2006 Land rover Range rover problems
The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line was launched in 1970 by British Leyland and is now in its fifth generation.
Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
History
The Rover Company (originator of the Land Rover marque) was experimenting with a larger model than the Land Rover Series in 1951, when the Rover P4-based two-wheel-drive "Road Rover" project was developed by Gordon Bashford. This was shelved in 1958 and the idea lay dormant until 1966, when engineers Spen King and Bashford set to work on a new model.
The first Range Rover prototype was built in 1967 with plate number SYE 157F. The design of the Range Rover was finalised in 1969. Twenty-six Velar-badged engineering development vehicles were built between 1969 and 1970 and were road registered with the number plates YVB151H through to YVB177H.
Though being chassis no. 3, YVB 153H is believed to have been the first off the production line as a vehicle in that colour was urgently required for marketing. (The Range Rover with chassis no. 1 was a green model with the registration "YVB 151H", and is now on exhibition at Huddersfield Land Rover Centre, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire). The Velar name was derived from the Italian "velare" meaning to veil or to cover. Range Rover development engineer Geof Miller used the name as a decoy for registering pre-production Range Rovers. The Velar company was registered in London and produced 40 pre-production vehicles that were built between 1967 and 1970.
The Range Rover was launched in 1970. In the early 1970s, the Musée du Louvre in Paris exhibited a Range Rover as an "exemplary work of industrial design".
In 1971, ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker used the unproven Range Rover to drive from Algeria to Lagos, Nigeria, to set up a recording studio and jam with Fela Kuti. Predating the Paris-Dakar rally the subsequent documentary is replete with such terrain, documenting the vehicle's endurance.
In 1972, the British Trans-Americas Expedition became the first vehicle-based expedition to traverse the Americas from north to south, including traversing the roadless Darién Gap. The specially modified Range Rovers used for this expedition are now on display in the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust collection at Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Range Rover sub-brands have been launched. In 2004, Land Rover debuted the Range Rover Sport, based on the Land Rover Discovery platform. Later models received the latest Range Rover platform. In 2011 came the Range Rover Evoque, and in 2017 the Range Rover Velar (re-using the name of the very first, pre-production Range Rovers).

Common 2006 Land rover Range rover problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 2006 Land Rover Range Rover, several common problems have been reported:
- Electronic and Software Glitches: Owners have reported electronic and software glitches, manifesting as false warning lights or unusual sounds. Restarting the engine may temporarily resolve these issues, but persistent problems could indicate more serious faults that require attention.
- Rear Lights Filling with Rainwater: Some earlier models experienced rear lights filling with rainwater, which was addressed under warranty. It is advisable to check for this issue to prevent potential electrical problems and ensure safety on the road.
- Air Suspension Failures: The standard air suspension in Range Rovers can suffer from failures, often attributed to compressor issues. Owners should check the responsiveness of the suspension settings and ensure the car maintains the chosen height when parked to detect any leaks in the system.
- Automatic Gearbox Concerns: While generally robust, there have been reports of premature failures in the automatic gearboxes of Range Rovers. Monitoring any unusual noises or performance issues related to the gearbox is recommended to address potential problems early on.
- Suspension Wear with Larger Wheels: Vehicles equipped with 20-inch wheels or larger are more prone to suspension wear, particularly in the rear hub bushes. Owners should be attentive to clonking noises over bumps, indicating potential issues with the suspension system.
- Brake Pad Replacement: According to repair data, Range Rovers typically require new brake pads every 30,000 miles, which is earlier than the average for luxury SUVs. Regular maintenance and monitoring of brake performance are essential for safe driving.
- Ball Joints and Bushings Wear: Due to the vehicle's weight, ball joints and bushings can suffer advanced wear compared to smaller cars. Owners should budget for replacements if these components have not been changed in recent years to maintain the car's performance and safety .
These common problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance, thorough inspections, and addressing issues promptly to ensure the longevity and reliability of the 2006 Land Rover Range Rover.

