Land rover Range rover problems

The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line was launched in 1970 by British Leyland and is now in its fifth generation.
Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
History
The Rover Company (originator of the Land Rover marque) was experimenting with a larger model than the Land Rover Series in 1951, when the Rover P4-based two-wheel-drive "Road Rover" project was developed by Gordon Bashford. This was shelved in 1958 and the idea lay dormant until 1966, when engineers Spen King and Bashford set to work on a new model.
The first Range Rover prototype was built in 1967 with plate number SYE 157F. The design of the Range Rover was finalised in 1969. Twenty-six Velar-badged engineering development vehicles were built between 1969 and 1970 and were road registered with the number plates YVB151H through to YVB177H.
Though being chassis no. 3, YVB 153H is believed to have been the first off the production line as a vehicle in that colour was urgently required for marketing. (The Range Rover with chassis no. 1 was a green model with the registration "YVB 151H", and is now on exhibition at Huddersfield Land Rover Centre, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire). The Velar name was derived from the Italian "velare" meaning to veil or to cover. Range Rover development engineer Geof Miller used the name as a decoy for registering pre-production Range Rovers. The Velar company was registered in London and produced 40 pre-production vehicles that were built between 1967 and 1970.
The Range Rover was launched in 1970. In the early 1970s, the Musée du Louvre in Paris exhibited a Range Rover as an "exemplary work of industrial design".
In 1971, ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker used the unproven Range Rover to drive from Algeria to Lagos, Nigeria, to set up a recording studio and jam with Fela Kuti. Predating the Paris-Dakar rally the subsequent documentary is replete with such terrain, documenting the vehicle's endurance.
In 1972, the British Trans-Americas Expedition became the first vehicle-based expedition to traverse the Americas from north to south, including traversing the roadless Darién Gap. The specially modified Range Rovers used for this expedition are now on display in the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust collection at Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Range Rover sub-brands have been launched. In 2004, Land Rover debuted the Range Rover Sport, based on the Land Rover Discovery platform. Later models received the latest Range Rover platform. In 2011 came the Range Rover Evoque, and in 2017 the Range Rover Velar (re-using the name of the very first, pre-production Range Rovers).

Common Land rover Range rover problems
Based on complaints from owners of Land Rover Range Rover cars, several common problems have been identified:
- Transmission Problems: Range Rovers are known to experience transmission issues, which can result in warning lights, transmission fluid leaks, erratic shifts, and difficulties accelerating in certain gears. Land Rover has issued recalls in the past due to transmission problems.
- Rust: Despite Land Rover's use of aluminum in their vehicles, rust remains a significant concern, especially in older models. The combination of steel and aluminum in the car's construction can lead to rust issues, particularly in areas where these materials meet. Rust problems are more pronounced in older models and can be exacerbated by exposure to salt on roads during winter.
- Differential Issues: The differential unit in Range Rovers can be problematic, with reports of rear differentials needing replacement prematurely. Oil starvation can lead to differential whine, potentially causing gear damage if left untreated. Contaminated oil in the differential can be indicated by a glittery appearance, necessitating a costly replacement unit.
- Engine Problems: Range Rovers often face engine issues, including overheating in early models and various failures in diesel and gasoline units. These problems can range from radiator failures to timing chain issues, all of which can be expensive to repair.
- Brake Faults: Parking brake faults are common in Range Rovers, with symptoms like screeching, locking up, or failing to release. Issues with the ABS and Traction Control modules have also been reported, posing safety risks to drivers and passengers.
- Electrical Gremlins: Electrical problems have plagued Range Rovers throughout their lifespan, with issues ranging from faulty switches to complete vehicle shutdowns. Some models have experienced major recalls due to electrical malfunctions, emphasizing the importance of addressing these issues promptly.
These common problems with Land Rover Range Rover cars highlight the need for thorough inspections and maintenance to address these issues proactively and ensure a smoother ownership experience.

Land rover Range rover 2009
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-20
- Date Complaint: 2024-06-21
- VIN: SALSK25419A
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: I purchased four Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra tires (255 / 50R 19 107 W XL front and back) from Costco at 2700 Potomac Mill Circle, Woodbridge, VA on [XXX]. These tires were specifically for a 2009 Range Rover Sport HSE. The odometer reading was 105632 at the time of purchase, and the tires were installed on [XXX]. The present mileage as of today is 118233. However, after a mere 12,000 miles, all four tires are cracked along the bead inside the tire, showing the threads/wire. The tires are all torn in the sidewall at the bead above the inside of the rim edge and are non-repairable. There was no damage to the rim, nor any reason the tire might have been lacerated by the rim. The tire failure appeared to have occurred without provocation, and Costco had just conducted maintenance in April 2024. The tires have an 80,000-mile warranty, so I wonder how all four tires have the same issue on the inside of the tire after only 12,000-mileage has been recorded; it has been only two years. If the tires had failed while driving, this could have been catastrophic for me and my family, which could have ended up in the vehicle losing control and possibly loss of life since all four tires are damaged. The only driving is taking my son to school and driving in the local area for food. I had a tire inspection done with Cosco Tire in April 2024, and Firestone identified this issue during a wheel alignment on all four tires in June 2024. I took the vehicle to NTB and had a mechanic look at it, and the only conclusion they stated was that these were defective tires. This could have been an improper service by Costco, which they said was not there back in April 2024. The only warnings I had were the illuminated lamp of the TPMS, the tire pressure monitoring system, and the low-pressure warning for the tire The vehicle was brought to Costco for two inspections regarding the TPMS, and all the TPMS on the tires were working correctly; they could not determine the cause of the lamp. I have owned many cars, but this one is by far the best. I recently bought a used one and I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my new 2010 model in just 2 weeks. The car is absolutely amazing on the highway, it feels like a Gulfstream Jet on wheels! Even after a long drive, I am not the least bit tired thanks to the outstanding seats. The design is timeless and I know 4 others who also own a RR and are planning on purchasing again. I believe the 2010 model will take things to the next level, and I will definitely report back.

