2018 Chevrolet Camaro problems
The Chevrolet Camaro is a mid-size American automobile manufactured by Chevrolet, classified as a pony car. It first went on sale on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year and was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang. The Camaro shared its platform and major components with the Firebird, produced by General Motors' Pontiac division that was also introduced for 1967.
Four distinct generations of the Camaro were developed before production ended in 2002. The nameplate was revived on a concept car that evolved into the fifth-generation Camaro; production started on March 16, 2009.
The Camaro was discontinued at the end of the 2024 model year. Production ended in December 2023. However, Chevrolet has stated, "This is not the end of Camaro's story."

Common 2018 Chevrolet Camaro problems
The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro has been praised for its balanced combination of power, handling, and comfort, making it a popular choice in the sports car market. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its common problems.
One issue that some 2018 Camaro owners have reported is transmission-related problems, specifically with the car not shifting into gears correctly. This issue can cause difficulty in both upshifting and downshifting, making the driving experience uncomfortable and potentially dangerous.
Another problem that has been reported by some 2018 Camaro owners is the power steering shutting off randomly, requiring excessive force to maneuver the vehicle. This issue can be particularly concerning, as it can lead to loss of control and potential accidents.
While the 2018 Camaro has fewer complaints than previous model years, it is still important for potential buyers to be aware of these common issues. Proper maintenance and regular inspections can help to identify and address these problems before they become more serious.
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity of the Camaro, as it can help to prevent major engine or transmission overhauls around the 150,000-mile mark. Following the manufacturer's suggested maintenance routine, including regular oil changes, tire rotations, and inspections, can help to ensure the reliability and longevity of the vehicle.
In summary, while the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro is a popular and capable sports car, it is not without its common problems. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues and take steps to ensure proper maintenance and regular inspections to help prevent more serious problems down the line.

- VIN: 1G1FH3D78J0
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the transmission shuddered. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable and was towed to the residence. The dealer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not under warranty. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission fluid needed to be flushed and refilled. The independent mechanic made the contact aware of Technical Service Bulletin Number: 18-NA-355. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was included in Technical Service Bulletin Number: 18-NA-355. The failure mileage was approximately 26,530.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-01
- VIN: 1G1FJ1R61J0
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Rack and pinion system failed. I lost steering while driving on the highway almost causing me to crash. I called gm about taking in my car because i saw there was a recall on my year and model for this issue but when i gave them my vin number they said mine was not included. I asked them if my car is having the same issue as the recall and my year and model was recalled how can they tell me my vin number is not on the recall, they told me it was not so they could not fix it. It was looked at by a steering shop and there verified that the assist power steering motor was broke ( the assist motor is what the recall was done for by gm). There was a light that came on the first time and has everytime i start the car ( Service power Steering).
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-04-20
- VIN: 1G1FB3DS6J0
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Glass window in rear of convertible top is separating from the top. I am concerned it will completely separate while driving and strike another vehicle on the highway. The issue was there when purchased (NEW from dealer), just did not know what the bubbles meant. This vehicle has less than 40,000 mile, and window is ~25% separated.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-01
- VIN: 1G1FH1R77J0
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE
- Summary: The ignition switch shorted, a fuse shorted and these symptoms revealed a bigger problem. The holding area for the tire in the rear (does not hold a tire because of space issue) was repurposed by the manufacturer to mount the rear fuse box and amp. When the sunroof overflows or gasket allows moisture to build this area holds water. Unknown water source at this time but there is no drain for the water directed here to go out. Subsequently the electrical is exposed to water causing a fire hazard while driving or running. In my case it melted various relays and wiring harnesses but I was able to find before the fire started. This is also in the vicinity of the fuel tank causing an extreme hazard. When researching I found this model car there were many that had reported it. This could have been extremely dangerous fire while operating and is completely preventable with small alteration. Water should not be directed to this area if it will not have a way to vacate and they have repurposed the area in this way.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-05
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- Fire: 1
- VIN: 1G1FD1RS2J0

I had reported that the service airbag alert was on when I first got the vehicle at carmax and they told us to take it to the chevy service center . I picked up the car a few days later and was told that it was fixed but after the accident , I'm sure it wasnt.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-08-01
- VIN: 1G1FH1R74J0
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Car feels like you are driving over rumble strips when the road is clearly smooth. Tried buying new tires and nothing would fix it. Then looked online and found many thousands of people having same issue that has affected all gm 8 speed transmissions for several years. There is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) 18-NA-355 on it due to how many people have had this issue. It explains that GM was using fluid that had water issues in it causing all these issues and that the fix is to have it flushed out and replaced with something better. GM was replacing the fluid themselves on unsold vehicles but any that were sold are apparently on their own as they want well over $600 to replace the fluid due to their incompetence. I get that things happen but companies should own up to their mistakes and just fix them. Not asking for anything special just fix your mistake and call it good. Called them and they just want to give a generic response of "you should get that looked at and fixed". Have been a large family of GM only vehicles but we have bought our last one.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-19
- VIN: 1G1FB1RS3J0
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The contact owns a Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 MPH, the power steering system failed, and the steering wheel became very stiff. The vehicle veered to the side of the road where it was restarted and driven to the residence. Additionally, the contact stated that the power steering warning light might have been illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.

- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-23
- VIN: 1G1FB1RS3J0
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Manufacturer default in the trunk. Water is getting into the trunk causing water to fill up in the battery compartment. Thus, shutting the vehicle electrical system down completely. After researching, I contacted GM who stated that they are unaware of this issue, although many people who own this type of vehicle have had this issue occur.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-30
- VIN: 1G1FB1RS3J0
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that a manufacturer defect had caused moisture to seep into the trunk compartment. As a result, water had leaking into the battery compartment which had caused the vehicle to shut off while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the defect was confirmed, and the contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-25
- VIN: 1G1FH1R71J0
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: I’ve been experiencing my acceleration and brake pedal engaging without my intervention. While driving , a sudden unintended acceleration will occur followed by the brakes engaging by itself. With the sudden acceleration, fail to accelerate, & delay stopping, all of these factors can cause danger to both the passengers in the car, including myself & others on the road around me which is a very big safety issue. In addition , with the problems i was experiencing & engine light being on my display i took the vehicle to be inspected by Don Mealey Chevrolet in Clermont, Florida 347811 on March 31st 2023 . The DTCs Read showed Active, failure code0x00: P0700 Transmission Control System(MIL Request).
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-13
- VIN: 1G1FB3DSXJ0
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: The back window is separating from the top the back window is falling out exactly as described in this other TSA and when this is brought to Chevy attention the say it's not covered even though the car only has 32k miles on it and an extended CPO warranty. I have taken the car to classic Chevrolet in grapevine for them to tell me it's not covered. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10154647-9999.pdf
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-05
- VIN: 1G1FE1R70J0
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Part number 12703596 that feeds the fuel line has an L bracket that holds the line in place. This bracket is secured to the CylinderbHead on the driverside of the vehicle. The bracket separated from the fuel line at the weld creating a hole. This caused a fuel leak. This fuel leak sprayed fuel down the backside of the engine towards the exhaust. Luckily I did not cause a fire.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-13
- VIN: 1G1FH1R75J0
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Exhaust-Piece that holds exhaust together has come loose twice now. Dealership confirmed the cause was due to a poor manufacture weld. The dealership has replaced the exhaust once, and this time the manufacturer is only agreeing to pay a portion of the cost. It was replaced less than two years ago and the car is driven less than 12,000 mi a year. Safety issue- because the piece that holds the exhaust together is welded on poorly (please see picture) and easily falls off. This is also a serious health hazard because when there are cracks in the exhaust fumes are inhaled. I would appreciate it if NHTSA would investigate this issue, as my next step is to file a lemon law claim.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-02-01
- VIN: 1G1FD1RS9J0
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Car will say “shift to park” warning message even with car in the selected gear of “park”. Happens at least 5 times a week, and I have to turn my car on, back up or pull forward put the car in park, try to turn it off and I will be met with the error message. I have to try this numerous times before it finally realizes the car is in park. I fear if the car comes out of park it will roll down a hill and hurt someone. There is an open recall on Chevy malibus for the same exact reason, hopefully the same can be done for the Camaro and other GM products being affected.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-26
- VIN: 1G1FD1RS9J0
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Appears the vehicle alerts to “Shift to Park” when the vehicle is in park. Cannot lock the vehicle. Beeps constantly to put in park even though the car is actually in park.

