Isuzu Motors Ltd. (Japanese: いすゞ自動車株式会社, Hepburn: Isuzu Jidōsha Kabushiki-Kaisha), commonly known as Isuzu (Japanese pronunciation: , /iˈsuzu/), is a Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer headquartered in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. Its principal activity is the production, marketing and sale of Isuzu commercial vehicles and diesel engines.
The company also has a number of subsidiaries and joint ventures, including UD Trucks, Anadolu Isuzu (a Turkish joint venture with Anadolu Group), Sollers-Isuzu (a Russian joint venture with Sollers JSC - Production stopped in March 2022, Isuzu stake transferred to Sollers in July 2023), SML Isuzu (an Indian venture formerly known as Swaraj Mazda), Jiangxi Isuzu Motors (a Chinese joint venture with Jiangling Motors Company Group), Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia, Isuzu Malaysia (Isuzu HICOM), Industries Mécaniques Maghrébines, Isuzu UK, Isuzu South Africa, Isuzu Philippines, Taiwan Isuzu Motors, Isuzu Vietnam, Isuzu Motors India and BYD Isuzu.
Isuzu has assembly and manufacturing plants in Fujisawa, which have been there since the company was founded under earlier names, as well as in the Tochigi and Hokkaidō prefectures. Isuzu-branded vehicles are sold in most commercial markets worldwide. Isuzu's primary market focus is on commercial diesel-powered truck, buses and construction.
Named after the Isuzu River, the kanji of Isuzu (五十鈴) mean "fifty bells".

Common Isuzu problems
Isuzu cars, particularly the Isuzu D-Max, have been known for their reliable 3.0L engine and off-road capabilities. However, there are some common problems that owners have reported.
One of the most common issues is the short lifespan of front wheel bearings, with some owners reporting failure at less than 50,000km. This can be addressed by regular maintenance and inspection of the front wheel bearings every 30,000km, as well as using appropriate grease and allowing the vehicle to cool down before plunging into cold water.
Another problem is engine bay cracks, which have been reported by many D-Max and MU-X owners. These cracks are caused by stress or metal fatigue and are most likely to show up on the suspension towers, near the VIN plate, or low down on the inner guards. Chassis cracks have also been reported, mainly at the front where heavy bull-bars and winches have been fitted.
Isuzu Ute Australia has also been criticized for its conduct towards customers, particularly when it comes to repairs outside of warranty. In one example, a customer was quoted $4000 for a faulty injector pump and electrical fault, which the customer found excessive. The customer contacted Isuzu head office, but was told that Isuzu was difficult to deal with and gave very little due to the size of the company.
In addition, the Isuzu D-Max and MU-X have been recalled due to a manufacturing defect that could cause a loss of steering. The recall affects 15,542 examples of the 2020-2022 Isuzu D-Max and MU-X, which were built in Thailand between June 2020 and October 2022. The defect could lead to a complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death.
Overall, while the Isuzu D-Max and MU-X are popular choices for touring and serious off-roading, there are some common problems that owners should be aware of. Regular maintenance and inspection of the front wheel bearings, as well as being aware of potential engine bay cracks and dealing with Isuzu Ute Australia's conduct towards customers, can help mitigate some of these issues. The recent recall due to a manufacturing defect that could cause a loss of steering is a serious safety concern that affects a significant number of vehicles, and owners should contact their nearest authorized dealer to schedule an appointment to confirm the tension of the lower steering shaft attaching bolt is at the correct torque specification, free of charge.

- Summary: In Florida, I purchased my 2004 Isuzu Rodeo March 2005 at 134 miles. I've always had issues, but didn't know how to articulate the issues. My truck sits/leans to the right and low in the back. It is uneven as if the shocks or struts are off. Driving one night, the truck slams down/drops low out of no where while driving. When I am driving and need to brake, I have to brake then brake again. I dare not make any sharp turns by parking or anything it's like the truck will slip or axels bend. I am have trouble with the engine currently(September 2022). Oil is leaking but you can't see from where. The engine is making loud rambling sounds. The exhaust sounds muffled. My car parts are not exact because my Rodeo is built like a demo, seemingly. Power Reduced & check engine light happens randomly usually while on the expressway. It slows the vehicle down in the middle of flowing traffic. I have to try to pull over turn car off then back on to try & reset the vehicle. The car now vibrates but don't know from where or cause. How can I get my car repaired?

The contact stated while driving downhill at 40 MPH around a curve with a child sitting in the rear seat, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. Additionally, the contact stated that upon turning the steering wheel, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact continued driving until the vehicle responded. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while her son was driving the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the subframe was severely fractured. - Summary: The contact owns a 2001 Isuzu Trooper. The contact stated while entering and starting the vehicle, he noticed an extreme heat in the interior of the vehicle coming from the engine. The contact proceeded to shift the gear into drive however, while his foot was still on the brake pedal the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact had to pulled up the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times afterwards. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure as a bypass for the fuel line and brake line failure that needed to be replaced however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause for the heat entering the vehicle from the engine. The mechanic was able repair the vehicle however, the contact was concerned that the heat coming from the engine would eventually destroy the engine and the vehicle would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 101,000.

Due to a manufacturing issue, the NADI inflators may absorb moisture, causing the inflators to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, an inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants. An underinflated air bag cushion may not properly protect the occupant. These scenarios increase the risk of serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver frontal air bag inflator, and replace it if necessary, with an inflator of a different design, free of charge. - Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x; 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL; and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier and Isuzu Ascender vehicles. Fluid may enter the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. The short may also cause overheating, which could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke, or a fire.
- Consequence: A short in the circuit board could lead to a fire, increasing the risk of personal injury. A fire could occur even while the vehicle is not in use. As a precaution, owners are advised to park outside until the remedy has been made.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the part number on the door module, and install a new door module if necessary, free of charge. Parts for the remedy are not currently available. An interim letter was mailed to owners in August 2014. A second owner letter will be mailed when parts are available. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-462-8782 (GMC), 1-800-955-9007 (SAAB), and 1-800-255-6727 (Isuzu).
