2001 Honda Cr-v problems
The Honda CR-V (also sold as the Honda Breeze in China since 2019) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1995. Initial models of the CR-V were built using the same platform as the Civic.
Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, United Kingdom, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, United States, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana, United States, in February 2017. The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, and also marketed as the Breeze in China for the version produced at Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda.
Honda states "CR-V" stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle," while the term "Compact Recreational Vehicle" is used in a British car review article that was republished by Honda, associating the model name with the Sports Utility Vehicle abbreviation of SU-V.
As of 2022, the CR-V is positioned between the smaller ZR-V (marketed as HR-V in North America) – which the CR-V shares platform with – and the larger North American market Passport/Pilot or the Chinese market Avancier/UR-V. It is currently Honda's best-selling vehicle in the world, and the second best-selling SUV globally in 2020.

- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL FROM HONDA IN FEBRUARY OF 2020. THE RECALL NOTICE STATES THAT MY 2001 HONDA CRV IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH HONDA SINCE MARCH 9, 2020 AND THEY HAVE NOT OFFERED A SOLUTION, UPDATES, OR INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY TWO EMPLOYEES THAT THE PART TO FIX THIS ISSUE IS NOT AVAILABLE AND IS NO LONGER MANUFACTURED AT THIS TIME. ONE EMPLOYEE WENT SO FAR AS TO TELL ME THAT IT IS NOT AN ISSUE AND MY VEHICLE IS NOT UNSAFE. THIS IS UNTRUE. THE RECALL NOTICE STATES, "DUE TO A MANUFACTURING ISSUE, THE INFLATOR INSIDE THE DRIVER FRONTAL AIRBAG MODULE MAY ABSORB MOISTURE, WHICH MAY CAUSE THE DRIVER FRONTAL AIRBAG TO MALFUNCTION IN A CRASH WHERE THE AIRBAG DEPLOYS. THE AIRBAG COULD UNDER-INFLATE DURING DEPLOYMENT, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE DRIVER. THE AIRBAG INFLATOR COULD ALSO RUPTURE DURING DEPLOYMENT, WITH METAL FRAGMENTS POSSIBLY STRIKING THE DRIVER OR PASSENGERS, INCREASING THE RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH." THEY ALSO REFUSE TO GIVE A DEADLINE FOR THIS ISSUE TO BE RESOLVED BY. I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT AS OF AUGUST 8,2020 WHILST SITTING HERE WITH HONDA ON THE PHONE.

2001 Honda Cr-v recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2001 Honda Cr-v.
- Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2001-2002 Acura 3.2CL, 2000-2003 Acura 3.5RL, 2000-2001 Acura 3.2TL, Honda CR-V and Honda Odyssey, 2001-2002 Acura MDX and 2000 Accord Coupe, Accord Sedan, Civic Coupe, and Civic Sedan vehicles. These vehicles may have received a replacement driver frontal air bag module as part of a vehicle repair. Due to a manufacturing issue, the replacement NADI inflator may absorb moisture, causing the inflator to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, an inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants. An underinflated air bag cushion may not properly protect the occupant. These scenarios increase the risk of serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the air bags in the vehicles, replacing the driver frontal air bag inflator with an inflator of a different design, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 1, 2020. Owners may contact American Honda's Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138.

I absolutely love owning this car! It handles all kinds of roads and weather conditions perfectly, which is great since I drive through 6 rural counties for work. While it gets good gas mileage, I do wish it had a bit more 'zip' in mountainous areas. The next year's model had a larger engine, but I still think this car is reliable and stylish. It looks more expensive than it actually is and always maintains its good looks. I'm actually considering buying another one since I like it so much - and I'm over 60!

I previously owned an 87 Caprice and I always wondered why all the CR-Vs would toot their horns in snowy conditions. However, this car can get up and go in any condition, handles excellently, and gets up to 24MPG! It truly is like a bobsled with wheels.

We are so happy with our 2001 Honda CR-V! After being in a car accident with our previous vehicle, we were sure that Honda was a good make of vehicle. The CR-V has plenty of leg room, even for my 6'5

This vehicle is excellent in manufacturing and has had zero defects since day 1. It performs very well in snow and rain. I love the styling and feel of it, and the visibility is good. While it may not be a muscle car and has poor acceleration to highway speed, it still performs well at 65mph. There is some wind noise at speed, but the gas mileage is okay at 16-18 city and 20-21 highway. The ground clearance is great, and it's easy to jump curbs to park or get out of minor physical jams (although not always to the Mrs.'s liking).

Over 107,000 miles of stop & go delivery of mail through snow, ice, & mud with no problems. This little SUV has excellent gas mileage on the route, and even better on the highway. While it may not fly around a V6 going up hill, it's the most dependable SUV on the route.

It seems like the car takes a bit longer to get going when changing gears. Additionally, I noticed that the A/C turns on automatically when you turn on the fan for cool vent air or when defrosting. Lastly, the power lock on the passenger front seat doesn't match the driver's side.
Efren Crist 2024-05-19
I can understand why you might question Honda's decision regarding the engine-transmission combination in this SUV. Unfortunately, the vehicle is underpowered, which can be a safety concern on the freeway. It may not provide enough power to avoid potential accidents, such as when truckers change lanes. Additionally, the 3rd and 4th gears are too close together, which means the vehicle frequently needs to shift down to 2nd gear to travel up and over overpasses or maintain speed on hills. This can result in rather poor fuel economy in freeway driving, typically 25 MPG or less. Furthermore, the engine in my vehicle is plagued by misfires and a worn cylinder head, and there is already some rust visible below the side windows. However, I am pleased to report that the dash does not rattle, which is certainly worth something.
Zechariah Howell 2024-05-14
I have read the other reviews on here and I'm wondering if they are driving the same SUV as me. I did experience some issues with the transmission downshifting too hard on a snowy mountain road, but overall, I think the real-time 4-wheel drive is decent. The ride can be a bit harsh and uncomfortable on long trips, and it can get noisy, but it's still a good SUV. The seats are a bit hard, but they're not unbearable. It may be a bit underpowered, especially when the AC is on, but it's still capable of handling the mountains where I live. While it may not be the best SUV for heavy snow and steep inclines, it would be a great choice for areas with less than 4 inches of snow and flat terrain. Overall, I'm satisfied with my Honda, but I'm also considering a Subaru for my next purchase.
Broderick Rutherford 2024-05-11
This is a fantastic little SUV! It handles snow with ease, can handle a rough driveway, and will get you where you need to go no matter what. Living in the mountains, the little 2.0 4-Cylinder struggles at times and the transmission has trouble keeping you at 70 on the interstate, but around town or on a back road, you can't beat this car. It comfortably seats 4 adults, and even at 6 feet tall, I can fit in the back seat without any issues. If it wasn't for the mountains, this would be the perfect small SUV. It starts every morning without any problems, and the leather feels luxurious. Overall, it's a great little vehicle!
Jerrold Sporer 2024-03-25
Your CRV sounds like a great car for a small family! It comfortably fits 3 or 4 teenage girls and handles well on wet or snowy roads. While the clock's placement on the dashboard can be a bit tricky, it's a minor inconvenience. The engine is reliable for daily commutes, but may struggle on steep hills. The driver's side blind spot can be a challenge, but with proper mirror adjustment, it's manageable. Overall, it seems like a reliable and practical choice for a suburban lifestyle.
