENS STATIONARY, MOVING, WHEN SOMEONE IS THE SEAT OR NOT, ON BUMPY ROADS, AND ALL SPEEDS. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC, WHO SAID IT'S THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THAT NEEDS REPLACING. HE SUGGESTED I GO TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE IT. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $800 TO FIX IT. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING MEANWHILE AND THIS LOOKS LIKE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2010 CAMARO. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY I WOULD BE ASKED TO PAY THAT MUCH TO FIX SOMETHING THAT ISN'T MY FAULT AND IN FACT APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURING ERROR. ON TOP OF THAT, THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE ME $150 TO DIAGNOSE WHAT I TOLD THEM WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN!!!!

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-10-02
- VIN: 2G1FA1EV2A9
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: A 'SERVICE AIRBAG' NOTIFICATION HAS BEEN TURNING ON SPORADICALLY WHILE DRIVING MY 2010 CAMARO (REGARDLESS OF SPEED AND/OR IF A PASSENGER IS IN THE CAR). WHEN I TOLD MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHILE I WAS THERE GETTING AN OIL CHANGE, THE EMPLOYEE TOLD ME IT WOULD COST $120 FOR THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSTIC AND THAT IF I GET INTO A CAR ACCIDENT MY AIRBAG WOULDN'T DEPLOY. I THINK IT'S UNFAIR AND IRRESPONSIBLE OF THEM TO CHARGE FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC, FROM WHAT I'VE READ ONLINE, MANY OTHER INDIVIDUALS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE 2010 CAMARO AND GM KNOWS ABOUT THE DEFECT AND THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY. THE FACT THAT THIS IS STILL NOT A RECALL IS CRIMINALLY NEGLECTFUL AND I BELIEVE THERE IS CURRENTLY A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST THE COMPANY.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-08-01
- VIN: 2G1FB1EV9A9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: WATER SHORTED THE APP CIRCUITS AND CAUSED THE THROTTLE TO ACTIVATE WITH OUT DRIVER INPUT. WATER IS A POTENTIAL CAUSE FOR SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH POTENTIOMETER TYPE APP SENSOR'S THROUGH EXTENSIVE RESEARCH BETWEEN AUGUST 2019 AND SEPTEMBER 2020, I HAVE DETERMINED THAT A WATER INTRUSION PROBLEM INTO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL (IP) TO BODY HARNESS CONNECTOR, WHICH CARRIES THE APP SENSOR SIGNALS TO THE ECM/PCM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN MANY OF THE 2005-2018 GM PRODUCT LINE. WATER CAN ENTER THE CONNECTOR THROUGH BODY LEAKS AND MAY CAUSE AN INCREASE IN VOLTAGE ON APP 1 AND APP 2. ON SOME VEHICLES THIS CAN ALSO CAUSE A MALFUNCTION IN THE BPP/BRAKE SWITCH STATUS CIRCUIT. AS A RESULT THIS MALFUNCTION CAN MISTAKENLY APPEAR AS A PEDAL MISAPPLICATION IN THE EDR REPORT FROM THE SDM. THIS FINDING APPLIES TO MANY OTHER VEHICLE USING A POTENTIOMETER TYPE APP SENSOR BUT THE RESEARCH WAS DONE SPECIFICALLY ON GM VEHICLES. I HAVE ALSO DETERMINED WATER INTRUSION INTO THE CONNECTOR 109 ON THE FULL SIZE TRUCK LINE HAS THE POSSIBILITY TO CAUSE FALSE ACTIVATION OF THE APP CIRCUIT. USING WATER I HAVE CONFIRMED THAT WATER CAN CAUSE THE VOLTAGE INCREASE ON APP CIRCUIT 1 AND APP CIRCUIT 2 AND NOT ENTER REDUCED POWER MODE, IT ALL COMES DOWN TO SURFACE AREA EXPOSED AND SODIUM CONTENT IN THE WATER AS TO THE FINAL RESULTS. AS THESE VEHICLES BECOME OLDER THE LIKELY HOOD OF THESE EVENTS OCCURRING INCREASES. VEHICLES NEAR SALT WATER OR WHERE SALT IS USED ON THE ROADS ARE MORE LIKELY TO FAIL WITH HIGHER APP %. BECAUSE OF THE KNOWN WATER LEAK INTO THE CONNECTOR'S CONTAINING APP WIRES AND VERIFICATION THAT WATER CAN CAUSE FALSE ACTIVATION OF THE APP CIRCUITS. IT IS MY CONCLUSION IN RARE EVENTS THIS WATER COULD CAUSE FALSE ACTIVATION OF BOTH APP SIGNAL IN MANY OF THE 2005-2018 GM VEHICLES. THIS VEHICLE WAS USED FOR CONFIRMATION.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

