Honda Cr-v problems

The Honda CR-V (also sold as the Honda Breeze in China since 2019) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1995. Initial models of the CR-V were built using the same platform as the Civic.
Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, United Kingdom, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, United States, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana, United States, in February 2017. The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, and also marketed as the Breeze in China for the version produced at Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda.
Honda states "CR-V" stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle," while the term "Compact Recreational Vehicle" is used in a British car review article that was republished by Honda, associating the model name with the Sports Utility Vehicle abbreviation of SU-V.
As of 2022, the CR-V is positioned between the smaller ZR-V (marketed as HR-V in North America) – which the CR-V shares platform with – and the larger North American market Passport/Pilot or the Chinese market Avancier/UR-V. It is currently Honda's best-selling vehicle in the world, and the second best-selling SUV globally in 2020.

Common Honda Cr-v problems
The Honda CR-V is a popular compact SUV known for its reliability, but like any vehicle, it has had its share of common problems reported by owners. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues, based on the search results:
- Heat Not Working Properly (2017 CR-V): Owners of the 2017 CR-V have reported problems with the heating system, with an average cost to fix of $1,200 and an average mileage of 11,000 miles.
- Excessive Oil Consumption (2010 CR-V): The 2010 CR-V has been reported to have issues with excessive oil consumption, with an average cost to fix of $2,500 and an average mileage of 81,000 miles.
- Air Conditioning Blowing Warm Air: This is a common problem across various CR-V model years, with the A/C compressor potentially seizing and failing, leading to debris spreading through the HVAC system. This problem could cost about $900 to $1,400 to fix.
- Door Locks Sticking: This issue has been reported by thousands of CR-V owners, with the tumblers likely worn and requiring replacement. The average cost to fix this issue is about $100.
- Groaning Noises: This problem is common in CR-Vs with over 100,000 miles, with the rear differential fluid breaking down and causing groaning noises. Servicing the rear differential typically fixes this issue and costs about $50 to $150.
- Fuel Pump Issues (2018-2019 CR-V): CR-Vs manufactured from the start of production up until 5 March 2019 may have an issue with the fuel pump module, which requires a new module to be fitted to resolve the issue.
- Airbag Absorption of Moisture: The absorption of moisture into the driver’s airbag propellant could lead to slow deployment or inflator rupture.
These issues are not exhaustive, and the frequency and severity of these problems may vary depending on the specific model year and individual vehicle. It is essential to thoroughly inspect any used vehicle before purchasing and be aware of these potential issues.

Honda Cr-v 2023

- Summary: (1) Recall Summary American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is recalling specific 2023-2025 CR-V vehicles due to a defect in the steering gearbox worm wheel. This improperly produced component may swell during use, which compromises the grease film thickness between the worm wheel and worm gear. Furthermore, the worm gear's spring preload was set too high, escalating the sliding force between these parts. Consequently, the combination of reduced grease film and increased friction leads to greater resistance during steering. Safety Risk The heightened friction between the worm gear and worm wheel results in increased steering effort and difficulty, significantly elevating the risk of a crash or injury. (2) Recall Summary American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is urgently recalling certain 2023-2025 multi-model year Honda vehicles due to critical defects in the high-pressure fuel pump. The improper production has led to the formation of cracks at the solenoid core component, which can result in a dangerous fuel leak during operation, especially in lower mileage vehicles. Safety Risk The presence of a fuel leak poses an extreme risk, as it can ignite in the presence of an ignition source. This scenario significantly heightens the risk of fire, crash, or serious injury, demanding immediate attention and action. I contacted the American Findlay Honda Management Department in Henderson, Nevada, only to be hit with a stark refusal; they will not place me in a new 2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring. As a long-time customer, I felt utterly bewildered and crushed by this response. Just weeks ago, they aggressively pushed this specific vehicle to me, fully aware that significant recalls were on the horizon. This is not just terrible news—it’s a blatant betrayal by management! I am seriously contemplating legal action against American Honda and Findlay Honda in Henderson, Nevada. Their actions scream deceit and predation; they are nothing less than crooks and sharks

