The Honda CR-V (also sold as the Honda Breeze in China since 2019) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1995. Initial models of the CR-V were built using the same platform as the Civic.

Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, United Kingdom, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, United States, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana, United States, in February 2017. The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, and also marketed as the Breeze in China for the version produced at Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda.

Honda states "CR-V" stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle," while the term "Compact Recreational Vehicle" is used in a British car review article that was republished by Honda, associating the model name with the Sports Utility Vehicle abbreviation of SU-V.

As of 2022, the CR-V is positioned between the smaller ZR-V (marketed as HR-V in North America) – which the CR-V shares platform with – and the larger North American market Passport/Pilot or the Chinese market Avancier/UR-V. It is currently Honda's best-selling vehicle in the world, and the second best-selling SUV globally in 2020.

The officer on the scene did not want to sight her but had to under the law failure to control, he could see it was a mechanical failure. My vehicle has been maintained by several good mechanics but where the frame broke unless you pulled all the plastic down you would never know the frame was rotted. My daughter was 6.5 months pregnant at the time and her doctors told her to go get emergency ultrasounds done she had 2. The day of the accident and the next day. Everything was fine. I did contact and sent some pictures to Honda and all of the information they asked for but never heard back. I did try to send pictures but it would not let me upload.

The passenger side front door wouldn't work. I changed both blown fuses. And smoke started right away and pooped both fuses. I removed the door look master switch. There are burns and melted plastic on switches and plastic body. I called Honda and they say it's the same symptoms but they're not covering it. AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-11-29
  • VIN: SHSRD788X3U
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: The SRS light in my Honda CRV recently went on, and remains on, when the vehicle is in operation. Last week, I took the car to Honda of Princeton (local Honda dealer), who diagnosed the problem as a DTC 15-3 Faulty OPDS Sensor, and further explained that this faulty sensor could potentially cause the passenger-side airbag (replaced in a prior Honda CRV recall) to NOT deploy in the event of an accident. Indeed, the repair documentation included a dealer statement that I had been made aware of the issue. I paid for this diagnostic work, which was overseen by [XXX], who is a service lane manager at the dealer (Tel: [XXX]). The dealer said it would NOT assume financial responsibility for the replacement of this faulty sensor since the defect is not currently the subject of a Honda product recall, and stressed that this defect is not covered by the various Honda airbag recalls, even though the faulty sensor could impair airbag deployment in an accident. This faulty sensor may cause non-deployment of the passenger-side airbag, and it would therefore seem self-evident that the defect places the safety of any front-seat passenger in my Honda CRV at grave risk. Today, I called American Honda Motor Company (Tel: 888-234-2138) concerning the faulty sensor, and spoke with "[XXX]", who opened Case #[XXX] based on our call. [XXX] said the faulty sensor is not currently the subject of a Honda product recall. She also confirmed (I had already found the bulletin online and asked about it) that the Honda CRV's faulty OPDS sensor was the subject of Honda Service Bulletin 06-006, which extended the warranty to 10 years for the faulty sensor, but she noted that the faulty OPDS sensor was no longer covered by this service bulletin or warranty. [XXX] said that American Honda Motor Co. would not assume financial responsibility for the faulty OPDS sensor on this basis, but suggested that I try to 'work with' the local Honda dealer to address the problem. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-08-12
  • VIN: JHLRD78893C
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: Lowbeams went out when I got off work but highneams were working. I bought new bulbs the next day and the problem unchanged. So I checked all fuses and relays those were all fine. I proceeded to remove the steering column cover and disconnected the connectors and the gray one had what looks like Rust and or melted. This is very alarming because until I can replace the connector I have to drive home at nights with high beams. This may cause an accident and or me getting pulled over for having highbeams on. I do have a picture of said connector I took today 8/16/21.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-07-10
  • VIN: JHLRD78803C
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: Similar to an NHTSA campaign No. 19V053000 of Honda 2017-2019 Ridgelines recall, there is a hairline crack on the fuel pump feed port of my 2003 Honda CR-V that is 'spewing' gasoline whenever the car key is in "ON" position, and much more leakage when the engine is running. There is NO engine CODE that is showing in my dashboard. The vehicle is running fine. The only indication is a VERY strong smell of gasoline in the cabin, and traces of fuel leak from underneath the vehicle (along the outside of the gas tank).

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-07-05
  • VIN: Shsrd68473u
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: The ac compressor and drier on my 2003 Honda CR-V failed and contaminated my whole entire ac system. Contaminants from the compressor have been released. This issue is common for Honda crvs from the earlier 2000’s, because the compressors are substandard. Unfortunately Honda never alerted me of the faulty ac compressor, so I could ensure the ac compressor was replaced in time. Due to this substandard ac compressor, my whole entire ac system needs to be flushed and replaced. I have a new baby and I am not sure if she or I inhaled any contaminants from this issue. This issue was checked and confirmed by a mechanic, and the vehicle is available for inspection. I did not receive any alert or warning messages from my car for this issue.

