The Honda CR-V (also sold as the Honda Breeze in China since 2019) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1995. Initial models of the CR-V were built using the same platform as the Civic.

Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, United Kingdom, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, United States, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana, United States, in February 2017. The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, and also marketed as the Breeze in China for the version produced at Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda.

Honda states "CR-V" stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle," while the term "Compact Recreational Vehicle" is used in a British car review article that was republished by Honda, associating the model name with the Sports Utility Vehicle abbreviation of SU-V.

As of 2022, the CR-V is positioned between the smaller ZR-V (marketed as HR-V in North America) – which the CR-V shares platform with – and the larger North American market Passport/Pilot or the Chinese market Avancier/UR-V. It is currently Honda's best-selling vehicle in the world, and the second best-selling SUV globally in 2020.

Common 2015 Honda Cr-v problems

The 2015 Honda CR-V, a popular compact crossover SUV, has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. Here are some of the issues found in the search results:

  • Spontaneous Sunroof Shattering: Another troubling issue reported with the 2015 CR-V is that of sunroof glass spontaneously shattering while the vehicle is in motion, especially at highway speeds. This has been reported on numerous occasions, with most instances occurring when the vehicle is driving at high speeds. The cause of this issue is still unclear, but it may be related to the sunroof's design or manufacturing process.
  • Front-End Vibration: Numerous complaints have been filed regarding random front-end vibrations on the 2015 Honda CR-V. This issue may be caused by a flaw in the vehicle's continuously variable transmission (CVT) design. The vibration can affect the entire front seat of the vehicle and may be more noticeable at higher speeds.
  • Engine Stalling in Reverse: Some reviewers have complained about the 2015 CR-V stalling while in reverse. This issue may be more likely to occur during cold starts and can potentially cause accidents. The cause of this problem is still under investigation.
  • Weak Battery: A weak battery or corroded or loose battery terminals can cause many electrical problems in the 2012-2016 CR-V, including various warning lights, lack of steering assist, and resetting of the infotainment system. A failed battery is the most common cause for the vehicle not to start. If the battery is getting weaker, it is recommended to have its capacity tested or replace it if it is old.
  • Failed Starter Motor: A failed starter motor is another common reason for a no-start condition in the 2012-2016 CR-V. This issue may require replacing the starter motor to resolve.
  • Unwanted Acceleration When Braking: The 2011 CR-V has been reported to have unwanted acceleration when braking, with an average cost to fix of $5,000 and an average mileage of 16,000 mi. This issue can be dangerous and may require significant repairs to resolve.
  • Heat Not Working Properly: The 2017 CR-V has been reported to have issues with the heat not working properly, with an average cost to fix of $1,200 and an average mileage of 11,000 mi. This issue may be related to the vehicle's heating and ventilation system.
  • Excessive Oil Consumption: The 2010 CR-V has been reported to have excessive oil consumption, with an average cost to fix of $2,500 and an average mileage of 81,000 mi. This issue may be related to the vehicle's engine or oil system.
  • Unintended Braking: Some models produced between 30 August 2012 and 15 October 2014 may have software issues with the automatic emergency braking system, causing the vehicle to suddenly start braking to perform an emergency stop. This issue can be fixed by updating the software used in the system.

When considering purchasing a 2015 Honda CR-V, it is essential to be aware of these common problems and have the vehicle inspected thoroughly to ensure that it is in good condition.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-13
  • VIN: 5J6RM4H9XFL
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Upon pushing start/stop button, CR-V won't start. It's at random times the issue happens. Battery was replaced in the last 6 months. 9/23. Still having issues. Replaced the actual start/stop push button in the cabin. Still having issues. After taking CR-V to Honda dealership, they were able to reproduce the issue and it was determined the starter needs replaced. This SUV has only 77k miles. If you would like more proof as to why this issue for the 2015 needs to have a recall, I would gladly guide you over to the Honda CR-V owner's club and provide numerous posts of people who have replaced their starter specifically in a 2015 with mileage under 80k. A current coworker is experiencing the same issue on his 2015 CR-V EX as well, also in the 70k mileage range. If the reason couldn't be more obvious as to why this is a safety issue, starter failure would leave people stranded.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-16
  • VIN: 2HKRM3H75FH
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: For the very first time I've noticed that my car won't start in a normal way. It was a couple of months ago. It was driving fine back then. Two weeks ago, not only my car won't start many lights came on including the engine service light. I took my car to Columbia Honda dealership; they only tested my battery and told me the battery was fine. So, they let me go. On [XXX] my car experienced the same symptoms but this time besides all these lights that came on, my car was not accelerating, just started stalling, therefore I had to take it to the closest shop which is Custom complete automotive that is 0.5 miles away from me. At first, they weren't able to identify the issue, but they found a service bulletin issued by Honda on March 18 , 2016,(please find it attached to my email) according to which there were multiple complaints from the Honda customers about the same issues that are connected to each other. Those are: crank sensor malfunction, O-ring, Intake manifold gasket A, Engine Wire Harness. Based on this Bulletin, Custom complete automotive manager Kyle recommended that all those parts needed to be replaced but the repair cost is enormous so I've decided only on the crank sensor to be replaced so that I can proceed with further repairs while be able to drive my car (I've attached the Invoice from Custom automotive for the crankshaft sensor including their labor work and diagnostics). Last night same symptoms appeared (car won't start and was stalling) and I took it to Honda service again. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • VIN: 2HKRM4H54FH
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: My 2015 Honda CR-V, at 128,547 miles, with remaining oil life @ 30%, the check oil light is flashing. Took it to the dealership and was told the car was 3 quarts low in oil. After diagnosis, I was told I needed a new engine because my the oil being lost is actually backing up into the engine. To replace the engine would cost me out of pocket $7527.72, because the car is no longer under warranty. Really, at 128,547 miles to replace the engine when the car was purchased and has been serviced by this same dealership? Something is wrong with this picture. I purchased a Honda based on it's decent reputation to stand behind their product. But Honda Corp advised me today that I'm just at a loss in this situation. They have no intentions of making this good for the customer! What a let-down!