- Date Complaint: 2024-10-26
- VIN: 7FARW1H82LE
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: 1) “Collision Mitigation Braking System” (CMBS); CMBS still exists on this car. 2) Potential for getting rear-ended. 3) My brother with similar CR-V reports random CMBS braking. 4) No 5) CMBS first brake warning only after I started letting up off the brake pedal. CMBS produced 2nd brake warning just as it slammed on the brakes - AFTER distance between my car and car in front was already increasing (ie - no chance for collision). First appearance: I've been getting false CMBS brake alarms since purchase of car - this was the first time CMBS slammed on the brakes. I've heard other stories about CMBS type systems causing wrecks, etc... - I believe CMBS type systems need to be removed from all cars.

The probably had been on and off but had been consistent recently. We took the vehicle to the dealer on 10/4/24 and they claimed they cannot reproduce the problem but told us that they had been notice the same problems for other CRV and we need to wait for the official recall. Now the problem had been getting worse and it had been affecting the driving and safety when making turns.

Vehicle year: 2011
I bought this car brand new in 2011 and it has been an absolute joy to own. It currently has an impressive 253,000 miles on it and the original transmission is still going strong. I have replaced the brake pads and spark plugs at 210,000 miles and have diligently followed all recommended services. The car also has dealer installed leather seats which are a great addition. I am able to get an impressive 85,000 miles from the tires. Overall, this is the best car I have ever owned, especially compared to my previous Lexus RX which gave me poor service.

Vehicle year: 2014
I have owned a LX AWD model since March 2014 and I am currently leasing a 2015 Escape SE 2.0 AWD, so I can make a comparison. In my opinion, the Honda is noisier than the Escape, but the seats are more comfortable. The back seat is significantly larger than the Escape, which makes putting my daughter in her car seat much easier. Also, there is no comparison in the amount of cargo the CRV can hold compared to the Escape; the CRV wins hands down. The back-up camera is at a better angle than the Escape, and I find the one in the Escape is always covered by water, dirt or snow, whereas the Honda is almost always clean. I prefer the CRV's camera, even though the screen is much smaller. The MPG has been as high as 33 on a road trip from NYC to North Carolina, and I've seen as low as 20 in a NYC winter. Overall, the CRV is averaging 22mpg commuting from Staten Island to Brooklyn in traffic almost every day. Maintenance has been averaging 1x/year, and the most recent scheduled maintenance was the most expensive yet at $240, only because the rear differential fluid had to be changed. If I could name one con, it would definitely be the headlights; they are very poor and do not illuminate the road well at all. There was one recent unexpected expense, which were the brakes at 16,700 miles. The car was sitting for 2.5 weeks while on vacation over the summer, and when we came back, the CRV had developed a thumping sound when pressing the brakes. I took it to a mechanic and was told the excessive heat of 95-100+ plus the large amounts of rain while it was sitting on the street caused the rotors to become warped; $460 later, the thumping went away with new rotors and pads on the front. I don't know if it was an anomaly or if it was the low quality Honda pads and rotors on the car. Otherwise, my wife and I are very happy with the CRV, and we will most likely be getting another Honda when the lease ends on the Escape.

Vehicle year: 2023
I recently purchased the 2023 Sport Touring CR-V to replace my trusty 2007 CR-V. After test driving various competitor cars over the past few years, I ultimately chose the Honda. The quality construction and performance of the Honda CR-V are truly impressive. The balance of comfort and utility is so well thought out that it sets the standard for all comparisons. I was initially concerned about the new hybrid design, having driven a Ford C-Max for the past decade, but I can confidently say that Honda's new hybrid design is even better. On my first long drive, I hit the published EPA numbers with ease. The tech features, including lane assist, adaptive cruise control, 9-inch central console, seat positioning memory, and generative braking mode gear, are all top-notch. It looks like I'll be driving this car for another 15 years!

