2000 Land rover Range rover problems
The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line was launched in 1970 by British Leyland and is now in its fifth generation.
Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
History
The Rover Company (originator of the Land Rover marque) was experimenting with a larger model than the Land Rover Series in 1951, when the Rover P4-based two-wheel-drive "Road Rover" project was developed by Gordon Bashford. This was shelved in 1958 and the idea lay dormant until 1966, when engineers Spen King and Bashford set to work on a new model.
The first Range Rover prototype was built in 1967 with plate number SYE 157F. The design of the Range Rover was finalised in 1969. Twenty-six Velar-badged engineering development vehicles were built between 1969 and 1970 and were road registered with the number plates YVB151H through to YVB177H.
Though being chassis no. 3, YVB 153H is believed to have been the first off the production line as a vehicle in that colour was urgently required for marketing. (The Range Rover with chassis no. 1 was a green model with the registration "YVB 151H", and is now on exhibition at Huddersfield Land Rover Centre, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire). The Velar name was derived from the Italian "velare" meaning to veil or to cover. Range Rover development engineer Geof Miller used the name as a decoy for registering pre-production Range Rovers. The Velar company was registered in London and produced 40 pre-production vehicles that were built between 1967 and 1970.
The Range Rover was launched in 1970. In the early 1970s, the Musée du Louvre in Paris exhibited a Range Rover as an "exemplary work of industrial design".
In 1971, ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker used the unproven Range Rover to drive from Algeria to Lagos, Nigeria, to set up a recording studio and jam with Fela Kuti. Predating the Paris-Dakar rally the subsequent documentary is replete with such terrain, documenting the vehicle's endurance.
In 1972, the British Trans-Americas Expedition became the first vehicle-based expedition to traverse the Americas from north to south, including traversing the roadless Darién Gap. The specially modified Range Rovers used for this expedition are now on display in the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust collection at Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Range Rover sub-brands have been launched. In 2004, Land Rover debuted the Range Rover Sport, based on the Land Rover Discovery platform. Later models received the latest Range Rover platform. In 2011 came the Range Rover Evoque, and in 2017 the Range Rover Velar (re-using the name of the very first, pre-production Range Rovers).

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-08-25
- Fire: 1
- VIN: SALPF1543YA
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: I WAS DRIVING AT ~10-15 MPH AROUND LAKE MEAD IN NV. AS I PULLED TO A STOP SIGN SMOKE BEGAN TO COME FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING AND TRIED TO NAVIGATE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ALL THE CARS SYSTEMS WENT OUT BEFORE I GOT IT OFF THE ROAD (30 SECONDS FROM THE FIRST SMOKE) AND THE SMOKE WAS BILLOWING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I JUMPED OUT AND TRIED TO OPEN THE HOOD, STILL THINKING IT WAS OVERHEATING, BUT I WAS UNABLE TO FIND THE CATCH. I DECIDED TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE CAR JUST IN CASE. I WALKED ABOUT 10 PACES AWAY FROM THE CAR AND TURNED TO SEE FIRE DRIPPING DOWN FROM THE FRONT. I DECIDED TO CALL 911. THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES BEFORE I COULD DIAL. BY THE TIME THE 911 OPERATOR PICKED UP THE CAR WAS ENGULFED UP TO THE MIDDLE OF THE BODY AND THE TIRES BEGAN EXPLODING (THIS COULD BE HEARD BY THE 911 OPERATOR). BY THE TIME I GOT OFF THE PHONE THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED (THIS WAS LESS THAN 3 MIN FROM SEEING THE FIRST SMOKE). THE CAR BURNED COMPLETELY, LEAVING NO TRACE OF ANYTHING BUT THE METAL FRAME. WHAT IS MOST DISTURBING IS THAT THE BODY/INTERIOR BURNED AS IF THEY HAD BEEN DOUSED WITH AN INCENDIARY. THEY WENT UP SO FAST AND SHOULDN'T BE FLAMMABLE AT ALL. JUST TO EMPHASIZE THIS, I WAS HAULING A SM TRAILER THAT HAD A CANVAS COVER AND THE TARP WAS ONLY SCORCHED AT THE FRONT; NOT BURNING AT ALL. I FOUND MANY OTHER FIRES OF THIS RANGE ROVER JUST LIKE MINE REPORTED ON THE INTERNET. I AM FAIRLY CERTAIN THAT THESE FIRES ARE CAUSED BY A VERY FLAMMABLE HOOD LINER AND THAT THESE CARS ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. WHEN I BOUGHT MY RANGE ROVER USED I HAD NOTICED THAT THE HOOD LINER WAS BURNED WHERE IT WAS CLOSEST TO THE TOP OF THE ENGINE AND IT SEEMED TO BE CAUSED BY THE ENGINE HEAT, BUT I HADN'T RULED OUT HUMAN ACTION. I WAS CONSIDERING TEARING THE LINER OUT WHEN MY CAR BURNED UP (I HAD NOT OWNED THE CAR LONG). *TR

