Land rover Range rover problems

The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line was launched in 1970 by British Leyland and is now in its fifth generation.
Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
History
The Rover Company (originator of the Land Rover marque) was experimenting with a larger model than the Land Rover Series in 1951, when the Rover P4-based two-wheel-drive "Road Rover" project was developed by Gordon Bashford. This was shelved in 1958 and the idea lay dormant until 1966, when engineers Spen King and Bashford set to work on a new model.
The first Range Rover prototype was built in 1967 with plate number SYE 157F. The design of the Range Rover was finalised in 1969. Twenty-six Velar-badged engineering development vehicles were built between 1969 and 1970 and were road registered with the number plates YVB151H through to YVB177H.
Though being chassis no. 3, YVB 153H is believed to have been the first off the production line as a vehicle in that colour was urgently required for marketing. (The Range Rover with chassis no. 1 was a green model with the registration "YVB 151H", and is now on exhibition at Huddersfield Land Rover Centre, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire). The Velar name was derived from the Italian "velare" meaning to veil or to cover. Range Rover development engineer Geof Miller used the name as a decoy for registering pre-production Range Rovers. The Velar company was registered in London and produced 40 pre-production vehicles that were built between 1967 and 1970.
The Range Rover was launched in 1970. In the early 1970s, the Musée du Louvre in Paris exhibited a Range Rover as an "exemplary work of industrial design".
In 1971, ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker used the unproven Range Rover to drive from Algeria to Lagos, Nigeria, to set up a recording studio and jam with Fela Kuti. Predating the Paris-Dakar rally the subsequent documentary is replete with such terrain, documenting the vehicle's endurance.
In 1972, the British Trans-Americas Expedition became the first vehicle-based expedition to traverse the Americas from north to south, including traversing the roadless Darién Gap. The specially modified Range Rovers used for this expedition are now on display in the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust collection at Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Range Rover sub-brands have been launched. In 2004, Land Rover debuted the Range Rover Sport, based on the Land Rover Discovery platform. Later models received the latest Range Rover platform. In 2011 came the Range Rover Evoque, and in 2017 the Range Rover Velar (re-using the name of the very first, pre-production Range Rovers).

Common Land rover Range rover problems
Based on complaints from owners of Land Rover Range Rover cars, several common problems have been identified:
- Transmission Problems: Range Rovers are known to experience transmission issues, which can result in warning lights, transmission fluid leaks, erratic shifts, and difficulties accelerating in certain gears. Land Rover has issued recalls in the past due to transmission problems.
- Rust: Despite Land Rover's use of aluminum in their vehicles, rust remains a significant concern, especially in older models. The combination of steel and aluminum in the car's construction can lead to rust issues, particularly in areas where these materials meet. Rust problems are more pronounced in older models and can be exacerbated by exposure to salt on roads during winter.
- Differential Issues: The differential unit in Range Rovers can be problematic, with reports of rear differentials needing replacement prematurely. Oil starvation can lead to differential whine, potentially causing gear damage if left untreated. Contaminated oil in the differential can be indicated by a glittery appearance, necessitating a costly replacement unit.
- Engine Problems: Range Rovers often face engine issues, including overheating in early models and various failures in diesel and gasoline units. These problems can range from radiator failures to timing chain issues, all of which can be expensive to repair.
- Brake Faults: Parking brake faults are common in Range Rovers, with symptoms like screeching, locking up, or failing to release. Issues with the ABS and Traction Control modules have also been reported, posing safety risks to drivers and passengers.
- Electrical Gremlins: Electrical problems have plagued Range Rovers throughout their lifespan, with issues ranging from faulty switches to complete vehicle shutdowns. Some models have experienced major recalls due to electrical malfunctions, emphasizing the importance of addressing these issues promptly.
These common problems with Land Rover Range Rover cars highlight the need for thorough inspections and maintenance to address these issues proactively and ensure a smoother ownership experience.

