Honda Cr-v problems

The Honda CR-V (also sold as the Honda Breeze in China since 2019) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1995. Initial models of the CR-V were built using the same platform as the Civic.
Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, United Kingdom, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, United States, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana, United States, in February 2017. The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, and also marketed as the Breeze in China for the version produced at Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda.
Honda states "CR-V" stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle," while the term "Compact Recreational Vehicle" is used in a British car review article that was republished by Honda, associating the model name with the Sports Utility Vehicle abbreviation of SU-V.
As of 2022, the CR-V is positioned between the smaller ZR-V (marketed as HR-V in North America) – which the CR-V shares platform with – and the larger North American market Passport/Pilot or the Chinese market Avancier/UR-V. It is currently Honda's best-selling vehicle in the world, and the second best-selling SUV globally in 2020.

Common Honda Cr-v problems
The Honda CR-V is a popular compact SUV known for its reliability, but like any vehicle, it has had its share of common problems reported by owners. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues, based on the search results:
- Heat Not Working Properly (2017 CR-V): Owners of the 2017 CR-V have reported problems with the heating system, with an average cost to fix of $1,200 and an average mileage of 11,000 miles.
- Excessive Oil Consumption (2010 CR-V): The 2010 CR-V has been reported to have issues with excessive oil consumption, with an average cost to fix of $2,500 and an average mileage of 81,000 miles.
- Air Conditioning Blowing Warm Air: This is a common problem across various CR-V model years, with the A/C compressor potentially seizing and failing, leading to debris spreading through the HVAC system. This problem could cost about $900 to $1,400 to fix.
- Door Locks Sticking: This issue has been reported by thousands of CR-V owners, with the tumblers likely worn and requiring replacement. The average cost to fix this issue is about $100.
- Groaning Noises: This problem is common in CR-Vs with over 100,000 miles, with the rear differential fluid breaking down and causing groaning noises. Servicing the rear differential typically fixes this issue and costs about $50 to $150.
- Fuel Pump Issues (2018-2019 CR-V): CR-Vs manufactured from the start of production up until 5 March 2019 may have an issue with the fuel pump module, which requires a new module to be fitted to resolve the issue.
- Airbag Absorption of Moisture: The absorption of moisture into the driver’s airbag propellant could lead to slow deployment or inflator rupture.
These issues are not exhaustive, and the frequency and severity of these problems may vary depending on the specific model year and individual vehicle. It is essential to thoroughly inspect any used vehicle before purchasing and be aware of these potential issues.

- Summary: (1) Recall Summary American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is recalling specific 2023-2025 CR-V vehicles due to a defect in the steering gearbox worm wheel. This improperly produced component may swell during use, which compromises the grease film thickness between the worm wheel and worm gear. Furthermore, the worm gear's spring preload was set too high, escalating the sliding force between these parts. Consequently, the combination of reduced grease film and increased friction leads to greater resistance during steering. Safety Risk The heightened friction between the worm gear and worm wheel results in increased steering effort and difficulty, significantly elevating the risk of a crash or injury. (2) Recall Summary American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is urgently recalling certain 2023-2025 multi-model year Honda vehicles due to critical defects in the high-pressure fuel pump. The improper production has led to the formation of cracks at the solenoid core component, which can result in a dangerous fuel leak during operation, especially in lower mileage vehicles. Safety Risk The presence of a fuel leak poses an extreme risk, as it can ignite in the presence of an ignition source. This scenario significantly heightens the risk of fire, crash, or serious injury, demanding immediate attention and action. I contacted the American Findlay Honda Management Department in Henderson, Nevada, only to be hit with a stark refusal; they will not place me in a new 2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring. As a long-time customer, I felt utterly bewildered and crushed by this response. Just weeks ago, they aggressively pushed this specific vehicle to me, fully aware that significant recalls were on the horizon. This is not just terrible news—it’s a blatant betrayal by management! I am seriously contemplating legal action against American Honda and Findlay Honda in Henderson, Nevada. Their actions scream deceit and predation; they are nothing less than crooks and sharks

- Date Complaint: 2024-10-26
- VIN: 7FARW1H82LE
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: 1) “Collision Mitigation Braking System” (CMBS); CMBS still exists on this car. 2) Potential for getting rear-ended. 3) My brother with similar CR-V reports random CMBS braking. 4) No 5) CMBS first brake warning only after I started letting up off the brake pedal. CMBS produced 2nd brake warning just as it slammed on the brakes - AFTER distance between my car and car in front was already increasing (ie - no chance for collision). First appearance: I've been getting false CMBS brake alarms since purchase of car - this was the first time CMBS slammed on the brakes. I've heard other stories about CMBS type systems causing wrecks, etc... - I believe CMBS type systems need to be removed from all cars.

Overall, the car is pretty nice. However, there are a few downsides that I would like to mention. Firstly, the stereo is not up to the mark, even though our Touring model supposedly has the upgraded sound system. Secondly, the safety tech is okay but overrated. The radar-based cruise control is what I find most useful, but it has its quirks. Lastly, the road noise could be better. I am planning to add some additional sound deadening to the doors and floor once the warranty expires.

I have driven almost 110,000 miles and unfortunately my AC compressor imploded. While I was initially unaware that this was a known issue, I reached out to Honda for assistance. Although they denied any knowledge of the problem, I pointed out that it was well documented on the web and requested the zone manager's contact information. Within 15 minutes, I received a call back and was asked to bring my car in for diagnosis. I am pleased to say that Honda covered just over 50% of the repair cost, which was still $750. While it was disappointing to experience a defect, I appreciate Honda's willingness to address the issue and provide assistance.