- VIN: 1G1FB3DS6J0
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: I have a 2018 Camaro Convertible. There is a known issue with the convertible tops on these cars. The rear glass separates from the top because of a manufacturing defect. I was told this is not a recall but other Camaro owners reported that GM replaced the top for them at no cost if you make a formal complaint/request. I reached out to GM directly and they told me to visit this webites instead. I am attaching photos.
POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-07-01
- VIN: 1G1FB1RX6J0
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: Since I’ve purchased this vehicle I have been having issues with the transmission and engine providing the accurate amount of power as it relates to the acceleration. The persistent issue is the gear shifting lags and rumbles my vehicle each time I accelerate up a hill, accelerating from g20-30mph and it rumbles the gear. I was told the diagnosis was with the spark plugs having an issue on multiple occasions. I’ve changed the spark plugs several times along with maintaining everything else within the vehicle. This problem still persist. In 2019 my vehicle stopped on the road and the issue pointed to the computer module. I got the module replaced but the problem still persisted. This is unacceptable and there needs to be an investigation done as my car has shut down due to this issue, lost power in mid-traffic and who knows what else issues this is causing. If there is not proper function in this area then it will be detrimental to the safety of the driver. I also have records of my visits at the dealer as I brought this to their attention but was brushed off as it being a spark plug issue.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-03-20
- Fire: 1
- VIN: 1G1FB1RS4J0
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: CAMARO'S REAR COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX IS UNDER THE MAT IN THE TRUNK. SOMEHOW THE WATER GOES INSIDE THE TRUNK, WHICH IS EXPECTED BECAUSE THE TRUNK IS FOR STORAGE OR TRANSFER G THE GROCERY. SHORT CKT HAPPENS BECAUSE OF THAT. MOREOVER, THE TRUNK DOOR GETS OPEN WHILE DRIVING AND GETTING SMOKE AND GETTING 100% OF CHANCE OF FIRE IF I DON'T TAKE A NECESSARY STEP. I'm so happy to hear that you think it's the best!

I recently purchased a low mileage 2018 Camaro in garnet red. Although the interior is basic and quite dark, I find the 4 cylinder turbo to be quite peppy in higher RPM's. The ride can be a bit harsh, and the car sits very low to the ground, which can be a bit of a challenge for the driver. However, I absolutely love the entertainment system with android auto, and I've received a lot of compliments while driving. The AC and HVAC work very well, and while there are no heated seats, the cabin warms up quickly. I traded in a mint lifted Nissan frontier, but I had a great dealer who gave me a good price. Overall, I'm really enjoying the car so far!
-
I have owned a variety of vehicles, including mustangs, motorcycles, momentum cars (FRS), and a C7 Corvette (Grand Sport). However, this car is by far the best of them all. It boasts more power, better handling, and is a superior daily driver. The car's capabilities are well beyond most drivers, with near super car performance that is not an exaggeration. While looks are subjective, I receive many compliments on the car's design. Car enthusiasts recognize it for what it is, while non-car people dismiss it as just a Camaro, making it a bit of a sleeper. I particularly love the front end of the car, which is both menacing and understated. The car is very comfortable for long trips, but can easily be switched to a stiff, well-handling corner carver that is as good or better than much smaller momentum cars. Unlike my previous Mustangs, which always felt like they were going to go out of control when pushed, the Camaro handles just like my Corvette - very stable and predictable. The Corvette was great, but the lower ride height had it scraping on everything and there was a lot less room inside - I am 6’3 220 lbs. The Recaros are more comfortable than the Corvette seats, especially on long trips. The visibility out of the ZL1 is about the same as it was out of the Corvette - it’s not great but you get used to it and it is not a factor once you adjust to it. There is hardly any storage, but the trunk is big enough. The motor is beyond comparison - if you baby it on a trip you can get 29mpg average but if you put your foot down at all, that number drops considerably. The power is very predictable and linear throughout the rev range with no big hits, just face-flattening acceleration. It feels a lot like the LT1, just with more power everywhere. The car is quite sensitive to tire changes. Currently, I have PS4 tires on it for better mileage, but I will likely switch back to a stickler tire when these are done. The current tires tend to spin easily under power and feel a little less planted. The 10-speed auto is outstanding, always in the right gear, or you can shift it yourself with very quick shifts. It is on par with a dual clutch. This car is so underrated. It easily has performance on par with cars costing twice as much while also being roomy and comfortable when desired. In my opinion, this is the best all-around performance car out there today.
-
This car will make you proud to drive a Chevrolet. The way it reacts on the pavement will make you eager to get your foot on the pedal and your hands on the wheel, so you can hit the road in your Chevrolet Camaro!
-
I still absolutely love my Camaro! The performance and handling are both fantastic, and it's such a beautiful car. I really appreciate how different it feels depending on the mode selected, and the engine sounds amazing - especially since I added a new catback exhaust. It's the perfect combination of classic American muscle and modern performance sports car. I'm already planning on getting headers once the warranty runs out. Even after 3 years, I'm still head over heels for this car!

The Camaro did not meet my expectations due to the lack of lumbar support and uncomfortable seats. However, it does run well. In comparison to other cars such as Infiniti and Nissan, the Camaro falls short in terms of ride comfort and handling. As a 5'7
