The Honda CR-V (also sold as the Honda Breeze in China since 2019) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1995. Initial models of the CR-V were built using the same platform as the Civic.

Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, United Kingdom, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, United States, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana, United States, in February 2017. The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, and also marketed as the Breeze in China for the version produced at Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda.

Honda states "CR-V" stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle," while the term "Compact Recreational Vehicle" is used in a British car review article that was republished by Honda, associating the model name with the Sports Utility Vehicle abbreviation of SU-V.

As of 2022, the CR-V is positioned between the smaller ZR-V (marketed as HR-V in North America) – which the CR-V shares platform with – and the larger North American market Passport/Pilot or the Chinese market Avancier/UR-V. It is currently Honda's best-selling vehicle in the world, and the second best-selling SUV globally in 2020.

Common 2006 Honda Cr-v problems

Based on complaints from owners of the 2006 Honda CR-V, several common problems have been reported:

  • Transmission Noise: Excessive noise from the transmission has been noted in some CR-Vs at around 83,000 miles. Flushing the transmission for approximately $300 usually resolves these noise issues.
  • Air Fuel Ratio Sensor: A check engine light with trouble code P134 can be triggered by a faulty air fuel ratio sensor. Replacing this sensor with an OEM component often resolves the issue .
  • EVAP Solenoid Valve: The EVAP solenoid valve may become obstructed or restricted, leading to the Check Engine code P1457. Installing an EVAP solenoid valve kit is recommended to address this issue .
  • Air Conditioning Compressor: The air conditioning compressor can malfunction internally, releasing metal particles that can contaminate the entire AC system. Repairing or replacing components of the AC system can cost at least $800 to $900 .
  • Vibration Issues: Vibration problems, potentially from a worn-out U-joint or center support bearing, can cause vibrations at certain speeds. Replacing these components can cost between $220 and $460 .
  • Engine Mounts: A vibration in the "Drive" position could result from a bad engine mount. Replacing the fluid in the rear differential with Honda's recommended "Dual Pump" fluid can help eliminate shuddering from the rear axle during low-speed turns .

These common problems reported by owners of the 2006 Honda CR-V highlight various issues ranging from lighting and stability control to transmission and engine components. Addressing these problems promptly can help maintain the performance and reliability of the vehicle.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-10-27
  • VIN: JHLRD778X6C
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: Vehicle brakes come on spontaneously while driving, during acceleration in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. Seems to be a part of the ABS/VSA system faulty engagement (Anti-Lock Brakes System/Vehicle Stability Assist) since the VSA warning light come on during the fault. Causes vehicle to brake, jerk and buck in middle of road. Almost got rear-ended on several occasions. Car stalls in middle of roadway. Disfunctional safety system failing to work properly. Intermittent problem that has occurred several time in the past year. Local dealer was "not able" to diagnose the problem despite inspection and problem issue report.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-07-19
  • VIN: SHSRD68536U
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I have a 2006 Honda CRV with a little over 297,780 miles. Upon starting the car, the VSA and ABS indicator lights came on along with the VSA warning triangle and would not go off until the engine was turned off. There were no accidents or any noticeable problems with the vehicle while driving on city street under good conditions. I feel that this defect is essential in ensuring the overall safety of this car. The weight of the car is significant enough that an uncontrolled skid is much more likely to end in disaster than a skid that is stopped with the VSA and ABS function working properly. I feel that Honda should recall these cars and replace the VSA modulator unit entirely at Honda's expense. And for those who have already paid for the repair - reimburse the full amount of the repair! Since this component controls brakes and stability it seems to me to be a safety issue and therefore subject to a recall.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-07-29
  • VIN: shsrd78866u
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: there was no accident yet!!!!The vsa and abs lights on my 2006 Cr-v came on upon starting and stayed on until the engine was stopped. This happened every time the car was started. the car ends up bucking on me. My Honda dealership diagnosed the problem to be a faulty abs modulator unit. The stated replacement cost is $2,400, including labor. I feel that this defect is essential in ensuring the overall safety of this car. The weight of the car is significant enough that an uncontrolled skid is much more likely to end in disaster than a skid that is stopped with the vsa and abs function working properly. Living in central PA, the abs and vsa functions are used frequently - especially in the winter. These key safety features were a top priority in my decision to buy this car. While the car's life expectancy is touted to be around 300,000 miles, it is unforgivable for such a significant safety function to fail at only 102,000 miles. I feel that Honda should recall these cars and replace the vsa modulator unit entirely at Honda's expense. And for those of us who have already paid for the repair - reimburse the full amount of the repair! the car without vsa and abs is not at all the same "as advertised" when sold new!.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-05-26
  • VIN: SHSRD78516U
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: The Vechile Stability Assist (VSA) light came on and took it too my Honda mechanic and confirmed that the Anti-lock Brake System(ABS) module needs to be replaced and this disabled the VSA. Parts+labor over $2,600+ to fix. Called the Manufacturer (Honda) and told me that I would have too first get it fixed and then submit the bill to them and they may reimburse me some of the cost or nothing. Since the ABS component controls brake and stability this a safety issue and therefore subject to a recall. I looked on the web and in the United Kingdom and Canada that Honda has paid in full. In the US, Honda doesn't consider it a defect and thus won't reimburse the owner's for fixing the vehicle. Once again because this an safety issue I believe that Honda should recall these vehicles and cost should be covered by Honda

