2012 Land rover Range rover problems
The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line was launched in 1970 by British Leyland and is now in its fifth generation.
Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
History
The Rover Company (originator of the Land Rover marque) was experimenting with a larger model than the Land Rover Series in 1951, when the Rover P4-based two-wheel-drive "Road Rover" project was developed by Gordon Bashford. This was shelved in 1958 and the idea lay dormant until 1966, when engineers Spen King and Bashford set to work on a new model.
The first Range Rover prototype was built in 1967 with plate number SYE 157F. The design of the Range Rover was finalised in 1969. Twenty-six Velar-badged engineering development vehicles were built between 1969 and 1970 and were road registered with the number plates YVB151H through to YVB177H.
Though being chassis no. 3, YVB 153H is believed to have been the first off the production line as a vehicle in that colour was urgently required for marketing. (The Range Rover with chassis no. 1 was a green model with the registration "YVB 151H", and is now on exhibition at Huddersfield Land Rover Centre, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire). The Velar name was derived from the Italian "velare" meaning to veil or to cover. Range Rover development engineer Geof Miller used the name as a decoy for registering pre-production Range Rovers. The Velar company was registered in London and produced 40 pre-production vehicles that were built between 1967 and 1970.
The Range Rover was launched in 1970. In the early 1970s, the Musée du Louvre in Paris exhibited a Range Rover as an "exemplary work of industrial design".
In 1971, ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker used the unproven Range Rover to drive from Algeria to Lagos, Nigeria, to set up a recording studio and jam with Fela Kuti. Predating the Paris-Dakar rally the subsequent documentary is replete with such terrain, documenting the vehicle's endurance.
In 1972, the British Trans-Americas Expedition became the first vehicle-based expedition to traverse the Americas from north to south, including traversing the roadless Darién Gap. The specially modified Range Rovers used for this expedition are now on display in the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust collection at Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Range Rover sub-brands have been launched. In 2004, Land Rover debuted the Range Rover Sport, based on the Land Rover Discovery platform. Later models received the latest Range Rover platform. In 2011 came the Range Rover Evoque, and in 2017 the Range Rover Velar (re-using the name of the very first, pre-production Range Rovers).

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-08-22
- VIN: SALSP2E41CA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: MY CAR AT APPROX 58000 MILES HAD A KNOCKING SOUND IN THE ENGINE. LAND ROVER CENTERVILLE DIAGNOSED IT AS NEEDING A NEW TENSIONER, TIMING CHAIN AND SUPERCHARGER ISOLATOR. THE REPAIR WAS $6200. 2 YEARS LATER AT 84000 MILES THE VEHICLE IDLED ROUGHLY AND THREW A CODE"PERFORMANCE RESTRICTED" ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I DROVE IT SLOWLY TO THE NEAREST AUTO REPAIR SHOP (5 BLOCKS) WHERE IT DUPLICATED THE ROUGH IDLING AND CODE AND THEN THE ENGINE PROCEEDED TO BLOW UP DUE TO A FAULTY TENSIONER THAT CAUSED THE TIMING CHAIN TO SLACKEN AND DESTROY PISTONS AND VALVES. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED A CATASTROPHE HAD IT OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY. I ORIGINALLY REPLACED THE FAULTY TENSIONERS UNDER THE GUISE THIS WOULD PREVENT AN OCCURRENCE SUCH AS THIS. LAND ROVER STATES THE TIMING CHAIN SHOULD LAST THE LIFE TIME OF THE VEHICLE AND I AM NOW ON MY THIRD ONE WITH A 2012 VEHICLE THAT HAS ONLY 84000 MILES. THE WORSE PART IS THAT THIS FAULTY DESIGN CAUSED MY ENGINE TO SEIZE. I AM NOW OUT 2 VERY COSTLY REPAIR BILLS AND I HAVE NO GUARANTEE THE NEW TENSIONER AND TIMING CHAIN WILL FUNCTION PROPERLY. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM AND APPARENTLY THIS IS A SITUATION LANDROVER IS WELL AWARE OF, YET THERE IS NO RECALL. THERE NEEDS TO BE.THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE, REBUILD IT OR PART THE CAR OUT AS IT IS USELESS ONCE THIS OCCURS.

VEHICLE WAS LEFT COASTING IN TRAFFIC, AND THE ENGINE WOULD REV WITHOUT ANY INFLUENCE ON MOVING THE SUV. THE MECHANIC IDENTIFIED IT AS A KNOWN PROBLEM WHERE THE OUTPUT SHAFT OF THE TRANSMISSION STRIPS THE INPUT SHAFT OF THE TRANSFER CASE DUE TO EXCESSIVE FRETTING CORROSION CAUSED BY INSUFFICIENT LUBRICANT/PROTECTANT APPLIED TO THE SHAFTS AT ASSEMBLY. I ALSO READ ABOUT OTHERS EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC (RANGE ROVER FORUM POSTS). THIS INITIALLY LEFT ME IN THE MIDDLE OF MOVING TRAFFIC WITH NO WAY TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AS IT HAS LEFT OTHERS THAT HAVE DESCRIBED THE SAME SUDDEN FAILURE ON THE INTERNET. THE ONLY REMEDY OFFERED AT THE DEALERSHIP IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND ENTIRE TRANSFER CASE AT A COST IN EXCESS OF $13,000.00.