I think this is the best looking SUV, period. The car always puts a smile on my face whenever I look at it. I did have a couple of minor issues with the car, such as the front passenger headlight fogging up during rain, but the dealer replaced it under warranty. Additionally, the steering wouldn't always auto-decline to the preset position when starting the car, but the dealer reset the computer and there have been no problems since then.

Bought used, this car has been incredibly reliable. I believe that all the necessary parts have been replaced due to its age. With about 170K miles, it has proven to be more dependable than my newer 'luxury' vehicles. If you enjoy working on your car yourself, this is the perfect vehicle for you as it is very easy to work on. The mileage is also quite good for this type of car.

I loved this thing! It was a real headturner and a wheel turner. I would drive right off the highway into mud, snow, rocks, what have you... I have never been in a truck that handled like a 911! Yes, it had problems, but it was worth it. Unfortunately, I had to sell it on my wife's order to get her a 'real' car. Looking back, I should have gotten a better wife.

You'll love the Range Rover for its style, class, comfort, luxury, utility, and the jealousy factor. Specifically, the leather, info touch screen, Harmon-Kardon stereo, and all options of the luxury interior package (an absolute must) are amazing. You will grow to love the driveability, ride, and handling. If you have the guts to try it, being so expensive, the off-road capability of the Range Rover is impressive. As someone who sells ranches in Texas, I can attest that I can sell properties that others can't in my Rover. Turn the suspension knob and lift the Rover 3 inches, and it will traverse the most challenging terrain with ease, without feeling like it. It's the love child of a Jeep and a Mercedes sedan. However, it's important to note that repair bills can be high. In 4 years or so, both front airbags failed (although I love the feature), rendering it undriveable. A door handle broke, the sunroof jammed, and the nav map stopped working (I just ejected the disc!). I suggest finding an expert Land Rover guy near you (not the dealer!). The dealer wanted $3k for each airbag, $1k for the door, $1k for the sunroof, and $500 for the nav map, that's $8,500! It still cost me $3k with my non-dealer guy. The 255 55 R19 tires are very expensive, and the selection sucks. Also, it has the most expensive battery I've ever seen. Overall, the 2006 Range Rover HSE is an awesome vehicle. Just remember, if you buy one, be prepared to drop $5k for repairs at any time.

This car has had some issues, including breakdowns and multiple repairs, but it has been meticulously maintained and has never been taken off-road. While it runs great when it's working, repairs can be expensive and the dealer's response has been less than satisfactory. However, with an extended warranty, the repairs have been covered and the car has been kept in good condition. Although the resale value has decreased significantly over the years, it is still a great car to own.

Range Rover is a car company that has faced criticism in the past. However, it is important to note that many people have had positive experiences with their vehicles. While it is true that some negative reviews exist, it is important to consider all perspectives before making a judgement. It is important to do thorough research before making a purchase decision.

I purchased a brand new 2018 HSE full size Range Rover, which unfortunately has experienced some computer problems. Despite being in the dealer three times, the issue has not yet been resolved. Although this has been frustrating, I am confident that the dealership will be able to find a solution and get my vehicle back to its optimal performance. I have previously owned a Range Rover and remain a loyal customer.

If you're considering purchasing a '95 Rover, it's important to be aware of a couple of potential issues. Some owners have reported engine leaks and electrical malfunctions/failures, and the keyless entry system may not be as reliable as you'd like. However, many owners have found that the performance of the '95 Rover is on par with other SUVs in its class. Additionally, some early models experienced problems with the air-suspension, but many owners have since converted to the traditional coil with no issues. While the '95 Rover is undeniably a beautiful vehicle both inside and out, it's worth noting that it does require a fair amount of maintenance. Despite these potential issues, many owners, myself included, have grown quite attached to our Rovers.

I have been the owner of this car for two years now and it has been quite a journey. The car is absolutely stunning to look at, with a beautiful interior and it is surprisingly fast and nimble for its size. However, I have had some issues with it. Unfortunately, it has been in the shop 10 times now and I had to replace the suspension at a cost of 4k. Additionally, the sound system and navigation have been acting up, the engine coolant reservoir blew and had to be replaced, the seals are all starting to leak and it is quite noisy at highway speed. Lastly, the front parking sensors no longer work. I must say that the people at the dealership have not been very friendly and even told me that the car is pretty old and reaching the end of its life, which is surprising since it is only 5 years old!