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-02-07
  • VIN: JHLRD78896C
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: About 4 months ago I discovered that the electric operator on the front passenger window no longer worked. I recently had a mechanic try to repair it and he found that the motor worked well. He replaced the switches in both the passenger door and the driver's door but window only goes down and not up. The mechanic checked online and discovered that this vehicle model was recalled in December, 2020, for this problem. When I checked on getting my vehicle repaired through the recall, I discovered that my specific vehicle was not included in the recall. Because I am now aware of the risk of fire, I request that my vehicle be included in the recall so I can have it repaired. Thanks for your consideration of this request.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-03-17
  • VIN: JHLRD68536C
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: Every few months one of my low beam headlamps goes out, and I replace it to stay in compliance with local traffic laws. Within the last week, both low beam headlights went out, and both sockets show burn damage that is similar to the issue reported in NHTSA recall: 04V086000. I am concerned that even if I replace both the lights and the sockets, there may be something else going on that could cause a fire. I'd like NHTSA to look into this please. Thank you

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-08-17
  • VIN: JHLRD68536C
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: My car gets up to 2500 rpms and the check engine light comes on and the VSA warning light as well. The car jerks hard and the engine stutters and won't hardly go. it's done this to me twice and I had the ecu reset. The diagnostic comes up as the vsa system modulator. I have had my 6 and 9 year old granddaughters in the car with me. If I had been on the interstate in heavy traffic taking them to their doctor appointments, we would have been killed. The third time this thing went out I had to pull into the shoulder of the road to avoid being hit. I believe Honda knows about this problem and they should be made to replace the part for free. This is a major safety hazard and the part runs almost $2000 without the labor. I believe they want to drag their feet and not recall this part because it's so expensive. I don't want to die in my car and I can't afford to buy another one. Thanks.

  • Summary: RE: NHTSA RECALL NUMBER20V-768. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT IN ADVANCE WITH A LOCAL HONDA CAR DEALER TO TAKE CARE OF THIS RECALL ON MARCH 2ND 2021. I SHOWED UP TO THE APPT. AND THE CAR DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE SPARE PARTS AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL WORK. I THEN DEMANDED AN EXPLANATION TO THE HONDA SERVICE MANAGER AS TO WHY I WAS LET TO COME BY IF THEY WERE NOT READY TO TAKE CARE OF ME, THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHY I WAS COMING. I LIVE 1 HOUR AND 15 MIN AWAY FROM THE NEAREST DEALER SHOP. THE HONDA MANAGER, AFTER NOTICING I WAS NOT BUYING THEIR LAME EXCUSES, HE VERY RUDELY AND ABRUPTLY ASKED TO LEAVE THE PROPERTY. THIS PATHETIC EPISODE HAPPENED IN THE HONDA OF ARECIBO CAR DEALER, IN PUERTO RICO ON MARCH 2ND 2021. THE SAME DAY 3/2/2021 IN THE PM, I CALLED HONDA HOTLINE FOR CUSTOMER RELATIONS TO REPORT THIS ISSUE WITH THE CAR DEALER, THE DISRESPECTFUL MANNER THE DEALER MANAGER TREATED ME, AND ALSO TO SEEK HELP IN MAKING A NEW APPOINTMENT TO TAKE CARE OF THE RECALL AT A DIFFERENT CAR DEALER IN PUERTO RICO. A VERY POLITE HONDA REPRESENTATIVE ASSURED ME SOMEONE WILL BE CONTACTING ME IN THE FOLLOWING FEW DAYS TO RESCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT AND TO ENSURE THE CAR DEALER WOULD HAVE THE SPARE PARTS READY TO COMPLETE THE RECALL WORK. TODAY IS MAY 6TH 2021, AND I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM EITHER HONDA OR ANY LOCAL CAR DEALER. CLEARLY HONDA HAS NOT TAKEN THIS SERIOUSLY AND HAS ATTEMPT NOTHING TO WORK ON MY RECALL. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO OR WHO ELSE TO CALL. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP MAKING HONDA COMPLETE THIS RECALL WORK IN AN EFFICIENT AND RESPECTFUL MANNER? THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.

