The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line was launched in 1970 by British Leyland and is now in its fifth generation.
Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
History
The Rover Company (originator of the Land Rover marque) was experimenting with a larger model than the Land Rover Series in 1951, when the Rover P4-based two-wheel-drive "Road Rover" project was developed by Gordon Bashford. This was shelved in 1958 and the idea lay dormant until 1966, when engineers Spen King and Bashford set to work on a new model.
The first Range Rover prototype was built in 1967 with plate number SYE 157F. The design of the Range Rover was finalised in 1969. Twenty-six Velar-badged engineering development vehicles were built between 1969 and 1970 and were road registered with the number plates YVB151H through to YVB177H.
Though being chassis no. 3, YVB 153H is believed to have been the first off the production line as a vehicle in that colour was urgently required for marketing. (The Range Rover with chassis no. 1 was a green model with the registration "YVB 151H", and is now on exhibition at Huddersfield Land Rover Centre, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire). The Velar name was derived from the Italian "velare" meaning to veil or to cover. Range Rover development engineer Geof Miller used the name as a decoy for registering pre-production Range Rovers. The Velar company was registered in London and produced 40 pre-production vehicles that were built between 1967 and 1970.
The Range Rover was launched in 1970. In the early 1970s, the Musée du Louvre in Paris exhibited a Range Rover as an "exemplary work of industrial design".
In 1971, ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker used the unproven Range Rover to drive from Algeria to Lagos, Nigeria, to set up a recording studio and jam with Fela Kuti. Predating the Paris-Dakar rally the subsequent documentary is replete with such terrain, documenting the vehicle's endurance.
In 1972, the British Trans-Americas Expedition became the first vehicle-based expedition to traverse the Americas from north to south, including traversing the roadless Darién Gap. The specially modified Range Rovers used for this expedition are now on display in the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust collection at Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Range Rover sub-brands have been launched. In 2004, Land Rover debuted the Range Rover Sport, based on the Land Rover Discovery platform. Later models received the latest Range Rover platform. In 2011 came the Range Rover Evoque, and in 2017 the Range Rover Velar (re-using the name of the very first, pre-production Range Rovers).

Dealer told me to “top it off.” I check weekly and have to refill the coolant tank-now worried vehicle has faulted hoses or radiator and will overheat & catch on fire. There are a high number of owners of this vehicle brand, make, and model that are inquiring online about these safety concerns. Please investigate. Looking forward to a response.

Additionally, the contact stated that the message "Caution - Coolant is Low" was displayed several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the thermometer and the receptacle were replaced; however, the check engine warning light illuminated while driving 60-65 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fourth and fifth cylinders were misfiring due to the engine overheating. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was unknown.

- Summary: I own the above Land Rover Range Rover. While driving on the highway I heard a loud pop and then found that the interior glass panel of the sunroof was completed shattered into thousands of pieces. The sunroof is composed of two pieces of glass. The exterior glass was not affected. I did nothing to cause this to occur. I found reports online of similar occurrences. The sunroof was inspected by my local Range Rover dealer in Jackson, MS who had no explanation of how this happened or could happen. I was told I would be responsible for the repair. It has yet to be repaired.

