The Honda CR-V (also sold as the Honda Breeze in China since 2019) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1995. Initial models of the CR-V were built using the same platform as the Civic.
Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, United Kingdom, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, United States, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana, United States, in February 2017. The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, and also marketed as the Breeze in China for the version produced at Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda.
Honda states "CR-V" stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle," while the term "Compact Recreational Vehicle" is used in a British car review article that was republished by Honda, associating the model name with the Sports Utility Vehicle abbreviation of SU-V.
As of 2022, the CR-V is positioned between the smaller ZR-V (marketed as HR-V in North America) – which the CR-V shares platform with – and the larger North American market Passport/Pilot or the Chinese market Avancier/UR-V. It is currently Honda's best-selling vehicle in the world, and the second best-selling SUV globally in 2020.

Discovered August 5, 2024 when up on lift for a tire rotation. Garage advised vehicle unsafe to drive. Vehicle has 96,374 miles and is out of warranty. However, Honda issued a recall on 2007-2011 CRVs for same situation where vehicles were repaired or bought back. Vehicle has been inspected by 2 private garages, a Honda dealer, and a Honda collision center to assess repair options. We have been told not to drive the vehicle. I understand the warranty has expired however a failure could result in loss of control and a repair quote from a Honda collision center is $5,871.63. If the vehicle were in an accident insurance company would total it, per Arbella. Instead, we are left to spend more than 2/3 of its trade in value to repair it. It seems that the CRV frame issue was not limited to the 2007-2011 model years, and I believe we should receive consideration from Honda to repair or buy back the for a vehicle. It would appear more CRVs should be inspected for unsafe frame rot, and Honda should be held accountable for a design that does not let road salt and moisture drain.

It was down to what I would call the safety latch. When I fully closed the hood, everything worked fine. I realized then that I had just driven 20 miles at 70 MPH. If the hood had flown up at that speed it would have been catastrophic. I checked to see if there was a warning light to warn that the hood is ajar but there is not. There are warning lights that a door is ajar and the rear hatch is ajar but not the Hood. Since my horn chirp and my light flash didn't work, apparently the car knows the hood is ajar but there is not warning light. - Summary: The VTC Actuator in several Honda vehicle models from between 2011 and 2015 are known to be defective (as per Honda's technician bulletins). The defective part damages the internal engine components responsible for ensuring the engine's timing. Honda has refused to issue recalls to address this issue faced by millions of Honda vehicle owners. Honda has known about this issue since at least 2011. Honda released a replacement VTC Actuator but the replacement has also been shown to be defective. The issue can cost upwards of $2,000 to repair and Honda continues to sell vehicles with this defect without notifying prospective buyers. - Summary: Engine rattles loudly for 2 seconds on cold start-up. The rattle started in 2021 at 90k miles, used to be intermittent but since 2022 it occurs every cold start-up. Two different mechanics have diagnosed the problem as a VTC defect requiring replacement, based on Honda’s TSB bulletin, which diagnoses the rattle as a defective VTC. No warning indicator lights have ever appeared for this issue. The cost to replace the VTC is $1200. A class action lawsuit has been filed for this very issue (JULY 5, 2023 case 3:23-CV-01238) - it states that a 2011 study showed that the VTC defect can stretch the vehicle’s timing chain and cause premature failure of the timing chain tensioner, and that damage to these internal engine components can cause catastrophic engine failure and lead to accidents. Honda should be held responsible for selling vehicles with defective parts, and owners should not have to pay for these replacements.

- Summary: The drivers side door is the only key hole available to unlock or lock the car. This key hole is jammed at a diagonal angle and will not accept a key in any way. Thus, whatever state the car is currently in (locked in my case) is the state that it will stay. No professional has checked it out. It is easily inspectable. There were no warnings by the car that this would happen, however, within 24 hrs before the door lock was jammed, the car wouldn't stay locked and would unlock and release the trunk door on its own while unattended.

The contact was informed that the entire unibody frame needed to be replaced to repair the control arm. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 158,000. The contact stated that they will no longer need this complaint. They contacted the dealership and they agreed to buy the vehicle and make the situation a fair settlement.

- Summary: Powertrain problem as many others stated. I got the vehicle used after extensive research claiming how great it was & because I've owned an Accord for over 20 years with no problems. All I could find on line was rave reviews. When I took the vehicle for test drive it was in the middle of rush hour traffic so went on side roads. I could feel it shake but thought the roads were just not smooth. Within a few days the shaking got worse and brought it to the most reputable service station in the area. I was told it was a transmission judder. They ran a check and there was no recall on my vin # although they found that it was a known problem with Honda. They performed a TBS transmission flash update, hoping it might solve the problem. That was only 1/2 the repair required. Because it was a transmission problem, they recommended Honda do that. Honda also said the my vin wasn't supposed to have the problem and charged me for a triple flush of the transmission fluid because the way it's built, enough of the fluid can't be replaced in one flush. It's somewhat better now but I was told to keep paying attention because it's possible the converter will also need to be repaired. I'm so disappointed with Honda. I always trusted them and all the great reviews on line, but it wasn't until I was told to specifically google "Honda CRV transmission judder or shutter", that I found the flood of many owners that had the same problem. They know about the issue yet charged close to $500 for the flush, not counting the over $300 flash update by the service station also needed. Honda just claims some vin numbers don't qualify even though they have the issue, but they don't explain what determines that disqualification. Just "Sorry Mam, your vin isn't on the list. The car is not safe with that shake. It jumps when trying to slow down for a yellow light. You can feel it shake & hurts my injured back- the reason I got it in the 1st place.