Negative 2006 Honda Cr-v car reviews

  1. Brennon Lind 2024-11-17

This car has no mechanical issues whatsoever. Although the gas mileage of 26 on the highway could be improved, it handles decently despite being slightly affected by wind and road noise. The seats are quite hard, but this issue was resolved by purchasing a gel seat. Additionally, the black paint could be of better quality. Overall, I am confident that this car will last over 200,000 miles without any problems.

  2. Abdullah Dicki 2024-10-06

This car has received a rating of less than 4/10 for 'quietness'. While driving on the highway, it is difficult to hear your passengers without raising your voice. Additionally, the seats are uncomfortable, which may require frequent rest stops during long journeys. It is worth noting that this vehicle may not be the best option for highway driving.

  3. Ahmad Kuhic 2024-09-16

I'm happy to report that my vehicle has been very reliable with only minor issues. The only thing I've had to replace so far are the tires. While I have had some unscheduled problems with the truck's trim, it's nothing too serious. The trim is a bit cheap and not secured very well, which has caused a few pieces to come loose, including a piece of the windshield trim. However, overall it's a great family SUV that's easy to work on and very dependable. The pull-out table in the trunk is a nice added feature too. If you plan on taking full advantage of the AWD, I would recommend investing in better tires. All in all, I highly recommend this vehicle!

  4. Domenico Klocko 2024-08-11

Although this Honda vehicle did not meet my expectations, I believe that Honda can do better. I experienced noise from the rear end at 15,000 miles and had repeated issues with the audio system. Recently, the airbag sensor light has been turning on occasionally at 38,000 miles. Unfortunately, Honda did not provide any assistance after the warranty expired. Additionally, my local Honda dealer charges $100 an hour and does not offer free loaner cars. Despite this experience, I still believe in Honda's potential. It's worth noting that UK-built Hondas can be identified by the first digit of the VIN being an 'S'.

  5. Denis Roberts 2024-06-22

The car is definitely dependable and has good power. However, there are a few points that are a bit bothersome. Firstly, the paint quality is poor and the exterior of my car is looking bad. I can even scratch the paint job with just my fingernail. Secondly, the car has quite a bit of road noise. Lastly, the gas mileage was not as advertised on the sticker (23/29) when I bought it. I have never achieved better than 26 mpg on the highway and around the city, I average 18 to 19 mpg.

Positive 2006 Honda Cr-v car reviews

  1. Bertrand Moen 2024-11-26

This is such a reliable vehicle. I'm glad I decided to purchase the 2006 model to avoid getting stuck with a 2007 (I thought the new body design was kinda ugly). I typically put 15-20K miles per year on this vehicle and it has held up wonderfully. I absolutely love my CR-V!

  2. Vernon Botsford 2024-11-22

I recently purchased my first Honda from a friend and have put about 35,000 miles on it over the past 4 years. While I have had to replace a few parts, including two AC compressors, a condenser, fan, and two O2 sensors, the drive train still operates like new with 241,000 miles on it. Overall, I highly recommend this vehicle as it is very versatile. Additionally, it is worth noting that this model has a unique side swing third door and a box-style cab that provides more headroom than later models.

  3. Jamaal Pfeffer 2024-11-19

I completely agree with others who have said that this small SUV (which feels and is pretty roomy) was very dependable and easy to drive. The mileage was typical, ranging from 21 to 26 mpg around town, and it had enough engine power. Unfortunately, I had it for less than a year due to being rear-ended by a heavy commercial truck that didn't brake, it just hit. The CR-V was totaled, which was a bad thing, but the good thing is that we lived. Not much you can say after that... I'm just glad to be here. I have friends who own CR-Vs from 2005 through 2009, and they all love their particular year models. One friend even has two CR-Vs in the family, a 2008 and a 2009.

  4. Jared Emard 2024-10-11

I really love this car! It's been a lifesaver for me with my two toddlers and my home party business. It's so easy to load and unload, and it's even great for trips to the local home improvement store. I mostly do city and suburban driving, and I'm getting an average of 24 mpg (maybe because it's a manual transmission?). Recently, we took it on a long road trip (1000 miles each way in the winter) and it performed great. I've always lived in snowy/icy climates, and this car handles both with ease. The only downside is that it can be a bit noisy in the summer with the A/C on. My family is considering adding a third child, but I don't want to give up my beloved CR-V!

  5. Otho Jacobson 2024-09-17

After my car was totaled in an accident, I decided to replace it with a small SUV. As an avid reader of car magazines, I test drove several vehicles, from the Freelander and Subaru Forester to the RAV4 and Escape. However, none of them offered the right combination of everything I was looking for. The standard equipment was optional on everything else. I am happy to report that I constantly get 24.6 mpg mixed driving and 29 mpg on the open highway. There is plenty of room for four adults and gear, and this SUV is a lot more capable off-road than the reviews suggest. I also looked at the new redesigned CR-V's, but they have lost their SUV appeal and no longer have a picnic table! Overall, this has been the best purchase I have made, and best of all, I have had no problems with it!