Land rover Range rover 2009
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-20
- Date Complaint: 2024-06-21
- VIN: SALSK25419A
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: I purchased four Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra tires (255 / 50R 19 107 W XL front and back) from Costco at 2700 Potomac Mill Circle, Woodbridge, VA on [XXX]. These tires were specifically for a 2009 Range Rover Sport HSE. The odometer reading was 105632 at the time of purchase, and the tires were installed on [XXX]. The present mileage as of today is 118233. However, after a mere 12,000 miles, all four tires are cracked along the bead inside the tire, showing the threads/wire. The tires are all torn in the sidewall at the bead above the inside of the rim edge and are non-repairable. There was no damage to the rim, nor any reason the tire might have been lacerated by the rim. The tire failure appeared to have occurred without provocation, and Costco had just conducted maintenance in April 2024. The tires have an 80,000-mile warranty, so I wonder how all four tires have the same issue on the inside of the tire after only 12,000-mileage has been recorded; it has been only two years. If the tires had failed while driving, this could have been catastrophic for me and my family, which could have ended up in the vehicle losing control and possibly loss of life since all four tires are damaged. The only driving is taking my son to school and driving in the local area for food. I had a tire inspection done with Cosco Tire in April 2024, and Firestone identified this issue during a wheel alignment on all four tires in June 2024. I took the vehicle to NTB and had a mechanic look at it, and the only conclusion they stated was that these were defective tires. This could have been an improper service by Costco, which they said was not there back in April 2024. The only warnings I had were the illuminated lamp of the TPMS, the tire pressure monitoring system, and the low-pressure warning for the tire The vehicle was brought to Costco for two inspections regarding the TPMS, and all the TPMS on the tires were working correctly; they could not determine the cause of the lamp. Over the last 20 years, we have owned several premium SUVs, mostly of German origin. In the past 24 months, we had the unusual situation of simultaneously owning two 2017 RR HSEs (a diesel and a V6 gas), a 2017 Escalade ESV (LWB), and a 4-year-old MB diesel SUV. The RRs were purchased to replace the Escalade and the MB. We had grown tired of MB vehicles due to frequent warranty issues, maintenance schedules, and dated styling. The Escalade was bought to pull a large boat and for long trips, but its overall size turned out to be a negative for everyday use. Despite this, it became one of our unexpected favorites. Now, addressing our RR diesel ownership, we absolutely love the car. The power of the high torque diesel engine, 22 mpg in town, its rather compact exterior size, and very luxurious and comfortable interior have won us over. The gas RR is basically the same car, but the gas engine is no match for the diesel. The noise levels are basically the same, but the gas engine has never achieved its EPA ratings of 17/23. For those who have a hesitation of owning a car with a modern diesel engine, they have probably never driven or owned one. Neither RR has had any warranty problems as of yet, and the suggested maintenance schedules are better than most competitors. I've seen some criticism of the build quality not being competitive, but in my opinion, the build quality meets or exceeds all of its competitors. One suggestion: if you are ordering or buying an existing car, make sure it has the 'surround view camera system'.

Hey there! I just sold my Rover after owning it for about 4 years. When everything was running smoothly, it was an absolute blast to drive! However, I must admit that it could be quite expensive and frustrating when things weren't functioning properly. Just a heads up, being a Rover owner can be a bit high maintenance and costly.

I am thrilled with the Land Rover we just purchased! It is a stunning vehicle and rides very smoothly. The team at Land Rover of Cary was incredibly helpful in guiding my decision-making process. The customer service was exceptional, and the salesman was knowledgeable and able to answer all of our questions. A big thank you to him! I highly recommend Land Rover of Cary to anyone in the market for a new vehicle - they truly are the best!

I purchased this car in May when the dealer was anxious to clear inventory for '06s. The car was sold to me at 1% over invoice. My wife drives a BMW 5-series, and the connection between the Range Rover and BMW is unmistakable. The build quality is very tight and the stereo is awesome. I find the acceleration to be plenty for my tastes. However, the rear facing sight lines aren't that great due to the pillar and head rests, which could be an issue for some. I considered a Cayenne S, but decided against it due to the lack of rear leg room. The Range Rover is 7

The electronics (entertainment and climate control) started malfunctioning the day I bought the car. The dealer was quick to respond and picked up the car, gave me a loaner and took it to fix it. It turned out that it needed a software update, which seems like it should have been on the pre-delivery check list. A week later, the lower touch screen went totally blank and the two knobs that control temp stopped working. The dealer picked up the car again and replaced the lower screen. Although the radio source randomly changes and the climate control (lower screen) seems to roll through random levels of working or not, I am happy that I bought this in the spring and consistent heat or A/C haven't been needed yet. The car is going back to the dealer next week to see if the third time is a charm. I will be noting to the dealer that another problem will result in initiating a Lemon Law suit. I must say that the dealer has been fantastic and their responsiveness has exceeded my expectations (which were high given the cost of the car). If it wasn't for this issue, I would give the 2019 RR 5 stars. I love everything else about the car. Unfortunately, I seem to be getting more experience with their loaners (none of which have had a similar issue) than my vehicle.

Pros: Great ride! The gas mileage exceeds 18 mpg on combined highway and city driving. However, there are some cons to consider. The transmission and electrical systems have had some problems from the start. Unfortunately, Land Rover Corporate has not been very helpful in correcting these issues. When it comes to off-road driving, this vehicle performs well, but be aware that the wheels can go out of alignment quite easily. Even in city driving, it's important to check the alignment frequently. Additionally, the factory tires may cup if the alignment is off.

It's a remarkable vehicle, although the previous owners may have overused it. Fortunately, all issues have been resolved by Land Rover's warranty. While it may be a bit cumbersome to drive on busy city streets, it provides a great sense of security and rides smoothly. It's not the most economical vehicle, but it was not designed with that in mind. The engine is powerful and the transmission is smooth, making for a comfortable ride. The amenities are luxurious and sophisticated. It's worth noting that the next set of tires may be expensive, and it does consume a fair amount of fuel.

I really appreciate this car in so many ways, but unfortunately, it has been in the shop five times this year. Just a friendly reminder to be cautious when making a purchase.

I once owned a '98 RR 4.6 that I purchased with 36K miles on it. Unfortunately, the gas mileage was quite poor, averaging around 12 mpg. After about 6 months of ownership, I began to experience some issues with the A/C control, two stereos, the sunroof, and other minor problems. While these issues were not major, they did require frequent repairs, with the truck being taken in for service at least once a week for a two-month period. During this time, I was without a stereo for most of the two months. Additionally, the 36,000 mile service cost me $1000. Due to these issues, I decided to trade in the RR six months before the warranty expired, as I was apprehensive about owning a Land Rover without a warranty. Lastly, it is worth noting that Land Rovers tend to depreciate quite quickly.
