2020 Honda Cr-v problems
The Honda CR-V (also sold as the Honda Breeze in China since 2019) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1995. Initial models of the CR-V were built using the same platform as the Civic.
Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, United Kingdom, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, United States, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana, United States, in February 2017. The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, and also marketed as the Breeze in China for the version produced at Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda.
Honda states "CR-V" stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle," while the term "Compact Recreational Vehicle" is used in a British car review article that was republished by Honda, associating the model name with the Sports Utility Vehicle abbreviation of SU-V.
As of 2022, the CR-V is positioned between the smaller ZR-V (marketed as HR-V in North America) – which the CR-V shares platform with – and the larger North American market Passport/Pilot or the Chinese market Avancier/UR-V. It is currently Honda's best-selling vehicle in the world, and the second best-selling SUV globally in 2020.

Common 2020 Honda Cr-v problems
The 2020 Honda CR-V, a popular compact SUV, has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. These issues are not unique to the CR-V, as they are also found in other small SUVs, leading to average repair costs as the vehicle ages.
One of the most widespread complaints from 2020 CR-V owners is dead batteries. This problem usually occurs within the first 5,000 miles and is caused by excessive electrical draw while the vehicle is off. The cost of diagnosing the source of the electrical draw is around $100, and fixing it costs $50 to $100, depending on local labor rates.
Another issue reported by some 2020 Honda CR-V owners is excessive oil consumption. This problem typically shows up around 2,500 miles. While oil consumption is usually within normal ranges, it is recommended that owners check the oil around every 1,000 miles and top it off as needed. Some engines consume more oil to prevent wear and tear.
The automatic braking system engaging too often is another problem mentioned by some CR-V models in the first 1,000 miles. This issue is usually caused by a dirty front braking sensor, which can be fixed by cleaning the sensor. In some cases, the sensor has been replaced under warranty when the issues show up so early.
There are three recalls on the 2020 Honda CR-V, which is similar to some other small SUVs on the market. The most serious recall covers an improper fuel gauge reading, which Honda will replace the fuel tank on affected models for free. Other recalls include the rear frame, which only affects 358 models, and a seat belt buckle, which may not latch. Honda will fix both of those problems for free as well.
Despite these issues, the 2020 Honda CR-V has a well-maintained lifespan of around 250,000 miles, which is only slightly shorter than the long-lasting Toyota RAV4. Regular annual maintenance costs are lower than average, at $387 per year.
The 2020 Honda CR-V is equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 190 horsepower and delivers up to 30 MPG. This engine has had some issues initially, such as vibration and oil dilution, but Honda claims to have rectified these problems. The only transmission available on the 2020 CR-V is a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT)
In summary, the 2020 Honda CR-V has common problems such as dead batteries, excessive oil consumption, and the automatic braking system engaging too often. However, it has a long lifespan and lower than average maintenance costs. The engine has had some issues, but Honda claims to have made changes to address them.
Is 2020 a good year for CR-V?
Yes, the 2020 CR-V is a great used SUV. Other than a lack of physical controls for its infotainment system, it has few major weaknesses. It's one of the most spacious vehicles in the compact SUV class , both for passengers and cargo. It has a premium cabin, great fuel economy estimates, and a capable engine.
Are there any recalls on a 2020 CR-V?
Honda is recalling about 106,000 CR-V hybrid sport-utility vehicles for model years 2020 through 2022. At issue is a 12-volt battery cable that may be missing a fuse, potentially causing the cable to short-circuit or overheat during a crash.
What year CR-V has the least problems?
The second-generation CR-V receives praise for its excellent reliability. If you're looking for a more affordable used Honda CR-V then a second-generation vehicle could be the ideal choice. The 05 and 06 models in particular have very strong Honda CR-V reliability reviews.

- Summary: 1) “Collision Mitigation Braking System” (CMBS); CMBS still exists on this car. 2) Potential for getting rear-ended. 3) My brother with similar CR-V reports random CMBS braking. 4) No 5) CMBS first brake warning only after I started letting up off the brake pedal. CMBS produced 2nd brake warning just as it slammed on the brakes - AFTER distance between my car and car in front was already increasing (ie - no chance for collision). First appearance: I've been getting false CMBS brake alarms since purchase of car - this was the first time CMBS slammed on the brakes. I've heard other stories about CMBS type systems causing wrecks, etc... - I believe CMBS type systems need to be removed from all cars.

