2005 Land rover Range rover problems
The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line was launched in 1970 by British Leyland and is now in its fifth generation.
Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
History
The Rover Company (originator of the Land Rover marque) was experimenting with a larger model than the Land Rover Series in 1951, when the Rover P4-based two-wheel-drive "Road Rover" project was developed by Gordon Bashford. This was shelved in 1958 and the idea lay dormant until 1966, when engineers Spen King and Bashford set to work on a new model.
The first Range Rover prototype was built in 1967 with plate number SYE 157F. The design of the Range Rover was finalised in 1969. Twenty-six Velar-badged engineering development vehicles were built between 1969 and 1970 and were road registered with the number plates YVB151H through to YVB177H.
Though being chassis no. 3, YVB 153H is believed to have been the first off the production line as a vehicle in that colour was urgently required for marketing. (The Range Rover with chassis no. 1 was a green model with the registration "YVB 151H", and is now on exhibition at Huddersfield Land Rover Centre, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire). The Velar name was derived from the Italian "velare" meaning to veil or to cover. Range Rover development engineer Geof Miller used the name as a decoy for registering pre-production Range Rovers. The Velar company was registered in London and produced 40 pre-production vehicles that were built between 1967 and 1970.
The Range Rover was launched in 1970. In the early 1970s, the Musée du Louvre in Paris exhibited a Range Rover as an "exemplary work of industrial design".
In 1971, ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker used the unproven Range Rover to drive from Algeria to Lagos, Nigeria, to set up a recording studio and jam with Fela Kuti. Predating the Paris-Dakar rally the subsequent documentary is replete with such terrain, documenting the vehicle's endurance.
In 1972, the British Trans-Americas Expedition became the first vehicle-based expedition to traverse the Americas from north to south, including traversing the roadless Darién Gap. The specially modified Range Rovers used for this expedition are now on display in the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust collection at Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Range Rover sub-brands have been launched. In 2004, Land Rover debuted the Range Rover Sport, based on the Land Rover Discovery platform. Later models received the latest Range Rover platform. In 2011 came the Range Rover Evoque, and in 2017 the Range Rover Velar (re-using the name of the very first, pre-production Range Rovers).

Common 2005 Land rover Range rover problems
The Land Rover Range Rover 2005 is known for several common problems based on complaints from its owners. One of the most frequently reported issues is front differential failure, which is often caused by the wearing of the propshaft coupling. This issue leaves the car without drive to the front wheels, effectively rendering it immobile. While many cars may have had this issue fixed under warranty, it's essential to check the service history to ensure that it has been addressed.
Another common problem with the Range Rover is the failure of its standard air suspension. The compressor is the most common culprit, and it's crucial to check that the car responds appropriately when switching between the three settings and that it maintains the chosen height when parked. This will help identify any leaks in the system.
Electronic and software glitches are also prevalent in the Range Rover, often manifesting as false warning lights or various bings and bongs. Switching the engine off and on again can sometimes resolve these issues, but if they persist, it's possible that the fault is more serious.
The rear hub bushes can wear, leading to a clonking noise over bumps, particularly in cars with 20-inch wheels or larger. Additionally, the rear lights of some earlier models were known to fill with rainwater, although this issue was typically resolved under warranty.
The automatic gearboxes in the Range Rover are generally robust, but there have been a few reports of premature failures. However, the air conditioning usually doesn't need re-gassing until after 100,000 miles.
Driver's seat lower bolster wear is another common issue, with the leather and cushioning potentially splitting over time
. Ball joints and bushings also suffer advanced wear due to the car's heavy weight, so it's essential to budget for replacement if the car doesn't have a recent history of these components being changed.
The 4.4-liter V8 petrol engine in early Range Rovers can suffer from cylinder scoring due to the aluminum construction and alusil and nikasil cylinder liners
. Poor engine timing due to faulty guides is less common but still worth considering. The 2.9-liter diesel six-cylinder engine, on the other hand, is considered very reliable, with some owners reporting well-maintained vehicles reaching 200,000 miles without significant issues
In summary, the Land Rover Range Rover 2005 has several common problems, including front differential failure, air suspension issues, electronic and software glitches, brake pad wear, and engine-related concerns. Prospective buyers should be aware of these issues and carefully inspect any potential purchase, ideally with a full service history, to ensure that they are making a sound investment.