- Summary: THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE BECOME PROGRESSIVELY DIMMER OVER TIME. REPLACING THE BULBS AND THE BALLAST DOES NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. WHAT HAPPENS IS THE REFLECTOR INSIDE THE PROJECTOR STARTS TO FAIL WHICH DIRECTLY AFFECTS THE LIGHT OUTPUT. THE ONLY FIX FOR THIS IS COMPLETELY NEW HEADLIGHT HOUSINGS.WHICH ARE ALMOST $2,000 JUST FOR THE ASSEMBLIES. AS OF NOW IT IS LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE AT NIGHT SAFELY.
2010 Chevrolet Camaro recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain replacement flip-key ignition transmitter assemblies sold as replacement equipment for 2010-2015 Chevrolet Camaro vehicles. GM dealers may have inadvertently sold these assemblies as replacement keys despite them having been recalled under NHTSA recall number 14V-346 (GM number 14294) when they were the original equipment assemblies. The driver may accidentally bump the ignition key with their knee, moving the ignition out of the run position and turning off the engine.
- Consequence: Once the engine is off, the vehicle can lose power steering and power braking, increasing the risk of a crash. The air bags may not deploy in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace the key with the flat blade design, free of charge. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed November 6, 2019. Owners received a second notice and the recall began February 4, 2020. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N192223230.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling all 2010-2014 Chevrolet Camaro vehicles manufactured December 3, 2008 to May 23, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the driver may accidentally hit the ignition key with their knee, unintentionally knocking the key out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position could cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will remove the key blade from the original flip key/RKE transmitter assemblies, and provide two new keys and two key rings per key. The recall began August 25, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 14294. Note: Until the recall has been performed, it is very important that drivers adjust their seat and steering column to allow clearance between their knee and the ignition key.
- Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY:CABLES
- Summary: GM IS RECALLING 1,243 MY 2010 CHEVROLET CAMARO EQUIPPED WITH A V8 ENGINE. THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE MAY CONTACT THE STARTER MOTOR HOUSING AND CAUSE WEAR ON THE CABLE INSULATION. IF THE INSULATION WEARS THROUGH TO THE CABLE, IT COULD CREATE A SHORT.
- Consequence: A SHORT COULD RESULT IN A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO RESTART, OR RESULT IN AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REROUTE THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE TO ENSURE ADEQUATE CLEARANCE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 6, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438 OR AT WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.

High Performance at a reasonable price with great drivability
-
Don't worry about the previous poor reviews, this car is amazing! I recently purchased the SI Synergy Green package and the car looks fantastic. I was concerned about the reviews mentioning faulty paint, but I can confirm that this is not the case. On the day I brought the car home, the main road by my house was being repaved and there was debris all over the road, including raised manholes. Despite this, there was no damage to the car at all. The 6-cylinder engine also has a lot of power. I would recommend skipping the sunroof as it doesn't look great when opened and takes away from the car's sleek design. It only took me a couple of minutes to get used to the smaller window views. Enjoy your new car!

The car has some great exterior body lines and excellent straight line performance. The Multimatic paddle shifters are precise and have minimal to no shift delay. It handles close to the Mustang GT but not quite as well. The independent rear suspension creates a smoother ride than the Mustang. The 14 inch Brembos really help with stopping distances. The cloth seats are comfortable and look good. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't an option for interior color other than black because it shows dust easily. Additionally, some of the interior sight lines are difficult to see out of, especially in the back, but this is overcome by well-placed mirrors. Overall, I'm really enjoying the car and am pleasantly surprised by the current fuel economy of 17 MPG, which is higher than expected.

It's easy to sit down in and it's very fast. Your Camaro is an SS, 2SS with the RS package. I'm so glad to hear that you love your Camaro. It sounds like it's everything you ever hoped for and much more!

I've owned my 2010 Camaro for nearly two years now and, aside from the tire pressure sensor and some paint issues, it's been a great ride. It's black and I've had a lot of people, including police officers, ask to take a closer look at it.

I owned a 2010 Camaro SS for just over 2 years. While I tried to convince myself that I liked the car, I found it difficult to enjoy. When asked about it, I would say it was 'fun', but in reality, it handled poorly and had terrible visibility. Despite being fast, it was not a true sports car and the advertised MPG was not accurate. I have since switched to a smaller, lighter, and more enjoyable RWD vehicle that offers a better driving experience.

This car is everything I hoped it would be. The ride is perfect and the car steers great on the road. The silver ice color I picked is so appealing to the eyes. I have had so many people turning their heads to see how great the car stands out.

I've had the car for 2 months now, and I'm considering selling it. Unfortunately, it's too big and heavy, and the driving visibility and seating position are poor. Despite the hype, the finished product doesn't quite match up. It seems that for GM, this is a high-margin vehicle that sells well due to great marketing and visual style. That's actually how I got hooked in the first place! However, I don't quite understand when other buyers say that this car handles great. Compared to what? As someone who has owned 3 different 70's muscle cars, I find the retro formula to be quite disappointing. If you're interested in buying one, I have one available at a discount!

I received a small door ding on my passenger's door and took my car to Young Chevrolet to have it fixed. I was assured that the paint would be matched and restored to showroom quality. However, after 9 attempts, the paint still cannot be matched. In addition, there is a deep scratch on one of my side windows, swirl marks on my striping, and paint chips. Despite my concerns, the dealership has refused to take any further action, including replacing the damaged glass or stripes.