- Summary: A warning on the dash that read, "All Wheel System Drive Problem," came up several times during the past few days on my 2020 Honda CRV with only 70,000 miles. It came without any prior warning and power was diverted from all four wheels to just the front wheels. It posed a safety risk because it came so suddenly, but I was able to drive carefully to the dealership. There is a Service Bulletin with Honda with the NHTSA (#23-031) located at [XXX]. This is a known problem with both Honda and the NHTSA, yet there is no active recall. The dealership charged $1260 to have this repaired, even though it's a drivetrain issue and not a common maintenance item. I would like the NHTSA to request a recall with Honda so that I can be reimbursed for this. I have attached a copy of the invoice that Honda provided for the services rendered. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-15
- VIN: 7FARW1H80LE
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The center display consul keeps changing the display. About 6 months ago it appeared to look like water was in the display. By the time I got to the dealer the screen was clear. I was told to take a picture if it happened again. I had approximately 26,000 miles on the car at the time. About a month later the screen went totally dark. I shut off the car and it restarted with a clear screen. About a month after that it went dark again. Restarting the car did not fix the problem but YouTube suggested a restart, which did fix the problem. Nox the A odometer will not reset. The reset option via the stalk or the dashboard computer option will fix the problem. Also, the text voice volume control will not operate. The car now has approximately 30,000 miles on it. I am going to the dealer tomorrow. This problem should not exist in a 4 year old car with 30,000 miles which I purchase new and have maintained meticulously
SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-22
- VIN: 7FART6H89LE
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Yesterday (XXX) while starting my car the warning lights came on notifying me of a potential issue with multiple safety systems including the brake system. My parking brake would not show that it was released and when put in gear the brakes were very mushy and the vehicle did not feel that it could be driven safely. I requested Triple AAA to tow the car to the Honda dealership in Lumberton North Carolina this morning (XXX) as I did not feel that it was safe to drive. A diagnostic test was performed that indicated that the Electric Servo Brake System / Electric Brake Booster System Malfunction was found and that the vehicle needs an Electric Servo Pedal Simulator Unit replaced. This component functions cooperatively with the Regenerative Brakes together with a structure in which pedal force is not influenced by braking pressure control. I have researched this issue and found that this particular problem and the associated part has been recognized as an ongoing problem with some Honda Hybrid models and that it has recently been recalled in Japan, and many Honda owners in the UK have also been experiencing the same malfunction to this part. This appears to be a systemic issue with a part involving select Honda Hybrid models that appears to occur as early as after 20,000 miles and oftentimes shortly after the vehicle involved is out of warranty. American Honda has not officially recognized this problem as a safety issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-15
- VIN: 2HKRW1H8XLH
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: On August 15, 2024, around noon, I was stopped at a red light waiting for the light to turn green. When it finally did, I released my foot from the brake pedal and proceeded to accelerate. Not even 2 seconds later, I heard a beeping sound (from collision mitigation system) and my car abruptly stopped. There was no car in front of me and the car behind me was 2 car distances away. My car abruptly stopped on its own with no obstruction in sight in front or behind. I am very concerned to say the least and now feel unsafe driving my car especially since I drive my children around all the time. The automatic braking system/collision mitigation braking system on my 2020 Honda CRV, although meant to increase safety seems to do the exact opposite. I did some research and learned how to turned the collision mitigation braking system off. I trust my fight or flight response more than this automatic braking system. It seems this is more likely to cause an accident. My vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer for this matter, however, I do plan on scheduling a service appointment to ensure the ABS system is working properly. The vehicle only has 38000 miles and has been driving smoothly, no warning messages or vehicle problems that I am aware of. As a public health professional, I feel it is my duty to report this safety concern. This system seems so faulty and dangerous. Please please please investigate this matter, it's so scary. Sincerely, a public health advocate, wife, and mom of 2. Thank you
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-08
- VIN: 7FARW1H5XLE
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: After warming up, the vehicle’s steering becomes a bit tight, and there's a spot where it feels sticky. At higher speeds, when I need to make slight adjustments to the steering, I notice this stickiness, which forces me to overcorrect momentarily. I'm concerned that if I have to overcorrect too much to compensate for the sticky steering, it could lead to a dangerous situation, especially on the highway.

For the price of the EX model, you get so many bells and whistles. I love all the safety features. It's very comfortable on a trip, with plenty of leg and headroom. It sits up high, giving you great visibility. It's so quiet when driving on the highway, even with 18 wheelers going past. I feel so safe! If you're looking to purchase an SUV, the CRV is a great choice. Test drive one and you'll see what I'm talking about.
-
The car has some great features that make it a practical SUV choice. The handling and cornering are good, and the interior is well-crafted and comfortable. The seats are especially comfortable for tall adults, and the memory seats are very convenient. The car also has lots of safety and driver assist tech that works well. Although the engine noise is loud, the interior is very quiet. The exterior is also great looking compared to the competition. Overall, it's a good choice for those looking for a practical SUV. The infotainment system is not overly complex and the most frequently used functions are easily accessible.

Great ride. The information display is a bit small and clunky to use, but I love the sunroof and the car is very roomy.

This is a smooth riding car. The warranty is outstanding, with a lifetime warranty on powertrain, engine, and transmission.

I test drove all the SUV competitors and found that nothing beats the CRV. I really love the quality and feel of it, and it's also really fun to drive!

Hi there, thank you for considering a Honda CR-V! I wanted to share some concerns I have about the 1.5 turbo engines. It seems that there are some issues with gas getting into the oil, which made me reconsider my purchase. I hope Honda can address these problems soon.

You managed to negotiate an outstanding deal, which is great! Honda even ran the hard credit for you. However, during the test drive, the LKAS had trouble finding the road under conditions that my 3-year-old Toyota would have had no problem with. It seems like the tech is there, but it doesn't work properly.

I purchased a new CRV 2020 EX L model, but unfortunately encountered issues with the display navigation system and Apple CarPlay within the first month. Despite taking my vehicle to the service center for repairs, I have not been satisfied with the results. While online reviews may have been positive, my personal experience has been disappointing. At this time, I cannot give a rating higher than 2.

If you're over 6 feet tall, you might want to consider a different vehicle as the shifter can dig into your right knee. This car is better suited for slimmer individuals. However, if there were just two more inches of leg room and width in the front seat, it would be perfect. On the bright side, it's a quiet car with ample trunk space. Oh, and one thing to note is that it's not the fastest car out there. Additionally, the seat material tends to pill up at the front edge.

If you live in colder climates, it may not be the best idea to purchase this vehicle. It has a tendency to lose heat when stopped, and won't warm up if idling. This can cause gas to leak into the oil, which can be a problem. Honda suggests changing the oil more frequently than recommended to address this issue, but it would be better if they could fix the engine running too rich. A service writer at the dealership mentioned that he fixed his by using a performance programmer, but this could void your warranty. I have had a bad experience with this vehicle, and it seems that there are many of them on the lot.
