Land rover Range rover problems

The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line was launched in 1970 by British Leyland and is now in its fifth generation.
Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
History
The Rover Company (originator of the Land Rover marque) was experimenting with a larger model than the Land Rover Series in 1951, when the Rover P4-based two-wheel-drive "Road Rover" project was developed by Gordon Bashford. This was shelved in 1958 and the idea lay dormant until 1966, when engineers Spen King and Bashford set to work on a new model.
The first Range Rover prototype was built in 1967 with plate number SYE 157F. The design of the Range Rover was finalised in 1969. Twenty-six Velar-badged engineering development vehicles were built between 1969 and 1970 and were road registered with the number plates YVB151H through to YVB177H.
Though being chassis no. 3, YVB 153H is believed to have been the first off the production line as a vehicle in that colour was urgently required for marketing. (The Range Rover with chassis no. 1 was a green model with the registration "YVB 151H", and is now on exhibition at Huddersfield Land Rover Centre, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire). The Velar name was derived from the Italian "velare" meaning to veil or to cover. Range Rover development engineer Geof Miller used the name as a decoy for registering pre-production Range Rovers. The Velar company was registered in London and produced 40 pre-production vehicles that were built between 1967 and 1970.
The Range Rover was launched in 1970. In the early 1970s, the Musée du Louvre in Paris exhibited a Range Rover as an "exemplary work of industrial design".
In 1971, ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker used the unproven Range Rover to drive from Algeria to Lagos, Nigeria, to set up a recording studio and jam with Fela Kuti. Predating the Paris-Dakar rally the subsequent documentary is replete with such terrain, documenting the vehicle's endurance.
In 1972, the British Trans-Americas Expedition became the first vehicle-based expedition to traverse the Americas from north to south, including traversing the roadless Darién Gap. The specially modified Range Rovers used for this expedition are now on display in the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust collection at Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Range Rover sub-brands have been launched. In 2004, Land Rover debuted the Range Rover Sport, based on the Land Rover Discovery platform. Later models received the latest Range Rover platform. In 2011 came the Range Rover Evoque, and in 2017 the Range Rover Velar (re-using the name of the very first, pre-production Range Rovers).

Common Land rover Range rover problems
Based on complaints from owners of Land Rover Range Rover cars, several common problems have been identified:
- Transmission Problems: Range Rovers are known to experience transmission issues, which can result in warning lights, transmission fluid leaks, erratic shifts, and difficulties accelerating in certain gears. Land Rover has issued recalls in the past due to transmission problems.
- Rust: Despite Land Rover's use of aluminum in their vehicles, rust remains a significant concern, especially in older models. The combination of steel and aluminum in the car's construction can lead to rust issues, particularly in areas where these materials meet. Rust problems are more pronounced in older models and can be exacerbated by exposure to salt on roads during winter.
- Differential Issues: The differential unit in Range Rovers can be problematic, with reports of rear differentials needing replacement prematurely. Oil starvation can lead to differential whine, potentially causing gear damage if left untreated. Contaminated oil in the differential can be indicated by a glittery appearance, necessitating a costly replacement unit.
- Engine Problems: Range Rovers often face engine issues, including overheating in early models and various failures in diesel and gasoline units. These problems can range from radiator failures to timing chain issues, all of which can be expensive to repair.
- Brake Faults: Parking brake faults are common in Range Rovers, with symptoms like screeching, locking up, or failing to release. Issues with the ABS and Traction Control modules have also been reported, posing safety risks to drivers and passengers.
- Electrical Gremlins: Electrical problems have plagued Range Rovers throughout their lifespan, with issues ranging from faulty switches to complete vehicle shutdowns. Some models have experienced major recalls due to electrical malfunctions, emphasizing the importance of addressing these issues promptly.
These common problems with Land Rover Range Rover cars highlight the need for thorough inspections and maintenance to address these issues proactively and ensure a smoother ownership experience.