Vehicle year: 2024
We really enjoyed the 24 CR-V overall. However, we were disappointed to find out that it doesn't come with a spare tire. Maybe we're old-fashioned, but we've had to change a few flats in our 74 years and it's always been a lifesaver. If the tire has a hole too big to fix with the air compressor they provide, you could be waiting a long time for AAA. The last time we called them for help, they told us it would be 6 hours before they could send someone. Additionally, we were surprised to find that the CR-V doesn't come with a rear cargo cover or a console glove box shelf, both of which came with the last three new cars we've had. It just feels like Honda skimped out on a few items that really weren't too expensive. However, the CR-V itself feels like a solid ride. We opted for the hybrid version which has a little over 200hp. It has plenty of power to pass and go up mountains and it gets pretty good gas mileage. We got 38 mpg on the 2-hour drive from the dealership that we bought it from. As for the safety features, we have mixed emotions. While we appreciate the lane-keeping assist feature, it can be uncomfortable with the wheel being jerked around, so we probably won't use it. Also, there is no storage space for things like tools, umbrellas, or a blanket. Our last car, a Prius, had plenty of room for all that stuff. Overall, the CR-V feels solid, is very quiet, and is comfortable and safe feeling.

Vehicle year: 2005
We bought our CRV new in 2005 and it's still running strong at 230,000 miles. The only expenses we've had are fluids, brakes, tires, a battery, and a starter. Treat them well and they'll return the favor. If I could buy another 2005 brand new, I would do it in a heartbeat. We absolutely love this car!
Enrico Zulauf 2025-03-29
Vehicle year: 2015
We purchased our CR-V two weeks ago and unfortunately have experienced significant vibrations both at idle and under way (typically under 2200 RPM). Despite visiting two different dealers and following their recommended software updates, wheel rebalancing, and alignment checks, the issue remains unresolved. After conducting a web search, it appears that this issue is fairly common with this year's model and there is currently no solution in sight. Honda has acknowledged the problem in a Youtube video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEJ45wX9ycI). We are disappointed with the lack of accommodation from the dealer and would recommend considering other options such as Mazda, Hyundai, Ford, etc. before purchasing this vehicle.

The dealer suggested that it is common to spend $418 to have the shields replaced. I would recommend asking your dealer if this issue has been resolved.

I bought a '02 CR-V with 20,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, my AC broke at 65,000 miles and I had to pay $150 to have it fixed. To my dismay, it broke again just 2 months later and Honda quoted me $1000+ to fix it. As I am still making payments, I cannot afford to replace it, which is not ideal in 100 degree California weather. I have always been a loyal Honda customer, and even my Honda mechanic said that I take such good care of it, so he doesn't understand why I have so much trouble with this car. It has had some electrical problems, the stereo had already been replaced when I bought it, and the cruise control only works when it feels like it. Additionally, the rear door latch mysteriously stopped working, the cup holder is broken, and the interior door panel by the window fell off. Despite all of this, I still take great care of my car. I hope Honda can address these issues and improve their quality control.

Congratulations on your new 23 CRV Hybrid! I heard that the 2023 models (not just Honda) don't come with a spare tire, which could be a concern for major blowouts. However, I'm glad to hear that you're taking proactive steps to ensure your safety by purchasing a spare tire, jack, and lug wrench. It's unfortunate that there's a parts shortage affecting the blind side exterior mirror indicator, but I'm sure Honda will address this issue as soon as possible. Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention and enjoy your new vehicle!

I replaced my battery after just one year of use, despite never having to do so in the past 4-5 years. Additionally, my air conditioner has malfunctioned every year. While the dealership has not acknowledged any issues, I am now considering researching other car brands. It is clear that my driving style and phone usage are not the cause of these problems.
