1992 Chevrolet Camaro problems

chevrolet logo

The Chevrolet Camaro is a mid-size American automobile manufactured by Chevrolet, classified as a pony car. It first went on sale on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year and was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang. The Camaro shared its platform and major components with the Firebird, produced by General Motors' Pontiac division that was also introduced for 1967.

Four distinct generations of the Camaro were developed before production ended in 2002. The nameplate was revived on a concept car that evolved into the fifth-generation Camaro; production started on March 16, 2009.

The Camaro was discontinued at the end of the 2024 model year. Production ended in December 2023. However, Chevrolet has stated, "This is not the end of Camaro's story."

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2006-09-05
  • VIN: 1G1FP23E1NL
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
  • Summary: I HAVE A 1992 CAMARO RS, 5.0 LITER ENGINE, THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL ON THE FILLER TUBE FOR THE GAS TANK , LOOSE SOLDER JOINTS ETC. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL CHEVY DEALER HERE IN TALLAHASSEE, DROPPED IT OFF THE NIGHT BEFORE THEY LOOKED AT IT. I GOT A CALL AT 8:12 THE NEXT MORNING, WHICH WAS ONLY 12 MINUTES AFTER THEY HAD STARTED WORK SAYING THEY COULD NOT GET THE PARTS TO FIX IT, BECAUSE THEIR SERVICE MANAGER SAID THE CAR WAS TO OLD AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. SO I ASKED WHY IT WAS THAT I COULD GO TO THE LOCAL AUTO PARTS AND BUY THEM AND IF THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO FIX IT , I WOULD CALL THE NHTSA AND TALK TO THEM. HE QUICKLY CHANGED HIS TUNE AND SAID " OH NO DON'T DO THAT WE WILL FIND THE PARTS". SO ROUGHLY AT 3:00 PM THAT AFTERNOON I RECEIVED ANOTHER CALL FROM THE DEALER, SAYING" YOUR INSPECTION IS COMPLETE, WE DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS". WHICH REALLY DIDN'T SURPRISE ME THAT HE SAID THAT DUE TO THE FACT THEY NEVER WANTED TO FIX SUCH AN OLD CAR TO BEGIN WITH. I AM NOT A MECHANIC, BUT I AM A TECHNICAL ENGINEER AND I KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES TO EXAMINE SOMETHING TO THE FULL EXTENT, AND .4 HOURS WHICH IS EQUIVALENT TO MAYBE 23 MINUTES, IS NOT SUFFICIENT TIME TO EXAMINE A LEAKY FUEL SYSTEM ON A CAR. THAT IS WHAT MY INVOICE STATED AND IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY WORK, IN OTHER WORDS THEY WROTE OFF 25 MINUTES OF WARRANTY WORK AND DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO REPAIR OR EVEN BOTHER TO LOOK AT MY VEHICLE FOR SAFETY RECALL. WHY DO I STATE THE AFOREMENTIONED? EASY, WHEN THE GAS TANK HAS OVER HALF A TANK IT LEAKS LIKE CRAZY AT THE GOOSE NECK RIGHT FROM THE SOLDER JOINTS, JUST LIKE THE SAFETY RECALL MENTIONS. LEAKS RIGHT ON THE EXHAUST PIPE AND IS GOING TO START A FIRE ONE OF THESE DAYS AND I WOULD HAVE TO SAY IT WILL BE THE CHEVY DEALERS PROBLEM SINCE THEY INSPECTED IT, LESS THAN 1 MONTH AGO AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER. I HAVE HAD THE RUN AROUND WITH OTHER PEOPLE, BUT THIS WAS MORE THAN OBVIOUS WHAT THEY DID. *JB

Negative 1992 Chevrolet Camaro car reviews

Hi there! It sounds like you really enjoy driving your 92 RS 25th ANV during the summer. The feeling of the sun on your face and the wind in your hair is unbeatable! However, I can understand that it might be a bit tricky to drive in bad weather or on rough roads. It's impressive that you've put so many miles on your car, and it's great that you've been able to fix it up after some challenges. I hope you're able to get the electrical problems sorted out soon. By the way, it's interesting to hear that your mother's 2005 Ford Excursion Limited gets similar gas mileage to your car. Thanks for sharing your story!

Positive 1992 Chevrolet Camaro car reviews

  1. Dante Lowe 2025-01-04

You've owned four 3rd generation Camaros, but the one you have now is the best! It's a show car that has won many car shows, and this year you've taken it to two Super Chevy shows where it won runner-up both times. What a great little car!

  2. Joey Wolf 2024-08-28

This has been a very dependable and enjoyable car to own and drive. Maintenance has been simple with few parts needing to be replaced. I really like the dependability of GM Engines. Timing chains are definitely a step above belts, and I understand the 350 cc engines have a long life. The only downside of the 92 Camaro is the gas economy. It's been a joy to own.

  3. Constantin Grimes 2024-08-01

    Great experience! No complaints.

  4. Hilton Larson 2024-07-01

Hey there! I just wanted to share how much I adore my 25th anniversary Camaro. It's such a blast cruising around with the T-tops off and the pedal to the floor. I've been lucky enough to have had no major issues with it since I bought it in '98, although I do tend to be a little hard on the brakes and tires. I do wish I had the funds to give the car the restoration it deserves and bring it back to its prime.

  5. Alexie Paucek 2024-06-28

Only had this car for one year and I absolutely love it! It's my first muscle car and I'm completely hooked. The 305 v-8 has just the right amount of power for the size of the car and it's definitely plenty for me.
