The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line was launched in 1970 by British Leyland and is now in its fifth generation.
Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
History
The Rover Company (originator of the Land Rover marque) was experimenting with a larger model than the Land Rover Series in 1951, when the Rover P4-based two-wheel-drive "Road Rover" project was developed by Gordon Bashford. This was shelved in 1958 and the idea lay dormant until 1966, when engineers Spen King and Bashford set to work on a new model.
The first Range Rover prototype was built in 1967 with plate number SYE 157F. The design of the Range Rover was finalised in 1969. Twenty-six Velar-badged engineering development vehicles were built between 1969 and 1970 and were road registered with the number plates YVB151H through to YVB177H.
Though being chassis no. 3, YVB 153H is believed to have been the first off the production line as a vehicle in that colour was urgently required for marketing. (The Range Rover with chassis no. 1 was a green model with the registration "YVB 151H", and is now on exhibition at Huddersfield Land Rover Centre, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire). The Velar name was derived from the Italian "velare" meaning to veil or to cover. Range Rover development engineer Geof Miller used the name as a decoy for registering pre-production Range Rovers. The Velar company was registered in London and produced 40 pre-production vehicles that were built between 1967 and 1970.
The Range Rover was launched in 1970. In the early 1970s, the Musée du Louvre in Paris exhibited a Range Rover as an "exemplary work of industrial design".
In 1971, ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker used the unproven Range Rover to drive from Algeria to Lagos, Nigeria, to set up a recording studio and jam with Fela Kuti. Predating the Paris-Dakar rally the subsequent documentary is replete with such terrain, documenting the vehicle's endurance.
In 1972, the British Trans-Americas Expedition became the first vehicle-based expedition to traverse the Americas from north to south, including traversing the roadless Darién Gap. The specially modified Range Rovers used for this expedition are now on display in the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust collection at Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Range Rover sub-brands have been launched. In 2004, Land Rover debuted the Range Rover Sport, based on the Land Rover Discovery platform. Later models received the latest Range Rover platform. In 2011 came the Range Rover Evoque, and in 2017 the Range Rover Velar (re-using the name of the very first, pre-production Range Rovers).

- Lack of Power: Power can disappear overnight in Range Rovers, likely due to blocked EGR or DPF valves or split hoses. Problems with timing belts, catalytic converters, fuel pumps, and sensors can also rob power.
- Suspension Issues: The suspension bushes in Range Rovers are weak, with some parts needing replacement before expected. Low tire pressure, a damaged steering rack, low-power steering fluid, and a damaged power steering belt can also cause steering problems.

The Austin Jaguar Land Rover dealership’s service person told me “most clients are replacing at 9,500 miles.” If this is truly the case, then why would my sensor warning system not alert me sooner? 2) The vehicle engine coolant light keeps coming on. Dealer told me to “top it off.” I check weekly and have to refill the coolant tank-now worried vehicle has faulted hoses or radiator and will overheat & catch on fire. There are a high number of owners of this vehicle brand, make, and model that are inquiring online about these safety concerns. Please investigate. Looking forward to a response.

Range Rover did a vehicle inspection and it showed the brake pad wear on the front as being a #7 and the rear as a #2. The scale is 1 to 10 , Ten being NO wear or new pads. I have the write up from Range Rover and pictures they took . I also have the bad brake pads that look like they are flaking away. The repair cost was $2,459.97. The service technician told us this was his 5th 2023 large Range Rover he has done so far this year. They also mentioned that they never do brake pads on a 1 year old vehicle ,let alone 5 vehicles so far this year. As expected i called Range Rover support line with NO answers or resolutions. The majority of my wife's travels in this vehicle have my children with her . Not sure if you can notify Range Rover of this issue, I understand they are a foreign company. - Summary: Left rear tail lamp not illuminating. Investigation: Verified connection to find wire cut and corroded, wire was touching a plastic bracket on the vehicle because the trim that covers the harness had a foam on it and that was pushing the tail lamp harness onto the bracket causing it to rub. Then with time water made it's way in and corroded/cut the wire.

- Summary: We purchased the vehicle new January 2023 and we drove for a couple of months without any issue, suddenly after filling the gas tank on Monday 4/10/2023 we noticed that the gas gauge dropped significantly after about an hour of drive time, later that evening the garage began smelling like gas through out the night without any leaks. The next day taking kids to school the smell was very bad in the car that we were all light headed during the 30 minutes drive time and had to pull over to inspect the vehicle for fuel leaks and could not observe any leaks. We rolled the windows down in cold weather and proceeded with the drive. We took it to Landrover Denver in Littleton Colorado on 04/13/23, since then they have been struggling as well to find why it is smelling as bad as it is and they contacted Landrover USA without any luck, I contacted Landrover USA multiple times and they claim they aren’t aware of any of such issues with their vehicles and couldn’t be of help. I emphasized the safety concerns especially with all of our health, they insisted that they are not aware of any of such issues with the vehicles.

The second-row seat armrest storage compartment latch may fail, allowing the objects from within to be unsecured in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 201, "Occupant Protection in Interior Impact."
- Consequence: In the event of a crash, unsecured objects from within the armrest compartment may strike the vehicle occupants, increasing their risk of injury.

Hello everyone! I recently purchased a 2023 P530 Range Rover LWB and wanted to share my thoughts on the packages they offer. Firstly, I was disappointed to find that the Executive class seating was removed from the LWB Range Rover Autobiography. I'm not sure why they made this change. Additionally, I found the phone app to be quite basic compared to other vehicle brands like BMW. Secondly, I paid $3500 for the Rear Seat Entertainment package and had high expectations for the money I spent. Unfortunately, the package only included 2 screens and 2 Bluetooth headphones with no navigation or other features. I was surprised that Range Rover didn't even upgrade the sound to 3D Meridian considering the high cost of the package. I would advise others to stay away from this upgrade. Range Rover should address the concerns of clients who have experienced similar issues. Overall, I am disappointed with the package and feel that it was not worth the $3500.
