Land rover problems
Land Rover is a British brand of predominantly four-wheel drive, off-road capable vehicles, owned by multinational car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), since 2008 a subsidiary of India's Tata Motors. JLR currently builds Land Rovers in Brazil, China, India, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom. The Land Rover name was created in 1948 by the Rover Company for a utilitarian 4WD off-road vehicle; currently, the Land Rover range consists solely of upmarket and luxury sport utility vehicles.
Land Rover was granted a Royal Warrant by King George VI in 1951, and 50 years later, in 2001, it received a Queen's Award for Enterprise for outstanding contribution to international trade. Over time, Land Rover grew into its own brand (and for a while also a company), encompassing a consistently growing range of four-wheel drive, off-road capable models. Starting with the much more upmarket 1970 Range Rover, and subsequent introductions of the mid-range Discovery and entry-level Freelander line (in 1989 and 1997), as well as the 1990 Land Rover Defender refresh, the marque today includes two models of Discovery, four distinct models of Range Rover, and after a three-year hiatus, a second generation of Defenders have gone into production for the 2020 model year – in short or long wheelbase, as before.
For half a century (from the original 1948 model, through 1997, when the Freelander was introduced), Land Rovers and Range Rovers exclusively relied on their trademark boxed-section vehicle frames. Land Rover used boxed frames in a direct product bloodline until the termination of the original Defender in 2016; and their last body-on-frame model was replaced by a monocoque with the third generation Discovery in 2017. Since then all Land Rovers and Range Rovers have a unified body and frame structure.
Since 2010, Land Rover has also introduced two-wheel drive variants, both of the Freelander, and of the Evoque, after having built exclusively 4WD cars for 62 years. The 2WD Freelander has been succeeded by a 2WD Discovery Sport, available in some markets.

Common Land rover problems
Based on complaints from owners of Land Rover cars, several common problems have been identified:
- Head Gasket Failure:
- Head gasket failure is a common issue, particularly in Discovery models made between 1989 and 2004. When the head gasket fails, it can lead to oil or coolant loss, potentially causing severe engine damage if not promptly addressed.
- Electrical Problems:
- Land Rovers are equipped with various electrical components that can be prone to issues. These electrical faults can range from minor malfunctions to more significant problems, affecting the overall performance and comfort features of the vehicle.
- Brake Pad Wear:
- Due to the weight distribution of Land Rovers, brake pads can experience premature wear, especially in some Discovery models. This can lead to the need for more frequent brake pad replacements compared to other vehicles, impacting both safety and maintenance costs.
- Steering Shaft Problems:
- Land Rovers may encounter steering shaft issues, resulting in loud noises, particularly when turning at low speeds. These problems can affect the driving experience and safety of the vehicle, requiring attention from a Land Rover repair specialist.
- Transmission Problems:
- Transmission issues are common in both modern and older Range Rover models. Signs of transmission problems include warning lights, fluid leaks, erratic shifts, and difficulty accelerating in certain gears. Land Rover has issued recalls in the past due to transmission concerns.
- Rust Issues:
- Older Land Rover models are prone to rust, especially in areas where steel meets aluminum. Rust can be a significant challenge in Land Rover restoration, particularly in regions with salt-covered roads in winter, leading to body panel deterioration and suspension problems.
- Differential Problems:
- Land Rovers are known for their off-road capabilities, but the differential unit can suffer from issues such as oil starvation, resulting in differential whine, gear grinding, or seizing. Regular maintenance and checks are essential to prevent costly repairs or replacements.
- Engine Issues:
- Range Rovers often face engine problems, including overheating in early models, catastrophic failures in diesel units, and various issues in gasoline engines like radiator problems, timing chain issues, and manifold woes. Engine repairs can be expensive and impact the vehicle's performance.
- Stopping Power Concerns:
- Parking brake faults are common in many Range Rovers, leading to screeching, locking up, or failing to release. Issues with the ABS, Traction Control modules, and handbrake components can compromise the vehicle's braking system, posing safety risks to the driver and passengers.
These common problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to issues to ensure the longevity and performance of Land Rover vehicles.

- Summary: Multiple Safety Concerns: 1)The vehicles Emergency Braking System engaged TWICE, SUDDENLY, and in busy traffic/highway situations. Now told BREAK PADS AND ROTORS are worn and rusted badly-unusually soon for a newly purchased car-less than a year old. The Austin Jaguar Land Rover dealership’s service person told me “most clients are replacing at 9,500 miles.” If this is truly the case, then why would my sensor warning system not alert me sooner? 2) The vehicle engine coolant light keeps coming on. Dealer told me to “top it off.” I check weekly and have to refill the coolant tank-now worried vehicle has faulted hoses or radiator and will overheat & catch on fire. There are a high number of owners of this vehicle brand, make, and model that are inquiring online about these safety concerns. Please investigate. Looking forward to a response.

- Summary: I am the owner of a 2018 Velar Land Rover. Without notice my main door switch has went out on the truck. I cannot adjust my mirrors which is a safety issue. I cannot adjust my mirrors for viewing while I am driving. I also cannot let down any windows and the rear doors are locked on child lock. This is a safety risk for me and my children who ride in the back seat of the vehicle. I have been having problems with this vehicle since I purchased it. I was able to take the vehicle to the same shop that had to replace the starter in the Velar, and they stated to me that it was the main power switch on the driver's door that has gone out, this was last month in August. On 9/25/24 I contacted the dealership to let them know the problem and to make a ticket. I was told that I would have to pay $300.00 for a diagnostic fee and after I pay for the fee that they would see if they could assist with some payment for the repairs. I talked with the supervisor to let her know that I should not have to pay for a diagnostic due to this truck always having repairs/ issues and this is a safety issue, and the main switch should have not gone out already without any notice.

- Summary: I've been having various start/stop issues with my car in the middle of traffic with are real safety issues. My first visit at Land Rover dealership was back on July 12, 2024 for a powertrain recall. Full inspection during that time revealed that everything else worked fine with my car expect that a new set of tires were needed. Since then, I had intermittent window and blinder issues not working and various not functional start/stop feature. I had to replace the window driver switch and recently, I started having start up issues and have changed the battery. Going back to the dealer for inspection, I was informed that the reason why my car will randomly stopped in the middle of traffic is I need an update of my software transmission control module. I feel is a fundamental safety issue that was undetected from previous visit. Other issues that were raised by the dealer include an oil leak and the need to replace both the supercharger adn main drive belt because of oil saturation. I would add that this type of car had a known water pump manufacturing issues that I am not sure has been recalled. I also had to bear the costs of replacing the water pump for my car.I would like Jaguar/Land ROVER to cover these costs of repairs and work with me to address the outstanding issues specially the software related issues.