- Summary: Now, we have had two seat belts fray without explanation in our 2013 Honda CRV EX-L. In 2018, we contacted the local dealer about the first belt's issues and were told that the belt had been sliced. This determination was made without ever accessing the inside of the belt mechanism and likely was simply said to get rid of us. In 2022, a second seat belt started having the same problem, so we opened a case with American Honda in July 2022. Now, two case managers and three months after opening the case, we have been unable to obtain any true action from American Honda.

The fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.

- Remedy: Honda will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Honda or Acura dealer. The dealer will install an updated brake shift interlock blocking mechanism free of charge. The recall began on May 13, 2013. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. Honda's campaign recall numbers are S96, S97, and S98.

I had always wanted a Ford Escape, but when my parents decided to buy me a new car, my dad suggested a Honda CR-V. At first, I was hesitant, but after test driving both cars, I found the CR-V to be more comfortable and reliable. The salesperson was very helpful and showed me all the features of the car during the test drive. I make a round trip of 400 miles from Toledo to Cincinnati a few times a month, and the CR-V has been great for this. It gets about 30-31 mpg on the highway and 20-25 mpg in the city. I have not had any issues with the mechanics of the car, and the service staff at the Honda dealership are always friendly and helpful. The CR-V handles well in snowy conditions, and the traction control has saved me a few times. Overall, I love my CR-V and have had it for almost three years now. It has been a great car.

Hi there! On my first drive across central Oregon, I managed to maintain a steady speed of 60 mph, even though the speed limit was only 55. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I got 35.4 mpg on my first tank fill-up, which is pretty darn good! The weather was calm that day, and the roads were dry, which definitely helped. Since then, I've mostly been driving around town, with an average speed of 27 to 29 mph, and I'm still managing to get 29 to 30 mpg. Pretty impressive, right?

Just wanted to give you a heads up about the grinding noise the car makes when starting. Unfortunately, the dealer doesn't seem willing to fix the issue and Honda hasn't been much help either. It's a shame because it's a nice SUV, but the grinding sound and lack of support from Honda is a deal breaker for me when it comes to considering a new car. The CRV runs well otherwise, but that grinding noise is definitely something to keep in mind.

The 2013 Honda CRV LX has only 40,000 miles and I have had no issues with it. Although, I did notice some road noise from the factory Continental tires, so I decided to upgrade to some EX-L 17 inch wheels and a new set of Michelin Latitude tires. It's amazing how much of a difference that made! One thing I did notice is that there is no armrest for the passenger driver, but other than that, it gets great gas mileage and has plenty of room for its size.

Please be aware that some CRVs made in 2008 or later may experience a grinding noise from the VTC Actuator. This issue has been known to Honda since 2008 and unfortunately has not been corrected yet. Hello, we own a 2013 car and unfortunately, we have been experiencing some issues with the transmission. Specifically, we have noticed some vibrations and skipping between 20 and 28 miles per hour when shifting from first gear into second. We took our car to a Honda dealership in Tarrytown, NY to get a diagnosis test for $100, but unfortunately, they did not address the vibrations in the transmission. We are determined to go to the headquarters with all the information needed to prove that this is a factory fault and that they are totally responsible. We paid over $32,000.99 in cash for this car and we believe that it is their responsibility to resolve this issue. We will continue to pursue this matter until it is resolved. I have identified a light rattling sound from the rear of the vehicle in the latest incarnation of the CRV. After a couple of dealership trips, it was discovered that a couple of pebbles had bounced into the shock absorber recesses at the rear. The issue was resolved by using a pressure air blower. Although the older version CRV did not have this problem, I am confident that this is a minor issue that can be easily resolved. Additionally, I have noticed that the sound system in the latest CRV is not as bassy as the older version. However, this is a minor issue and does not significantly impact my overall satisfaction with the vehicle.

I share the same concern as the other reviewer regarding the grinding noise during start-up. It is a frustrating issue that needs to be addressed. In my opinion, Honda should take responsibility for this problem and provide a solution to their customers. If given the opportunity, I would consider trading my vehicle for a 2013 Toyota (something) model. It is important for car manufacturers to stand behind their products and provide reliable solutions for their customers.