I previously owned a 2003 Range Rover that unfortunately proved to be unreliable over the years. Despite searching for alternatives, I couldn't find anything that matched the unique styling of the Range Rover, especially the interior. So, I decided to take a chance on a new Range Rover. I am happy to report that the new vehicle is significantly improved over the 2003 model, with a better stereo that now includes iPod integration, Bluetooth, and much-needed horsepower (the 2003 model was slow to accelerate on the highway). Additionally, it features a backup camera and more. My Range Rover is white with an ivory and black interior, and I absolutely love it. So far, I have not experienced any problems.
-
I really enjoy the look, sound, and feel of this machine. It has quickly become my favorite vehicle, providing an exhilarating experience that is hard to match. Even my toes tingle when I hit the throttle! It has exceeded all of my expectations, surpassing even my previous vehicles, including a Mercedes SL500 and a Cadillac Escalade EXT. While I am not currently concerned with reliability, I do acknowledge that this ride comes at a high cost. Recently, it was in the shop for a computer update, and I had to drive a loaner HSE, which was not nearly as enjoyable. However, when I saw my Rover heading my way, I couldn't help but feel excited. Hello, darling!
-
Hi there! I've been driving the Car for almost a month now and have already put more than 897 miles on it. So far, I haven't had any problems with it. As expected with Land Rovers, the fuel economy isn't great, but that's not a big surprise. On the plus side, the Bluetooth wireless phone is easy to connect to. However, some people have mentioned that they find it difficult to hear me when I call them.
-
I really like this vehicle. Although the engine can be difficult to control, especially for a teen driver, I still think it's a great choice for everyday use. There are some reliability issues, such as problems with the gearbox, but I enjoy driving it around town. The fuel economy isn't great, but the Supercharged engine is definitely worth it. I would recommend buying it used. My parents got it for me when it only had 2,000 miles on it. I considered other options like the GL450 (but the front grille of the 550 bothered me), the X6 M, or the E63 AMG Wagon. However, I ultimately chose the Range Rover because it has the most prestige, luxury, and advanced technology.

We've had the pleasure of owning several Range Rovers since 2005. Although we've let some go, we've held onto our 2010 Range Rover, which has become a beloved member of our family. It's incredibly reliable, handles the toughest Northeast snow conditions with ease, and can easily go another 200,000 miles. We recently parted ways with our 2015 model for a Mercedes G550, but the 2010 remains our go-to vehicle. We believe that the newer models, including the 2022 Range Rover, are too precious to replace our trusty 2010. In fact, we think the 2010 was the best of the modern versions (2010-12) before the refreshed body. As a side note, we recently purchased a rebuilt 1990 Defender, which has deepened our love for Land Rover vehicles. We're even planning a trip to South Africa soon, inspired by the brand's heritage. There's truly nothing like a Range Rover or Classic Defender. We only wish that Land Rover had followed Mercedes' lead in refreshing their iconic G Wagon and kept the body style and performance of the original Defender. As you can tell, we absolutely love these vehicles!

I strongly advise against purchasing a Land Rover. My personal experience with a 2010 model has been nothing but problematic. Despite having only 19,000 miles, the rotors have already warped and the technician informed me that I will need new brakes in just 5,000 miles. In contrast, my GMC Denali with 105,000 miles has not required any brake replacements. Furthermore, the Land Rover's satellite radio and electronic system are subpar considering the high cost of the vehicle. In my opinion, it would be wiser to save your money or invest in a BMW, Porsche, or Mercedes. To sum up, the Land Rover is not a worthwhile investment.

Hi there! I recently purchased my first RR and while I was expecting a bit more luxury for the price, I must admit that the power is quite impressive. However, I did notice that the gear change can be a bit delayed when you need the power. Ultimately, I decided to give the car to my wife and keep my 2006 Cadillac STS 4W 8V. I was also a bit disappointed with the sound system, as I've heard better in cars that cost around $20,000. It's important to make sure your service dealer has a good understanding of client satisfaction, as I've found that many RR dealers are too busy to provide adequate care. Thanks for listening!

This car is great for city driving, but unfortunately it falls short in terms of reliability and handling rough terrain. However, if you're looking for a reliable and sturdy option, the G Class might be a better fit for you.

I have experienced several issues with the electrical and BlueTooth systems in my Rover, which have required multiple visits to the dealer. The speakers have been rattling and the BlueTooth has had a lot of static and dropped calls, leading me to unlink my phone. Additionally, the phone system has caused issues where my callers could not hear me, and I had to speak through my cell. The camera has also had occasional issues, but these have been resolved through scheduled service. Finally, the driver settings clear out every time I exit the car. Despite these issues, the car is still a beautiful and enjoyable ride.

Hey there! If you're considering buying a Land Rover, you might want to think twice before spending $80-95K. Unfortunately, we've been experiencing some chronic issues with ours. We've discovered that Land Rover has had numerous design flaws that have gone unaddressed for years.