Negative 2015 Honda Cr-v car reviews

  1. Abe Hermiston 2024-11-12

There is some good news regarding the rough idle/vibration design flaw - the company has acknowledged its existence. However, there is still no word on when a fix will be available. Unfortunately, the constant vibrations may have an impact on the long term stability of the car. While there is no urgency as the car is not causing harm to anyone or the environment, it is still frustrating to drive a car that vibrates so much every time you stop in traffic. As a lifetime Honda owner, I have never experienced anything like this before. It's a nightmare to drive a car that can't operate without vibrating, and the rough idle feels like the car is about to sputter to a stop. It's a disappointing situation, but I hope the company will find a solution soon. I would advise staying away from this car for now.

  2. Rhett Zboncak 2024-11-10

I recently purchased a Honda CR-V EX-L W/Navigation. While I initially test drove a CR-V and found it to be okay, I ultimately decided to purchase a different color assuming that both cars would perform the same. However, I have noticed that the car experiences some vibration at certain speeds (like 20-30 and 50-60 mph) or when stopped at a signal or stop sign. I have been informed that this is a known issue with Honda CR-Vs, but unfortunately there is no fix available yet. Despite this issue, I still believe that the car is a great purchase. I would recommend taking the time to test drive the car thoroughly before making a purchase, and not solely relying on the brand image. While I am disappointed that this issue may not be resolved during my warranty period, I still believe that the Honda CR-V is a nice car overall.

I am disappointed with the quality of Honda's cars. I have owned two Hondas in my lifetime, both of which had significant issues. My previous car, a 2001 Honda Accord, had a bad transmission. When I purchased my 2015 Honda CRV, it drove well initially, but I soon learned about the reported vibration issues. Although the car drove well for another 10,000 miles, I now experience significant shaking at every stop light, which is reminiscent of the transmission issue I had with my previous Honda Accord. I hope that Honda takes action to address these problems with the 2015 CRV. Despite receiving excellent ratings and reviews upon its initial release, the car does not deliver the expected value and has resulted in many disappointed customers.

Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned the car vibrating at idle and when stopped at a signal light. I think I might be able to help you with that. Would you mind bringing it in for a check-up? Our team of experts can take a look and see what might be causing the issue. Let me know if that works for you!

If you're looking for a car with a reliable voice command system, you may want to consider other options. As a representative who spends a lot of time on the road, I've had some difficulty with the NAV understanding my commands. However, I do appreciate the car's handling and fuel efficiency. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of some other models, it still gets the job done. I do wish that certain features, like an auto tailgate, were available, but overall I'm satisfied with my purchase. Thank you for considering my experience!

This car had a serious vibration problem when at idle and in gear at stop lights, which Honda has admitted to but was not able to fix. However, they have now found a solution and the vehicle no longer vibrates.

The Navigation system requires improvement. It often takes longer routes to reach a location and displays unverified routes on city streets and county roads, even after multiple travels. Despite the manual indicating the option to turn off or lower the voice commands, it does not work. There is room for improvement in the GPS system.

I've had the pleasure of driving many CRVs over the past few years while making dealer trades, and I've always enjoyed the experience. I've never encountered any issues with vibrations at high speeds in any of the vehicles I've driven. However, when I purchased a new 2015 CRV Touring model for my wife in July, I noticed a vibration in the steering wheel at around 70 mph. I took it back to the dealer, and they tried rotating the tires and even swapping out the wheels, but the problem persisted. I even test drove another new CRV Touring and found the same issue. Although it's more of an annoyance than anything, it's certainly not something you'd expect from a brand new $34,000 vehicle. I've been waiting for a fix from Honda, and I'm disappointed that I haven't heard anything yet. On 4/2/2016, Honda issued a recall for the problem, and while the repair helped, it didn't completely solve the issue. As of 10/15/16, the SUV has 26,000 miles on it, and the vibration in the steering wheel at 70 mph is still present. However, it's not enough to affect driving, and everything else about the vehicle has been great.
