Headquartered in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris, the Renault group is made up of the namesake Renault marque along with subsidiaries Alpine and Automobile Dacia from Romania. Renault also has other subsidiaries as RCI Banque (automotive financing), Renault Retail Group (automotive distribution) and Motrio (automotive parts). Renault has various joint ventures, including Oyak-Renault (Turkey) and Renault Pars (Iran). The French state and Nissan each own a 15% share of the company.
Renault Trucks, previously known as Renault Véhicules Industriels, has been part of Volvo since 2001. Renault Agriculture became 100% owned by German agricultural equipment manufacturer CLAAS in 2008.
Renault is known for its role in motor sport, particularly rallying, Formula 1 and Formula E. Its early work on mathematical curve modeling for car bodies is important in the history of computer graphics.

- Valve Problems: Engine valve problems have been reported in models built between September and November 2010, which could lead to the destruction of the engine. Before buying a second-hand car, it is essential to ensure that this issue has been resolved by Renault.
- Brake Hoses: The Clio has been recalled twice over concerns about how the protectors over the brake hoses were fitted, which can cause the hoses to become worn, resulting in a fluid leak and reduced overall performance.
- Electrical Wiring: Renault Clio electrical fault problems are common in almost all generations of the car. There has been a recall for models built in 2019 due to the risk of short circuiting. Electrical repairs for a Clio cost an average of £58.68.
- Power Steering Failure: A small number of Clio's made between June and November 2019 have experienced power steering failure, which requires the steering column to be replaced by a Renault dealer.