Land rover Range rover 2009
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-20
- Date Complaint: 2024-06-21
- VIN: SALSK25419A
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: I purchased four Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra tires (255 / 50R 19 107 W XL front and back) from Costco at 2700 Potomac Mill Circle, Woodbridge, VA on [XXX]. These tires were specifically for a 2009 Range Rover Sport HSE. The odometer reading was 105632 at the time of purchase, and the tires were installed on [XXX]. The present mileage as of today is 118233. However, after a mere 12,000 miles, all four tires are cracked along the bead inside the tire, showing the threads/wire. The tires are all torn in the sidewall at the bead above the inside of the rim edge and are non-repairable. There was no damage to the rim, nor any reason the tire might have been lacerated by the rim. The tire failure appeared to have occurred without provocation, and Costco had just conducted maintenance in April 2024. The tires have an 80,000-mile warranty, so I wonder how all four tires have the same issue on the inside of the tire after only 12,000-mileage has been recorded; it has been only two years. If the tires had failed while driving, this could have been catastrophic for me and my family, which could have ended up in the vehicle losing control and possibly loss of life since all four tires are damaged. The only driving is taking my son to school and driving in the local area for food. I had a tire inspection done with Cosco Tire in April 2024, and Firestone identified this issue during a wheel alignment on all four tires in June 2024. I took the vehicle to NTB and had a mechanic look at it, and the only conclusion they stated was that these were defective tires. This could have been an improper service by Costco, which they said was not there back in April 2024. The only warnings I had were the illuminated lamp of the TPMS, the tire pressure monitoring system, and the low-pressure warning for the tire The vehicle was brought to Costco for two inspections regarding the TPMS, and all the TPMS on the tires were working correctly; they could not determine the cause of the lamp. There were 10 things I wanted to do before I die and go to heaven. Number 4 on that list was to own a Range Rover. This amazing vehicle reminds me of my first real love...smooth...silky...and something everybody else wishes they had...enough said!

I've always admired the Range Rover from afar and knew that one day I would have to get one. That day finally came and I must say that I love my Range. I've read reviews from other people and, as with any product, you're going to have the good with the bad. However, the Range Rover is definitely 'King of the Hill'. This SUV is in a class all by itself. For example, the next time you take your Range out for a ride, count how many other Ranges you come across. You don't see them all over the place like the so-called comparison SUVs such as the BMW X5, Mercedes M-Class, and Cadillac Escalade. You can pull up to a traffic light and literally count about three BMWs and at least two Escalades, but the Range Rover reigns supreme.

I've owned this car for almost a year now and it's been a great experience. The car looks and drives amazingly, with a solid and smooth ride that doesn't feel like you're driving a 3 ton car. I've received many compliments from other riders about the smooth ride. Offroading is a breeze with this car. However, I have had a few minor issues with the car, considering the price. For instance, my backup camera has reset a few times, causing the image to reverse and the lines that show where you're heading to disappear. Also, when the Nav screen is up, it's difficult to know what station you're listening to, which can be frustrating. The voice activation system is not very efficient and I can't seem to find any POI's. Lastly, the seat heater in the back is labeled blue and red, but it doesn't cool like the front seats, which is a bit disappointing.

I recently purchased a 2010 Range Rover after considering several high-end SUVs on the market. This is actually my second Range Rover, and I must say that the craftsmanship and quality of materials are truly outstanding. It's a truly elegant vehicle. Living and driving in Arizona, where the roads and climate can be quite harsh, I was pleased to find that I have driven over 1,300 miles with no issues. This is definitely one of the most comfortable vehicles I have ever owned, and it stands out from my previous Rover, Benz, Porsche, and BMW SUVs, all of which were great vehicles. The electronics are fantastic, and they remind me a little of the avionics panel in my airplane. The Jaguar engine has great power.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with the HSE. I've actually owned three of them ('04, '06, '08) and I have to say, I've loved every single one of them. I feel really lucky because I've never had any major maintenance issues with any of them. The only downside is the cost of filling up the tank, but I guess that's just part of owning a car like this. These vehicles are amazing in any kind of weather. I live in the midwest and I drive about 30,000 miles per year, so I've definitely seen my fair share of nasty conditions like blizzards, ice, and torrential rain. But I never worry when I'm in my Range Rover. As long as you have good tires, you'll get to your destination safely and effortlessly. As for the interior finish and comfort, it really doesn't get any better than this, except maybe on the newer RR's. I highly recommend this vehicle...you definitely won't regret it!