Negative 2003 Honda Cr-v car reviews

  1. Christophe Graham 2025-01-08

I recently experienced an issue with my Honda CR-V's air conditioning system. Despite having just over 70,000 miles, the system failed and required replacement. Unfortunately, the dealer quoted me $2000 for the repair, which I found to be unreasonable. After conducting some research online, I discovered that this is a common issue with multiple year models of the CR-V. However, Honda's USA Corporate office has yet to acknowledge the problem. I am currently exploring my options and have reached out to the California State Attorney General and an attorney for assistance. While I have had some difficulty communicating with Honda's Corporate Customer Service Rep, I remain hopeful that this issue can be resolved in a fair and timely manner. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  2. Dallas Hand 2024-09-29

I have been a loyal Honda owner for over 20 years, but unfortunately, my experience with the CRV has left me disappointed. After only 4 years and 66,000 miles, the air compressor failed and the dealership quoted me $1,500 for a replacement. As much as I love Honda, this is too expensive for me. I recently purchased a new Honda Element, but if this issue had happened sooner, I may have reconsidered my decision. I am now considering trading in my CRV for a Saturn Vue.

  3. Adolfo Bartoletti 2024-08-01

Our car has been experiencing multiple issues such as front strut problems, tire issues, premature brake wear, AC malfunctions, and gear shifting problems. The emissions warning light is now on and the back door latch is becoming loose. Despite its attractive appearance, this car has been a constant source of frustration and we are considering replacing it soon. As we cannot afford to keep fixing it, we need a reliable and cost-effective solution.

  4. Sigurd Bailey 2024-07-15

As a fellow 2003 CRV owner, I had high expectations for the renowned 'Honda quality'. Unfortunately, my air conditioner stopped working at 56K miles, but I was pleased to find that Honda covered the cost of the parts. I only had to pay for the labor. However, at 118K miles, the AC stopped working again. Although I was disappointed to hear that it was out of warranty, I understand that these things happen. I was concerned that keeping a Honda for 200+K miles would mean replacing the AC every 55K miles, but I'm hopeful that this is not the case. Unfortunately, my oxygen sensor is also out, so I will be parting ways with my beloved Honda. I had planned to purchase a Civic next, but I will have to reconsider. I hope that Honda can learn from Detroit's mistakes and maintain their reputation for quality. While I am disappointed, I understand that these things happen and I am grateful for the positive experiences I had with my Honda.

  5. Kaley Sipes 2024-06-09

When I first purchased the vehicle, I experienced the PTTR issue. I had to inform the dealership about the TSB that was available to fix it. After the TSB, the PTTR was gone, and it has been working perfectly for the next 50k+ miles. Unfortunately, at 50k+ miles and 3.5 years later, the air conditioning failed, which is a well-known issue that can be found on many websites. The total cost was $2840, but I was grateful that American Honda decided to goodwill $2000 of the cost. However, it is still disappointing because there is no definite fix to the AC failure, and it could happen again. The AC should not be considered a wear & tear item. It is worth noting that there have been 3 actual safety recalls on the vehicle.

Positive 2003 Honda Cr-v car reviews

  1. Joe Will 2024-11-27

This car gets decent mileage and is easy to park. It also has great driving visibility all around, although the center rear seat headrest can be a bit of a problem. However, I simply removed it and that solved the issue. Additionally, this car is great in the snow or rain. The only downside is that it tends to go through tires quickly. That being said, after a 4 wheel strut change, I have had no problems.

  2. Stephon Rodriguez 2024-11-17

I bought this car when I was 18 as my first car. It has been reliable and great ever since I have owned it! Although, I have been experiencing some issues with the headlight bulbs. The driverside rear blinker, passenger rear running light, front driverside headlight, and front driverside blinker have all gone out at different times. Fortunately, they were all cheap and do-able fixes. Overall, I love my car and it has been a great companion to me!

  3. Savion McKenzie 2024-11-15

You made an excellent choice test driving the CR-V! It's a top performer in just about every category, and even though its engine might not be the most powerful out there, its response and smoothness more than make up for it. The CR-V handles very well on-road for an SUV and is a snap to park in even the tightest spots. For its size, the CR-V is incredibly spacious, with so many places to put things that you might never use them all. The interior is my favorite part of this Honda. At 6'2

  4. Zander Kemmer 2024-10-29

Great CR-V! It's fun to drive and a dependable SUV. It has exceeded my expectations. I used to have a VW Cabrio, but the CR-V is much better!

  5. Seth Grady 2024-10-26

This fun and spunky car is incredibly friendly and easy to use. I purchased it with 70K miles and it has a reputation for being able to go another 200K. Everything works great and it's so simple that there is little to break down. While road noise can be substantial on rough highways and gas mileage at 22 MPG overall is not overly impressive, it's still a great box car. Other than those two things, it's absolutely superb.