- Summary: I purchased four Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra tires (255 / 50R 19 107 W XL front and back) from Costco at 2700 Potomac Mill Circle, Woodbridge, VA on [XXX]. These tires were specifically for a 2009 Range Rover Sport HSE. The odometer reading was 105632 at the time of purchase, and the tires were installed on [XXX]. The present mileage as of today is 118233. However, after a mere 12,000 miles, all four tires are cracked along the bead inside the tire, showing the threads/wire. The tires are all torn in the sidewall at the bead above the inside of the rim edge and are non-repairable. There was no damage to the rim, nor any reason the tire might have been lacerated by the rim. The tire failure appeared to have occurred without provocation, and Costco had just conducted maintenance in April 2024. The tires have an 80,000-mile warranty, so I wonder how all four tires have the same issue on the inside of the tire after only 12,000-mileage has been recorded; it has been only two years. If the tires had failed while driving, this could have been catastrophic for me and my family, which could have ended up in the vehicle losing control and possibly loss of life since all four tires are damaged. The only driving is taking my son to school and driving in the local area for food. I had a tire inspection done with Cosco Tire in April 2024, and Firestone identified this issue during a wheel alignment on all four tires in June 2024. I took the vehicle to NTB and had a mechanic look at it, and the only conclusion they stated was that these were defective tires. This could have been an improper service by Costco, which they said was not there back in April 2024. The only warnings I had were the illuminated lamp of the TPMS, the tire pressure monitoring system, and the low-pressure warning for the tire The vehicle was brought to Costco for two inspections regarding the TPMS, and all the TPMS on the tires were working correctly; they could not determine the cause of the lamp. - Summary: This vehicle is a 2023 Range Rover . I took it in to have the winter tires removed and the summer tires installed. Range Rover did a vehicle inspection and it showed the brake pad wear on the front as being a #7 and the rear as a #2. The scale is 1 to 10 , Ten being NO wear or new pads. I have the write up from Range Rover and pictures they took . I also have the bad brake pads that look like they are flaking away. The repair cost was $2,459.97. The service technician told us this was his 5th 2023 large Range Rover he has done so far this year. They also mentioned that they never do brake pads on a 1 year old vehicle ,let alone 5 vehicles so far this year. As expected i called Range Rover support line with NO answers or resolutions. The majority of my wife's travels in this vehicle have my children with her . Not sure if you can notify Range Rover of this issue, I understand they are a foreign company. - Summary: The contact owns a 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed a fuel odor around the exterior of the vehicle. In addition, the contact noticed the fuel odor on the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a fractured gasoline fuel tank flange assembly and that the gasoline fuel tank flange assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V635000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The contact stated that due to health issues, the vehicle was parked for a while; however, recently the vehicle was taken for a smog test. The vehicle failed the smog test due to fuel odor and the check engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, however the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to another dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with a fractured fuel tank flange assembly and that the fuel tank flange assembly needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the recall repair for NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V635000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) was not completed when performed on 03/2022 by the previous dealer. The vehicle was scheduled to be repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 39,554.

Vehicle year: 1995
This car is truly amazing! It has been a part of our family since my mother bought it new in 1995, just a few months before I was born. Although we've had a few cars since then, this one has always held a special place in our hearts. Despite some minor faults, such as the air suspension giving out and the alternator dying a few times, we still love it. No other car has ever compared to it, except for maybe the all-new 2013 model. My mother recently got a new car, which means I get to call this one my own as my first car at 17. While the coil suspension can be a bit bouncy and it's not the fastest to accelerate, this car has kept me safe since I was a baby and continues to do so today. With only 55k miles, it's still going strong!

I really love this car! As someone who has always owned BMW's, I was hesitant to try something new. However, when I got pregnant, my husband surprised me with this car because of its size and safety features. Although he thought I would eventually give it up, I just can't bring myself to do it. The driving experience is so enjoyable and I love the elevated view of the road. Unlike my husband's Tahoe, this car doesn't have any blind spots and is much more comfortable for long trips. While the repair bills may be higher than a Ford, it's important to remember that this is a luxury vehicle. The only minor downside is that it's not the fastest car out there, but it's not meant to be a sports car either.

I've owned this vehicle for 13 years and have personally upgraded it myself. People often mistake it for a new car because of how well-maintained it is - no oil leaks and always garaged. I've upgraded all the electronics and plan on keeping this rover forever. The undercarriage detail is so pristine that it looks like it just came straight from the factory. I bought this truck in Atlanta, Georgia and drove it all the way to New York City. It felt like a breeze, as if I was just driving around the corner. Although I had a couple of codes and misfiring issues, it only cost me $600 to fix it. After that, I have had no problems with it. The engine is strong, the ride is comfortable, and it has some really nice features. Overall, it is an absolute pleasure to drive and own. I highly recommend it!

I love my supercharged RR! It's silver over ivory with piano black trim, a very sexy combination. The ivory leather requires constant attention but looks great. It's very nice leather, by the way. Off the line acceleration is rather gradual, but once it's rolling, it pulls very strong. I looked at the Benz S550 and prefer the ride, drive, and style of the Range Rover. The only vehicle I can think of that combines ride quality, style, luxury, and class the way the RR does is the Bentley Flying Spur.