I've taken my Range Rover back to the dealer 5 times for squeaky brakes, but hopefully they've finally got it right. I've noticed that the rear tailgate sags on every Range Rover I've seen, so it seems like some sort of factory defect. The dealership adjusted the tailgate, so hopefully it stays aligned.

Vehicle year: 2008
The vehicle has been experiencing multiple issues, and despite being in the dealership's care for a month and a half, the problems persist. Unfortunately, the vehicle has failed to start approximately 40% of the time in the last 4 months. Even after the dealership claimed to have fixed the issues, I encountered problems within a day of picking up the vehicle on the last two occasions. Regrettably, Land Rover North America's customer service has been unsatisfactory, with no response to my phone calls and no provision of a rental car during the extended periods when the vehicle is in their possession.

I have owned two Range Rovers, and while I absolutely loved my 2012 Sport, I have been disappointed with the poor electronics in the 2015 full-size model. Unfortunately, Range Rover has provided little to no support for this issue.

I recently purchased the RR P400e HSE PHEV 2.0L in December 2019 and wanted to share my experience. Previously, I drove the RR Sport HSE Td6 2016 which was a great car with good diesel consumption (25 mpg overall), but it had a very noisy engine and some transmission problems. When it was time to change my car, I did my research and decided to buy the HPEV for its quiet and fuel-efficient features. As I mostly drive in the city (80% of the time), I thought an electric car would be more beneficial for my lifestyle. However, after two months of driving, I cannot confirm this. Firstly, it takes more than 24 hours to fully charge the plug-in battery at home (despite the dashboard showing 15 hours). Secondly, the fully charged battery only gives you 12-15 miles compared to the advertised 21 miles. Thirdly, I have already driven almost 1000 miles and my gas usage is 14.2 mpg, compared to my sister's RR P400 HSE 3.0L car which gets 16.5 mpg. Fourthly, the 2.0L engine is very noisy during a ride and in parking position, similar to my previous 3.0L Td6 RR Sport which was a bother to me. In addition, the battery also produces an unpleasant heavy noise during a ride and after switching off the car. Lastly, I was surprised to find that my new $107k RR does not have the Passive Entry seats feature which was standard for the RR Sport 2016 $78k. In summary, the RR P400e 2020 needs improvement and is not a great car for the money. I cannot recommend it and will eagerly wait for the end of my lease. Best regards, George B.

"Purchased my first Range Rover HSE 2015 ( six weeks old 3200 miles) and this Friday it goes into the shop for the 6th time. It could have been 40 times (electrical issues) but Land Rover does not have a fix for the Navigation Screen that completely shuts down (43 times and counting). Causing a total shut down of any feature you were using until it reboots. Worse off they knew about this issue and sold me the car without disclosing this. But I have several other electrical issues with this vehicle ( radio malfunction, phone issue, but scariest when my distronic did not activate), the list is longer but you get the point. Dont get me wrong, nicest driving car Ive ever owned, but for the price tag you could do so much better. Whats going to happen when this car is out of warranty, SCARY THOUGHT. Plus Land Rover Corporate is the worst company to deal with. The won't even acknowledge my issues or concerns. My dream car that I waited 45 years to buy, has turned into a nightmare. If your like me and can afford this vehicle... DON'T, get something that is reliable. Worst vehicle purchase of my life. Hope this helps. Your Friend The Honest Business Guy"