AIR BAGS,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-11-01
- VIN: SALSF25426A
- Components: AIR BAGS,STRUCTURE
- Summary: THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG ON THE DASHBOARD IS STARTING TO PREMATURELY SPLIT ON TOP OF THE DASHBOARD SURFACE AROUND THE ENTIRE OUTLINE OF THE AIRBAG. THE CRACK HAS PROGRESSED IN A PRECIOUS OUTLINE OF THE CUTOUT OF THE AIRBAG. AFTER CONTACTING LAND ROVER OF AMERICA ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THEY CONSIDERS THIS AS A "WEAR AND TEAR" AND THEY STATE THIS WILL NOT EFFECT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. NOTE: THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT OWNERS OF THE 2006-2009 MODELS HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING (PER MULTI LAND ROVER WEBSITE FORUMS) THAT LAND ROVER HAS NOW REDESIGNED THE DASHBOARD ON THE NEWER MODELS TO HAVE THE CUTOUT OF THE AIRBAG ALREADY DESIGNED INTO THE DASHBOARD SO THIS TYPE OF DEFECT WILL NOT OCCUR. I'M VERY CONCERNED WITH THIS TYPE OF DESIGN DEFECT ESPECIALLY IF THE AIRBAG IS NEEDED DURING A COLLISION WHETHER IT WILL FUNCTION PROPERLY AND THE FACT THAT LAND ROVER OF AMERICA IS INSTRUCTING ITS CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES TO ADVISE CONSUMERS THAT THIS IS A "WEAR AND TEAR" ISSUE. I WOULD APPRECIATE FOR THE DOT NHTSA TO REVIEW MY CONCERNS AND CONDUCT AN INVESTIGATION WITH LAND ROVER REGARDING THIS MATTER ON MY 2006 RANGE ROVER SPORT. THANK YOU *TR
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-08-19
- VIN: SALMF134X6A
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: THERE IS A RECALL ON MY FRONT BRAKE LINES. THE RECALL NUMBER IS 15V-039. I HAD MY BRAKE LINES REPLACED PRIOR TO THE RECALL BEING ISSUED. THE RECALL STATES THAT THE MANUFACTURER WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE LINES FOR FREE OR REIMBURSE ME IF I HAD THE LINES DONE PRIOR TO THE RECALL. I PRESENTED A RECEIPT FOR THE REPAIR AND THE DEALER IN LITTLE ROCK IS REFUSING TO REIMBURSE ME. THEY STATED THAT THE REPAIR MUST BE PERFORMED BY AN AUTHORIZED LAND ROVER DEALER USING LAND ROVER PARTS. I HAD THE REPAIR PERFORMED USING LAND ROVER PARTS, HOWEVER I DID NOT TAKE IT TO A DEALER. MY MECHANIC WORKED FOR THIS DEALERSHIP FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND IS AN AUTHORIZED LAND ROVER MECHANIC WHEN HE LEFT. I VIEW THIS AS AN ATTEMPT TO TRY AND NOT PAY ME AND I DON'T THINK IT IS REASONABLE OR FAIR. I WOULD SINCERELY APPRECIATE SOME ASSISTANCE! *TR

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-02-10
- VIN: SALSF25476A
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: AFTER MY 2006 RANGE ROVER SPORT HSE I PURCHASED ARRIVED FROM ANOTHER STATE, I DECIDED TO DRIVE IT TO THE GAS STATION TO FILL UP WHICH WAS LESS THAN A MILE AWAY. AS I APPROACHED THE MY DESTINATION I TURNED ON MY RIGHT TURN SIGNAL TO MERGE INTO THE EXIT LANE AND MY VEHICLE CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP. I IMMEDIATELY PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK AND CALLED THE DEALER IN WHICH I BOUGHT IT FROM. THEY ASKED IF I PUSHED THE PARKING BRAKE OR CHANGED THE DRIVING MODE. THEY ASKED ME TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON TO SEE IF IT WOULD RESET ITSELF, BUT IT DIDN'T MOVE. AFTER ALL OPTIONS FAILED, I WAS INSTRUCTED BY THE DEALER TO GET IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST RANGE ROVER REPAIR SHOP. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REMOVE FROM THE TOW TRUCK, THE DRIVER SAID IT LOOKS LIKE YOUR FRONT END SEIZED AS HE NOTICED THE FRONT TIRES WERE NOT TURNING. I AM LUCKY AND BLESSED THAT I WAS NOT GOING FASTER OR THAT ANYONE WAS BEHIND ME WHILE TRAVELING 25 MPH WHICH I FEEL WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT SURE TO HAPPEN. MY HEART STILL RACES WHEN I THINK OF MY SITUATION AND WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPEN. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING WORD FROM THE DEALER OF WHAT CAUSED THIS PROBLEM. *TR