Hello! I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2010 Range Rover. Unfortunately, I have had to bring it in to the Hornburg Service center in Los Angeles for warped rotors three times in less than 15,000 miles. The brakes are not worn down, and I am concerned about this recurring issue. I have been advised that my driving habits may be the cause of the rotors warping every 5,000 miles. However, I am surprised by this as my 2008 Range Rover did not have any brake or warped rotor issues in the 22,000 miles I drove it for the year I owned it. I am considering opening a Lemon Law case against Range Rover, as this problem seems to be persistent and cannot be fixed. I am disappointed by these issues, as I have had other problems with the car as well. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

I had a difficult experience with my car that required several repairs. The air suspension failed, so I had it converted to a coil spring with new shocks for $2500 at a Land Rover specialist. I also had to replace the water pump for $600, and the heater core leaked in the dashboard, which cost $1800 due to dash removal. Additionally, I had to deal with overheating due to radiator leaks, which cost $550, and I had to replace the alternator and battery for $1000. I also had to replace the windows regulator for $600, the windows master switch for $180, the tires for $600, the brake pads and rotors for $400, the muffler for $350, and the coolant tank for $120. Unfortunately, I encountered an electric problem with the door actuator, which made it impossible to open the door, and the AC heater control stopped working. The radio also stopped working, and the transfer case chain stretched out. Despite my best efforts, I eventually had to sell the car at a big loss of $3000. It was a tough experience that cost me a lot of hard-earned money, but I learned a lot from it.

This car was great when I first bought it, but unfortunately, after reaching 50-60K miles, it started to experience some issues. I had to take it to the shop multiple times to replace the suspension, which was quite expensive, but I was able to convert it to coil instead. Additionally, I had to replace the radiator twice, the alternator due to a malfunction caused by coolant leakage, and the fuel pump. I also had to replace the brake pads and rotors several times, and finding the right tires was a challenge. Although it used to be a fun car to drive, I now worry about potential issues every time I turn the key.

I loved my 2010 and 2012 Range Rover HSE vehicles for their beautiful design and smooth driving experience. However, I have noticed some missing basic interior amenities and luxuries in the 2020 model. When it comes to drive-ability, the car tends to shift too much, making the ride less smooth and enjoyable. The acceleration and deceleration issues are especially noticeable in regular traffic, where the car can behave badly and jerk. Additionally, the auto engine off feature, which shuts off the engine when the car is stopped and starts it back up when you take your foot off the brake pedal, can be quite rough and unpleasant. Overall, while the 2020 Range Rover has some issues, I still appreciate its sleek design and enjoyable driving experience.I've only had the car for 2 months now and twice it failed to auto start. I had to press the ON/OFF button twice to get it to restart. It's frustrating, but I understand that it may be due to EPA regulations. The handling in the 2020 model is not as tight as the 2012, especially noticeable at low speeds. However, the 2012 handling was luxurious and smooth with very little body roll. The 2020 model feels heavier and higher from the ground, although it apparently weighs less. Unfortunately, there is no longer a sunglasses holder or an open cubby to store them. I understand that the roof may have been re-engineered, but it's still a shame. The glove box won't stay open, which is a bit inconvenient. Additionally, there is no visible accessible storage without having to open compartments, which can be a chore. The center console storage is awkward to open and mostly behind your body, making it difficult to access. The flat shelf under the armrest is useless and just becomes another barrier to accessing the actual deep storage. Overall, the car has some minor inconveniences, but it's still a great ride.The armrest has a sticking surface that appears to be designed for a phone, but it is awkward to access. The armrest is located behind your body, making it difficult to open and close. Additionally, the base of the seats no longer have bolsters on the side, which means there is nothing to keep you laterally in the seat. As a result, your legs may tend to splay outward, and you can slide side to side in the seat. Finally, the touch screen is slow to respond, and you may need to press and hold for a second to ensure that it registers your press. I have contacted Range Rover about these issues, but they have stated that this is how the car is designed and that there is nothing wrong with its behavior. It can be frustrating to only notice these problems during rush hour traffic, which is not possible to test at the dealership.