This SUV is so much fun to drive, whether you're on the road or off it! I took it out for a spin the weekend I got it and it powered through 2 feet of mud and forest (even snow!) without even a hint of hesitation. When I drove it back on the highway at 130km per hour, it felt just like driving a regular car. The gas mileage in the city is surprisingly good, even for those who aren't particularly environmentally conscious, and on the highway it's great for a vehicle of this size, getting 22.8 mpg.
-
After buying a used 2000 HSE and putting about 40,000 miles on it, we've been pleasantly surprised by its reliability. In that time, we only had to replace the tie-rod ends and the driver's seat heater element. Everything else has been working perfectly and it still drives like new. The Michelin tires are hardly worn (original!). We appreciate the small details, such as the dimmable side mirrors, but it's the solid and unflappable performance on poor traction surfaces that makes it our favorite vehicle.
-
The air suspension is really cool! The power is impressive for a 6500lbs truck and the gas mileage averages around 14.7. The off-road ability is truly unmatched. Whether you're headed to the opera or pulling a Hummer out of the mud, you can have confidence in the versatility and ability of this vehicle.

There were 10 things I wanted to do before I die and go to heaven. Number 4 on that list was to own a Range Rover. This amazing vehicle reminds me of my first real love...smooth...silky...and something everybody else wishes they had...enough said!

We really enjoyed the off-road capabilities of this large SUV. After purchasing it, we attended a Rover-sponsored event to learn off-roading. We were beginners and joined about 8 other Rovers, mostly Discoveries but two Defenders. It was quite amusing to see how we out-performed everything in our group while roaming in air-conditioned comfort. I truly believe that when these Rovers are in their prime, they are at the top for luxury and can take you anywhere a 4-wheeler can go.
Okey Kilback 2024-11-19
The best day of owning this vehicle was the day we sold it. And even that was a loss. However, I must admit that this vehicle was a gem to drive on vacation or long term trips- and the AWD was amazing. Although, it did have some issues such as no heat on driver side, brake job, and heated seats never worked. Additionally, driving around town was a bit of a challenge as I would get cramps in my arms from the effort it took to keep this vehicle driving straight.

I love using my Range Rover--it really performs! Whether I'm driving through snow, mud, or sand, or going up hills and down, it never complains. Towing is a breeze thanks to its stable frame. Throughout it all, my RR has been outstanding. The excellent driver visibility and superior lighting make it a real treat to drive.

Hey there! I recently sold my car back to the dealership where I originally bought it. I had it for 8 months and put 5000 miles on it, but unfortunately, I had to make 4 trips to the dealership and even experienced a breakdown. It's a shame because the car only had 20,000 miles when I first purchased it.
Larue Botsford 2024-08-06
I bought my truck in November 2000 and it's a special edition - only 25 were made (125 were planned, but only 25 made it out). I absolutely love my car and plan on driving it for as long as possible, even though it's a Range Rover. While Rovers aren't exactly known for their reliability, it's more a matter of having a good one or a less good one. During my ownership, I've had to replace a fair amount of parts, which has cost me around $10,000 since new. I also know that since my warranty expired, I'll need to put in about $4-5k. If you're considering a Range Rover, I would suggest going Japanese, unless a Land Rover/Range Rover is a must-have.
