The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line was launched in 1970 by British Leyland and is now in its fifth generation.
Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
History
The Rover Company (originator of the Land Rover marque) was experimenting with a larger model than the Land Rover Series in 1951, when the Rover P4-based two-wheel-drive "Road Rover" project was developed by Gordon Bashford. This was shelved in 1958 and the idea lay dormant until 1966, when engineers Spen King and Bashford set to work on a new model.
The first Range Rover prototype was built in 1967 with plate number SYE 157F. The design of the Range Rover was finalised in 1969. Twenty-six Velar-badged engineering development vehicles were built between 1969 and 1970 and were road registered with the number plates YVB151H through to YVB177H.
Though being chassis no. 3, YVB 153H is believed to have been the first off the production line as a vehicle in that colour was urgently required for marketing. (The Range Rover with chassis no. 1 was a green model with the registration "YVB 151H", and is now on exhibition at Huddersfield Land Rover Centre, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire). The Velar name was derived from the Italian "velare" meaning to veil or to cover. Range Rover development engineer Geof Miller used the name as a decoy for registering pre-production Range Rovers. The Velar company was registered in London and produced 40 pre-production vehicles that were built between 1967 and 1970.
The Range Rover was launched in 1970. In the early 1970s, the Musée du Louvre in Paris exhibited a Range Rover as an "exemplary work of industrial design".
In 1971, ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker used the unproven Range Rover to drive from Algeria to Lagos, Nigeria, to set up a recording studio and jam with Fela Kuti. Predating the Paris-Dakar rally the subsequent documentary is replete with such terrain, documenting the vehicle's endurance.
In 1972, the British Trans-Americas Expedition became the first vehicle-based expedition to traverse the Americas from north to south, including traversing the roadless Darién Gap. The specially modified Range Rovers used for this expedition are now on display in the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust collection at Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Range Rover sub-brands have been launched. In 2004, Land Rover debuted the Range Rover Sport, based on the Land Rover Discovery platform. Later models received the latest Range Rover platform. In 2011 came the Range Rover Evoque, and in 2017 the Range Rover Velar (re-using the name of the very first, pre-production Range Rovers).

- Summary: The contact owns a 2008 Land Rover Range Rover. The contact stated that while entering the front passenger side of the vehicle and using the passenger side hand grip, the hand grip fractured. Due to the failure, the contact fell backwards out of the vehicle and landed on her head and back. With the assistance of another pedestrian and her husband, the contact was taken to the hospital where a cat scan revealed internal bleeding around her head; the contact was able to be released the same day. Since the accident, the contact has had soreness and pain to both hands, back, neck and hip. The contact called the dealer where she was informed that the hand grips were not used for assistance into the vehicle but only for going over bumps in the road. The contact stated that she then read the owners manual and none of that information was listed. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.

IN ADDITION, WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE STABILITY CONTROL SENSOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,266.

I really love this thing. It feels very responsive and the comfort is second to none. We have put 25,000 miles on this thing since September and have had no problems so far. My previous vehicles were an 08 Cayenne and an 04 Jeep Wrangler. The Rover doesn't handle as well on the road (it's not a Porsche), but I feel more at ease knowing I am in one of the best off-road vehicles in the market, and it is a lot more comfortable than the Jeep.

I recently purchased a Rover and I'm thrilled with my decision. The buying experience was fantastic and the car itself is rock-solid, giving me the feeling of driving a vault. It's very BMW-esque and feels heavy, making my larger GMC Yukon seem flimsy in comparison. At first, I thought it was underpowered, but after about 500 miles, it loosened up and the mileage got better too. The suspension is sporty but not too rough, and the build quality appears to be excellent. Although some controls are bizarre and unintuitive, such as the radio tuning, I found that things that at first seemed not to work correctly were actually just a lack of knowledge on my part. It's a complicated machine that takes some time and effort to understand, but the owner's manual is worth studying closely! Overall, I highly recommend the Rover and the entire buying experience to anyone in the market for a new car.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Range Rover HSE. I've only had it for a few months, but it has been performing beautifully. It's like driving a status symbol! The ride is unbelievably smooth, and I love the ability to lower the car a few inches when in a parking garage or when I want an easier 'fall' out of the car. Off-road, there is nothing else I would rather be in. While I have had some minor glitches with the satellite radio and the built-in DVD entertainment system in the rear headrests, they corrected themselves. Overall, I think it's an excellent truck. Fit and finish is great. Once you sit inside you are impressed. This car has it all plus character! Power is great! The sound system is second to none...simply the best. Steering is superb. Comfort for all passengers. AC in the seats. This car will wow you!

I purchased this car for $96,000 in January 2008, but unfortunately, it has had several issues since day one. During the first week, we discovered a cracked exhaust system that needed to be replaced. Additionally, the driver's ventilated heated/cooled seat was not working, and despite many attempts, it had to be completely replaced. The rear brake light filled with water after it rained, so it had to be replaced. The adaptive headlights that are supposed to turn as you go around a corner ended up being 'cross-eyed,' so they replaced the entire passenger side headlight assembly. Unfortunately, the memory functions for the seats, radio, and steering wheel have never worked properly. These issues required multiple trips to the dealership, which was frustrating. However, I ultimately decided to switch to a Lexus, which has been a headache-free experience. It's important to note that as a newcomer, this car may struggle to compete with established brands like BMW or Lexus.

I recently purchased a Land Rover after trading in my 02 Chevy Tahoe. Unfortunately, I encountered some issues with the car. On the morning after purchasing it, I had trouble starting it up. Over time, I experienced a number of engine and electrical problems, and eventually the transmission broke down. As a result, I decided to file a lemon law suit in January 08. However, I have since purchased an 08 Chevy Tahoe ltz and have been very pleased with it. It has been problem-free and is superior to the Land Rover in every way.

Traded in my BMW X5 (8 Cyl) ...and totally regret it. I paid $85,000.00 for my Range Rover, I had extras installed in addition to fully loaded. Unfortunately, I have had my vehicle for 2 months and I am already having problems with it. I would not recommend this vehicle if you are looking for reliability. I am very disappointed.