Vehicle year: 2009
I bought my '09 CRV in January 2011. It was a leased car and had only 16,000 miles on it. At that time, I was considering a 2011 Hyundai Tucson, a 2011 Toyota RAV4, a Toyota Venza, and a Chevy Traverse. I have really enjoyed driving this car. It's very comfortable on long trips (I've driven it cross-country 4 times), has enough power for me, and the cargo area is much larger in cubic feet than most other small SUVs. I have dogs, which I take to weekend events, and the rear easily holds 2 crates, although I am concerned if I were rear-ended whether they would be safe. I have had it routinely serviced at a Honda dealer, replaced the battery once, and put new tires on every 25-30,000 miles. A few months ago, the TPMS light went on, and sure enough, I had a damaged tire that had to be replaced. The downside is that it kept coming on at least once a week, which would cause me to panic and immediately look for a service center. After a few weeks of this, I took it to my Honda dealer. They told me all 4 tire sensors were shot and needed to be replaced. The total cost for parts and labor was $500. The only complaints I have (which Honda has not improved/changed) are: road noise, it should get better mileage for a small 4-cylinder engine, no vents to deliver air to the back seat or rear compartment, and the backseat does not fold completely flat. I had planned on trading it in for a new SUV last year, only to be told by several dealers that they would only give me wholesale price for it. The reason? It is one of the millions of vehicles that has a defective airbag. Honda sent me the recall notice several months ago, and I immediately called to be put on the list. After several months, I finally called my Honda dealer and made a fuss about the airbag replacement. They miraculously found some, gave me a loaner, and had the job done in a matter of days. Would I purchase another Honda CRV? Maybe.

Congratulations on your new 2012 Honda CRV EX! It's great to hear that you've already put 3000 miles on it in just 2 months. Compared to your previous 2004 CRV, you've noticed that the new model is much quieter, rides smoother, and has a more modern look. The hands-free Bluetooth feature is a great addition, making it easier to stay connected while on the go. It's wonderful that you chose the CRV over the Toyota RAV4 because of the comfortable seats and the flat space between them, which is perfect for storing your wife's purse. The softer fabric on the seats is also a nice touch. It's impressive that you were able to get 28 mpg at 70 mph and even better, around 31 mpg at 60 mph on rural highways during your long trip. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

I recently needed a new car after my 2003 Toyota RAV was totaled. Although I loved my old car and could have driven it forever, I was excited to find a reliable replacement. Unfortunately, due to the state's closure, it was difficult to find a dealership that was open. However, I was fortunate enough to receive immediate help from Wenatchee and was able to purchase my new car within a week! I am absolutely thrilled with my new car. It handles corners and accelerates on the freeway with ease, and there is no road noise. The climate control is immediate and the heated seats are delightful. I also love the leather seats and the elevated gear shift is really neat. The color, Sonic Grey Pearl, is also a great choice. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase!

Hey there! I wanted to share my experience with this vehicle. Unfortunately, I've had some issues with the engine pumping gasoline into the oil crankcase. Despite what Honda claims, it's not just a matter of cold weather or short drives. Even though I have a heated garage and drive over 45 minutes of highway miles each day without stopping, this problem still occurred in the summer. I've been having trouble getting the dealership to take action and fix the issue, which is concerning because it could cause long-term damage to the engine. Just wanted to give you a heads up!

After 2 years, I noticed gas in the oil and returned to the dealer to report the condition. Although the dealer refused to document the condition, I still love the vehicle. However, I wouldn't recommend the engine due to the gas in the oil issue. I have had 2 Hondas that have lasted over 200K, but unfortunately, the 2018 CRV is not living up to my expectations. The gas in the oil is a real issue, and regardless of Honda claiming it is normal, that is false. No engine can handle oil dilution without having a premature bearing surface wear problem and oil seal problems in the future. The engine life will be reduced, and the oil with added gas requires more frequent changes. I have smelled gas in the oil with 50 miles on a fresh oil change, and with a little over 1000 miles, the oil level is so high it makes you want to change it. I'm afraid the earthdreams engine design will require a major redesign. However, it is important to note that this issue is not isolated to the cold northern states. It is happening in hot states such as Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Florida, Tennessee, and more. I wish I didn't buy this vehicle, but I hope Honda can find a solution to this problem soon.

With less than 53,000 miles on my 2003 CR-V, I have invested over $4,500 in the past 8 months on new AC, new struts, new ABS brakes, new emissions controller, new SRS controller and more. These investments were necessary to ensure the longevity and reliability of my vehicle. It is unfortunate that these repairs were needed shortly after my warranty expired, but I am confident in the quality of the repairs and the continued performance of my CR-V.

Despite overwhelming evidence of an electrical system issue causing the car's battery to die a slow death between two and three years, including a recall to address the software causing the problem, Honda should replace the battery that their design destroyed. It is unusual to have to replace a battery in a new car at 33 months. Honda needs to take responsibility for their design flaw and provide a solution. While this experience has been disappointing, I believe Honda can do better and I hope they will take the necessary steps to address this issue.

I have been experiencing an issue with my vehicle where the SRS light is on. After taking it to the Honda dealer and running some codes, they have informed me that I need a new SRS module or something similar, which will require a replacement of the entire SRS system at a cost of nearly $1,000. Unfortunately, this problem began at 105K, just outside of the warranty period. Although I am the second owner of the vehicle, having purchased it from a used dealer at 88k, I tried reaching out to customer service for assistance. While they initially sounded willing and able to help me fix this as a safety issue, the case worker at Honda ultimately informed me that I am not covered for any warranty consideration. It is important to note that while other 2002 CR-Vs had a recall on SRS, mine did not. Additionally, Honda recently issued a Warranty Extension on OPDS system to 120K/10 yrs., but this is not related to the entire SRS failure-sensor issue. I am disappointed in Honda's response to this issue and hope that they will reconsider their decision.