Our RR has proven to be a more reliable and comfortable vehicle than our 2006 LS430 Lexus, which we owned for the same period. With about 53,000 miles and almost 4 years of use, we have kept up with the maintenance and the car is running great. The only issue we have encountered is early wear and tear on the seats, which we attribute to changes in the leather finishing process due to environmental regulations. Despite this, we continue to enjoy every mile we drive in this awesome vehicle.

I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any issues with your RRSC! It sounds like it's a powerful car, although it does seem to require a lot of fuel. It's great that you're able to keep up with the demand for premium gas. Overall, it sounds like a great car to have if you're able to afford it.

I recently purchased the 2006 Range Rover Supercharged just a week ago. I couldn't wait for the 2007 model in November, so I got the car off the showroom. I chose the Chawton White/Ivory with Piano Black Trim and I absolutely love the clean look it has. Every time I sit in the driver's seat, I can't help but smile because you know you're probably the only person on the road with this car. The way this car rides and steers just amazes me all the time. Even though it's a bit expensive, this car will satisfy all your car needs. It also rides better than my MBZ S500 4Matic.

I see that you have owned a 2005 Range Rover, 2004 Discovery, and a 2004 Lexus 470. I must say that the 2006 SC Range Rover is truly exceptional. It boasts superb build quality, excellent handling, and a unique and stylish design that sets it apart from the rest.

The Range Rover (RR) is undeniably a stunning SUV, but it may not be the most reliable option out there. Unfortunately, the rumors about its frequent maintenance needs are true. It can be frustrating to own a vehicle that requires service every 3 or 4 months, especially when it costs over $80,000. However, the service department at the dealerships are always ready to help. While owning this vehicle can be challenging, it is important to remember that the RR is still a remarkable SUV.

I love the look of the Range Rover and its off-road capabilities are impressive. However, my personal experience with this car has been frustrating due to its unreliability. Unfortunately, I have been informed by my service advisors that there are known electrical problems that cannot be fixed. Despite this, I appreciate the car's strengths and will continue to enjoy it as much as possible.
Maximilian Corkery 2024-07-18
It looks like the transmission slips quite dramatically to 3rd at 60 mph and the engine light came on at 1000 miles due to a mass airflow issue. Could you please help me understand what might be wrong with this vehicle? I noticed that the 300 horsepower claim for the HSE model seems like a blatant lie when compared to the BMW X3. Do you think there might be a recall for this issue?

My husband bought this car as a gift, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a lemon. The engine kept cutting off, and we were told it was due to altitude problems, so they added a chip. The navigation system went insane, but thankfully, they were able to fix it by adding another chip. The radio also got stuck on a single station and wouldn't turn off, but it was eventually fixed. Unfortunately, the computer system was changing commands by itself, and the car spent more time at the shop than with us. We finally got a new car through trade assist, and we've had this one for 3 weeks now. The engine light came on the other day, but they said it was nothing. We'll see...

I finally got it! At first, I thought it was the love of my life - the body, the presents. It was a huge ego booster. Unfortunately, there were some issues. In the first week, there were some leaks, but they were fixed under warranty. Then, the keys messed up after 6 months, but another dealer replaced them under warranty. There were more problems down the line, including issues with road side assistance and a bad computer at only 5000 miles. Unfortunately, the battery change cost $500. Despite all of this, I still think it was worth it. However, I would think twice before buying from this dealer again.