- Summary: I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 RANGE ROVER. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN 2006 WITH 60,000 MILE'S ON IT. IN JUNE 2007, THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL BROKE WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF TWO BUSY INTERSECTIONS. TRAFFIC WAS HALTED UNTIL SOME MEN PUSHED MY CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE WAS NO WARNING LEADING UP TO THIS BREAKDOWN. IN FACT, THE CAR WAS JUST AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 75,000 MILE CHECKUP. NOT TO MENTION RANGE ROVER CHARGED ME $3,000.00 FOR THIS REPAIR.. THE MOST RECENT FRONT DIFFERENTIAL BREAKDOWN WAS MORE SERIOUS SINCE IT OCCURRED ON THE EXPRESSWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. WHILE TRAVELING TO BIRMINGHAM AL. FROM ATLANTA GA. AT A SPEED OF 70 MILES PER/HR THE CAR MADE A SUDDEN GRINDING NOISE AND STOP ACCELERATING. ONCE I REALIZED WGAT WAS GOING ON I STARTED GETTING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT WAS SCARY BECAUSE PART OF THE TRUCK WAS STILL IN THE FREEWAY LANE AND TRUCKS AND CARS WERE AVOIDING HITTING US. MY TEENAGE SON HAD TO PUSH THE CAR OFF THE FREEWAY. AFTER THIS BEING THE SECOND TIME IN PERIL I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE THAT I OWE A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF MONEY ON. THIS LAST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON MARCH 07, 2008. THE PART WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY SINCE IT HAD ONLY BEEN 9 MONTHS AND LESS THAN 8,000 MILES SINCE THE LAST FRONT DIFFERENTIAL WAS REPLACED. OH BY THE WAY , THE CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP IN BIRMINGHAM AL. THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS AND THE PARTS HAVEN'T ARRIVED YET. I HOPE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE TO HELP ME, AND OTHERS IN MY POSITION. *TR

THE CAR FROZE UP AND WOULD NOT PROCEED FORWARD AND I AM ASSUMING BECAUSE I WAS ACCELERATING AND BROUGHT TO AN ABRUPT STOP, THE CAR THEN STARTED TO SHAKE. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND WENT BACK INTO DRIVE, ONLY FOR THE CAR TO IMMEDIATELY MAKE THAT LOUD HORRIBLE GRINDING SOUND AGAIN. THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE IN THE DRIVE POSITION, OR REVERSE. I HAD TO PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL AND PUSH IT HOME. I JUST WOULD LIKE TO NOTE THAT THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND PASSENGER COULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN JEOPARDY BECAUSE I DID JUST EXIT THE FREEWAY BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO STATE THAT THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE RECALLED, AS I HAVE ALREADY FOUND MANY WEBSITES COMPLAINING OF THIS ISSUE. I COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED AND HOPE THAT SOMEONE INVESTIGATES THIS MATTER. *TR

This SUV has been a reliable, safe, and stylish vehicle with mostly highway miles and a single owner. Since first purchasing in 2004, it has only required three repairs: a cup holder, a sunglasses holder, and an O2 sensor. Routine maintenance includes changing the 0w40 Mobile 1 oil every 5,000 miles, replacing tires, the serpentine belt, and flushing the transmission and coolant. Brakes are also checked regularly. It's important to note that it's best not to take it to a Range Rover dealer, as parts are regularly available at most auto mechanics for half the hourly rate since Ford purchased the company in 2003. I absolutely love this truck and couldn't imagine ever going back to a Tahoe. It has great curb appeal, is safe, and provides the utmost comfort.
-
This car is really impressive and definitely worth considering. If I were you, I would recommend the diesel version for its excellent off-road and on-road performance. Additionally, the Range Rover is superior to the HSE or SE Discovery off-road due to its short wheelbase and length. Overall, Land Rover has done an excellent job with this vehicle and I highly recommend it.
-
Overall, I must say that it is a fantastic vehicle. The ride for an SUV is excellent, and the interior is well laid out with superior craftsmanship. In fact, it's better than anything else I test drove. The reliability for its size and amount of technology is good, and it's great on snow, off-road, and highway. The acceleration is good for moving 6700lbs. I must also mention that the dealership provided excellent service and they stand behind the vehicle.
-
I have owned five different Land Rovers since 1992. In my experience, this 2004 Range Rover is absolutely the best performing model. The power and performance are excellent, and the off-road capability is outstanding. Driving in the ice and snow is actually fun! If you own a gas station, all the better.
-
Please remember to keep the gas premium.

I purchased a brand new 2005 Range Rover in December 2004. Unfortunately, the differential broke at 45k miles and then again out of warranty at 65k miles. Additionally, the suspension was shot at 70k miles. While the differential cost me 3k to repair, I decided not to fix the suspension and instead opted to add springs and not use the vehicle suspension. Despite the poor service out of warranty, I am confident in my decision to take control of the situation and find a solution that works for me.

This car seems to have a lot of on-board computers - 27 to be exact (as I've been told). Unfortunately, I've had a few issues with them and it took the dealership three weeks to figure out what was wrong. I still have a list of eight things that need fixing on my next visit to the dealership, but I'm confident they'll be able to sort it out.

I've had my LX470 for a year now and it has exceeded my expectations in terms of comfort and reliability. Although I did have to take it to the dealer to fix two warning lights, overall it's been a great car for daily use.
